Title:
  On-screen text disappears after suspend

Status in linux-lts-xenial package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After resuming from a suspend, almost all text on screen is not
visible. This includes menu items, text in all three boxes (list of
folders, list of e-mails, e-mail body) in Thunderbird (with the
curious exception of "ffl" in the File menu), top menu in Chromium
(but not the menu obtained by pressing the hamburger button), and the
menus produced by clicking items in the system tray. Also, the apport
dialog had no text except for a few capital letters.

WORKAROUND / 'FIX' (added on March 9, 2017)
Several people have mentioned upgrading to kernel 4.8 or higher solves the
issue. As per #81, you can easily install kernel 4.8 (if you're on Ubuntu
16.04, that is) by running

  sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-16.04

If you are still experiencing this issue after upgrading to kernel
4.8, please share your system details in the comments.

  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  * initctl restart unity-panel-service restarts the panel, but the text is
still missing
  * suspend and resume does not fix the issue
  * Logging out fixes the issue
  * Other affected applications:
  ** Chromium file select dialog
  ** Terminal (entire window)
  ** ttys 1-6 (Ctrl+Alt+F1, etc.)
  ** Document viewer (menus)
  ** Software Updater
  ** Rhythmbox
** The dialog that appears when you take a screenshot with Ctrl+Alt+PrtSc
  ** ubuntu-bug
  ** Nautilus
** LibreOffice Calc (spreadsheet text contents)
  ** Firefox
  * Unity dash is not affected.
  * Skype is not affected.
  * Mousing over a button in a dialog correctly shows the text.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1682455] Re: thunderbird not available in GNOME Software

2019-02-04 Thread hbchoong
Can I please try to understand what the next steps are, if this is being
attended to or just simply going to be ignored due to the lack of
resources or coordination at Canonical et al?

(I'm looking to understand the processes a little better...)

Thanks.

  Original Report
  ---
I am filing this against Thunderbird, even though it also concerns another
package (GNOME Software).

Essentially, using a freshly installed Ubuntu GNOME 17.04, Thunderbird
is not available in GNOME Software (the default software app for this
flavour). You cannot find it via search or the packages browser.

The only way to install it is via apt-get and even then it doesn't
show in Software (see attached picture).

When going to a directory with images those images that were there
before I updated to 18.04 still display thumbnails.

Any new images placed in to the directory don't display thumbnails.

Any images, new or old, that are edited and saved back don't display
  thumbnails.

Edit any existing image which does have a thumbnail and the thumbnail
  will disappear.

The same happens on the Desktop which I believe also uses Nautilus to
  render.

  I'll attach a screenshot

Title:
Nautilus lists files in a directory without proper permissions

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have a directory inside '/tmp' which is owned by root:root (user root and
group root).
Directory's permissions are 0700 (means that only the user, root, has full
permissions).

The directory '/tmp' has permissions 'drwxrwxrwt' and is owned by
  root:root.

I created a directory '/tmp/OO' with permissions 'drwx--' which is owned
by root:root.
Inside the directory '/tmp/OO' there are two files:
  $ sudo ls -la /tmp/OO
  total 16
  drwx-- 2 root root 80 Oct 6 13:39 .
  drwxrwxrwt 17 root root 400 Oct 6 13:54 ..
  -rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 8503 Oct 6 13:16 FILE.ods
  -rwxrw-r-- 1 root root 64 Oct 6 13:20 run.sh

I open Nautilus in '/tmp' and click on the arrow (of Tree View) for
'/tmp/OO' and successfully manages to see the file 'run.sh' inside
(but cannot see the file 'FILE.ods').

I expected that I won't be able to see *any* file, since that the
eXecute permission of the directory '/tmp/OO' is absent for Other.

  Ubuntu release 16.04.
  Nautilus package version 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6.

Bug description:
Have a relatively fresh installation of Ubuntu 18.10. Unfortunately, I just
had to realize that dragging windows to the left or right edge unfortunately
does not have the desired effect in a number of cases that they fill half the
screen. This applies to the following apps, among others:
  - LibreOffice
  - Nautilus
  - Gnome Calendar
  - Gnome Tasks
  - Settings
Seems to be the same in a wayland and X Session. Especially the problem with
LibreOffice makes working almost impossible for me.

