[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1674164] Re: DVDs with restricted permissions are unreadable for normal user (regression?)

2017-04-15 Thread mikbini
"differently correct" was meant to be a joke :)

Unfortunately, I don't have the DVDs at hand: my mother in law dug out
those old family video DVDs, brought them with her when he came to visit
us.

I'll try and recover them from her but it will take 2 or 3 months.

Apologies for all the details above but I think they make an important
part of the use-case: "I need to play some crappy DVDs and I have no
control to how they were created years ago".

Title:
DVDs with restricted permissions are unreadable for normal user
  (regression?)

Status in udisks2 package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I'm using 16.10. I have a DVD with strange permissions for the root
  folder:

  michele@cassandra:~$ ls -l /media/michele
  total 2
  d--x--x--- 3 michele michele 88 gen 1 2004 SONY_DVD_RECORDER_VOLUME

The DVD is readable e.g. on windows but with ubuntu while I can access
  it as root:

  root@cassandra:~# ls -l /media/michele/SONY_DVD_RECORDER_VOLUME/
  total 4
  dr-xr-xr-x 2 michele michele 3628 gen 1 2004 VIDEO_TS

I cannot as the non-root user that is logged in when I insert the
  disk:

  michele@cassandra:~$ ls -l /media/michele/SONY_DVD_RECORDER_VOLUME
  ls: cannot open directory '/media/michele/SONY_DVD_RECORDER_VOLUME':
Permission denied

Looking at the mount options it seems to me that this is a regression
for bug #10550. The options used by udisks2 are:

  root@cassandra:~# mount |grep SONY
  /dev/sr0 on /media/michele/SONY_DVD_RECORDER_VOLUME type udf
(ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,uhelper=udisks2)

while my understanding from bug #10550 is that I should have also
  mode=0777 and dmode=0777

  And indeed this works:

  root@cassandra:~# mount -t udf -o

ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,uhelper=udisks2,mode=0777,dmode=0777
  /dev/sr0 ~michele/z

  michele@cassandra:~$ ls -l ~michele/z
  total 4
  drwxrwxrwx 2 michele michele 3628 gen 1 2004 VIDEO_TS

Bug description:
  [SRU Justification]
Ubuntu 16.10 server uses systemd-resolved by default, configured both as a
DNS stub resolver on 127.0.0.53 and as an NSS module via libnss-resolved
talking to the dbus service. The DNS stub resolver has a bug that causes it to
fail to resolve CNAME records. This went unnoticed before release because by
default the NSS module is used. But a chroot or container on the system that
does not include libnss-resolved and is configured to use the stub resolver
will experience DNS failures.

  [Test case]
  1. On a yakkety server system, create a xenial chroot with mk-sbuild (or
equivalent).
  2. Make sure that the host system has /etc/resolv.conf pointed at 127.0.0.53.
  2. Enter the chroot with 'sudo schroot -c xenial-amd64' or such.
  3. Install the iputils-ping package.
  4. ping www.freedesktop.org
  5. Confirm that the hostname does not resolve.
  6. Install the systemd package from yakkety-proposed onto the host system.
  7. ping www.freedesktop.org
  8. Confirm that the hostname does now resolve.

  [Regression potential]
With a 247-line patch to a key service, there is some risk of regression.
Regression risk is mitigated because this patch is already present in zesty and
upstream, where no regressions have been reported, and because it only touches
the DNS stub resolver which is not the code path used by default on host
systems.

  $ systemd-resolve www.freedesktop.org

  # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
  # 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
  # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

  nameserver 127.0.0.53
  $ dig +no{cmd,comments,stats} www.freedesktop.org @127.0.0.53

  annarchy.freedesktop.org. 14399 IN A 131.252.210.176

I trust it needn’t be explained why this makes the internet almost
  completely useless in zesty.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1683096] [NEW] [37722QP, Realtek ALC269VC, Black Headphone Out, Left] audio balance slider problem

2017-04-15 Thread Gabriel Longo
Public bug reported:

Sound works normally on the standard speakers, but when I put on the
headphone I notice that only the left side emits sound, so I go to the

the slider and move it out of the center and then center it again, and
the sound is properly balanced normally.

  and selected "Enable Networking":

  the result was:

grep: /etc/resolv.conf: No such File or directory.

