[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1677198] Re: OpenVPN not Working in 17.04 via "Import a saved VPN configuration"
Hi again, (follow-up to #18 & #19 posts) I found out that "Display Mode" in Settings -> Devices -> Displays was set to "Join Displays". Setting it to "Single Display" solves for me the issue of windows appearing on the 2nd monitor. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-openvpn in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1677198 Title: OpenVPN not Working in 17.04 via "Import a saved VPN configuration" Status in NetworkManager: New Status in network-manager-openvpn package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I can definitely confirm that Network Manager's OpenVPN is not working yet in Ubuntu 17.04. I set up my configuration via import: http://neartalk.com/ss/2017-03-29_001_633x332.png On all earlier versions of Ubuntu, after importing the configuration, I'm able to connect to the VPN. However, in 17.04, connection attempts always give this error immediately: "The VPN Connection disconnected because the VPN Service has stopped" Clearly the VPN Service has NOT stopped. I've confirmed that this error is false by taking the exact same import-file and I imported it into an Ubuntu 16.04 computer and then the VPN connected without issue. Also, with this same import-file I've had no issues in Ubuntu 16.10. So I've thoroughly confirmed that there is no issue with the VPN service. The issue is with the client in Ubuntu 17.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1677198] Re: OpenVPN not Working in 17.04 via "Import a saved VPN configuration"
Hello, I had a problem importing configuration files to create a VPN connection. Nothing would happen after clicking on "Import from file..". After countless attempts (and only after turning my 2nd monitor on) I realized that the "Select file to import" window opens on the 2nd monitor and can't be moved to the main monitor. After selecting the file to import and clicking "Open" on the 2nd monitor, the rest of the procedure to add a VPN worked fine and I was able to set a VPN connection. I hope this helps. PS: The same problem occurs with other applications. Ex. Trying to open a document in LibreOffice, the window to select the file opens on the 2nd monitor. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 876298] ☁look at that amazing stuff
Hi friend! Just look at that amazing stuff I've just come across, it's simply cool. Here, take a look http://www.motivation.eu/annually.php?UE84NzYyOThAYnVncy5sYXVuY2hwYWQubmV0 Walter Cvallari From: Bug 876298 [mailto:876...@bugs.launchpad.net] Sent: Saturday, November 11, 2017 8:07 PM To: walter@inwind.it Subject: This is so awesome!!! The only thing the F-35 has proven reliably is that it can drive up development costs and blow past deadlines. TIL that the software to allow it to fire its main cannon will be ready in 2019. That's 25 years into development. Am I really seriously expected to believe that it takes 25 years to write the code for the thing to be able to fire its gun? I also don't understand why code should be involved in that. In other planes it works something like "If you press [this] button [that] gun fires." They've been able to do that fairly consistently throughout aviation history. Somehow the F-35 has a new take on that idea. Now it's a software thing. I can't see a thing going wrong with that at all. It's a lost cause. This is one for the military history books. Sent from Mail for Windows 10 ** Attachment added: "87B7B3E282F849D1.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876298/+attachment/5007686/+files/87B7B3E282F849D1.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to flashplugin-nonfree in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876298 Title: [FFe] [MASTER] We need to better handle external payloads (Flash, msttcorefonts) not being available. Status in Adobe Flash Plugin Tools: Invalid Status in flashplugin-nonfree package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in msttcorefonts package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in update-notifier package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: At the 11.10 release archive.canonical.com collapsed under heavy load and started returning 503 errors. This caused the flash package to be unable to grab its payload and thus caused the package to fail, which in turn caused the installation to fail. The current plan is to add metadata to a package where it can add a URL to retrieve its data, so ubiquity and apt-get --download-only can cache it. We also need a way to queue up package installation post- install, for when we commit to installing flash but cannot do so due to network issues, or when the user wishes to have full language support post-install. This change requires a freeze exception for precise, as it involves adding new features to update-notifier and significant reworking of the maintainer scripts for the affected packages. It also introduces new UI components; however these UI components are only visible in the event of a failure, so I don't think we should block on UI freeze for making this change given the significant benefit to the install experience when a download fails. I attempted several workarounds, including deleting and readding icons to dock, uninstalling and reinstalling Docky. No luck with any. Verified on four other computers from different manufacturers. Consistent problem that appears to be application-specific. For example, Firefox appears to work properly. ** Affects: wayland (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- 17.10 gnome icons don't reflect/use existing open windows in certain applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725447 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to wayland in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1377653] Re: HDMI sound output not detected / NVIDIA optimus laptop