Should not necessarily be part of a bug report, but I'm thinking about
switching back to Unity or another desktop environment, as the Gnome

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814330] Re: My adblocker for the Firefox browser was removed in the last update

2019-02-04 Thread Lyn Griffith
Thank you for your response.
Actually, I know very little about how this operating system works.  It's a
long story.
The person who set up my computer has now moved out of town and I live in a
remote area where there is no one local who can teach me how to move around
this operating system.
Where do I open about:addons ?

I don't necessarily need to use the one that no longer appears to be operating
except to provide you information.  If you can recommend an adblocker that I
should use with Firefox and tell me how to install it, I can go forward.
Not having any adblocker is the problem.

Do you know what adblocker extension you were using?
Can you open about:addons and check whether it's listed there? Does it say
anything about the extension being disabled for some reason?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814443] Re: random freeze

2019-02-04 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2019-02-04 Thread Eberhard Beilharz
Crashing here as well, and I don't have the Android emulator running.
It's happening seemingly randomly when switching between workspaces.

I tried to follow the steps from #2, but steps 1 and 2 didn't work, and
I'm not clear what workaround from bug 994921 is meant exactly.

syslog also shows a crash in libmutter-2.so.0.0.0.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814388] Re: After switching users, I can see the passwords in /dev/tty1

2019-02-04 Thread Seth Arnold
** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
After switching users, I can see the passwords in /dev/tty1

Status in gnome-screensaver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Basically I installed ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on an old machine (on a blank
SSD), and when I just when had finished the configuration installing
just a few apps, I thought I had seen the admin's user password during
Power Off (in the boot text screen that blinks) - as it's an old
computer I could see this text blinking.

I didn't even use this machine.

After some tests, I found out that after performing these steps:
   - turning the machine on, logging into admin user
   - logging off the admin user
   - logging in a non admin user
   - logging off the non admin user
   - logging in back to the admin user

By running `sudo cat /dev/tty1` I could see everything which was typed
in the login screen. And that is the content that appears during the
  power off text screen.

For more info, please see https://askubuntu.com/questions/1114802

The steps I can remember while setting up this machine were:
   - changing region to Portuguese (brazil) and configuring keyboard
   - installing Gweled, Pitivi, VLC, Spotify and SuperTuxKart through 'Ubuntu
Software'
   - installing Google Chrome and Skype by downloading their deb packages from
the official websites
   - uninstalled Thunderbird
   - updated everything

As you can see in the AskUbuntu question, I tried to simulate this by
repeating these steps in a virtual machine, but was not able to
reproduce it. One difference is that this is a HP Pavilion old laptop
with all sorts of things on it, so many drivers may be needed which
will not be present in the VM. I booted with 4.15.0-29-generic and it
behaved the same. However, during the session booting with the
4.15.0.29 recovery mode, I could not detect that sympton!

I'll keep this machine for a few days, but then I'll reinstall
everything, if it persists, I'll update here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814607] [NEW] ubuntu 18.04.2 daily is janky with chromium on fishgl.com?

2019-02-04 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

I've been testing as follows:
- install chromium (or chrome, or chrome beta)
- open http://fishgl.com
- crank up number of fish to 325 (or as high as it'll go and sustain 60 fps)
- after fish are happily swimming, watch them swim for 60 seconds, and count
number of times the screen freezes

This was fine (i.e. zero hangs) on 18.04.1 +
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2400400
but not fine on 18.04.2 (i.e. always hangs briefly within 60 seconds)

The last four times I ran this, I got 4, 2, 8, 3 hangs in 60 seconds. Each hang
usually lasted
for less than a second. Some lasted for a second and a half (maybe that was two
hangs
back to back). Running xclock -update 1 seems to show that the hang extends to
other apps,
i.e. when the fish hang, xclock also seems to hang. Running firefox in
parallel, or a second
chromium window, seems to avoid the hang.

tail -f /var/log/syslog didn't show any new output during hangs.
(There are a lot of gnome-shell stack dumps in /var/log/syslog, fwiw.)

