[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1631560] Re: Narrow spacing of icons in Files affects file names
Yea, this is pretty much unusable, and I may reinstall 16.04. I don't know who thought this was a good idea but they need to be smacked upside the head. ;) ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2017-02-12 01-19-13.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1631560/+attachment/4817307/+files/Screenshot%20from%202017-02-12%2001-19-13.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1631560 Title: Narrow spacing of icons in Files affects file names Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When I upgraded to Ubuntu 16.10 beta a few days ago, horizontal distance between icons in Files and on the desktop got much smaller. Because of this there's less room horizontally for the file names, and many words got their last letters cut off to the next row. In many file names full rows now alternate with rows of only a couple of cut off letters. Name fields with longer file names also look disproportionately narrow and tall now. I think the spacing should be changed back to what it was, or at least it should be user selectable. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1663959] [NEW] nm-applet shows incorrect info re wifi
Public bug reported: (This platform is *insisting* that I say this has to do with the network-manager-applet package, which does not exist on my system. The real package seems to be network-manager-gnome. I'd file another bug for bugs.launchpad.net, but that's way too meta for me just now.) nm-applet's icons in the top-right of the unity panel (I think that's what it's called) often shows incorrect information on the status of the wifi network. Specifically, it often shows the ethernet icon when my machine is connected only wirelessly; or it shows the wifi icon as having *no* signal strength, when in fact, the signal strength is fine. The change from correct info to incorrect, or from incorrect to another kind of incorrect, occurs after waking the machine from suspend. Logging out and back in, either through the panel system menu, or via Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, fixes it; until the next suspend. $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/nm-applet network-manager-gnome: /usr/bin/nm-applet $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 16.10 Release:16.10 $ apt-cache policy network-manager-gnome network-manager-gnome: Installed: 1.2.4-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 1.2.4-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1.2.4-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu yakkety/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ lspci ... 02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Limited BCM43227 802.11b/g/n 03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Limited NetLink BCM57785 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10) $ grep nm-applet /var/log/syslog Feb 11 11:03:35 pobox nm-applet[15366]: get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed Feb 11 11:03:35 pobox nm-applet[15366]: message repeated 22 times: [ get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed] Feb 11 11:03:36 pobox nm-applet[15366]: get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed Feb 11 11:03:36 pobox nm-applet[15366]: message repeated 25 times: [ get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed] Feb 11 14:56:01 pobox nm-applet[15366]: get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed Feb 11 14:56:01 pobox nm-applet[15366]: message repeated 15 times: [ get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed] Feb 11 14:56:03 pobox nm-applet[15366]: get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed Feb 11 14:56:03 pobox nm-applet[15366]: get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed Feb 11 14:56:03 pobox nm-applet[15366]: message repeated 18 times: [ get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed] Feb 11 19:41:07 pobox nm-applet[15366]: get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed Feb 11 19:41:07 pobox nm-applet[15366]: message repeated 20 times: [ get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed] Feb 11 19:41:08 pobox nm-applet[15366]: get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed Feb 11 19:41:08 pobox nm-applet[15366]: message repeated 22 times: [ get_menu_item_for_ap: assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed] ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.10 Package: network-manager-gnome 1.2.4-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.8.0-37.39-generic 4.8.16 Uname: Linux 4.8.0-37-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl ApportVersion: 2.20.3-0ubuntu8.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Feb 11 22:50:08 2017 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nm-applet IfupdownConfig: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-01-30 (12 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" - Release amd64 (20161012.2) IpRoute: default via 192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0 proto static metric 600 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlp2s0 scope link metric 1000 192.168.0.0/24 dev wlp2s0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.181 metric 600 NetworkManager.state: [main] NetworkingEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=true WWANEnabled=true ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_CA:en PATH=(custom, user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: network-manager-applet UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) nmcli-con: NAMEUUID TYPE TIMESTAMP TIMESTAMP-REAL AUTOCONNECT AUTOCONNECT-PRIORITY READONLY DBUS-PATH ACTIVE DEVICE STATE ACTIVE-PATH Olive Tapenade 173d59401-3bee-4031-9284-d31d10212a92 802-11-wireless 1486871352 Sat 11 Feb 2017 10:49:12 PM EST yes 0 no/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/0 yes wlp2s0 activated /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/36 Wired connection 1 91e3b2fe-3456-39e9-b8df-d745cc2f4857 802-3-ethernet 1485807661 Mon 30 Jan 2017 03:21:01 PM EST yes 4294966297 no/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/2 no -- -- -- n

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out
Hi Frédéric, Thank you for the clear instructions as from my point of view it's much appreciated!! Unfortunately I've hit a hurdle with either an existing install or a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 with all the updates completed... The first two commands in the terminal worked perfectly fine & saved the file in the home directory. $ wget -O 0001-wifi-dialog-fix-enabling-of-Connect-button.patch https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=328481 $ wget -O 0002-wifi-dialog-enable-Cancel-button-if-secrets-are-not-.patch https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=328482 However the third command came back with the below response. $ apt source network-manager-applet Reading package lists... [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1663922] Re: random freeze
Happens to me since about a month. IDK if xorg or some other desktop subsystem, but the screen suddenly turns unresponsive except for a very laggy mouse cursor. Most of the time it happens with firefox after seeing some video (inside firefox, like in youtube, or outside, like using videos or vlc); the video end, we go to firefox, ans out of nowhere the screen's static and the mouse looks like the machine is slow as hell. The session's still up, as i can enter via ssh from another device. But i can't change tty with alt+ctrl+Fx, as the desktop doesn't take commands anymore. Will try to find some log somewhere and post it here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1663922 Title: random freeze Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: i suspect an xorg bug, but really don't know. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1641017] Re: Mesa 12.0.6 - multiple important fixes, stable branch