@Rudi My BIOS doesn't have options for controlling nVidia GPU and Intel iGPU. When I bought this laptop I thought I would be using Intel iGPU only and was shocked to learn there was no HDMI screen until nVidia drivers were installed. It took me about a month to figure that out. Then a couple of days with this sound issue that you solved. Thanks again! I'm not sure how to have nVidia take control of built-in display and Thuderbolt3 display which "I think" Intel iGPU is controlling now. The screen flickering during boot (and the extra couple of seconds too) is not a big deal for me. Now I'm more concerned about the 20-40 pixel underscan nVidia GTX970M pumps out over Linux that doesn't happen in Windows 10. Also the soft to loud fluctuating sound levels when ThunderBolt3 HDMI sound is used to second TV (haven't checked that in Windows 10 yet which if same means its the adapter). Then I have dozens of bash scripts to upgrade to Windows Subsystem of Linux which requires PowerShell instead of linux kernel commands. Also `gedit` and `nautilus` need "tweaking" when running under xfce4, VcXsrv, WSL and Windows 10, etc., etc. So yeah... plate is kind of full. I've already saved 10 seconds in BIOS POST reconfiguring so I'll live with extra 2 seconds of Ubuntu post-grub boot screen flickering... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1377653 Title: HDMI sound output not detected / NVIDIA optimus laptop Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi, not sure if this is an alsa or nvidia/nouveau bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1707352] Re: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug-ins for sane
Thank you, staedtler-przyborski. The workaround you link to in comment #102 worked immediately for my Brother MFC-J220 scanner, on Ubuntu 17.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to sane-backends in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1707352 Title: the change from libsane to libsane1 broke many (all?) 3rd party plug- ins for sane Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in sane-backends source package in Artful: Fix Committed Status in sane-backends package in Debian: New Bug description: Note to SRU Team The first proposed fix (1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2) failed because it needed to be a versioned Provides, not just a Provides. Impact == 1) The Debian maintainer renamed libsane to libsane1-experimental "to match with the soname". This apparently fixes a Lintian warning, but makes installing 3rd-party plug-ins hard, as they typically depend on "libsane", not on "libsane1". The first try to add a "Provides: libsane" to libsane1 (which created a virtual package) didn't make drivers installable that claim to depend on a minimum version of libsane as virtual packages are ignored in this case. 2) The soname change might be justified by the new version breaking (several? most?) 3rd party plug-ins even if the library version number doesn't indicate any bigger change than any ordinary new version of the library - which might indicate that this phenomenon might be an upstream bug. libsane 1.0.25 in zesty includes libsane.so.1.25 libsane1 1.0.27 in artful includes libsane.so.1.27 It is to note that depending on the manufacturer for many old scanners there won't be new versions of the plug-ins that are recompiled like this. Test Case = Visit http://support.epson.net/linux/en/iscan_c.html Download the amd64 deb .tar.gz Unzip it. Install the iscan .deb from the core folder. It won't install before this SRU because it Depends: libsane Regression Potential The fix here was proposed to the Debian maintainer in July but there's been virtually zero response on it. In the meantime the workaround that was proposed initially has started to result in automatically uninstalling gtk - which makes the system basically useless. It doesn't seem like adding the Provides will make things any worse for third-party drivers but it has a goodme chance of making things better for some. Original Bug Report === I don't know if that can be prevented in the long run. But both brscan (for my brother scanner) and iscan (for my epson scanners) have been broken by the change from libsane to libsane1. For iscan I have unpackaged the debian package, changed the dependency it contains from libsane to libsane1 and installed the changed package. But even then my epson scanners no more work leaving me without any scanner => Reporting a bug. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1377653] Re: HDMI sound output not detected / NVIDIA optimus laptop
