[Desktop-packages] [Bug 269441] Re: Trash always full
This issue is a combination of Caja and trash applet from what I see, not necessarily only issue with trash applet. On MATE (Caja) in other distros like Debian, even LinuxMint, we get a dialog to empty trash from external drive to save space on that drive. If we agree trash is emptied and trash icon reflects status correctly. If we eject without emptying trash, the trash-icon stays full. However, on Ubuntu MATE there is no pop-up dialog unlike in other distros when there is deleted content; it just ejects the medium. UM is deviating from default behavior. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot at 2020-10-18 11-28-04.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/269441/+attachment/5423589/+files/Screenshot%20at%202020-10-18%2011-28-04.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269441 Title: Trash always full Status in Ubuntu MATE: Confirmed Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've seen other users having problems with that the trash appears empty even though it isn't. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1900168] Re: touchpad motion stops responding sporadically in 20.10 mate beta
I had similar issue on my HP laptop with elantech trackpad, where trackpad would not be responsive immediately after login. The buttons would still work, external (USB) mouse would also work. In my case the fix was to remove synaptics driver and let libinput handle trackpad. sudo apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-libinput I also created a symlink for 40-libinput.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d although it may not be needed (not present in UM 20.04). sudo mkdir -p /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d sudo ln -s /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ A reboot was required for changes to take place properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900168 Title: touchpad motion stops responding sporadically in 20.10 mate beta Status in Ubuntu MATE: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: a couple of minutes after boot, the touchpad stops responding (can't move the pointer, but the buttons are still responsive) Machine: Thinkpad T460s Kernel: 5.8.0-23-generic #24-Ubuntu OS: Mate 20.10 beta The Trackpoint (the nipple in the middle of the keyboard) and external mouse continue to function. Sometimes this is triggered by activity (launching or using gnome-settings; resizing a window; using Nautilus), sometimes, not. No session lasts more than five minutes. No combination of keystrokes will yield a terminal of any kind. The hang also interrupts System Monitor output, so no information regarding use of system resources is available. A hard system reset and consequent reboot yields a variety of outcomes. Sometimes, a normal gdm login. Sometimes, a black screen with an inverted-black mouse cursor/pointer/arrow that moves. Sometimes an entirely black screen. Sometimes, not even a hard system reset is sufficient and the system has to be booted into recovery mode, the existing driver removed, and another installed, before rebooting again. With nvidia-driver-440, fewer hangs but the monitor resolution can't be set to its capacity. I don't get it. GNOME hangs have been extensively documented for ten years. The drivers expressly support the hardware. This package is part of an Ubuntu LTS release. Is gnome-session intended to be serious, functional, production software subjected to rigorous and competent quality control? This is a serious question because I have a business to run and can't be sucked down some random technical rabbit hole just to do daily work. Is GNOME just a cute code project intended as a resume line for people looking for real work? What kind of quality control processes are in place that allow ancient failures, extensively reported, to persist? Is anyone at GNOME able and willing to put on their big-boy pants to get a reliable package suitable for production deployments, released? The command cat /var/log/syslog | grep gnome-session reveals fundamental errors in implementing systemd syntax and references/calls to nonexistent binaries. See the gnome-sesion units in /usr/lib/systemd/user. Maybe getting this right would be a first step to helping the developers understand the environment better. Please see man systemd. Source is, astonishingly, a hybrid of C and Javascript, which doubtless presents a QC nightmare. Has anyone given this any thought? What does it take to get this package to work today? - What is the procedure? What commands must be run? - Why doesn't GNOME simply include these commands in a script, just to make it easier? Does anyone there know how? - Why doesn't GNOME simply compile these commands into the package so it works in the first place? - Will a different graphics card matter? - Which one? - Why, if the drivers support the existing hardware, according to the documentation if not the function? Can this package be made to work today? If not, will this package be ready for production use in the next Ubuntu release (i.e., 20.04.02)? If not, what alternatives exist for production use? These are all serious questions. It is astonishing that this package has been released to the public. It getting out the door poses an existential reputational threat to the GNOME project. Any help in getting this package to work would be most gratefully appreciated. What did you expect to happen I expected the screen not to freeze. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1895486] Re: [media-keys] Fn media keys with lag slow/delay on Gnome with "Scroll Lock" keyboards