Chris, why the update was released only for Xenial? Please do the same for Yakkety. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641017 Title: Mesa 12.0.6 - multiple important fixes, stable branch Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in mesa source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in mesa source package in Yakkety: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] Mesa 12.0.5 is now available as a point release in the stable branch. Mesa has MRE for these. The release contains multiple fixes amongst which: The nouveau vdpau driver performance has been restored. The wayland-egl module no longer crashes if the user calls eglDestroySurface and wl_egl_window_destroy in the "wrong" order. libEGL correctly advertises the EGL platforms available. Multiple fd leaks were addressed, which could prevent rmmod of devices such as the DisplayLink drivers. Radeonsi has gained noticeable performance by disabling ReZ. Interop between third party OpenCL implementations and mesa's libGL/libEGL is back online... and many more. Full changelog: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-November/135027.html I am particularly interested in the RadeonSI performance boost: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/mesa-dev/2016-October/131759.html In real-world tests the boost is about 20% (Yay!) : http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Mesa-Post-ReZ-Change-Benchmarks [Test case] Run the default desktop and maybe a game or two. This release has been tested on xenial by the certification team on a set of machines, covering: Intel Haswell Intel Broadwell Intel Skylake AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470 and they all passed the tests. Once this is in -proposed, the community will be asked to test it on a wider range of devices. [Regression potential] yakkety: the release consists of cherry-picks from master, specifically selected as bugfixes. Regression potential should be low. xenial: it's a bigger bump for xenial, but since yakkety already ships with this series the risk should be low To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1641017/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1663918] [NEW] Network Manager fails to reconnect to wifi after resuming from suspend
Public bug reported: After resuming from suspend on my laptop, I have wifi enabled, but Network Manager does not automatically reconnect, and it's list of available wifi networks is blank. If I run `sudo service network-manager restart`, then this fixes everything and it automatically detects and connects to my wifi hotspot, but this shouldn't be necessary. This problem seems specific to 16.04. Under 14.04, NM worked perfectly. After I upgraded my 14.04 install to 16.04 it started happening, however, I assumed this was likely due to some broken config file leftover from the upgrade. However, I recently did a fresh install to the same laptop on a blank hard drive, and the problem still exists. Guys, as it was said above, the bug is fixed in linux kernel 4.8. Hello, I can confirm that the bug disappears after switching to a newer kernel than Ubuntu's 16.04 main one. 4.8.10-040810-generic did the trick. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1573959 Title: On-screen text disappears after suspend Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After resuming from a suspend, almost all text on screen is not visible. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 167 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/167 Matthias, clicking the non-free tag on Ubuntu 16.04 or 16.10 doesn't do anything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1663872 Title: License information of "non-free" software are not described Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Many software are tagged in Ubuntu Software (a.k.a. Ubuntu Software Center) as "non-free" like VLC or hexchat. Unfortunately meaning of "non-free" is not explained as far as I can see. Does it mean "free software" as opposite of "proprietary"? Or does it mean it requires a price to pay to install and use? Furthermore, I cannot see any license information of such software. As they are listed as "non-free", a user might think that they are closed source software. However in fact vlc and hexchat are open source software. This is misleading. I suggest adding short and descriptive license information. It should always be noted if a software is open source or not. In addition, if a software is under a common "free software" license such as GPL or Apache it also can be stated. This would provide users with valuable and easy to understand information about software he/she is about to install. I also suggest adding repository information of any software. Is it in "main", "universe", "restricted" or "multiverse"? This would provide users with meaningful extra information. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1663867] Re: Ubuntu Software does not show all available software
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better! The default Software app starting in Ubuntu 16.04 is gnome-software (or ubuntu-software). It would be more useful if you would file an individual bug for each app that should show in the Software app but isn't. If you do this, please add the tag appstream to each bug, so that someone who wants to work on this type of issue can easily find these bugs. I'm closing this bug since this isn't fixable in gnome-software itself. ** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) => gnome-software (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1663867 Title: Ubuntu Software does not show all available software Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 16.10 Release: 16.10 main, universe, restricted and multiverse repositories are enabled. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center $ apt-cache policy software-center software-center: Installed: (none) Candidate: 16.01+16.04.20160420 Version table: 16.01+16.04.20160420 500 500 http://tr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu yakkety/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://tr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu yakkety/universe i386 Packages 3) What you expected to happen It is expected that when I search for a software by using Ubuntu Software (a.k.a. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1663872] [NEW] License information of "non-free" software are not described
Public bug reported: Many software are tagged in Ubuntu Software (a.k.a. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1621753] Re: Google Cast no longer finds Chromecast device
Workaround no longer works Evans... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1621753 Title: Google Cast no longer finds Chromecast device Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After upgrading to latest chromium-browser version (52.0.2743.116-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.1250), the Google Cast extension no longer finds the Chromecast (v2) device. This used to work with the previous chromium version. Also, google-chrome-stable 53.0.2785.101-1 works fine on the same box, so the issue is with the chromium update.