Title:
ubuntu 18.04.2 daily is janky with chromium on fishgl.com?

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I've been testing as follows:
  - install chromium (or chrome, or chrome beta)
  - open http://fishgl.com
  - crank up number of fish to 325 (or as high as it'll go and sustain 60 fps)
  - after fish are happily swimming, watch them swim for 60 seconds, and count
number of times the screen freezes

This was fine (i.e. zero hangs) on 18.04.1 +
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2400400
but not fine on 18.04.2 (i.e. always hangs briefly within 60 seconds)

The last four times I ran this, I got 4, 2, 8, 3 hangs in 60 seconds. Each
hang usually lasted
for less than a second. Some lasted for a second and a half (maybe that was
two hangs
back to back). Running xclock -update 1 seems to show that the hang extends
to other apps,
i.e. when the fish hang, xclock also seems to hang. Running firefox in
parallel, or a second
chromium window, seems to avoid the hang.

tail -f /var/log/syslog didn't show any new output during hangs.
(There are a lot of gnome-shell stack dumps in /var/log/syslog, fwiw.)

I'll try to test on a non-Hades system.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814606] [NEW] ubuntu 18.04.2 daily is janky with chromium on fishgl.com?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1789029] Re: Impress embedded video takes full screen

2019-02-04 Thread Sam Colegrove
I have found a solution to this problem that works for me at:
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/157815/impress-6-in-ubuntu-1804
-video-playback-only-as-full-screen/

To me it looks like it is related to one of the gstreamer1.0-plugins-*
not being included in the packages for LibreOffice 6.1.3.2. I have not
tried to locate the missing packages and I hope someone in this site can
locate the packages.

then revert to the resized format
  3. Start presentation. When the slide with embedded is selected, the video
takes full screen
  4. Start presentation with a presentation-screen
4.1. Video takes full screen on the presentation-screen
4.2. Video takes full screen on the laptop-screen => notes, preview and
buttons no longer available
4.3. Presentation hangs (most of the time)

Bug description:
I have heard reports that the rhythmbox zeitgeist plugin is broken.

It may need to be ported to Python3 since other parts of Rhythmbox
(like the Alternative Toolbar) are already using Python3.

If it does use Python2, then it probably needs to depend on
  libpeas-1.0-python2loader

If the Zeitgeist plugin is not fixed, it will eventually need to be
removed from Ubuntu. (We can add it back if it's working again as long
  as Zeitgeist is still around.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

2019-02-04 Thread dwmw2
Not sure what happened there. It was looking up *some* names in the
$COMPANY.com domain on the VPN, but others not, consistently. I couldn't
see a pattern.

I have manually set ipv4.dns-search="~." and ipv4.dns-priority=-1 and
now it does seem to be behaving. However, this shouldn't be necessary.
This VPN has non-split routing and shouldn't it have non-split DNS too,
by default? I shouldn't have to change the configuration, just to get
back to the secure behaviour which used to work.

Bug description:
  * Impact

When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server
outside the VPN when they should not

  * Test case

Configure the system to send all the traffic to a VPN, do a name
resolution, the request should not go to the public DNS server (to be
checked by capturing the traffic by example with wireshark)

  * Regression potential

The code change the handling of DNS servers when using a VPN, we
should check that name resolution still work whne using a VPN in
  different configurations

  -

In 16.04 the NetworkManager package used to carry this patch:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/patches/Filter-DNS-servers-to-add-to-dnsmasq-based-on-availa.patch

It fixed the DNS setup so that when I'm on the VPN, I am not sending
unencrypted DNS queries to the (potentially hostile) local
  nameservers.

This patch disappeared in an update. I think it was present in
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 but was dropped some time later.

This security bug exists upstream too:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746422
It's not a *regression* there though, as they didn't fix it yet
(unfortunately!)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

2019-02-04 Thread dwmw2
Hm, that didn't last long. Now it isn't looking up *anything* in the VPN
domains. It's all going to the local VPN server. I don't know what
changed.

