Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 19.10, On certain themes including the default adwaita theme which is used in vaniall gnome session, there are some extra ugly spaces around the scrollbar of the gnome terminal at right and bottom. I've checked other linux versions with same GNOME version, they don't have it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865314] [NEW] Suggest removal of xkeystone
Public bug reported: Originally posted this as a question https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/689060 and was directed here. x11-xserver-utils includes the script /usr/bin/xkeystone xkeystone is a nickle script, and x11-xserver-utils does not depend on nickle, and even if you install nickle the script fails with a massive amount of syntax errors. (as tested with both bionic and focal packages). It's not clear to me what xkeystone is supposed to do - there's no man page or any documentation I could find. The only thing I was able to find are various threads where other distros remove this binary, so I suggest we remove it from ubuntu as well. ** Affects: x11-xserver-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to x11-xserver-utils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1865314 Title: Suggest removal of xkeystone Status in x11-xserver-utils package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Originally posted this as a question https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/689060 and was directed here. x11-xserver-utils includes the script /usr/bin/xkeystone xkeystone is a nickle script, and x11-xserver-utils does not depend on nickle, and even if you install nickle the script fails with a massive amount of syntax errors. This because, in example, to choose the a new font in writer when you click with the mouse in the scroll bar on the right, the page jump to the page clicked without show the fonts page by page (that obviously is of the size of the list of the showed fonts). In example, this happen even during the installation of Ubuntu when it's necessary to choose the language. This happen even in the window of thunderbird where, clicking on the right scroll bar, the user wants to see the e-mails page by page thus a little at the time, otherwise is quite impossible to use the scrollbar and the user is forced to use the arrow on the keyboard scrolling the e-mails one at the time. More, the function should not be a horizontal line with a fixed speed but an incrased and decreased speed like a gaussian shape https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/it/b/b3/Gaussiana_chauvenet.jpeg or if you prefer another shape as speed profile but should be delicate, proportional, in\decremental and smooth. If you don't want to loose the capability to jump at the end of a window with the scrolling bar, jumping thousands of pages, you could put an option on the top of the scrolling bar to choose the kind of user experience "jump to this page" or "scroll page by page". In example, in nautilus, if you have thousands of pages you could highlight on the right scrollbar the letter (or number) where will start the page where you are going to jump. I start with a stock raring (13.04) install that does not have the raring-updates debian package location in /etc/apt/sources.list. I install xubuntu-desktop and chromium-browser. The last package also installs a chromium-codecs-ffmpeg package. Without the updates I get version 25 of the browser. I want the latest stable (v31), but upgrading some packages breaks my graphics driver (hidden in a mesa library I heard). So I add the raring-updates location and only upgrade "chromium-browser". Start Chromium with new (temporary) profile 2. Go to chrome://settings/advanced 3. Set Page zoom to 500% 4. For any page with content, open the Elements panel 5. Try to expand/shrink elements What happens: With the expanding/shrinking arrowheads zoomed 500%, but with code still at default zoom, it's extremely difficult to hit the arrowhead in the right spot to expand/shrink elements. Depending on the selected Page zoom level the actual hotspot may even fall completely outside the arrowhead graphic (to the left from it). What I expect to happen: For the arrowheads and the code to both follow the Page zoom setting or ignore it, and either way, for the arrowhead graphic to function as the actual hotspot for expanding/shrinking elements. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 889059] Re: Regression: Firefox enforces middlemouse.contentLoadURL to false.
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. I'm setting this bug to "Incomplete" as it's not seen any activity for some time. If this is still an issue when using a maintained release of Ubuntu then please let us know otherwise this bug report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time. (I'm unable to reproduce the issue using Firefox 73 and Ubuntu 18.04) Paul White [Ubuntu Bug Squad] ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/889059 Title: Regression: Firefox enforces middlemouse.contentLoadURL to false. Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When I've upgraded my ubuntu and got firefox 7.0.1 I've unexpectedly lost the possibility to paste URLs directly into browser window. That possibility is more than very useful as I don't have to do lot of things - exactly to load some URL into current non-empty tab I have to: 1) select URL; 2) press Ctrl+C; 3) click on URL line in browser; 4) select all in there; 5) press Ctrl+V; 6) press 'Enter'. With that possibility it's very-very simple: 1) select URL; 2) middle-click in browser window - yes, that's all. And now I cannot do that because config variable middlemouse.contentLoadURL changed it's default to false (and I think it's ubuntu-specific default, the same version 7.0.1 in debian-testing have it true as it always been) and it's even worse - even when I open about:config and toggle it, it works as it should be but as soon I close firefox and start it again that value is reset to false again and that means I should set it manually each time I start firefox! I've fixed that weird bug by downgrading firefox to version from natty. Fix it back, please! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1865128] Re: English US spelling dictionary appears in the languages' menu even though it's not installed
I'm confirming this issue as there does seem to be something not quite right with respect to dictionaries which are based on the English language. If I go to about:addons | Languages, I see English (GB) and English (CA) as being installed although I have disabled the Canadian option. If I spellcheck the text box into which I am currently typing I see the following variants of English available: Australia, Canada, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1862926] Re: Request for update: SANE 1.0.29
That you so much for updating SANE to 1.0.29 - I think scanning in Ubuntu is in a *much* better place now, including futureproofing via the AirPrint device support. :) Can't wait for the 20.04 release... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to sane-backends in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862926 Title: Request for update: SANE 1.0.29 Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in sane-backends package in Debian: Unknown Bug description: In Focal we are still a bit old-fashioned regarding scanning. We are still at the ancient SANE 1.0.27! That is really INSANE. Current version is 1.0.29 and it contains a very important new feature which will make hundreds (thousands?) of new scanners work with Ubuntu. This new feature is Apple AirScan support as a client. I have introduced a lot of nice printing stuff to support AirPrint, making lots of printers (practically all modern network printers) working, and all the multi-function devices under these (printer and scanner in one) do AirScan, so all these scanner will work with SANE 1.0.29 (if yours does not, it is a bug in SANE, please report). The AirScan support is provided by the new "escl" backend. supporting the eSCL protocol AirPrint is based on. The protocol uses HTTP and XML, so this works out-of-the-box if your printer is connected to the network, if it is connected via USB it work via IPP-over-USB using the ippusbxd package. Changes list from upstream: - Backends + adds an escl backend (theoretically supporting all AirPrint devices with a scan unit + adds support for 23 new scanner models via existing backends + significantly changes genesys and pixma backends + fixes bugs in canon_dr, fujitsu, hp3900, mustek_usb2, plustek and xerox_mfp backends + fixes all compiler warnings on Debian 10 (#120) + fixes portability issues for uClibc-ng and MacOS builds + adds support to record and replay USB I/O traffic + adds timestamps to debug logs debdiff attached. (those are supposed to be hyphens, yeah) The funny thing is that in gnome/terminal my layout is fully recognized, it-s just firefox and some other app that do not play nice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1865263 Title: [Focal] xkb-data 2.29-1 breaks AZERTY keyboard Status in xkeyboard-config: Unknown Status in x11-xkb-utils package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Running : Ubuntu GNOME session 20.04 up to date GNOME Shell + Mutter 3.35.91 Wayland session French language configuration (fr in kb config files) AZERTY keyboard Upgrading from 2.26-2ubuntu4 to 2.29-1 caused my French AZERTY keyboard to be QWERTY.