Unknown group "power" in message bus configuration file.

(Networking did not enable, leaving me stranded at root shell without
network which would have made adding/removing packages to troubleshoot
  easier)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1575887] Re: Intuos Art / Intuos Draw 2015 isn't detected by the wacom properties window

2017-04-15 Thread Eugenio Perea
I have the same issue: the tablet works but is not detected by System Settings.
Is there a workaround, should I wait until the bug is fixed, or do something
else?
I've updated the kernel driver and the X driver, but I'm holding off installing
libwacom until I understand what is the best course of action.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1681884] Re: [Dell XPS 9360] NetworkManager fails to detect wifi device in 17.04 Zesty

Title:
[Dell XPS 9360] NetworkManager fails to detect wifi device in 17.04
  Zesty

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Upon a "clean" upgrade (No software installed except base system from
  ISO, then upgrade) from 16.04 LTS -> 16.10 -> 17.04 on a Dell 9360,
Network Manager fails to detect wiFi device in 17.04 Zesty after a few
boots/updates. Wifi works initially. I apply Zesty updates. I
autoremoved some packages. I reboot. Wifi is killed. I cannot
report the bug using "ubuntu-bug" because I have no network
  connectivity.

The wifi device was not detected despite re-enabling Dell's Xenial
  repos after upgrades.

  I have a Dell DA200 adapter USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0.
Plugging ethernet cable into that does not work either. It seemed the
adapter was "half" recognized. Something did show up in Network
Manager after fiddling with settings, but no network connectivity ever
occurred. I can create a separate bug for that if needed.

I subsequently had to revert back to 16.04 LTS with a clean install to
report the bug. I'm not so familiar with what the Dell repos provide
for Xenial. Do they provide the drivers needed for the wifi? Or is
that supplied through the kernel? Could the autoremove have caused
the wifi drivers to be removed?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1677198] Re: OpenVPN not Working in 17.04

2017-04-15 Thread Marcin Wojcik
Installed Ubuntu Mate 17.04 today. Tried also Ubuntu 17.04. OpenVPN
created by importing *.ovpn file. Does not work with the same error
reported by others. Did not try on 16.10 or 16.04LTS.

Bug description:
I can definitely confirm that Network Manager's OpenVPN is not working
  yet in Ubuntu 17.04.

I set up my configuration via import:
  http://neartalk.com/ss/2017-03-29_001_633x332.png

On all earlier versions of Ubuntu, after importing the configuration,
I'm able to connect to the VPN. However, in 17.04, connection attempts
  always give this error immediately:

"The VPN Connection disconnected because the VPN Service has stopped"

Clearly the VPN Service has NOT stopped. I've confirmed that this
error is false by taking the exact same import-file and I imported it
into an Ubuntu 16.04 computer and then the VPN connected without
issue. Also, with this same import-file I've had no issues in Ubuntu
  16.10.

So I've thoroughly confirmed that there is no issue with the VPN
service. The issue is with the client in Ubuntu 17.04.

I cannot upgrade to 17.04 until this is fixed.

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,
I think this is a bug in the WIFI-driver or kernel.
Ubuntu is connected to the WIFI (router) box, but it cannot find DNS server
to get to the internet.

I have periodically *serious* problems with WIFI in Ubuntu 17.04.
The network icon shows "connected" to the router and internet, but browsers
and other attempts to get data report DNS error / or not connected.

This happens in all flavours of Ubuntu 17.04 (Ubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME
  etc.).

Same laptop with Ubuntu 16.10 works flawlessly.

The connection works fine after I reboot (power off/on) the router box.
Then the bug may return (or may not return) after I turn on my laptop next
time.

This laptop is Toshiba Stellite P50 C.
The laptop has Intel Corporation Wireless 3165 (rev 81).

  $ lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net; uname -r; ls /lib/firmware/ | grep

Restarting the network.manager does not help.
  $ sudo service network-manager restart
Network manager connects (and sees) to the router, but cannot access internet.

