[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2019-04-13 Thread Artemis
I am currently using Ubuntu Budgie and I can confirm this issue still
occurs with the latest 18.04.2 version. Fresh install and I can only get
shortcuts to work using the Alt button. I am using an X240 Lenovo
Thinkpad Laptop. If anyone has any possible fixes let us know.

Title:
  Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After installing 18.04, I noticed that certain keyboard shortcuts no
  longer function.

  It appears to be related to the shortcuts that gnome-settings-daemon
  control as my shortcuts that are provided by my desktop (Budgie) still
  function.

  Some examples are:

  * Media keys for volume up/down/mute
  * ctrl-alt-t for the terminal. I tried changing the shortcut to test. Same
behaviour.

  I double checked, and it looks like the needed daemon is still
  running,

  nm-applet does not appear in notification area

Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  I have to log in to a wifi service via PEAP at my university. After
  doing this, on each successive reboot my nm-applet does not appear in
  my notification area (all my other applets are still there). I can get
  the applet to appear by running "nm-applet" in a terminal. I do get
  two notifications in the terminal as nm-applet loads:

  (nm-applet:3100): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: gtk-
  main.css:69:33: Failed to import: Error opening file: No such file or
  directory

  (nm-applet:3100): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_thaw_toplevel_updates:
  assertion 'window->update_and_descendants_freeze_count > 0' failed

  I have installed Ubuntu Mate twice on my system, and the applet works fine
after logging into various networks until I set up the PEAP login. Also, even
if the applet doesn't appear I am still connected to any saved wifi network
within range.
  I am running Ubuntu Mate 16.04, with Mate 1.12.1 on a Dell Latitude e6410.
  Thank you.

Title:
  Dock does not change position nor icon size

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  I cannot change the position of the dock.

  How to reproduce (on my system):

  Either:
  (a) open the settings -> Dock and select a different value for the dock, e.g.
"Bottom", or
  (b) enter "gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock
dock-position BOTTOM" in the command line

  Expected result: In both cases, the dock should move to the bottom of
  the screen.

  Actual result: The dock remains at the same position.

  Additional observations:
  1. I also cannot change the icon size (only tried via GUI, not command line).
  2. All the behavior is observed no matter what other settings (auto-hide,
show on) I pick.
  3. This describes a similar (the same?) problem:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1061924/ubuntu-wont-register-dock-settings-changes-in-18-04#new-answer

  Screenshots are attached.

  Please let me know if I should provide additional information.
  I am a fairly technical user, and I am willing to put in some effort to get
this resolved.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1824671] [NEW] message reporting app crash on system startup

2019-04-13 Thread Robert Williamson
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Release: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

robert@robert-HP-Pavilion-dm4-Notebook-PC:~$ apt-cache policy spice-vdagent
spice-vdagent:
  Installed: 0.17.0-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.17.0-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.17.0-1ubuntu2 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen
The computer was rebooting from the first update following the OS installation,
I expected nothing to happen.

4) What happened instead
A message popped up on the desktop saying an app crashed asking permission to
send a report.
I found a log file description of the problem:"Cannot access vdagent virtio
channel /dev/virtio-ports/com.redhat.spice.0"

** Affects: spice-vdagent (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1821820] Re: Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset

2019-04-13 Thread Robert Strube
Sorry for the spam, last post for now I promise!

Reading this bug report more closely, it does appear different than the
bug I am encountering. With *this* bug, one sees a black screen *with*
a cursor, my symptoms are different, as the laptop panel is failing
display link training, so nothing is displayed, it flickers a couple of
times and nothing every appears. *This* bug appears to be Xorg related,
but the bug I'm encountering (which is known on bugs.freedesktop.org) is
a bug with the i915 kernel module.

For now I've removed the duplicate status of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1824216 and will
add comments there moving forward.

Again apologies for posting so many times, I honestly thought this was
the same issue I'm encountering.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1821820] Re: Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset

2019-04-13 Thread Robert Strube
As a side note, this was the bug I had originally opened up in
launchpad, which I thought might have been a duplicate of this bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1824216)

Bug description:
  On this 19.04 beta I have to use nomodeset to boot & install Ubuntu
  Budgie.

  This is different behaviour from 18.04 and 18.10 where it booted and
  installed just fine without nomodeset.

  Without nomodeset, grub/efi disappears, and after a while a solid
  rather than blinking cursor on a black screen is seen. It does not
  boot into a live session, nor displays the ubiquity window

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1821820] Re: Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset

2019-04-13 Thread Robert Strube
I just tested with a fresh install of 19.04 (booted up with nomodeset
and installed). After installation I confirmed I was running
5.0.0-11.12, but the laptop panel link training issue is still present
(Dell XPS 9575) causing a black screen on boot. The only way to boot is
with nomodeset as a kernel boot parameter.

Note: as a side issue it was virtually impossible to bring up the grub
menu now in 19.04 (I think because the timeout is set to zero). I had
to make sure to chroot into the newly installed system (after
installing) and then edit the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file and manually edit
the timeout value.

