[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1786757] Re: screencast no output on 3 display monitor

2018-08-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

Your desktop size of 4880x1085 is likely the factor here. I find that
surprising because apparently the AMD Cedar GPU shouldn't max out until
textures reach 16384x16384 [1].

Maybe it's a video encoding limitation then, such as [2] [3].

The Gnome shell developers might know already, so please report the bug to them
at:

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Clicking on the application button (with a mouse) in the Ubuntu Dock
causes the applications icons to be displayed.

  ISSUE

  On a Touch Screen...

The issue is, if you touch the application button in the Ubuntu Dock,
the applications icons appear (expand out from the button using
animation) but then they suddenly disappear (contract back into the
  button using animation).

If you touch the button and do not remove your finger, all of the
icons are displayed on the screen. As soon as you remove your finger,
the icons recede back into the button.

  EXPECTED

Touching the application button (with a finger) in the Ubuntu Dock should
cause the applications icons to be displayed. They should continue to be
displayed until the user selects an application,
presses the ESC key, or clicks an icon on the dock.

Blender 3D Modeler is missing 2/3 the "System tab" panel options
regarding to OpenGL, localization, font overrides, translations, lamp
directions and options to use custom colors for bone weights.

Since 18.04 beta 1 and 2, I have been comparing the blender 2.79b
present at the 18.04LTS obtained via apt-get to the one downloaded
directly from Blender Foundation. If you install Blender from apt-get
first, and then download and extract Blender from Blender Foundation
in any folder, running the software you can go to the "User
preference" options using CTRL U, and navigate to the "System tab"
  options.

Now, compare the system tab of both. 2/3 of the options are missing in
  the default apt-get (*)ubuntu install.

Many thanks for fixing this !

finally settles on using Xorg instead of Wayland.

I can tell because from ssh user 'gdm' is running:

  /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg vt2 -displayfd 3 -auth /run/user/121/gdm/Xauthority
-background none -noreset -keeptty -verbose 3

and not the usual Xwayland. Also the login screen offers no choice of
  Xorg or Wayland sessions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1786883] Re: [regression] Login screen flickers to black a few times on boot and then finally settles on using Xorg instead of Wayland

2018-08-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In both cases I see:

Aug 14 11:40:46 kab gnome-shell[890]: X Wayland crashed; exiting

Aug 14 11:49:16 kab gnome-shell[890]: X Wayland crashed; exiting

which would explain why the Wayland option is missing when I finally get
a login screen.

Unfortunately there are no crash files or core dumps :(

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1786880] Re: Changing language doesn't show previously selected language

2018-08-13 Thread Robert Ancell
This seems due to the 0010-set-language.patch in accountsservice. It
means when Settings chooses a locale (e.g. en_US.UTF-8) this is changed
to en_US in accountsservice. When Settings uses this to select the
current language it doesn't match against any entry.

Look, I don't want to give Bill Gates anything, period! However, I
know that there are fail safes, i.e. recover to a previous date
config that Windows offers. I have used it. It works! Meanwhile, I
  am dead in the water.

As I described on a couple of previous occasions in this forum,
Thunderbird, which I have been using as my email program for about 6
months, cannot be booted. Further, I have tried to reinstall from the

Does anybody have ideas on how I can get a decent email program to

Bug description:
Right now, Thunderbird in Ubuntu is packaged with a set of low-res
icons. Because of this, is you use KDE Plasma with the Large Icons
alt-tab task switcher, the Thunderbird icons look ugly:
  https://i.imgur.com/LdL7wlM.png

openSUSE packagers patch in larger icons, and so in openSUSE, they
  look sharp and crisp: https://i.imgur.com/Le8ZhWg.png

I have opened a ticket with Mozilla, but it has been ignored:
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1371931

So until they fix it upstream, we may want to consider adopting the
  openSUSE patch in Ubuntu:
  https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1057115

This way, KDE Plasma users will get nice Thunderbird icons in their
  Large Icons alt-tab task switchers.