When headphones are plugged in, there is a clearly audible hiss (white
noise). This is present as soon as the headphones are plugged in, whether
'headphones' or 'headset' are selected from the pop-up box.

Using alsamixer to debug the issue reveals that it is related to
"Headphone Mic Boost" - the default setting is: dB gain 0.00, 0.00. If
  this is changed to:

10.00, 10.00 (one notch up) the hiss disappears.
  20.00, 20.00 cause a louder hiss and
30.00, 30.00 causes an even louder hiss with high frequency audio artifacts.

When the headphones are removed and plugged back in the Headphone Mic
Boost setting returns to dB gain 0 and the problem also returns.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1274193] Re: Nautilus Extract Here interprets backslashes as characters not directories

2017-04-15 Thread Martin Wildam
Update: Not a problem of FileRoller - ZIP was created under Windows
using PowerShell and that thing has a bug in creating ZIPs. They use
backslashes in filenames rather than forward slashes which does not
meet the standard.

Best regards, Martin.

Nautilus Extract Here interprets backslashes as characters not

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Nautilus 3.4.2 Extract Here function interprets backslashes as
characters not directories in a ZIP file which probably has
directories saved in some MS Windows way, so that directories are
  stored using backslash.

I run Extract Here on a ZIP file and the result are files with
  backslash in file name, e.g.

  lf78011331_US_DEM/US_DEM\info\arc.nit
  lf78011331_US_DEM/US_DEM\us_dem\dblbnd.adf

The expected result is what unzip gives me, e.g.:

  US_DEM/info/arc.nit
  US_DEM/us_dem/dblbnd.adf

UnZip 6.00 of 20 April 2009 recognizes the directory structure and
creates correct file names and directories.

I had this problem with the attached ZIP file (public domain data from USGS)
with content:
  ./US_DEM.grid.aux
  ./US_DEM.prj
  ./us_dem
  ./us_dem/sta.adf
  ./us_dem/prj.adf
  ...
  ./Metadata.dbf
  ...
  ./info
  ./info/arc.nit
  ./info/arc0002.nit
  ...
  ./Metadata.prj

(two sub-directories: us_dem and info, everything is in one parent
  directory US_DEM)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638842] Re: network-manager does not manage ethernet and bluetooth interfaces when Ubuntu 16.10 is installed using chroot/netboot method

2017-04-15 Thread Lincoln Rickwood
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1658921 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1658921

On 2017-04-15 I upgraded from 16.04 to 16.10 on the way to 17.04. This
issue was the one and only problem I encountered.

In my case I started the wired interface manually (sudo ifconfig enp3s0
up && sudo dhclient epn3s0), got on-line and found this page. Message 6
above worked perfectly, and it's an easy fix once one knows what to do -
but not until then.

It would be a very good idea to fix this, because as observed above it's
a disproportionate nuisance as it prevents web access, hindering the the
search for a fix and for neophytes - exactly the people we want to get
using Linux - that could drive them away.

network-manager does not manage ethernet and bluetooth interfaces when

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Hello,

  I installed Ubuntu 16.10 using a chroot. I use network-manager to
manage connections. My system is up-to-date (so I use network-manager
  1.2.4-0ubuntu1).

Wifi works perfectly but I cannot connect to wired networks and using
my phone's Bluetooth connection. Corresponding devices are said to be
unmanaged by network-manager. nmcli dev outputs:

  DEVICETYPE STATE CONNECTION
  enp1s0ethernet unmanaged --
  wlp2s0wifi disconnected --
  6C:9B:02:2C:EE:2C btunmanaged --
  hfp/org/bluez/hci0/dev_6C_9B_02_2C_EE_2C gsm unmanaged --
  loloopback unmanaged --

The following command has no effect:
sudo nmcli dev set enp1s0 managed yes

I can connect to a wired connection by doing:
  ifconfig enp1s0 up
  dhclient enp1s0

There is nothing in the file /etc/network/interfaces.