I thought that the this Ubuntu bug was referring to this bug
(REGRESSION: black screen with linux 5.0 when starting X)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109959), but perhaps it's
referencing another issue entirely? Not sure, but either way the failed
link training bug still appears to be present with 5.0.0-11.12 causing
black screens on bootups with certain laptop panels.

Reading through that thread on bugs.freedesktop.org, Intel realized the
problem was caused by certain laptop panels not reporting their
specifications correctly (Dell XPS systems appear affected, but other
laptops will most likely also be affected), so the code they added to
optimize the link (fast and narrow vs. slow and wide) would cause
certain laptop panels to never display anything with modesetting.

Towards the end of the thread to posted a 5.0 backport patch which
completely removes the link  optimizations,
https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/296411/.  Based on the Ubuntu
kernel changelog I'm not sure exactly what patch was reverted. My guess
is it's for another issue entirely.

I'll probably try to compile the Ubuntu kernel with their the
freedesktop.org backport patch applied and report back. I can also post
my dmeg here for reference.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1824665] [NEW] Disconnects from WiFi (SSID)

2019-04-13 Thread El jinete sin cabeza
Private bug reported:

[Impact]
I am working with several programs at the same time. Like the web browser,
Transmission, and others. And it has happened to me twice today. The led of my
USB Wifi adapter is always on and there is no packet transfer. Then the
NetworkManager asks me for the password. Suggesting me in the small window with
hidden characters. Press 'OK' and ask me again. 'I forget' the password and add
it again. And I do not accept it either. I had to change the USB Wifi adapter
several times in USB ports. And suddenly it works again.

[Test Case]
- Turn on the Notebook
- Open programs that use WiFi intensely (Transmission)
- Wait a few hours
- Internet traffic is blocked
- NetworkManager requests the password of the SSID that I use
- Login password
- Does not accept the password
- I forgot SSID data
- Context the SSID that I use
- Ask for a password again
- Does not accept Password
- Change USB ports with my WiFi USB adapter
- And after a few minutes, it is correctly connected again.

Interesting. Since I'm only getting VpxVideoDecoder decode, I guess I
have an installation issue of some kind.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1824661] [NEW] Nvidia issues with 19.04 and XPS 15 9750 GTX 1050 Ti Mobile

2019-04-13 Thread Eric
Public bug reported:

Hello. I am having issues consistently with this laptop and the Nvidia
drivers in 19.04. I have tested this on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie,
and Ubuntu MATE. This is with both the recommended 418 driver as well as
390. Today I tried installing the latest daily of Ubuntu MATE with the
proprietary driver option on my Dell XPS 15 9570 with Nvidia GP107M
(GeForce GRX 1050 Time Mobile). Boots to blank screen that flashes a
couple times. Can't get to tty. Reboot, editing grub to include
nomodeset. Boots to underscore character in the top left. I can get tty
at least. 418 driver is installed. Looking at logs but nothing seems
obvious. If there's anything I can do to help with this please let me
know. Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

2019-04-13 Thread Steve Langasek
Based on comment #12 I am not sure that this is considered
"verification-done" by the relevant developers and there was no comment
given when the tags were changed. Resetting.

I also think there should be an affirmative test as part of this SRU
that the use case I described in comment #13 has not been regressed.

  A crasher when using nautilus. No clear reproducer.

  [ QA ]

  Under the GNOME MRE, believe all bugs that upstream says are fixed are
  really fixed without explicitly verifying them.

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

  Make sure nautilus works, and that the error tracker buckets listed
  below at least don't increase more rapidly (but hopefully tail off
  with the new version)

  [ Regression potential ]

  It's GLib. A regression could break the whole desktop, or any part of
  it... Our QA should help us have confidence that the update is at
  least not that bad.

  Happens when there's a "rename" to a file to its same value, no known
  reproducer though.

  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  The default working dir is hard coded to ~/Documents
  I had to redo my saved work, because I have assumed it was lost in ~/Dokumente

  I have now fixed this by changing the working directory manually.

  The default working dir should be changed to "xdg-user-dir DOCUMENTS"
  that other users so not suffer the same.

  I have updated from Xenial and never experienced these issues. Is it a
  kind of regression?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1735529] Re: Firefox incorrectly blacklists system for WebGL

2019-04-13 Thread Stefano
Same here, WebGL not activated. I'm trying to run scratch.mit.edu
programs.

No graphic card on this MSI U100 netbook, but there are the MESA
packages installed (libglx-mesa0, libgl1-mesa-dri,...)

error example in about config:
gfx.blacklist.webgl2.failureid;FEATURE_FAILURE_OPENGL_1

Title:
  Firefox incorrectly blacklists system for WebGL

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  This is with Ubuntu 16.04.

  Using the Ubuntu-provided Firefox 57.0, if I go to
  https://get.webgl.org/ I get the message:

  "Hmm. While your browser seems to support WebGL, it is disabled or
  unavailable. If possible, please ensure that you are running the
  latest drivers for your video card."