"Update" tab confusingly blank when package manager is set to deal
  with updating

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have found that if you go into the Thunderbird Preferences, then go
to the "Advanced" section, and then the "Update" tab, you will find
that the page is blank, now even though this is because there are no
update settings in Thunderbird due to the fact that it's the built-in
package manager which will be handling the updates, and not
Thunderbird, having this section blank is rather confusing for many
users, so I think that it would be better if it would give an
explanation for why there are no settings there, for example it could
say: "Your built-in package manager is set to handle these settings.",
  or something of the sort.

Bug description:

When I open a new message from Thunderbird, with my window manager set
to metacity (Appearance-->Visual Effects-->None), I have an annoying
  problem.

New message windows do not get 'focussed' when they are opened. Their
title bar is grey, and the main Thunderbird window retains the focus.
This means that when I press alt-F4 or ctrl-W, my main Thunderbird
window is closed, instead of my message window. Very annoying, because
it means that I lose my place in the message list, etc etc, and I can
only get the main window back again my typing ctrl-1.

This happens only in one particlar case, which is when I *already*
have a message window open, and the message window is being re-used
for the new message. It doesn't happen if I have no message window
  already on.

Serious and easily-fixed usability bug IMHO, probably something in the
way that Thunderbird is interacting with the window manager, I would
  guess.

This bug is easiest to observe if you have chosen your spam filter to
move spam to another IMAP folder.

  To reproduce:
  - Start TB, and hope you have spam. :-)
  - Watch an e-mail get moved to Spam.
  - Right-click on the IMAP folder "Spam" and choose "Mark folder as read".
  - Repeat last step, because it doesn't work the first time.

I found a 3 years old report about this in the Mozilla bug tracker,
which is hardly encouraging, yet this is an annoying little bug that I
  hope someone can patch.

Either kcontrol is not talking to Thunderbird, or Thunderbird isn't
  listening to kcontrol.

First, I tried setting the default browser in kcontrol to "opera",
then "/usr/bin/opera", then "opera -backgroundpage", and then finally
"/usr/bin/opera -backgroundpage". Then I googled around, and saw that
somebody suggested adding to the Thunderbird advanced options
  (about:config) the lines "network.protocol-handler.app.http" and
"network.protocol-handler.app.https", and to set both to use "opera"
as the value. I actually went and tried all the same things I tried
plugging in to kcontrol here. Needless to say, nothing worked.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1715214] [NEW] Adopt openSUSE patch that adds high-res icons for Thunderbird, so the Large Icons task switcher in KDE Plasma doesn't have an ugly Thunderbird icon

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Right now, Thunderbird in Ubuntu is packaged with a set of low-res
icons. Because of this, is you use KDE Plasma with the Large Icons alt-
tab task switcher, the Thunderbird icons look ugly:
https://i.imgur.com/LdL7wlM.png

openSUSE packagers patch in larger icons, and so in openSUSE, they look
sharp and crisp: https://i.imgur.com/Le8ZhWg.png

I have opened a ticket with Mozilla, but it has been ignored:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1371931

So until they fix it upstream, we may want to consider adopting the
openSUSE patch in Ubuntu:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1057115

This way, KDE Plasma users will get nice Thunderbird icons in their
Large Icons alt-tab task switchers.

While composing an email in Thunderbird, when I go to switch
dictionaries from, say, English (US) to Spanish (ES), the drop-down
list that appears is enormous. It turns out that what I'm seeing is
all of the languages found within OpenOffice.org's "Hyphenator"
dictionary. The list starts with "hyph_cs_CZ" and continues on down to
"hyph_uk_UA". It's quite distracting to see it. I'd like to see
exactly four dictionaries in the list.

This is what I get when I run Thunderbird in a terminal and try to
  change dictionaries in the composer:

  ~$ mozilla-thunderbird
  DOUBLE-CLICK: 400 --> -1 THRESHOLD: 8 --> -1 Hash Manager Error : 4
Error - could not open affix description file

/usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/components/myspell/hyph_fr_FR.aff
  Failure loading aff file
/usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/components/myspell/hyph_fr_FR.aff

Mind you, I get no errors or any other output in the terminal when I
select one of the "normal" dictionaries, or when I do anything else.

