The bug is a regression in Disco: in Cosmic Gedit is built using autotools while in Disco we use meson. During the port to meson upstream forgot to port a build option (in particular 'enable-gvfs- metadata', enabled by default). Without this option a broken - and untested - code path is activated. To fix this bug we should reintroduce the 'enable-gvfs-metadata' option. [Test case] 1. Create a big text file 2. Open gedit 3. Close the window while the file is still being loaded Also check there are no more reports in e.u.c. [Regression Potential] The change affects the way gedit stores the file metadata. I have had difficulties with it accepting Firefox, Files and the Terminal icons. I "work around" seems to be to include the icon at the second last spot from the bottom. Public bug reported: Setting the framebuffer scaling (with gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-framebuffer']") allows the display on HiDPi to be scaled to something different than 100%/200%/300%. Which would be fine. However, the display is rendered such that most applications provide blurred display of text and graphics. This is not always the case (e.g. system settings are displayed correctly, Thunderbird and Firefox are blurred). Also the screen flickers when selection menus or resizing the windows. A black border appears around the windows where the shadow should appear. It gets removed a few seconds later but still is irritating. This issue is not urgent, just annoying. It can be worked around by removing the settings in gsetting / dconf. Interestingly, this used to work for ages, and now suddenly popped up all of a sudden. Running `sudo kbd_mode -s` worked for me too. Please could an attempt be made to prevent this from happening in the future? It's quite annoying. In order to file a bug against the "Put Windows" extension, I wrote up instructions for replicating the issue with a vbox VM. But installing the plugin from scratch resulted in a working extension and desktop. Hi Wayne. I am sorry for the slow response to your info request. I finally have
time to get back to this.
I have been trying for an hour to install the latest version of Thunderbird
Beta 67.0b
I used to be able to just unzip the tarball, go into the extracted directories
and double click on the file named Thunderbird inside the directory and it
would run. Now I get an error (attached screen shot).
I am sorry but I am unable to test this.

I also tried that recently and saw the same Error message.
I'm pretty sure the application launched when I clicked the thunderbird-
bin file.
I never have trouble when using a Terminal and use
~/test/thunderbird/thunderbird -p to open the profile manager.

I have tested this bug report (Delete does not move message to trash) in
Thunderbird beta 67.0b.
The emails are properly moving to the deleted folder when they are deleted.

I think you might have an "app not install" problem, but I am no expert.