I can confirm the same problem and the "Scroll Lock" workaround worked here too. I'm using my system with English language but the keyboard is the BR-ABNT2. I tried with different drivers of Nvidia and with Noveau, no difference. I'm using ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895486 Title: [media-keys] Fn media keys with lag slow/delay on Gnome with "Scroll Lock" keyboards Status in GNOME Shell: Unknown Status in xkeyboard-config package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Bug description: I use Ubuntu 20.04.1. After some use, I noticed a delay when using keyboard media controls (for example: increase volume audio). The first time I push these key Gnome hangs for a short time before display the action on the screen. (This problem is still happening in Ubuntu 18.04 too. Even worse some times, the system crashes when using media keys.) For some reason, my Gnome freezes when using Fn keys, or when I try to use two keyboards. A friend of mine pointed to me that it occurs when switching to a keyboard layout that has Scroll Lock enabled, so I disabled it in the X11 keyboard layout file for my language, and it solved the problem. A workaround to solve the problem is: 1) Opened the keyboard layout file for my language, in my case: sudo nano /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/br 2) Commented the line: modifier_map Mod3 { Scroll_Lock }; 3) Logged out and logged in again or run command setxkbmap. These steps are specific for the Brazilian Portuguese ABNT2 Layout and may not work for other layouts, but it can help you find a similar solution. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1829221] Re: second, dead, mouse pointer left on screen after login, x11 session
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1873052 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873052 Travis solution worked however after the next reboot the problem reappears. Any idea how to fix it permanently? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1829221 Title: second, dead, mouse pointer left on screen after login, x11 session Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This seems to have become repeatable, and applies even on the first login session immediately after booting the computer. I don't know if this is the right package to report against; another possible culprit: gdm: When I log into the default "Ubuntu" session (ie: on xorg), gdm's mouse pointer remains on screen during the screen blank, and after the gnome desktop comes up. It stays on the top just like you'd expect of the mouse pointer, but it's immobile and unresponsive. It's left at the same position on the screen that it was while using gdm, and is the same size as it was in gdm (ie: gdm is not scaled, but gnome session desktop scaled to 150% - the *working* in-session mouse pointer is also 150% larger than gdm's dead one). It looks like gdm and gnome are running in the same x11 session? Seeing as the mouse pointer stays solid *during* the transition from gdm into the gnome desktop. Not even a flicker. It's almost as if we're trying to have smooth transitions for these sorts of things, which is good of course, but maybe is a bug in that? It disappears when I log into a Wayland session, it appears only to affect x11 sessions. I've taken to just moving the mouse pointer to the far bottom right corner of the screen before logging in, so at least it's not very intrusive. There are a few reports of similar in askubuntu from a few years back, but with no helpful or applicable solution. eg: https://askubuntu.com/questions/521241/i-have-two-cursors-on-my-screen-one-of-which-is-always-on-top-and-will-never-mo https://askubuntu.com/questions/598096/14-04-second-mouse-pointer-stuck-in-middle-of-the-screen To answer the points made there, the xinput --list output is shown below. Executing that command and rebooting makes no difference. In the Displays Prefs there is no second "Unknown" display to disable. (The machine has precisely one display, and that's all Settings sees. It's a desktop, not a laptop, and it only has an AMD Vega integrated graphics. It also has only one mouse.) rachel@twilight:~$ xinput --list ⎡ Virtual core pointerid=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ HID 04b4:3003 Mouse id=9[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ HID 04b4:3003 Consumer Control id=11 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 Mouseid=15 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 Consumer Control id=16 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 Consumer Control id=17 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Buttonid=6[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Buttonid=7[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HID 04b4:3003 id=8[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HID 04b4:3003 System Controlid=10 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HID 04b4:3003 Keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Dell Dell AC511 USB SoundBarid=13 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 id=14 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 System Control id=18 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Eee PC WMI hotkeys id=19 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HID 04b4:3003 Consumer Control id=20 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 Consumer Control id=21 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Microsoft Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0 Consumer Control id=22 [slave keyboard (3)] (I don't know what's with the duplicated MS Nano Transceiver Consumer Control entries) I thought of a couple of things to try after starting to write this ticket but didn't want to lose the ticket in progress, so will add comments if they show up anything. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1890869] Re: [Clevo N350TW with Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH cAVS] no sound from speakers and headphones
Now I wrote a script like this (short form): echo auto > /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:1f.3/power/control echo 1 > /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:1f.3/remove echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan When I boot LINUX the script runs as root in a loop until the ALC892 is recognized. But the ALC892 is only recognized after I hear a crack from the speakers. Sometimes after 5 loops, sometimes after very many loops, sometimes never. Always after a crack. It doesn't matter whether the laptop runs on a battery or a charger. Meanwhile, I believe that the problem has nothing to do with ALSA or PULSEAUDIO.