Everything works perfectly if I downgrade network-manager to this
  version: network-manager_1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb
  (http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial-updates/amd64/network-
manager/download). I had to install libreadline6 and downgrade nplan
  to meet dependencies.

I don't know what to join to this bug report so please ask in case
  anything is needed.

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

NetworkManager does not manage my wired eth0 connection, no matter how

  /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

Using ubuntu 16.04, /etc/network/interfaces only managed lo, and
[ifupdown] section of NetworkManager.conf had set managed=false.

With these same settings, after upgrading to ubuntu 16.10, eth0
  appears as unmanaged in nm-applet.

If I modify /etc/network/interfaces and add

  auto eth0
  iface eth0 inet dhcp

And set managed=true in NetworkManager.conf [ifupdown] section, eth0
is still unmanaged despite it does get an IP from DHCP server.

This is happening in my five computers (two laptops and three
  desktops).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2017-04-15 Thread tlk
I see the patch's been dropped for zesty

changelog.Debian for xserver-xorg-core says:
xorg-server (2:1.19.3-1ubuntu1) zesty; urgency=medium
  * 208_switch_on_release.diff: Dropped, doesn't work with 1.19.

There's a new patch posted to the corresponding bug on freedesktop
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 (attachment:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=129861) which is
supposedly compatible with 1.19

Could someone look at it please?
Vanilla behavior for those who used to switching input layout with something
like Ctrl-Shift is really annoying.

Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not

Status in X.Org X server:

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
This is a bug about shortcuts mapped to combinations which include
  each other.

For example, if we have Ctrl+Shift (for keyboard layout) and Ctrl+Shift+N (to
open a new terminal), then we are practically unable to use the second
shortcut; this is what happens:
  Ctrl press (nothing happens)
  Shift press (keyboard layout change)
N (a simple N appears, since a shortcut has already fired)

The expected behavior is to fire shortcuts on the release (not on
press) of the special keys (ctrl, shift, alt, etc) which is also how
Windows behave. This is a serious problem for bilingual layouts,
typically using Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift for keyboard layout change.

For users being affected by this problem, the easiest solution for now is to
add this PPA in your repositories:
  https://launchpad.net/~oded-geek/+archive/xorg-patches

Practical summary of this bug for ubuntu developers (since reading 120
comments is impractical for most):
This problem is a really old (since 2004) issue of the xkb part of xorg; the
main discussion was made upstream in freedesktop-bugs #865. There has been a
patch from Ilya Murav'jov for upstream (#55), and attached here (#61).
Upstream xorg has refused to apply the patch, mainly because it "explicitly
contradicts the (xkb) spec" (#84, #91).
This patch has been reported to work for many people without any problems,
and there is also a PPA by Oded Arbel (#95) where he maintains a patched
version of the ubuntu xorg.
The proper resolution of this bug would be to apply this patch to the
upstream xorg, or at minimum to the official ubuntu xorg package.

filesystems, drop to root shell, etc.

  and selected "Enable Networking":

  the result was:

grep: /etc/resolv.conf: No such File or directory.

Unknown group "power" in message bus configuration file.

(Networking did not enable, leaving me stranded at root shell without
network which would have made adding/removing packages to troubleshoot
  easier)

gnome-software on Ubuntu 17.04 distro wont install downloaded apps

Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Downloaded gitkraken from https://www.gitkraken.com/download
Downlaod file was saved in my user ~/Downloads folder is gitkraken-amd64.deb
Clicked on file in Downloads folder and it opens `Ubuntu Software` app and
offers an `Install` button
Click Install button and nothing happens. The button goes through the
click-state changes visually but the app is not installed

To install the app I have to open a terminal and run
  sudo dpkg -i ~/Downlaods/gitkraken-amd64.deb
  sudp apt install -y -f

In the GUI app, I am not prompted to elevate, no error is given and no
action results from clicking on the button.