Title:
  Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

Status in NetworkManager:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  * Impact

When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server
outside the VPN when they should not

  * Test case

Configure the system to send all the traffic to a VPN, do a name
resolution, the request should not go to the public DNS server (to be
checked by capturing the traffic by example with wireshark)

  * Regression potential

The code change the handling of DNS servers when using a VPN, we
should check that name resolution still work whne using a VPN in
  different configurations

  -

In 16.04 the NetworkManager package used to carry this patch:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/patches/Filter-DNS-servers-to-add-to-dnsmasq-based-on-availa.patch

It fixed the DNS setup so that when I'm on the VPN, I am not sending
unencrypted DNS queries to the (potentially hostile) local
  nameservers.

This patch disappeared in an update. I think it was present in
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 but was dropped some time later.

This security bug exists upstream too:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746422
It's not a *regression* there though, as they didn't fix it yet
(unfortunately!)

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 156201] Re: gedit handles opening big files badly

2019-02-04 Thread Vincent Gerris
Nano is not a gui desktop editor. Besides that vim is superior to nano in
my opinion. A viable alternative would be an open source editor like Atom,
but it can be useful to have a lightweight simple editor that doesn't blow
up with a big file and is installed by default.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1799913] Re: Unhandled lockdown error (-2) - iphone ios 12

2019-02-04 Thread Devon Stuper
When I plug in my iPhone I automatically get a pop up on my iPhone
asking if I wish to trust my computer. I accept it and put in my pass
code. In Nautilus I get two new sections "Documents on iPhone" and
"iPhone". The section "iPhone" opens up just fine and I am able to look
at my pictures. But when I click on "Documents on iPhone" I get the
lockdown error.

In my terminal when I type in "idevicepair pair" I get "ERROR: Device
*long string of numbers and letters* returned unhandled error code -5"

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

I think it's probably a duplicate of these bugs which were closed unresolved:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1660619 (closed as it was
on an older version of Ubuntu)
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1671975 (closed because
it was a duplicate of the first bug)

It happens far more frequently if I have desktop effects turned on,
and far less frequently when using a live USB key (at always happens
eventually though. Usually once every few hours.)

Please advise how I can help triage / test. My system is a new install
now, so I'm perfectly willing to modify / reinstall to help testing
(I've reinstalled 5 times to test things, but never managed to find a
  solution)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814262] Re: Wired interface gets impossibly high metric 20100

2019-02-04 Thread Rachel Greenham
As it recurred again today and showed no signs of correcting itself like
it did on Friday, I went ahead and reported it upstream, here:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/issues/116

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814262

Title:
Wired interface gets impossibly high metric 20100

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Actually this might be a heisenbug. I've had an issue with this all
morning since network-manager got an update this morning, but just now
*while this bug was being submitted* it decided to correct itself.

What I was getting was, on a machine (Dell XPS 13 9370) with WiFi and
a (Caldigit) Thunderbolt 3 dock with an ethernet port: After the
network-manager update I noticed everything was slower than I was used
to, and in gnome-shell the network icon showing was the WiFi one, not
  the wired one.

Looking at the output of route, or route -n for simplicity, I would
  see this:

  rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n
  Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG60000 wlp2s0
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG20100 00
enp63s0
  169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 wlp2s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 10000
enp63s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 60000 wlp2s0

So the metric on the default route on enp63s0 had 20,000 mysteriously
added to it, which would obviously make it extremely low-priority. The
system was choosing the wifi connection instead, which isn't that
great in my office, hence observable slowness.

Now, this morning, this seemed to be the sticky situation. It didn't
show any sign of changing, whatever I did, after restarts of network-
manager, undock/redock, reboots, etc. I could change it manually with
ifmetric (and it would work), but that was about it.

