Title:
USB DAC/AMP unselectable from Sound Settings and crashes alsamixer

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am experiencing the same issue with the same device described in
  this report comment: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-
  driver/+bug/1267866/comments/26

The device works as expected with Windows 10 and macOS no drivers
required. However, the device is not an option from Ubuntu's sound
settings. It is visible in alsamixer, however, it crashes immediately
upon selection with 'cannot load mixer controls: Broken pipe'.

Here's some more debug information. Let me know if there is anymore I
can provide or feel free to redirect me if there is another place this
  is better reported.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2021-03-12 Thread Shatadru Banerjee
I did not mention brightness issue. With 5.11.3 the brightness does not
work flawlessly however there are more serious problems. 1. External
monitor not detected via HDMI, 2. still the wifi is not stable, 3.
cannot switch to nvidia.

  The latest kernel tree
  (https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git)
has the complete solution to fix this bug. So we can expect kernel
v5.11 to fix this issue without any additional work.

Before the release of v5.11, you are suggested to use #189 to save your
touchpad. Note that for distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora, the pinctrl-amd
driver is built into the initramfs. So you have to rebuild the initramfs after
replacing the old module with new one.
On Fedora, run `sudo dracut --force`; On ubuntu, run `sudo update-initramfs
-u`.

The complete solution is three patches,
   - 47a0001436352c9853d72bf2071e85b316d688a2 ("pinctrl: amd: remove debounce
filter setting in IRQ type setting")
   - 06abe8291bc31839950f7d0362d9979edc88a666 ("pinctrl: amd: fix incorrect way
to disable debounce filter")
   - 8dcb7a15a585b6d0fee15751ce11d7a68cfedd56 ("gpiolib: acpi: Take into
account debounce settings")

The first two patches has reached the stable tree. If the last one is
also backported to LTS kernel, you won't need to install kernel 5.11.
But I don't know when this will happen.

  Hello

The MSFT touchpad of this Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 laptop is not reacting at
all (pointer and click never move when touchpad is touched). This has been
reported by other users in various websites, with various linux systems
including other Ubuntu systems, but I saw no launchpad bug so I post one.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1813441] Re: Can no longer drag and drop files between desktop and applications

2021-03-12 Thread Vladislav K. Valtchev
Guys, this is a *BRUTAL* regression. It's NOT acceptable to break the
desktop experience like that in a LTS release because "the legacy code
was unmaintainable". Either replace the legacy code with a mature, well-
written extension which works *exactly* the same way, or continue to
maintain the old dirty (whatever) code, until you have a VALID
replacement.

You're *under-estimating* the impact of such a bug. Desktop icons have
been "a thing" for the last 30 years or so and are the first thing any
user sees. And I'm not talking only about non-technical people: I'm
talking about people like me that have been using Linux since 1998. Now,
not only arrow keys and drag'n'drop don't work, but even just creating
or deleting a file on the desktop causes an ugly refresh. Sometimes,
just moving an icon causes the whole gnome shell to crash.

I was hoping this bug would be fixed ASAP after the 20.04 release or, at
most, for the 20.10 release, but still nothing. And, no, I don't wanna
use dirty workarounds which will break on upgrade. I'd like an
officially-supported fix.

For instabilities like these "the world" stopped using KDE 4 and
switched to GNOME. Even MANY years later now, with KDE perfectly stable
etc., people still use GNOME. Do you really want to loose the desktop
segment? People will stop using Ubuntu for things like that.

This bug's "Importance" should be: "VERY HIGH", not "Medium".

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846423]

2021-03-12 Thread Bacam+mozbz
I've been poking around a little and it appears to me that the parsing
error was introduced in the fix for bug 1555646. The fix backported a
commit to the upstream libical to do the type validation, but the
libical version was changed shortly afterwards to use a generated table,
so they won't have noticed that the DURATION case for TRIGGER was
missing. Those changes are quite invasive, but simply adding DURATION
to the type check might be enough to fix the current problem.