I'm having exactly the same issue on both my home and work computer,
both running Feisty, although otherwise quite different desktops. The
only halfway reasonable suspicion that I have as to a cause involves
my setting Options in OOo Word Processor. In Tools > Options >
Language Settings > Writing Aids I have selected "Check in all
languages" on both computers, and above that the "Hyphenator"
dictionary is selected. I've tried deselecting and reselecting these
  options, with no success

If this is the cause, it would seem to be a reportable bug. One
application's use of Myspell or Hyphenator shouldn't affect another's,
as far as I can tell. Thank you very much for your attention to this.

Thunderbird conveniently displays a notification icon when new mail

you check it through a web client (not thunderbird) in result of which
there is no more unread mail. However, the notification icon is still

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 298265] [NEW] message window is not focussed after opening (in metacity)

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

When I open a new message from Thunderbird, with my window manager set
to metacity (Appearance-->Visual Effects-->None), I have an annoying
problem.

New message windows do not get 'focussed' when they are opened. Their
title bar is grey, and the main Thunderbird window retains the focus.
This means that when I press alt-F4 or ctrl-W, my main Thunderbird
window is closed, instead of my message window. Very annoying, because
it means that I lose my place in the message list, etc etc, and I can
only get the main window back again my typing ctrl-1.

This happens only in one particlar case, which is when I *already* have
a message window open, and the message window is being re-used for the
new message. It doesn't happen if I have no message window already on.

Serious and easily-fixed usability bug IMHO, probably something in the
way that Thunderbird is interacting with the window manager, I would
guess.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487069] [NEW] "Update" tab confusingly blank when package manager is set to deal with updating

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have found that if you go into the Thunderbird Preferences, then go to
the "Advanced" section, and then the "Update" tab, you will find that
the page is blank, now even though this is because there are no update
settings in Thunderbird due to the fact that it's the built-in package
manager which will be handling the updates, and not Thunderbird, having
this section blank is rather confusing for many users, so I think that
it would be better if it would give an explanation for why there are no
settings there, for example it could say: "Your built-in package manager
is set to handle these settings.", or something of the sort.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 165327] [NEW] Thunderbird Ignoring Default Browser to Use Firefox

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using the regular, i386 version of Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. I have used the
KDE control panel to set Opera as the default browser. In spite of this
and everything else I've tried, it opens all links with Firefox. Either
kcontrol is not talking to Thunderbird, or Thunderbird isn't listening
to kcontrol.

First, I tried setting the default browser in kcontrol to "opera", then
"/usr/bin/opera", then "opera -backgroundpage", and then finally
"/usr/bin/opera -backgroundpage". Then I googled around, and saw that
somebody suggested adding to the Thunderbird advanced options
(about:config) the lines "network.protocol-handler.app.http" and
"network.protocol-handler.app.https", and to set both to use "opera" as
the value. I actually went and tried all the same things I tried
plugging in to kcontrol here. Needless to say, nothing worked.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bug is easiest to observe if you have chosen your spam filter to
move spam to another IMAP folder.

To reproduce:
- Start TB, and hope you have spam. :-)
- Watch an e-mail get moved to Spam.
- Right-click on the IMAP folder "Spam" and choose "Mark folder as read".
- Repeat last step, because it doesn't work the first time.

