[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1811023] Re: Xorg aborts with ../../../../dix/privates.c:384: dixRegisterPrivateKey: Assertion `!global_keys[type].created' failed.

2021-04-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears this is the top crasher of Xorg in 20.04 right now:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/?release=Ubuntu%2020.04&package=xorg-
server&period=month

Unfortunately bug 1863689 prevents us from using the link of the top
crasher:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/bucket/?id=/usr/lib/xorg/Xorg%3AXorg%3A%20../../../../dix/privates.c%3A384%3A%20dixRegisterPrivateKey%3A%20Assertion%20%60%21global_keys%5Btype%5D.created%27%27%20failed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924684] [NEW] package libreoffice-common (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/soffice', which is also in package openoffice-debian-menus 4.

2021-04-16 Thread Glen Cooper
Public bug reported:

Previously I somehow managed to manually install libreoffice. I've been
using it for months now and want to keep using it. Recently within the
Spreadsheet app ("OpenOffice Calc"), it said that an update was
available. Tried to update within the app itself, but that failed so I
left it as-is at least for a week or more.

Today when I did a "sudo apt upgrade -y", that command is now erroring
out with unmet dependencies, something to do with libreoffice-core. I
haven't figured out what to do about it yet.

See https://pastebin.com/B4TKtbwp

I'm unsure what to do about this. Please email me at
g...@glencooper.com if you have any suggestions.

At the very minimum I would like to keep my system up-to-date with
making it so the "sudo apt upgrade -y" command doesn't error out.

Thanks!

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1921187] Re: Illegal instruction at start − sse3 required on i386

2021-04-16 Thread Risto Suominen
You can install all those three packages at once by specifying the
required version:

sudo apt-get install chromium-browser=65.0.3325.181-0ubuntu1
chromium-codecs-ffmpeg=65.0.3325.181-0ubuntu1
chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra=65.0.3325.181-0ubuntu1

Then you can freeze these versions:

sudo apt-mark hold chromium-browser chromium-codecs-ffmpeg
chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra

  [ Test case ]

  1. Resize the terminal to use half the screen (using CMD+LEFT)
  2. switch it to fullscreen (F11) and back (F11)
  3. Repeat this some number of times ensure we don't end up in a loop with
 100% CPU usage.
  4. Ensure that it's still possible to get window focus and the UI is
responsive.

  [ Regression potential ]

Events are ignored for windows which are still visible.

O.k. it is an old Lenovo thinkpad T410. However, in 18.04, 19.04 and 19.10 I
did face these problems. The sometimes I have to wait 10 seconds to see if a
window reacts or not. It is hard to use.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924251] Re: Embedded browser display corruption under Wayland on Pi desktop

The console output mentions WebKit and GL so it seems this is no normal
GTK app.

Bug description:
On the hirsute Pi desktop, under a wayland session with the "full" KMS
overlay enabled, and "kms-modifiers" present in the org.gnome.mutter
/experimental-features, the body of a window containing an HTML
renderer (e.g. help text or a login page) displays corruption.

These reproduction cases may not be entirely reliable given that
*some* pages appear to render correctly, but I'll include a couple in
the hopes of making it reliably reproducible:

  1. Open the Lights Off game
  2. Select "Help" from the menu
  3. In the help window that appears, select any link

"Basics", "Rules", and "Strategy" all reliably reproduce the issue for
me, but "Help Translate" doesn't so you may need to click around some
links until the corruption appears -- however, once it does even
navigating back to the prior page which rendered happily now displays
  the same corruption.

  Another reproduction case:

  1. Open the Settings application
  2. Select the Online Applications option from the left
  3. Select the Google entry in the list
  4. The login window that appears always displays corruption for me

The Microsoft option always reliably corrupts for me, but the Facebook
one doesn't so again I wonder how reproducible this may be for others
(might be worth trying several options if the first doesn't display
  corruption).

The corruption appears in the form of "shredded" content as if a
horizontal stride is set incorrectly somewhere, but only appears in
the body of the window; the window decorations are unaffected. I'll
attach a screenshot of the corrupted help window to illustrate.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924251] Re: Embedded browser display corruption under Wayland on Pi desktop

2021-04-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The same bug occurs in weston so that's some good news that it's not a
mutter bug.