Chrome uses xdg-open to open folders. Looks like open_xfce doesn't check

Mesa 21.0.0 will be released soon, and we still want it in 21.04. It's
been in Debian experimental since rc1. The packaging also migrates it
  to use llvm 12.

The risks involve graphical issues or even crashes when running more
intense OpenGL/Vulkan apps like games. Running a desktop is a simple
use-case and should work fine across the board. Upstream gitlab has a
fairly extensive CI for various drivers, while Intel tests on their
own CI. This means that any showstoppers should be shaken out already.

We will be able to pull maybe two point-releases before hirsute is
frozen, and then push more as an SRU.

I've tested 21.0.0-rc's on Intel and AMD (RX 5700) and the latter too
  with some games, all good.

packages for hirsute are available on ppa:canonical-x/x-staging

Note that migrating to llvm 12 can be done later, and use llvm 11 for
now until 12.0 is released (is at rc3 now).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1918952] [NEW] freerdp2 memory leak when using USB redirection

2021-03-12 Thread Robert Orso
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
freerdp2-x11 (2.2.0+dfsg1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1)

Exec=xfreerdp /multimon +toggle-fullscreen /audio-mode:1
/usb:id,dev:046d:0826

With the logitech camera active within the RDP session to a remote
Windows 10 PC, the local Linux host loses about 10MB memory per
second(!) filling my 32GB RAM within about an hour and then crashes the
remote Windows session.

closing/reconnecting the RDP session frees memory and starts growing
again quickly.

No problem when camera is off. Memory leak is only when the camera is
active.

Bug description:
Upstream Thunderbird version 78.2.2 should be a candidate for
  backporting to stable Ubuntu releases.

I've successfully built 78.2.1 against both with forcing nodejs
version (20.04, 18.04) and disabling AV1 support due to too old nasm
  (18.04). Attaching debdiffs here.

I've used Remmina for quite a while and been fairly pleased with it.
After upgrading to 13.04 however the colors coming from my Win7
machine are all messed up. Its as if they were inverted or otherwise
skewed. White is white and black is black, but the "Start" button
looks weird and sun bursty and most of the colors just seem wrong.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574186] Re: applications-development icon is partly black

According to migrated upstream bug

  applications-development icon is partly black

Status in librsvg package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
The issue appeared after upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04, the icon was right
in 15.10. I'm using Ubuntu Mate but the issue is likely indpendant of
  the DE.

When displaying the applications-development.svg icon (from
categories), either in Caja (Nautilus fork) or the Applications menu,
the silver part is black instead of the normal appearance. It only
  appears with sizes 16, 22, 24 & 32; sizes 48, 64 & 128 appear fine.

The weird things is that it doesn't happen if I open the icons in
Inkscape or display them in a HTML page. It only happens in the file
manager and Apps menu (and probably other places I haven't been able
to check, like menus and such). Might be a Gtk rendering issue rather
  than the icons themselves.

I attach a montage that shows the black-ish icons.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1897962] Re: Out of Memory Error with Brother DCP-J7720W

2021-03-12 Thread Simon Iremonger
I can further confirm that this escl buggy driver affects other
scanners, e.g. Epson XP-830 just to name *one* but there are endless
Escl network printers/scanners these days.

Using the PPA:-
https://launchpad.net/~sane-project/+archive/ubuntu/sane-release
version 1.0.32 *does* work a lot better!.

I have really come to the conclusion that the sane-release PPA is very
backwards-compatible with all the existing software-tools, simple-scan,
xsane, skanlite, libreoffice, xscanimage, gimp, gscan2pdf, ... in all
cases I have tested, the 1.0.32 sane-release ppa version of sane
backends works the same or better as the focal 1.0.29 version without
requiring any software to be re-compiled. 'gscan2pdf' is notably more
functional than simple-scan in terms of being able to auto-rotate back-
sides of scanned auto-feed pages.

