[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865326] [NEW] extra spaces on right and bottom border of gnome terminal's scrollbar

2020-02-29 Thread Mohammad Anwar Shah
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 19.10, On certain themes including the default adwaita theme
which is used in vaniall gnome session, there are some extra ugly spaces
around the scrollbar of the gnome terminal at right and bottom.

I've checked other linux versions with same GNOME version, they don't
have it.

I've attached a screenshot of that

I've asked a question on AskUbuntu site and many suggested to file a bug
report https://askubuntu.com/q/1206023/61218

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865314] [NEW] Suggest removal of xkeystone

2020-02-29 Thread Joe Francis
Public bug reported:

x11-xserver-utils includes the script /usr/bin/xkeystone

xkeystone is a nickle script, and x11-xserver-utils does not depend on
nickle, and even if you install nickle the script fails with a massive
amount of syntax errors. (as tested with both bionic and focal
packages).

It's not clear to me what xkeystone is supposed to do - there's no man
page or any documentation I could find. The only thing I was able to
find are various threads where other distros remove this binary, so I
suggest we remove it from ubuntu as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865308] [NEW] gvfs fails to mount previously working SMB share (from nautilus)

2020-02-29 Thread DooMMasteR
Public bug reported:

When accessing my SMB share (samba on linux/openwrt) Nautilus reports that the

Title:
  exact scrolling

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When you use the text editor, gedit, the web browser, firefox, the e-mail
reader, thunderbird, the file manager, nautilus, the word processor, writer of
LibreOffice, and more in general every window having a scroll bar, tipically on
the right side, in all these Ubuntu applications there is a good problem as
user experience.
This because, in example, to choose the a new font in writer when you click
with the mouse in the scroll bar on the right, the page jump to the page
clicked without show the fonts page by page (that obviously is of the size of
the list of the showed fonts). In example, this happen even during the
installation of Ubuntu when it's necessary to choose the language. This happen
even in the window of thunderbird where, clicking on the right scroll bar, the
user wants to see the e-mails page by page thus a little at the time, otherwise
is quite impossible to use the scrollbar and the user is forced to use the
arrow on the keyboard scrolling the e-mails one at the time.
More, the function should not be a horizontal line with a fixed speed but an
incrased and decreased speed like a gaussian shape
  https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/it/b/b3/Gaussiana_chauvenet.jpeg
or if you prefer another shape as speed profile but should be delicate,
proportional, in\decremental and smooth.
If you don't want to loose the capability to jump at the end of a window with
the scrolling bar, jumping thousands of pages, you could put an option on the
top of the scrolling bar to choose the kind of user experience "jump to this
page" or "scroll page by page". In example, in nautilus, if you have thousands
of pages you could highlight on the right scrollbar the letter (or number)
where will start the page where you are going to jump.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865297] [NEW] Deleted event in series is not removed

2020-02-29 Thread Jesse Steele
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04, I have waited long to see this fixed, but no change.
Synced with a Nextcloud instance for CalDAV.

When deleting a single event from my Android phone, event has been
deleted in the online Nextcloud calendar and in the Android app, but not
from the Gnome Calendar. Tried on multiple Android apps, same result.

Single events CAN be deleted from Gnome Calendar just fine.

I still have this on the latest 20.04 dailies on an Asus C200 Chromebook (that
also has the
chtmax98090 chip). Even using the Github approach as listed in the OP doesn't
seem to help - it appears in Pulsemixer but I still have no sound output.

Bug description:
The area behind the tabs acts as part of the title bar so middle-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1097125] Re: chromium-browser has min/max/close buttons at upper right

2020-02-29 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. Over the last ten years there have
been many changes in Ubuntu and a number of flavours have been added to
the desktop environments available within the "Ubuntu" distribution.

If still an issue using a maintained version of Chromium then please let
us know otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60
days time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1269092] Re: "Aw Snap!" from chromium-browser v31 because needs updated chromium-codecs-ffmpeg

2020-02-29 Thread Paul White
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner.