tI've had this problem for a number of years on a range of Ubuntu distros; I'm currently working from an Ubuntu install that I switched over to Xubuntu after some graphics issues with the standard window manager. The problem can usually be triggered when I have too many tabs open while one of them is playing Youtube audio in a background tab. Because of this, I suspect there could be a memory allocation issue; tried increasing available browser memory, but since I really have no idea what the problem is, I figured I would post here as well. Let me know if you would like any diagnostic outputs or something similar. Attaching some hw info. I'm selecting automatic (DHCP) to get an IP address, and "Use this connection only for resources on its network" to support split tunneling. In the last few versions of Ubuntu I used, this all worked fine. In Ubuntu 17.10 (fresh install, not upgrade) I can access hosts on both my VPN network and the internet, BUT I have to use FQDN for my VPN network hosts: the updates to the DNS search path provided by my VPN DHCP server are never being applied. Investigating the system I see that /etc/resolv.conf is pointing to /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf and that resolv.conf does not have any of the VPN's search path settings in it: # This file is managed by man:systemd-resolved(8). Do not edit. # # 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver. # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers. nameserver 127.0.0.53 search home In previous versions of Ubuntu, where NetworkManager controlled the resolver not systemd, /etc/resolv.conf pointed to /run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf and there was a local dnsmasq instance that managed all the complexity. In Ubuntu 17.10 when I look in /run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf file, I see that the search paths ARE properly updated there: $ cat /run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf # Generated by NetworkManager search internal.mycorp.com other.mycorp.com home nameserver 127.0.1.1 However this file isn't being used, and also there's no dnsmasq running on the system so if I switch my /etc/resolv.conf to point to this file instead, then all lookups fail. Strangely, if I look at the systemd-resolv status I see that in theory systemd-resolve does seem to know about the proper search paths: $ systemd-resolve --status ... It is also a rather isolated feature that should not conflict with existing ones. The feature will be activated only if configured from the command line, so the risk of regressions should be small. Public bug reported: Yesterday my WiFi card(Intel Wireless 3165) didn't show up on resuming the laptop from a suspend state. I rebooted a few times and found that the situation hadn't changed. Rebooting and choosing older kernels didn't help. I ran lspci and discovered my WiFi card was missing in the output. I shut down the laptop assuming my WiFi card suffered a hardware failure. In the evening, after starting up from a full shutdown, the WiFi card worked again. Today, the situation happened again, but I approached the debugging more methodically. I looked at nmcli and found it still saw my wifi card but found it unavailable. lspci could still see the Wifi card in the last position. I analyzed dmesg output and discovered an iwlwifi crash(the relevant part of dmesg is provided in wifi_dmesg.txt attachment). Then, I rebooted the laptop. This didn't fix the issue and from a quick look at lspci, the wifi card was missing again. So I repeated the procedure that worked the previous day - full shutdown, wait 10 seconds, then start up. This restored my WiFi card to a working state and allowed me to file this bug report. I will be happy to provide any further information that could read to fixing this issue. This bug contains a crash related to bug 1795089.
Local code is used for libmutter, to solve bug 1790525 and to display
buffersizes at module setup_spans at cogl/cogl/cogl-texture-2d-sliced.c and at
module allocate_from_bitmap at cogl/cogl/driver/gl/cogl-texture-2d-gl.c .
Dual monitor is used without a monitors.xml files usable by gdm3 with
wayland.
After logging in using ubuntu with wayland both screens are shown, but
crash after a short time without user doing anything.
At syslog we see the displayed buffersizes which are too large before
the crash:

I never used this feature, so I just uninstall with "apt-get remove speech-dispatcher". It's not a problem to me, but I reported the bug for 2 reason: - Some people maybe need this feature; - Maybe basic users couldn't find a solution for this annoying bug and can "go away" from "linux world". It’s a annoying bug and i don’t know the best way to report it. This bug contains a crash related to bug 1795089.
Local code is used for libmutter, to solve bug 1790525 and to display
buffersizes at module setup_spans at cogl/cogl/cogl-texture-2d-sliced.c and at
module allocate_from_bitmap at cogl/cogl/driver/gl/cogl-texture-2d-gl.c .
Dual monitor is used without a monitors.xml files usable by gdm3 with
wayland.
After logging in using ubuntu with wayland both screens are shown, but
crash after a short time without user doing anything.
At syslog we see the displayed buffersizes which are too large before
the crash:

I tried using the command `xinput`, so libinput might be related? I have one more update. I could not use ubuntu 18.04 with this bug, so since then, I have been working on ubuntu 16.04 with unity. Yesterday I tried ubuntu 19.04 on a live usb and after configure to my usual setting, the bug was not present. I proceeded to install in on my computer, and I found the bug again. I tried the same procedure and I got the same results. Therefore, I am guessing it could be some configuration file somewhere. After backing up my files, I did a clean install and now the bug is nowhere to be found. I could not determine what it was, but I am thinking it was something in the transition to gnome was not compatible. I am using 19.04 with no problem now, working perfectly and very surprised at how much the desktop has evolved in over a year. Beautiful and fast! kudos to everyone involved. To change the input method you press the selected key, and an indicator menu appears on-screen to indicate which language is selected next. The menu disapears after 2~3 seconds and during which time typing is blocked. If you type while the language input method menu is displayed, the menu will not disapear and stay as long as you type. The language input menu should not block typing, and the disapearance of the menu should not be delayed by typing.