I found a 3 years old report about this in the Mozilla bug tracker,
which is hardly encouraging, yet this is an annoying little bug that I
hope someone can patch.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When Thunderbird is doing junk mail detection, it seems to download the
contents of mail messages to establish whether or not they are junk. To
the extent that the inbox is configured for use offline, it would be
useful for Thunderbird then to remember that it has downloaded the
message already, and not have to fetch it again later when going
offline. I'm not sure if the junk mail download includes the download of
attachments. If not, then obviously those messages with attachments will
still need a separate download when going offline. I'm willing to pay a
$50 paypal bounty for this feature.

check it through a web client (not thunderbird) in result of which there

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 106711] [NEW] OOo Hyphenator dictionaries appearing in Thunderbird Spell-check

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

While composing an email in Thunderbird, when I go to switch
dictionaries from, say, English (US) to Spanish (ES), the drop-down list
that appears is enormous. It turns out that what I'm seeing is all of
the languages found within OpenOffice.org's "Hyphenator" dictionary. The
list starts with "hyph_cs_CZ" and continues on down to "hyph_uk_UA".
It's quite distracting to see it. I'd like to see exactly four
dictionaries in the list.

This is what I get when I run Thunderbird in a terminal and try to
change dictionaries in the composer:

~$ mozilla-thunderbird
DOUBLE-CLICK: 400 --> -1 THRESHOLD: 8 --> -1 Hash Manager Error : 4
Error - could not open affix description file
/usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/components/myspell/hyph_cs_CZ.aff

/usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/components/myspell/hyph_fr_FR.aff
Failure loading aff file
/usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/components/myspell/hyph_fr_FR.aff

Mind you, I get no errors or any other output in the terminal when I
select one of the "normal" dictionaries, or when I do anything else.

I'm having exactly the same issue on both my home and work computer,
both running Feisty, although otherwise quite different desktops. The
only halfway reasonable suspicion that I have as to a cause involves my
setting Options in OOo Word Processor. In Tools > Options > Language
Settings > Writing Aids I have selected "Check in all languages" on both
computers, and above that the "Hyphenator" dictionary is selected. I've
tried deselecting and reselecting these options, with no success

If this is the cause, it would seem to be a reportable bug. One
application's use of Myspell or Hyphenator shouldn't affect another's,
as far as I can tell. Thank you very much for your attention to this.

Interesting. That sounds similar to bug 1786872.

Are you sure your bug title is correct?

Have you really logged in with your username and password *before* the
bug occurs? Or do you just mean the machine has booted when you say

Hi, Daniel van Vugt asked me to fill a new bug for the problem I have
after he replied me in this old problem with GDM.
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1705369

First, I will show the basic configuration of my desktop computer:
  -Motherboard: ROG STRIX X370-F GAMING.
  -CPU: Ryzen 7 1700.
-GPU: GTX 1050 2GB from MSI.
-Sound: Xonar DSX with ALC1220 of the motherboard deactivated.

Well, the problem I have ocurrs randomly and I saw it in Ubuntu 17.10
and 18.04. In the prior version I get the typical “stopping user
manager for uid” message, but in the most recent version I only see
some information about storage I always see in the system boot,
nothing apparently bad. I always use the official NVIDIA blob driver
from the Proprietary GPU Drivers PPA, but the I also saw the bug in
  drivers provided by Ubuntu’s repositories.

I used Linux Mint 19 for one month and I didn’t see the bug, so I
think that origin is from Ubuntu’s stack. I suspect of two components
  and three possibilities:

  -GDM.
  -NVIDIA Prime.
  -Both combinanted.

I’m trying a workaround setting nomodeset in the file
  “/etc/default/grub”. The line:

  -
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
  -

  Is now:

  -
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"
  -

After modify the file I executed the “sudo update-grub” command.

Until now I didn’t see the bug again, but it’s too early to make sure.
If I don’t see the bug again in two months I will declare the bug
solved for me, but this is not the "out of the box" behavior you
expect from a system like Ubuntu.

Sorry if my English is hard to understand.

Program attached. Compile with gcc test.c -l jansson.

Since this can lead to crashes of consumers of the library, I've
ticked the security checkbox. In my case, it crashes Suricata, a
network IPS. This would lead to denial of service.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 58454] [NEW] bad accel in .it localization

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

the 'Go' menu is translated as 'Vai', with an Alt+A accel (V_ai).

This prevents 'Select All' from working which is really annoying.