I'm setting this bug to "Incomplete" as it's not seen any activity for
some time. If this is still an issue when using a maintained release of
Ubuntu then please let us know otherwise this bug report can be left to
expire in approximately 60 days time.

Title:
"Aw Snap!" from chromium-browser v31 because needs updated chromium-
  codecs-ffmpeg

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm on an ARM system, but I'm guessing this could happen on x86 or x64
  too.

I start with a stock raring (13.04) install that does not have the
  raring-updates debian package location in /etc/apt/sources.list. I
install xubuntu-desktop and chromium-browser. The last package also
installs a chromium-codecs-ffmpeg package. Without the updates I get
version 25 of the browser. I want the latest stable (v31), but
upgrading some packages breaks my graphics driver (hidden in a mesa
library I heard). So I add the raring-updates location and only
upgrade "chromium-browser". This also grabbed the chromium language
package, but it did not upgrade chromium-codecs-ffmpeg. Afterwards if
I try to view google.com, about a second after the page loads I get an
"Aw Snap!" and the chromium log has this.

  ...
  [24337:24337:0113/180942:VERBOSE1:ffmpeg_stubs.cc(467)] Couldn't load
av_frame_unref, dlerror() says:

sends
  [24337:24337:0113/180942:VERBOSE1:ipc_sync_channel.cc(385)] Canceling pending

  ...

But if I manually also upgrade chromium-codecs-ffmpeg to the latest
version I can view google.com fine. I assume this means there is a
missing dependency for the newer version of the ffmpeg codecs pack in
the current chromium-browser package. I've tried to grab dependency
  information for chromium-browser below.

  $ apt-cache showpkg chromium-browser

Title:
Can't reload "He's dead, Jim" web page with right-click

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
More than half of my tabs end up with the message "He's dead, Jim" at
any given time with Chromium-browser. Regular pages allow a reload
from a menu that is brought up with a right-click. No such menu pops
up when right clicking on a "He's dead" page.

  Steps to produce:
use chromium-browser a few minutes until a "He's dead, Jim" page pops up,
  right click -- no menu

The same menu that is brought up on a regular page with a right click
ought to also be brought up on a "He's dead" page. Please add the
  menu to "He's dead" pages.

  arrowheads' function

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:

  1. Start Chromium with new (temporary) profile
  2. Go to chrome://settings/advanced
  3. Set Page zoom to 500%
  4. For any page with content, open the Elements panel
  5. Try to expand/shrink elements

  What happens:
With the expanding/shrinking arrowheads zoomed 500%, but with code still at
default zoom, it's extremely difficult to hit the arrowhead in the right spot
to expand/shrink elements. Depending on the selected Page zoom level the actual
hotspot may even fall completely outside the arrowhead graphic (to the left
from it).

  What I expect to happen:
For the arrowheads and the code to both follow the Page zoom setting or
ignore it, and either way, for the arrowhead graphic to function as the actual
hotspot for expanding/shrinking elements.

The same issue was reported on evince gitlab but someone (a dev?) said
that the version is too old to be handled by them and ask here.

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evince/issues/1346 that's the original

Edit: Installing the latest version from Flathub makes evince to run again

Title:
Regression: Firefox enforces middlemouse.contentLoadURL to false.

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When I've upgraded my ubuntu and got firefox 7.0.1 I've unexpectedly
lost the possibility to paste URLs directly into browser window. That
possibility is more than very useful as I don't have to do lot of
things - exactly to load some URL into current non-empty tab I have
  to: 1) select URL; 2) press Ctrl+C; 3) click on URL line in browser;
  4) select all in there; 5) press Ctrl+V; 6) press 'Enter'. With that
  possibility it's very-very simple: 1) select URL; 2) middle-click in
browser window - yes, that's all. And now I cannot do that because
config variable middlemouse.contentLoadURL changed it's default to
false (and I think it's ubuntu-specific default, the same version
7.0.1 in debian-testing have it true as it always been) and it's even
worse - even when I open about:config and toggle it, it works as it
should be but as soon I close firefox and start it again that value is
reset to false again and that means I should set it manually each time
I start firefox! I've fixed that weird bug by downgrading firefox to
version from natty. Fix it back, please!