This is a clean, fresh install of 17.04 from 4/12/2017 (disk
repartitioned by defaults and OS installed fresh on the clean disk)

Repro'd same behavior with Google Chrome .deb file - had to install it
  manually.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1682701] Re: Fails To Connect To WPA2 WiFi

2017-04-15 Thread Frank Sokolic
Have just upgraded from 16.10 to 17.04 and can no longer connect to the
router using my D-Link EDUP 802.11N wireless usb adapter. It worked fine
with 16.10.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1682978] Re: Random Screen Rotation

2017-04-15 Thread James Jones
For me, it's counterclockwise. I tried setting the "lock rotation"
option referenced in https://askubuntu.com/questions/874487/ubuntu-
gnome-16-10-screen-orientation-spontaneously-changes (had to switch to
Unity 8 to find it), but it didn't make a difference when I logged back
in under Cinnamon, the windowing environment I usually use.

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
NetworkManager does not manage my wired eth0 connection, no matter how
  I set /etc/network/interfaces or
  /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

I'v just installed Ubuntu Mate 17.04 and this patch doesn't appear to work
anymore - suspect it's because Xorg has moved from evdev to libinput for
handling the issue of input.
Really would like to bring the old behavior back. If anyone knows of a solution
I'd be grateful if you point me at it.

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1682192] Re: My printers are not recognized by Ubuntu 16.10

2017-04-15 Thread Paul White
I'm not sure why you would report your issue against xorg but
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Printing suggests that
*cups* is the package to report such issues against.

You might also take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems

Also, reporting any issues that you come across in the English language,
if that is possible, would be of great help to bug triagers.

Bug description:
Evolution appears unable to create an EW or MAPI account. All the
steps proceed normally, including fetching the URL (for EWS) or
authenticating (for MAPI). However, at the conclusion of account
creation process, no actual account appears in the list.

I've tried starting Evolution from the command line using various
DEBUG_ variables and there are no EWS- or MAPI-specific errors. So I'm
not exactly sure what to do next.

I am fairly certain the problem doesn't lie with my corporate Exchange
server, as web mail works fine and any other EWS-capable client (like
  the mail app in Android).

Bug description:
My Panda USB wi-fi adapter works just fine on 16.10, but when I try to
connect to my wi-fi router in 17.04, GNOME network manager reports
"Connection failed." I did some tinkering, and noticed that my MAC

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1681523] Re: [Launcher] missing right click options

2017-04-15 Thread md_5
Affects me too - very annoying!
Tried replacing the gnome-terminal.desktop file with the one from Yakkety, but
that didn't help, so I'm out of ideas.
Other applications such as Firefox have their right click options just fine.

Just noticed that "Right Click" options for the "Terminal" App are
missing when it's locked to the 'Launcher' side-bar.

You used to get the option to open "Open a New Window" or "Open a New
Tab" when you right clicked on the launcher icon.

Now the only options are "Terminal", "Unlock from Launcher" and
  "Quit".

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1681513] Re: Ubuntu 17.04: wi-fi not working — mac address keeps changing?

2017-04-15 Thread Mike_IronFist
Hey friends, make sure you click "this bug affects me too" so that
anyone who reads this report will know it's affecting a lot of users.

I can reproduce the bug on Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu Mate 17.04 and Ubuntu GNOME
17.04.
The workaround in the first comment here does fix the issue for me as well so
it appears to just be a poor default configuration.

I'm using a Panda Wireless USB adapter, which has an Ralink RT5372
chipset in it.

Bug description:
My Panda USB wi-fi adapter works just fine on 16.10, but when I try to
connect to my wi-fi router in 17.04, GNOME network manager reports
"Connection failed." I did some tinkering, and noticed that my MAC
address for my wifi adapter, according to GNOME, is DIFFERENT every
time I make it forget my wifi settings and try to reconnect. Weird,
right? Any leads on a possible fix or work-around?

I'm running the latest beta of Ubuntu GNOME 17.04, kernel
  4.10.0-19-generic, GNOME 3.24.0.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629251] Re: Some app-indicators not showing menus

2017-04-15 Thread Mark Tidd
Yes, I have this same problem with the dropbox indicator and also the
pia indicator, the latter is more important as I can no longer switch
which server I am using, so if this server I am currently using goes
awry then I am stuck. I am a relative beginner with linux so don't have
the means to fix this myself. Hope someone can fix this with some clear
instructions or an update.