The trouble comes, helping users without having to do all sorts of
searching and having to 'find out' bugs hard way Can a new point-
release of focal provide sane-backends and sane-airscan backported,
well-tested packages?

As to when to get users ipp-usb (or not) installed, is another matter
entirely, that also matters. For some ipp-usb makes the scanning work
well, for other cases not, needs to be NOT running to support legacy
scanner drivers!... I suspect for 22.04 ipp-usb should be provided by
default.

Title:
Out of Memory Error with Brother DCP-J7720W

Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Installed XSane from the repository but when I scan the viewer screen is
blank and if I try to save I get "Error during save: out of memory"
I believe that escl driver in 20.04 sane-backends is a problem and it is
related to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=962539
sane-backends 1.0.31 should be considered for focal-backports and that if
possible, escl driver could be individually SRU (Stable release update) in
focal-updates.

  ppa:sane-project/sane-git fixes the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1918880] Re: pulseaudio threaded-ml suspend issue

2021-03-12 Thread kailoran
"; realtime-scheduling = yes" is commented away in
/etc/pulse/daemon.conf (this is a very fresh install of 20.04 and I
haven't customized much). Should I enable this?

Either way, I'll try to exercise suspend and keep an eye out for this
issue happening again. I tried looking around but didn't find any
similar reports.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1903986] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 freezes with remmina in full-screen

2021-03-12 Thread grofaty
Daniel, on Feb 2 I have changed to "Ubuntu on Wayland" at login as you
suggested and up till now I have had no issues with freezing.

But yesterday after few months I needed to record my screen and found
out that SimpleScreenRecorder program does not capture video if wayland
is used, so I switched back to X session selecting "Ubuntu" session at
login recorded screen. Today I have just forgotten to changed back to
wayland. And the result? Today using X session and Ubuntu freezed and
the only way to get it back was hard reset. So your theory of my problem
being related to "X session" on my laptop may have some true in it.

I just wanted to inform you about this. I am switching back to wayland
now.

I am running 3 monitors under wayland.
2x 1440p monitors at 1x scale (one of these is my primary display)
  1x 4k laptop at 2x scale

The majority apps seem to not get correct scaling on the 2x display.
gnome-control-center is the one that seems to work correctly. Things
like chrome, firefox and most other apps (which work fine when only
using the single 4k) are all tiny on the laptop display.

Its the same in reverse also, if I set the 4k screen as primary most
windows (again except gnome-control-centre) are too large on the 1550p
  screens.

Multiple monitors with mixed DPI not scaling Xwayland apps correctly

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running 3 monitors under wayland.
2x 1440p monitors at 1x scale (one of these is my primary display)
  1x 4k laptop at 2x scale

The majority apps seem to not get correct scaling on the 2x display.
gnome-control-center is the one that seems to work correctly. Things
like chrome, firefox and most other apps (which work fine when only
using the single 4k) are all tiny on the laptop display.

Its the same in reverse also, if I set the 4k screen as primary most
windows (again except gnome-control-centre) are too large on the 1550p
  screens.

Title:
please sync qpdf 10.3.1-1 from debian experimental

Status in qpdf package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
10.3.1 includes a very small but important fix to a bug that would
cause qpdf 10.3.0 to reject certain valid files when splitting pages.
I also added a check for exceptions that will make future bugs of this
type (if any) just generate warnings instead of blocking the whole
operations in hopes of not needing to do any emergency releases any
time soon even if this wasn't the "last bug."

Regression: Onscreen Keyboard Backspace, Enter and Capitalize do not
  work

Status in gjs package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Title pretty much says it all: I'm testing Ubuntu Hirsute (21.04), fully
upgraded as of today (Gnome-shell 3.38.3) and the osk keys for Backspace, Enter
and Capitalize as well as for collapsing the keyboard do not work. Pressing
them just does nothing.