I can confirm solution in #19 works. Only caveats: 1) Rename `/root/` occurrences to `/usr/local/bin/` 2) Screens flickers on/off a couple/few times during boot. My platform has nVidia GTX 970M hardwired to built-in HDMI hooked up to external TV. Intel Skylake HD530 graphics controlling laptop built-in display and USB-C Thunderbolt3 DisplayPort with HDMI adapter to 2nd external TV. Everything works seamlessly in Windows 10 and I'm glad the patch in #19 gets things one step closer to working in Linux/Ubuntu 16.04. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1724557] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_logical_monitor_get_scale()
This bug may still be impacting me, but since I'm not 100% sure if the cause is the same I am not sure. It seems to have gotten better in some but not all situations. I did reboot to apply the released fix so this is the most recent versions hopefully. Perhaps useful to note that it doesn't crash until the monitor turns back on. I was able to test this because I play brown noise in a terminal with the monitor off but not locked overnight. In the morning sound is still playing, and I was able to Ctl-C without turning on the monitor to turn off the sound so it was still a responsive and logged in system until then. But then it crashed when I turned the monitor back on. I've uploaded the crash logs for the different methods of failure a few times using ubuntu-bug. I'm not certain that the logs are showing up, nor sure how to check. When I run ubuntu-bug on the crash file it opens the dialog for reporting a bug, I click continue but then the dialog immediately exits with no further user interaction. Is this correct behavior? I seem to remember years ago that the dialog would open up a web browser to this site but it hasn't done that in ages for me. I'm assuming it's working transparently now but please let me know if they aren't showing up as reported bugs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1724557 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_logical_monitor_get_scale() Status in Mutter: Fix Released Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi all, Originally I was reporting bug 1717170, about session crash after monitor disconnect/switch-off/input change on desktop PC and the bug was fixed according to bug tracker. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1102354] Re: Impossible for non-administrator users to connect to new wireless networks
Still a problem in Bionic Beaver development. In the past you could work around it by going into network properties, and manually adding a network, being careful to uncheck the "make it available for all users" option. I couldn't work around it in Bionic. But the point is that you shouldn't have to "work around" anything. A normal user should be able to follow the simple process of selecting the wireless and being prompted to connect and save the password just for himself. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102354 Title: Impossible for non-administrator users to connect to new wireless networks Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have configured a laptop for a non tech-savvy member of my familiy, and therefore not given his user any administrative rights. It is impossible for him to connect to a new wireless networks, since that requires administrative priviledges. This makes the laptop more or less useless for him. I believe the root cause is that it by default tries to save the network connection and make it avaiable for all users, which requires administrative priviledges. Since it is a non-administrator user that is trying to connec to the network it should not try to add it for all users. Problem has been reproduced on several machines running Ubuntu 12.10, it can easily be triggered: 1. ( Create a user with a standard account ) 2. Log in as a normal users 3. Try to connect to a wireless network - you will now be asked for the password of the administrator account, which the user of course doesn't have. Note, the bug in step 3 will only trigger if another user hasn't previously connected to that network, because then it would already be stored in the system global network settings :~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.10 Release: 12.10 :~$ apt-cache policy network-manager network-manager: Installed: 0.9.6.0-0ubuntu7 Candidate: 0.9.6.0-0ubuntu7 Version table: *** 0.9.6.0-0ubuntu7 0 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/1102354/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 578844] Fw: awesome!
Yo! I've seen something really awesome recently and wanted to show this info together with you. Here, take a peek http://www.ucovcheg.ru/she.php?UE81Nzg4NDRAYnVncy5sYXVuY2hwYWQubmV0 My best to you, Gianni Massaro From: Bug 578844 [mailto:578...@bugs.launchpad.net] Sent: Saturday, November 11, 2017 3:08 AM To: giannimass...@inwind.it Subject: from what to what? The green cubes are Hallow cubes from the Hallowfest event, they're recoloured T10 cubes in short. The rectifiers were from a trick that doesn't really work anymore. The T9 ones used to have 9000ish armour in a really compact space, so I put them on the front of my gun stalks to absorb a couple of SMG shots that flew in that direction. They recently knocked the armour down to 5000ish so it doesn't really work now.
