[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1850887] Re: Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs
Nice, commenting both lines worked for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850887 Title: Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: PulseAudio reverts the sound to HDMI all the time when a HDMI related power event occurs. That means, although I have set another USB sound device plugged in and set as default under sound settings, when an application like Kodi or the system shuts off the HDMI monitor and I reactivate the monitor, the sound is set to HDMI output again and again. That probably has to do with the fix to the reported Bug # 1711101 and definitely not happened at Ubuntu 19.04. I switched to Ubuntu 19.10 two days ago. Setting the USB device as default does not help, even when done by PulseAudio mixer (gui) and removing HDMI output from the alternatives option. Expected behavior: PulseAudio keeps the sound setting to the selected device Actual behavior: PulseAudio changes to HDMI at every HDMI power event Annoying manual workaround: Setting the desired Audio option on the control panel after every HDMI power event again ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Component: pulseaudio Version: 1:13.0-1ubuntu1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1850887/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: I am running Ubuntu 19.10 and encountered this issue. I had a podcast playing in the background on Firefox v. 70.0.1 and I was deleting some files. I then proceeded to empty the trash and saw that the audio stops briefly till the "Empty all items from Trash?" prompt shows up. I was able to duplicate this many times and it even occurred with audio on Chrome. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1852001] Re: Xorg freeze on high disk or cpu load or random
I exactly once got a GPU HANG. The attached logs are from the following setting: - high disk load (f3write) - kernel 4.15.0-1050-oem (the only 4x kernel available in eoan) - no swap available These are the parameters (disk load, kernel, swap) I am fiddling with to find out the cause, see below. In general - the problem happens once a day with any 5.0 or 5.3 kernel from eoan repo - more likely to happen with high disk or CPU load, but not necessarily. - less likely with the 4.x kernel mentioned above. I just installed the following kernels from kernel-ppa: 5.3.10-050310-generic 5.4.0-050400rc6-generic 5.4.0-997-generic (drm-intel-next) Now I am waiting for the freeze to occur again. The problem started about half a year ago. There have been three changes that happened at the time and could be the cause - switch to kernel 5.x - update to Ubuntu 19.4 - swapped motherboard, CPU and RAM. The hassle started with the following scenario, repeated often: - high disk load - PC becomes laggy - soon dies/freezes The longer I waited, the deeper the lockdown went. but I don't know the exact details. The first cause I found was kswapd running amok and take the system with it. Workaround: add swap space. Now the problem shifted: Whenever I got high disk load (eg dd 100 GB of data) the kernel swaps likle crazy and makes the GUI first lag soon freeze. but no excessive CPU load any more, as kswapd does not go crazy. Again I found a workaround: the above mentioned 4.x kernel. In this case the GUI lags as expected from a heavily swapping system. nothing more. but still sometimes the GUI simply freezes (the error reported at the top) Another workaround is to completely remove swap. Let's see what happens, if kswapd goes amok again. I am not sure as how these problems are related. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
Interesting. Just my two (Euro) cents, could that be related to the Nvidia drivers being loaded early in the boot process, and being in the initramfs ? Imho, the only things that should reside in the initramfs are the tools needed for the kernel to get access to the root filesystem, period. No need for fancy graphics before that, and I'm sure even people encrypting their root fs could be happy with an "ugly" password prompt. I mean, fancy graphics are nice, but that's worth nothing if the system is unbootable, and playing with the early boot process shouldn't be done lightly. I too had problems with my system being unbootable after upgrade (related to the Nvidia driver too), and among other things I removed everything that was setting the FRAMEBUFFER initramfs option, because that's what brings the Nvidia driver in the initramfs. I wasn't sure that solved my problem though, but now that I read that removing the splash option from the kernel command line solves a similar problem, I'm thinking about it again... On my laptop, two files were setting the FRAMEBUFFER option : /etc /initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash that was created upon installing the MATE desktop environment, and a configuration hook script that was installed by the crypsetup-initramfs package. I removed the first file and purged the crypsetup-initramfs package, and got no more Nvidia GPU driver in the initramfs ! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845801 Title: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1212736] Re: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android
Guys, In Ubuntu, there is a huge problem in the way touchscreen works. Only chrome has correctly implemented the functionalities. All the other applications have a poor user experience. Maybe you can discuss with someone from Google and try to replicate that, system-wide. I have a Huawei Matebook and because of this behaviour, I switch to windows from time to time :) Kind regards, Ciprian -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1212736 Title: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Windows 8 and Android Status in mousetweaks package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist convertible ultrabook (Intel Core i7). The tablet mode (touchscreen-only operation, keyboard folded away) gets continuously working better. One important missing feature is an easy-to-do right click. I suggest to emulate the right-click by a long press on the screen. It is done in Android this way, too, and works very well for me. Note that the long-press right-click functionality in "Universal Access" in the Control Center only works with a mouse and not with the touch screen (another bug). @Ryan Sipes: have others in fact now tested the ostensible fix? I feel that this bug report - and indeed mine (#1593578), which at present remains open - should be closed only if there has been a fair amount of testing. (I hesitate myself to test. Here is why. When I have installed nightly versions of Thunderbird it has caused problems with my main Thunderbird installation. Yet perhaps that happened only on Windows. If so I could try a nightly version of Thunderbird at least if I could get it as an appImage or similar.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1265898 Title: thunderbird doesn't remember maximized window state in Ubuntu Gnome Status in Mozilla Thunderbird: Fix Released Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Not sure if this is thunderbird or gnome-shell related issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1851807] Re: xdg-desktop-portal-gtk spams logs
After upgrading from Ubuntu 19.04 into 19.10 the other day I have noticed the same thing (among with csgo in full screen no longer works (alt+tab once is ok, alt+tab twice and the fullscreen rendering ends up in the bottom of the screen) and sometimes trying to close the terminal window (and perhaps other windows too) will hang the gui - the later might be related to this issue). That is the system log is being spammed with these messages (noone at Canonical or the maintainers who looks into "journalctl -b" to clean broken things up every now and then?). 1) Gooling on this topic it seems like xdg-desktop-portal-gtk might have this fixed in 1.5.0.something, question then is if this will be backported into the version used by Ubuntu 19.10 unless 19.10 would take the leap and upgrade the minor version into fixed one? 2) Possible manual workaround in the meantime might be to use something like dconf-editor and enable "introspect" which is a setting placed within /org/gnome/shell (scrolldown and you should see it). However little through Google can be found what this setting really does and if its bad or not (I guess there is a reason for why it was disabled to begin with?). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xdg-desktop-portal-gtk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851807 Title: xdg-desktop-portal-gtk spams logs Status in xdg-desktop-portal-gtk package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Every minute I get a log entry that looks like > xdg-desktop-por[ ]: Failed to get application states: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.portal.Error.Failed: Could not get window list: GDBus.Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied: App introspection not allowed Upstream bug-report: https://github.com/flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal- gtk/issues/222 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Package: xdg-desktop-portal-gtk 1.4.0-2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-19.20-generic 5.3.1 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-19-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu8.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Fri Nov 8 10:51:30 2019 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-11-07 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.10 "Eoan Ermine" - Release amd64 (20191017) ProcEnviron: TERM=screen-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/usr/bin/zsh SourcePackage: xdg-desktop-portal-gtk UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdg-desktop-portal-gtk/+bug/1851807/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