Not sure what to suggest... using 'Va_i' is the quickest workaround (V
is already taken). The reality is that it should not use the Alt+A
shortcut for select all, since Alt+letter is for menus accels, but I
have the feeling that such a change would need quite a bit of convin
cing :)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 243578] [NEW] Thunderbird address book won't use socks to access ldap server

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

I have a number of Ubuntu systems on a private lan, behind a socks
firewall.

When I use thunderbird I set the network connections to use socks, and
give it the correct name and port number. Thunderbird itself works fine,
I can send and receive email without problems. However when I configure
the ldap server to use with thethunderbird address book, thunderbird
will not resolve any ldap names to email addresses. I have double
checked and I'm sure that the ldap settings are correct.

I sniffed the network during an exchange and I can see that normal
thunderbird traffic being sent via socks. However I can see that
thunderbird is trying to send the ldap traffic directly to the ldap
server, not via socks. I include a wireshark screenshot showing what is
happening.

This is Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, and Ubuntu 8.04

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1780475] Re: Fatal IO error 11 on totem startup when using the Nvidia binary driver

2018-08-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've tracked down the offending source code:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/blob/master/gdk/x11/gdkmain-x11.c#L242

and unfortunately it will just exit without leaving a crash or dump file
:(

Just an idea: Please try this to see if it stops the problem from
happening:

  sudo apt remove mesa-va-drivers gstreamer1.0-vaapi

If that doesn't fix it then the next step I think is to ask for help
from the Totem developers. So please open a new "issue" here:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 54167] [NEW] purging configuration files does not do its job

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

I just installed the package on a kubuntu 6.06 machine, with sudo
aptitude install mozilla-thunderbird.

Executed the application ONCE, and then purged it with sudo aptitude
purge mozilla-thunderbird.

The result:

Purging configuration files for mozilla-thunderbird ...
rmdir: /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/chrome/: No such file or directory
rmdir: /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/chrome/: No such file or directory
dpkg - warning: while removing mozilla-thunderbird, directory
`/etc/mozilla-thunderbird` not empty so not removed.

So the said directory is left there, with the file auto-config.js in it.

Hence. purge does not properly purge the package.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 23302] [NEW] Message is partially lost if disk is full

2018-08-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was receiving new mail when thunderbird told me there wasn't enough disk space
(hmm, actually I'm not even sure if it was thunderbird, I guess it was). The
result is that a mail I received (from sender X), fetched with POP3, was only
partially received, *and* deleted from the server. Now that I made disk space
and restarted thunderbird, another message (from sender Y) is concatenated after
the partially received one. The message is shown as sent by sender X in the
mailbox-list, but the body looks like this:

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1725384 ***

Sorry, I forgot the Ubuntu dock is a separate component.

Now I look at the Ubuntu dock bugs this sounds like bug 1730281, which
is presently marked as a duplicate of bug 1725384. So this bug should
probably be merged with those.

Bug description:
Given I am logged in on the Ubuntu default desktop (running GNOME Shell
3.28.1)
when I press the "Show Applications" button at the lower end of the task bar
  then only the tooltip appears
and when I press the "Show Applications" button again
then the applications (of the "Frequent" category) are shown and immediately
hidden again.

  Extended scenario:

When the above described has been done a few times
then pressing the "Show Applications" button _only once_ makes the
applications show _and_ hide immediately (in a single action)
and I have to use the mouse to make the applications display.

  Current Behavior

It looks like touch screen events for that area are somewhat
"recorded" and then executed all at once.

  Expected Behavior
  -

The applications should be shown immediately upon a single touch press
on the "Show Applications" button, and hidden again the same way. In
other words, the behavior should be consistent with pressing the
button using the mouse (or touch pad).