I would have reported the bug then, but I had to go out. When I got
back I plugged in and initially saw the same thing again (that's where
the above snippet was pasted from). But *while* the ubuntu-bug
network-manager command was running, I noticed the gnome-shell network
icon switch to wired, checked again, and saw:

  rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n
  Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG10000
enp63s0
  0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG20600 00 wlp2s0
  169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 wlp2s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 10000
enp63s0
  192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 60000 wlp2s0

So now the wifi connection has 20,000 added to it, which may still be
wrong? But I wouldn't otherwise have noticed it because the system is
  again *behaving* as expected.

This all seemed to happen after the network-manager upgrade (from
1.12.6-0ubuntu4 to 1.15.2-0ubuntu1) this morning. I can't say if these
metric+20,000 values were present before then, because I didn't have
any cause to go looking at it, it always just worked. Could it be some
issue with how the newer network-manager, or one of its associated
packages, is figuring out the metrics on new connections? Like it's
running some new heuristic to determine which one should really be the
preferred? If it's like it was just now, when it fixed itself after a
minute or so, that's not really a problem, but if it's like it was
this morning when it just seemed to be stuck with the ethernet
  connection at 20100, it is.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814261] Re: gpm prevents loging to the console: spurious “Enter” events seems inserted

I have the exact same problem on Ubuntu 16.04

I will try to turn off GPM and see how my console functions without it.

What a surprise though! Not being able to log in the simplest console.
Not something I've seen in ages...

Use nemo-desktop to draw desktop icons under Unity (Disco)

Status in ubuntu-settings package in Ubuntu:

Status in unity package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
As nautilus > 3.30 is now uploaded in Ubuntu 19.10, it doesn't have
the desktop any more. The alternate options are to use caja-desktop or
nemo-desktop keeping nautilus default file manger for now. Since nemo-
desktop does not require any extensive patching it is easy to use
  under unity.

Nemo-desktop will only draw the icons, not the background. In absence of
nautilus unity-settings-daemon draws the background, so nothing to do in
u-s-d.

There are few small patches (nemo action files) required from nemo.
@fossfreedom (ubuntu-budgie-dev) suggested that it's better that we ship
these action files ourselves as recommended by upstream. Budgie is doing the
same.

https://github.com/UbuntuBudgie/budgie-desktop-environment/tree/master/nemo-actions

Since nautilus still be default file-manager we disable auto-mount with nemo
and various other cinnamon/nemo option in ubuntu-settings.gsettings-override

Bug description:
Similar to whatPaavo Leinonen reported in
031601ce2a49$20b2efe0$6218cfa0$@leinonen.fi on the NUT mailing list.
See also my mail in reply.

Ubuntu runs modemmanager as a native upstart service. nut-server ends
up running in parallel (on my system, probably a matter of timing).
When modemmanager scans the serial ports for modems, upsd is unable to
open the port configured for an UPS. (It might be possible to exclude
some ports from the scan, I didn't check because I have no modem it
could configure, I just kicked the package.

Please convert nut-server to a native upstart service to be able to
have it wait for modemmanager. (I hope upstart is clever enough to
have a service wait for an optional package and let it proceed if not
  installed.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

  Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

Status in NetworkManager:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  * Impact

When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server
outside the VPN when they should not

  * Test case

Configure the system to send all the traffic to a VPN, do a name
resolution, the request should not go to the public DNS server (to be
checked by capturing the traffic by example with wireshark)

  * Regression potential

The code change the handling of DNS servers when using a VPN, we
should check that name resolution still work whne using a VPN in
  different configurations

  -

In 16.04 the NetworkManager package used to carry this patch:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/patches/Filter-DNS-servers-to-add-to-dnsmasq-based-on-availa.patch

It fixed the DNS setup so that when I'm on the VPN, I am not sending
unencrypted DNS queries to the (potentially hostile) local
  nameservers.

This patch disappeared in an update. I think it was present in
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 but was dropped some time later.

This security bug exists upstream too:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746422
It's not a *regression* there though, as they didn't fix it yet
(unfortunately!)

Status in ubuntu-settings package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This is an attempt to resolve "* Shared GSettings keys" issue listed
  under https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity/NotDefaultIssues.

Ubuntu so far is providing session related overrides for both ubuntu &
unity sessions in a single package, i.e. ubuntu-settings. But now that
Unity is not the default desktop it doesn't make any sense to carry
  unity related overrides in ubuntu-settings.