2. Find a big file with unknown size
3. Right-click "Save As"
4. The download window appears
5. Firefox is now using 60% CPU just to update that Gtk Progress bar

Ideally the CPU load should be no more than for wget doing the same.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865128] Re: English US spelling dictionary appears in the languages' menu even though it's not installed

2020-02-29 Thread Paul White
I'm confirming this issue as there does seem to be something not quite
right with respect to dictionaries which are based on the English
language.

If I go to about:addons | Languages, I see English (GB) and English (CA)
as being installed although I have disabled the Canadian option.

If I spellcheck the text box into which I am currently typing I see the
following variants of English available: Australia, Canada, South
Africa, United Kingdom and United States.

I haven't been able to find an upstream bug that adequately describes
what I'm currently seeing in Firefox 73 and probably have been seeing
for some time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1862926] Re: Request for update: SANE 1.0.29

2020-02-29 Thread nmaxx
That you so much for updating SANE to 1.0.29 - I think scanning in
Ubuntu is in a *much* better place now, including futureproofing via the
AirPrint device support. :)

Can't wait for the 20.04 release...

Title:
  Request for update: SANE 1.0.29

Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in sane-backends package in Debian:
  Unknown

Bug description:
In Focal we are still a bit old-fashioned regarding scanning. We are
still at the ancient SANE 1.0.27! That is really INSANE.

Current version is 1.0.29 and it contains a very important new feature
which will make hundreds (thousands?) of new scanners work with
Ubuntu. This new feature is Apple AirScan support as a client. I have
introduced a lot of nice printing stuff to support AirPrint, making
lots of printers (practically all modern network printers) working,
and all the multi-function devices under these (printer and scanner in
one) do AirScan, so all these scanner will work with SANE 1.0.29 (if
yours does not, it is a bug in SANE, please report).

The AirScan support is provided by the new "escl" backend. supporting
the eSCL protocol AirPrint is based on. The protocol uses HTTP and
XML, so this works out-of-the-box if your printer is connected to the
network, if it is connected via USB it work via IPP-over-USB using the
  ippusbxd package.

  Changes list from upstream:

  - Backends
+ adds an escl backend (theoretically supporting all AirPrint devices with
a scan unit
+ adds support for 23 new scanner models via existing backends
+ significantly changes genesys and pixma backends
+ fixes bugs in canon_dr, fujitsu, hp3900, mustek_usb2, plustek and
xerox_mfp backends
+ fixes all compiler warnings on Debian 10 (#120)
+ fixes portability issues for uClibc-ng and MacOS builds
+ adds support to record and replay USB I/O traffic
+ adds timestamps to debug logs

  debdiff attached.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828389] Re: Progress bar in nautilus icon not restored after wake up screen

2020-02-29 Thread paul janssen
** Description changed:

Observed in Unbuntu 18.04 and Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS

- When copying a substantial amount of files, that will take some time, a
progress bar appears in the nautilus desktop/toolbar icon.
- In the event the copy task is not done, this progress bar is not restored
after the screen has gone to sleep and is woken up again.
+ When copying a substantial amount of files, that will take some time, a
progress bar appears in the nautilus icon in the desktop dock.
+ Normally that progress bar disappears when the file copy task is done.
+ However, locking and unlocking the screen while the file copy task is still
busy, will also cause the progress bar to disappear.
+ But that is not correct since the file copy task is not done yet.

- For me this led to loss of data, as I assumed that the copy process was
- done, and I started to remove the files I thought were copied.
+ For me this led to loss of data, as I was lead to believe that the copy
+ process was done, and I started to remove the files I thought were
+ copied.

- I expected to see a progress bar in the nautilus icon, as I saw it before the
screen was put to sleep, since the copy action was not finished yet.
+ I expected to see a progress bar in the nautilus icon, as I saw it before the
screen was locked, since the copy action was not finished yet.
But the progress bar was gone. Just the bare nautilus ("Files") icon.