  Additional Information
  --

I could reproduce this issue on both a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 Series
2-in-1 (convertible with touch screen) and a Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th
  Generation (2018).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1786872] [NEW] [regression] Cosmic login screen never appears on about 50% of boots

2018-08-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

In the past week or two, cosmic has failed to finish booting in about
half of all cases (on multiple machines). The problem is that the
graphical login screen never appears. Instead the machine stays on a

WORKAROUND:
I can force the system to finish booting and make the login screen appear just
by switching VTs and back:
  Ctrl+Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+F1

In the last months, Xorg started crashing randomly after I resume from sleep.
I've installed Xubuntu 18.04 from scratch (keeping only the /home partition)
hoping that the problem would be gone. But it isn't.

It seems to be related to the external monitor - ie when there is an

resume there's only the laptop. But it doesn't always happen, so I

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1716654] Re: [System Product Name, Realtek ALC1220, Pink Mic, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2018-08-13 Thread Evan DeBiasse
I am affected by this bug. If I'm not mistaken all the individuals
affected by this bug are using AMD Ryzen? I see that the codec appears
to also be the AC1220. I'm using Asus x470-f gaming motherboard. I've
tried ALL the fixes on arch wiki (this include the tsched=0 fix in the
pulse audio config file) There is always someone in these threads that
seems to think that should work and disregards the problem as it does
seem to work for others with this issue. I'm wondering if it isn't a
ryzen issue? I'm on a Ryzen 7 1700. I'm hoping to find a fix soon
because this is quite annoying as I use voice chat regularly for a
multitude of reasons.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767711] Re: Nvidia+XFCE: Totem window is see-through during playback, colours washed out

2018-08-13 Thread Moses Moore
What does "status: invalid" mean?

In XFCE > Settings > Additional Drivers > Additional Drivers, it's
currently set to "NVIDIA Corporation GF106M [GeForce GTX 460M] "[x] Using
NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-390 (proprietary, tested)".
Other options are "[ ] Using NVIDIA bindary driver - version 340.106
from nvidia-340 (proprietary)" and "[ ] Using X.Org server - Nouveau
display driver from xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (open source)"

Tried to install nvidia-340, but it cocked up and left the system
in a bad state. I couldn't even revert to nvidia-driver-390 without
doing a lot of "apt --fix-broken install ... dpkg-divert --remove" loops.

Installed the nouveau driver, doesn't send output to the primary display,
had to plug in a second display. (???) used "xfwm4-tweaks-settings"
to make sure Compositing is turned on. Started "totem vapourwave.mp4"
and... no transparency. does_not_reproduce

NVIDIA website says the latest "long lived" (stable?) version is 390.77
(2018-07-16). https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/136120/en-us .
It won't let me install it because of the kernel modules already
installed, which I can't remove with modprobe nor rmmod because "resource
is in use" despite no dependencies and I already stopped X.Org. I'll keep
trying.

Looking like it's a bad interaction between Totem and the NVIDIA
proprietary driver (nvidia-driver-390). Weird that the other video
players, even the gstreamer-based ones, don't suffer the same problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767711] Re: Nvidia+XFCE: Totem window is see-through during playback, colours washed out

2018-08-13 Thread Theo Linkspfeifer
Looks like the next step would be to test with an older NVIDIA driver
version from the Ubuntu repository, and maybe with the slightly newer
version 390.77 from the NVIDIA website also.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 722141] Re: Can't have just a popup window open

2018-08-13 Thread fa2k
Dear Paul,

Thanks for getting in touch, and that's fair.

This pattern of opening a popup player isn't used any more by any of the
sites I can think of. So I'm not sure if it's fixed or not, but from my
point of view it's fine to close this bug.

Best wishes,
Marius (fa2k)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1767711] Re: Nvidia+XFCE: Totem window is see-through during playback, colours washed out

2018-08-13 Thread Moses Moore
I didn't try 'marco' because I didn't know what that is. Installing it
now.

totem used with 'marco' and 'compton' are not washed out, but strangely
transparent. See attached image for 'marco' -- compton is the same just
no messages on stderr from compton.

If those affected think this is the same bug, you could mark this bug as
a duplicate of #1780664. Bug #1780664 has a fix committed now, which
should be available in xenial-updates soon.