For this purpose I have created a new project: unity-settings
  (https://code.launchpad.net/~khurshid-alam/unity-settings/trunk) and
the binary would be unity-settings in universe.

To make this happen in under 18.04 cycle, the work-flow should be:

  1) Have unity-settings in the universe
  2) Have ubuntu-unity-desktop in the universe
  3) Let ubuntu-unity-desktop depends on unity-settings
  4) Drop unity related settings in ubuntu-settings (merge request in-progress)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1635773] Re: fonts in the address bar of chrome/chromium are too small

2019-02-04 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Firefox since that time.

Ubuntu 16.10 (yakkety) reached end-of-life on July 20, 2017.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported using
currently supported versions of Firefox and Ubuntu? Please let us know
if you do and in which version of Ubuntu otherwise this report can be
left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

A couple of weeks ago, I was able to install this on 14.04. However,
recently I installed the Ubuntu Daily build from scratch, and since

Title:
"Aw Snap!" crash on Google Chrome Webstore

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Chromium is crashing when I visit https://www.google.com/chrome/webstore/
It seems it has been fixed in the stable version of chrome
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=432488

The current version 38.0.2125.111 in 14.04 LTS repositories has this
problem.
Since all the extensions and apps become unusable due to this, I was
wondering if an updated version could be added to the 14.04 LTS repositories.

Title:
Nautilus(and Nemo too) cannot Mount if mount option is noauto/user and
the mount point has non-western character

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
On Ubuntu 14.04(64bit), I configured /etc/fstab something like this.

server:/Video /media/Video-Nfsnfs
auto 0 0
server:/강좌 /media/강좌-Nfs nfs auto 0 0

  It works fine.

I changed and added options, noauto, user.

server:/Video /media/Video-Nfsnfs
noauto,user 0 0
server:/강좌 /media/강좌-Nfs nfs
noauto,user 0 0

After that, I can mount '/media/Video-Nfs' by clicking the icon on the
Nautilus's Network panel. It works.
However, when I click '강좌-Nfs' icon on the Nautilus, I got this message.

 mount: can't find /media/\352\260\225\354\242\214-Nfs in /etc/fstab
  or /etc/mtab

I tried to mount that directory with mount command, like this.

$ mount /media/강좌-Nfs/

It works. also umount /media/강좌-Nfs/ works.

I think Nautilus(and Nemo) cannot handle non-western characters when it is
related with mount options.
I'm not sure this is a bug or there might be a solution or a workaround.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1799913] Re: Unhandled lockdown error (-2) - iphone ios 12

2019-02-04 Thread Will Cooke
I have tested this on my Disco development machine, and here's what I
found.

Using an iPhone SE running IOS 12.1.2.

Connected the phone using a real cable (using my third party cable only allowed
me to charge).
Without doing anything further I open Nautilus and browsed to the phone, and
indeed I did see the error described... "unhandled lock down".

However, on the phone itself I was being asked if I wanted to "Trust this
computer". I said "Trust this computer" and was then asked to enter my PIN.
Once I had done this I was able to browse the photos as expected.

Could people reporting this problem please check that the iDevice has
been told to trust the computer and comment here?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814519] Re: USB port runs not stable, kayboard not stable, sound dosent work

2019-02-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 556442] Re: Nautilus doesn't automatically remount a network share when a clicking a symlink pointing to the share via .gvfs

2019-02-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
It's rather a job for gvfs according to upstream,
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/issues/160

** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu) => gvfs (Ubuntu)

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu.

Title:
Nautilus doesn't automatically remount a network share when a clicking
a symlink pointing to the share via .gvfs

Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

  Karmic on x86_64.

  Steps to reproduce:
   1) Mount a samba share using Connect to Server... in the Places menu.
   2) Tell the system to remember the credentials for the share.
   3) Make a symlink from the home directory to a directory on the samba share
so that the symlink points to ~/.gvfs/sharename on host/directory
   4) Shut down the computer but not the samba server.
   5) Reboot.
   6) Double-click the symlink in Nautilus.