I checked if this was "normal" behavior for an icon with a progress bar.
For this I used the archive manager to compress a large folder.
- Verfied that there appeared an archive manager icon containing a progress
bar, put the screen to sleep, woke it up again, checked the archive manager
icon and it still had a progress bar.
+ Verified that there appeared an archive manager icon containing a progress
bar, locked the screen, unlocked the screen, checked the archive manager icon
and it still had a progress bar.

For the nautilus icon this is not the case, the progress bar in the icon
is not restored, even though the copy action is still ongoing.

  nautilus:
- Installed: 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6
+   Installed: 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6

** Summary changed:

- Progress bar in nautilus icon not restored after wake up screen
+ Progress bar in nautilus dock icon not restored after locking->unlocking
screen

yes, we need the new xkbcomp or it'll complain and abort when Xwayland
is started

I've synced it now, it'll take a while to go through the machinery

  Running :

Upgrading from 2.26-2ubuntu4 to 2.29-1 caused my French AZERTY keyboard to be
QWERTY.
  If I run :
  setxkbmap fr
in a terminal, then everything becomes ok again.
The issue is not present in GNOME Terminal but is present in Synaptic or
Firefox e.g., I guess it could be X/Wayland apps difference ?

Anyway, downgrading to xkb-data 2.26-2ubuntu4 did solve the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865263] Re: [Focal] xkb-data 2.29-1 breaks AZERTY keyboard

2020-02-29 Thread Giuseppe C
I can confirm this. This morning after upgrading I found myself with a
US keyboard layout without realizing why, and with no way to get back to
my own, not from dpkg/reconfigure keyboard/configuration nor from
localectl. (those are supposed to be hyphens, yeah)

The funny thing is that in gnome/terminal my layout is fully recognized,
it-s just firefox and some other app that do not play nice.

i have prepared dbus rules:

Bug description:
  Running :
Ubuntu GNOME session 20.04 up to date
  GNOME Shell + Mutter 3.35.91
  Wayland session
French language configuration (fr in kb config files)
  AZERTY keyboard

Upgrading from 2.26-2ubuntu4 to 2.29-1 caused my French AZERTY keyboard to be
QWERTY.
  If I run :
  setxkbmap fr
in a terminal, then everything becomes ok again.
The issue is not present in GNOME Terminal but is present in Synaptic or
Firefox e.g., I guess it could be X/Wayland apps difference ?

Anyway, downgrading to xkb-data 2.26-2ubuntu4 did solve the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865257] Re: Pulseaudio needs kernal conf IMU=size (64)

2020-02-29 Thread stuart naylor
Should be listed for RPi as the MTU is 64 but not sure how to report
specific Rpi kernel bugs?

Title:
Pulseaudio needs kernal conf IMU=size (64)

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Since Pulseaudio 11.0
  https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Notes/11.0/
  "Improved bluetooth MTU configuration
The packet size (a.k.a. MTU, "maximum transmission unit") that PulseAudio
uses with the bluetooth HSP profile was previously always configured to be 48
bytes. That worked with most hardware, but some adapters require a different
packet size. Now PulseAudio asks the kernel what packet size should be used,
which fixes the problem.

However, a new problem appeared: some adapters that used to work with
48 byte packet size don't any more work with the size that the kernel
tells PulseAudio to use. If you find that HSP audio stopped working
when upgrading to PulseAudio 11.0, you can revert to the old behaviour
by passing option "autodetect_mtu=no" to module-bluetooth-discover in
/etc/pulse/default.pa. If that fixes the problem, then please report
the problem to the BlueZ and/or PulseAudio developers, so that the
  kernel can be fixed.

Update: We decided to disable the MTU autodetection in 11.1 by
default, because the feature caused too much problems and it looked
like the kernel would not really get fixed even when people reported
  issues."

Presume its a config option in the kernel that differs on each model.
Pi3/4 should be 64 as they are very much like the 48 byte packages in
reverse as don't work with the default of 48.

Its listed as Pulse audio but presume it should be a config setting of
the kernel for each Pi model.
