[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1682637] Re: during recovery mode, enable network failed due to /etc/resolv.conf not being present

2017-12-31 Thread Domizio Demichelis
None of the above worked here! Without the /etc/resolv.conf nothing
works obviously, then the dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf does nothing (i.e.
there is still no file after running it. Adding it manually solved a
part of the problem, but the Unknown group "power" still blocks starting
of the network. How to fix that one?

  and selected "Enable Networking":

  the result was:

grep: /etc/resolv.conf: No such File or directory.

network which would have made adding/removing packages to troubleshoot

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1740644] Re: audacious assert failure: *** Error in `audacious': double free or corruption (out): 0x00007eff44005b70 ***

2017-12-31 Thread Doug McMahon
audacious doesn't appear to use gvfs-backends so to test removed the backends
package & replaced current libcdio packages with these 3, then it (audacious)
works fine
libcdio16_0.94-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libcdio-cdda2_10.2+0.94+2-2_amd64.deb
libcdio-paranoia2_10.2+0.94+2-2_amd64.deb

So issue seems to be with libcdio17

I have a fresh install of ubuntu 17.10. I start nautilus (using

When I select "Share this folder" it says the sharing service is not
installed, so I select "Install Service" and it offers to install

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1740700] [NEW] rhythmbox keeps playing music after closing

2017-12-31 Thread Simon P.
Public bug reported:

I am on 17.10 now but I also experienced the following behaviour all
recent Ubuntu versions.

What I expect to happen: After closing Rhythmbox by pressing "x" in the menu
bar, the program should really close and music should stop playing.

What actually happens: Rhythmbox keeps running in the background. To
finally stop the music I have to press pause in the Gnome shell addon
(17.10) or press the audio button in the top panel and pause the music
there (17.04 and prior versions).

I know that this a "feature" rather than a real bug. However, this behaviour
very counterintuitive - all other programs (included in Ubuntu by default)
close on "x". Plus it does not even have any benefit on usability- we have that
neat dock to park programs that run in the background.

Therefore I see no reason that Rhythmbox should in this regard behave
different and I would call it a bug in user experience. I think it
should be changed, at least in future Ubuntu versions.

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2017-12-31 Thread jesus225
No matter what you do, gnome-shell eats up RAM slowly. In case you
shutdown your machine after every use, you will not notice it, however,
if you keep it running or tend to suspend/hibernate, it will reach a
point when it will swap.

After one day of usage (just web browsing) gnome-shell increased ram
usage from 100M to 350M. It does not free it up even if you close all
windows. In my 4GB machine, it means that either I restart every day or
I start facing swap issues the second day.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1733127] Re: Session crashes when monitor is disconnected

2017-12-31 Thread Luís Pedro Carvalho
According to last -x command my session also terminates only when turning the
screen back on.
I also confirm that the session is not only logged out but every process
created and all files in /run/shm/ are also killed.
It seemed like installing caffeine (disabling auto suspend and screensaver) had
solved it, but after turning the screen on in the morning the session crashed
at that moment.
In /var/crash there are files timestamped just after I turned the screen back
on of: caffeine, Xwayland and gnome-shell.
It's been hard to figure out a way around this bug.
This was a fresh install of 17.10 on AMD cpu and AMD gfx card, HDMI monitor.
Everything was updated before the latest crash occurred again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1711337] Re: Firefox crashes at start on armv7L after 55.0.1 update

2017-12-31 Thread herrtimson
Not fixed for trusty, it still fails with the same error over and over
again.

I do understand that this free software, and that the ubuntu devs are
unpayed volunteers basically. However, this is one is a big bummer for
so many people out there, so can you please throw some ressources at it
to solve this eventually?

It is possible to solve it, see the arch linux binary.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 111061] Re: Wine uses Windows colors instead of Ubuntu colors

Title:
Wine uses Windows colors instead of Ubuntu colors

Status in Wine:
  Confirmed
Status in wine package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in wine package in Baltix:
  New

Bug description:
Wine needs direction from the system theme in order to color itself,
as attempting to guess colors by probing the theme is complicated and
doesn't always work right, especially when the theme engine completely
  redoes the drawing of widgets.

As such, for Wine to look consistent, we should provide hints for Wine
inside each system theme package that Wine can then look to for
coloring itself. There are some suggestions about how to create a
uxtheme template that Wine can use here:
  http://wiki.winehq.org/XPThemes

  Original report:
Wine by default uses the Windows grey color for it's main window color, which
is ugly by itself. But when combined with the Ubuntu desktop it gets even
uglier. It would be nice to have wine pre-configured with the following color
scheme (which is adapted to Ubuntu colors):

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1177381] Re: Duplicity can't find its own tempdir

2017-12-31 Thread Romain
I guess I have a related error.
Initially I used deja-dup for the backup on ubuntu 17.10, but it fails silently
since weeks.
So I manually launched duplicity to find what is the error and it is quite
cryptic :

PASSPHRASE= duplicity incremental --progress --full-if-older-
than 90D --exclude --exclude --exclude -v 5
--allow-source-mismatch scp://

[... lots of messages that add or remove files ...]

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1740662] [NEW] eog shows irritating warning with tiff files

2017-12-31 Thread Harry
Public bug reported:

The eog shows each time I open a tiff file (tagged image file format)
this "warning" or "information" message:

"This image contains multiple pages. Image Viewer displays only the
first page. Do you want to open the image with the Document Viewer to
see all pages."

The reason to this is that Nikon creates a tiff file which contains two images,
the main image is the full image itself and the second is a thumbnail if it.
There are no pages here, and this is not a document, it is an image file.
So the warning file is erraneous.

This is actually intentional act and not a bug. But it doesn't make the issue
go away.
I cannot simply make this ugly blue information bar silent, not to appear again.

** Affects: eog (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