  Expected results:
Expected Nautilus to use the share name and host baked into the ~/.gvfs path
and the credentials saved to the keyring to remount the share and then open the
directory pointed to by the symlink.

  Actual results:
The symlink is treated as broken.

  Additional information:
This is a feature parity bug compared to Mac OS X. Finder on Mac OS X
remounts an AFP share automatically when the user tries to open an alias that
points to a folder on an AFP share that isn't mounted currently.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1814330] Re: My adblocker for the Firefox browser was removed in the last update

2019-02-04 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Do you know what adblocker extension you were using?
Can you open about:addons and check whether it's listed there? Does it say
anything about the extension being disabled for some reason?

Title:
Keyboard layout indicator does not indicate current layout (18.04
  Bionic beaver)

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-shell source package in Bionic:
  In Progress
Status in gnome-shell source package in Cosmic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Upstream issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/913

  [ Impact ]

Keyboard Layout indicator don't display current layout (empty selected
  drop down box)

  [ Test case ]

  1. Boot
  2. Suspend or lock the screen
  3. Log again with your user
  4. The keyboard indicator should display current layout

  [ Regression Potential ]

Really low, we properly pass a null value instead of an undefined one,
  without breaking JS.

  --

  Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. After normal boot, suspend or lock.
  2. Login again.

Result: Keyboard Layout indicator don't display current layout (empty
  selected drop down box)

  [ Workarounds ]

  - Switch with keyboard (Super+space) or mouse. BUT if you then logout
on the login screen *when you press the first character* of the
password the shown selected keyboard layout resets.

  - Restart Gnome Shell (Alt+F2 r):

  3) What you expected to happen

Start any libreoffice (verified at least with writer, calc, and impress) from:
  - Desktop menu: Office -> LibreOffice Writer/Calc/Impress
  - Filetype association: .../anyfile.odf

The libreoffice splash screen is displayed. After the dialog indicates
"100% complete", the dialog closes and the writer opens a blank
  document or the selected document.

  4) What happened instead

The application crashes immediately after the initial splash screen,
and shows the "Document Recovery" dialog: "Due to an unexpected error
LibreOffice crashed...". Trying to start the application again shows
the "Document Recovery" dialog again, with "LibreOffice will attempt
to recover the state of the files" and showing "Untitled 1" in the
list of documents to be recovered. There is no "Discard" button, and
pressing "OK" results in an endless loop with recovery dialogs. The
only way to get out is to kill the window in the titlebar.

This only happens with libreoffice-gnome + libreoffice-gtk3 or
  libreoffice-gtk + libreoffice-gtk2 installed. Removing those packages
and starting e.g. writer again shows the document recovery dialog but
now with a "Discard" button. Pressing that button discards the
"Untitled 1" document and libreoffice starts normally.

I don't think it is related to Bug #1777518 since libreoffice-java-
common is not installed. I've also disabled Java in Options ->
Advanced -> Use a Java runtime environment.

  WORKAROUND: Remove libreoffice-gnome + libreoffice-gtk3 or
  libreoffice-gtk + libreoffice-gtk2

Hang at screen unlock (gdm / 18.04)

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
For two days in a row (one would have been a one-off WTF that I don't
care to report) my system now hang after unlocking from the UI.

I can't see any obvious hanging processes that would be the obvious
  reason.

OVer day I have a few screen locks e.g. when going for lunch, but at
least 2/2 times it only appeared when the lock was active over night.
I'm not sure it if it the duration or that some job kicks in at night.

I have used apport to collect the basics, and will add some more debug
  data.

If you find a lead in there let me know, otherwise assuming I might
face this every morning please let me know what to check next time it
happens so that we can find the root cause.

I found similar bug 1285258 - but other than there I can NOT hit
cancel to get a second chance, nothing in the UI moves at all and all
I can do is drop to a non UI console with CTRL+ALT+F3 and debug from
  there.

I found that restarting gdm (systemctl restart gdm) gets me logged in,
therefore I'll also attach a journal log so that you can look for
  issues in there.