  In the JavaScript developer console there are some messages,
  including:

  "Error: WebGL warning: Failed to create WebGL context: WebGL creation failed:
  * Refused to create native OpenGL context because of blacklist entry:
FEATURE_FAILURE_OPENGL_1
  * Exhausted GL driver options."

  There are similar messages for WebGL in about:support.

  However if I download Firefox 57.0 from
  https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/57.0/linux-x86_64/en-
  US/firefox-57.0.tar.bz2 and use that to go to https://get.webgl.org/ ,
  I get the message "Your browser supports WebGL".

  So it looks like Ubuntu-provided Firefox has a problem while Mozilla-
  provided Firefox doesn't. (FYI, I reported a similar problem in
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1724705 , where
  DRM-protected content doesn't work with Ubuntu-provided Firefox but
  does work with Mozilla-provided Firefox.)

Public bug reported:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1823550] Re: GtkSourceView wrongly has monospaced font in dropdown (context) menu

2019-04-13 Thread Norbert
Thanks, Khurshid!

I automated your method by

```
mkdir -p ~/.config/gtk-3.0
cat > ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css << EOF
.context-menu {
font-weight: medium;
font-family: regular;
}
EOF
```

and got almost normal context menu in Pluma.

In lp: #1242984 light theme is already using (see
https://code.launchpad.net/~larsu/ubuntu-themes/gedit-
fixes/+merge/201212)

.context-menu { font: regular medium;}

not sure why it is not working. May be it needs to use font-family. So
changing it in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css works for me.

.context-menu {
font-weight: medium;

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Have Ubuntu 17.04 or later installed
  2. Open any application with GtkSourceView component - such as Pluma, Gedit,
Giggle, Gitg, gnome-builder and maybe others (see complete list with `apt-cache
rdepends libgtksourceview-3.0-1`)
  3. Click right mouse button on text zone

  Expected result:
  * dropdown menu has normal font as all other interface elements

  Actual result:
  * dropdwon menu wrongly has monospaced font

  Notes:
  * first seen in 17.04, but persists in 17.10, 18.04 LTS, 18.10, 19.04
releases.
  * seems to be caused by GTK3 library

Bug description:
  * Impact
  the airplane mode key doesn't work in GNOME

  * Test case
  Use a laptop with a key to activate airplane mode, it should toggle the
corresponding mode on/off when used

  * Regression potential
  The change adds a new key definition but doesn't touch any existing one,
nothing specific to test out of the new key working

  -

  There are a couple things going on, that could be fixed by a Debian or
  Ubuntu maintainer:

  - libxkbdcommon needs to be updated from 0.7.1 to 0.7.2. This
  introduces the RFKill key: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives
  /wayland-devel/2017-August/034721.html

  - x11-proto needs a new release. This commit added RFKill, but it is
  not in a release:

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/proto/xproto/commit/?id=98a32d328e7195e12c38baa877917335bceffbaf

  - Likely other X11 packages need to be rebuilt.

Title:
  unable to copy small files with nautilus on cifs mount

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I have this bug on two different computers with ubuntu 18.04
  I never encounter this this 16.04 and any previous releases

  I am working on a web site with many (twenty) small php files (less
  than 100bytes)

  When I copy paste the full www folder nautilus hangs on a certain file, a
small one...
  When I copy paste one small file from a subfolder of www to an other sufolder
it hangs

  I got the message :
  Copie de index.php vers pictures
  0 octet / 65 octets - environ 596 523 heures restantes

  Sometimes I got a 0 byte in my folder which is hard to remove even on
  terminal

  But If I do a paste again, just after the stall, I got from nautilus
  the message the file exists and if I "replace" it works.

  Copying/pasting a file in the same folder don't work at all :
  Duplication de index.php
  0 octet / 65 octets - environ 596 523 heures restantes

  *
  context :
  I am working with different computers physicals and virtualbox on these files
with absolutely no problems
  The configuration is always the same:
  My cifs mount are mounted with autofs on /home/ad/auto
  I have something like that in autofd configuration files:

  moi -fstype=cifs,credentials=/home/ad/.credentials/ad-
  credentials,iocharset=utf8 ://192.168.1.20/ad_moi

  I have the problem when I am on the same computer, the one with samba server,
in this case I have
  127.0.0.1 instead of 192.168.1.20in config files.

  The problem is not with autofs. I can get it without it...

  I can reproduce it on an other computer with ubuntu 19.10
  the copy/paste of www hangs on the first file : a 388 bytes png file

  copying with terminal with cp works fine

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1821820] Re: Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset

2019-04-13 Thread Timo Aaltonen
the reason why it hasn't landed yet is that there have been other bugs
that meant the kernel had to be respun a few times, but 5.0.0-11.12 is
finally in proposed and should be the final kernel for the release..

  Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  On this 19.04 beta I have to use nomodeset to boot & install Ubuntu
  Budgie.

  This is different behaviour from 18.04 and 18.10 where it booted and
  installed just fine without nomodeset.

  Without nomodeset, grub/efi disappears, and after a while a solid
  rather than blinking cursor on a black screen is seen. It does not
  boot into a live session, nor displays the ubiquity window