The console output mentions GDK is unable to create a GL context and is
falling back to glReadPixels. And that's exactly what the corruption
looks like -- an incorrect stride or pixel format with glReadPixels.
That makes it a GDK bug.

  1. Resize the terminal to use half the screen (using CMD+LEFT)
  2. switch it to fullscreen (F11) and back (F11)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1923311] Re: nautilus crash when creating symlink

2021-04-16 Thread Christian Rauch
I have the ddebs sources added:
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com focal main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com focal-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com focal-proposed main restricted universe multiverse

But the dbgsym version does not match the package version:

$ apt list nautilus -a
nautilus/focal-updates,now 1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1 amd64 [installiert]
nautilus/focal 1:3.36.1.1-1ubuntu2 amd64

$ apt list nautilus-dbgsym -a
nautilus-dbgsym/focal 1:3.36.1.1-1ubuntu2 amd64

After nautilus has been updated to version "1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1" the
-dbgsym package stayed at version "1:3.36.1.1-1ubuntu2". So I cannot
install "nautilus-dbgsym" and run gdb with the debug symbols to check
where it crashes.

Anyway, this issue is pretty easy reproducible on my side and occurs
every time.

Weird, well you can get the dbgsym packages from launchpad on
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/1:3.36.3-0ubuntu1/+build/19437394
and dpkg -i install those. Could you do that and get a stacktrace? (or
submit the report generated in /var/crash)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1923311] Re: nautilus crash when creating symlink

2021-04-16 Thread Christian Rauch
After installing that dbgsym package, I still do not get a backtrace. It
just exits with "[Inferior 1 (process 116937) exited with code 01]" so
maybe it does not crash but the failed assertion makes it just quit?
Also, there is nothing in "/var/crash" which is another indicator that
the process just exits, but does not crash.

I found the upstream issue at
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/1303. There it is
reported that this is a Wayland-only issue and I can indeed verify that
this does not happen on X11.

2021-04-16 Thread Eric Van Horn
In my original bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-shell/+bug/1924625) I was asked to remove many extensions;
however, many of those extensions are ones that I installed at one time
but have since removed and they do not appear under ~/.local/share
/gnome-shell/extensions/.

>From https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/+bug/1924625/+attachment/5488541/+files/GsettingsChanges.txt it is
clear that something is still reporting them as being installed. Does
this indicate that there are remnants of these extensions somewhere else
on my machine?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1923090] Re: autopkgtest fails in hirsute on armhf

2021-04-16 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I built firefox with the fix above in a PPA and ran the autopkgtests in
the official infrastructure, and I can confirm that they now pass on
armhf.

The fix will be released with the next firefox stable update, version
88.0, due out next week.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1923632] Re: Screen flickering

2021-04-16 Thread Tim Passingham
I have the same problem on that kernel (ubuntu 20.10), and on the update
to 5.8.0-50.55. I have gone back to 5.8.0-48.54 and it has stabilised.
I get all sorts of different effects. Blocks of text being partially
blank, whole menu boxes being blank, and so on. This usually happened
after the system has been on for a few hours, so I initially suspected
hardware, but reverting to 5.8.0-48 fixed it.

The worst effected are browsers (Firefox, Chrome and Brave) possibly
only when not full screen, but parts of the application icon toolbar and
others parts flicker on and off as well.

I tried wayland, but it was no better, so an x.org update may not help
(I can't see one available at present)

I'm using "Intel® HD Graphics 4600 (HSW GT2) graphics", on "Intel® Core™
i7-4770T CPU @ 2.50GHz × 8". No special drivers. Monitor connected via
HDMI.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1921187] Re: Illegal instruction at start − sse3 required on i386

2021-04-16 Thread Olivier Tilloy
While it is possible to downgrade chromium to a version that will run on
a Pentium M processor, it's highly discouraged to run such an old
version that has known security problems.

It's unfortunate that upstream has decided to drop support for these
processors, and unfortunately it's not something that we can easily
undo, because they will make increasing use of SSE3 features.

I'm changing the status to "Won't Fix" accordingly. I suggest switching
to a different browser instead of using an old version of chromium.

** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1886059] Re: gnome-shell crashed with assertion failure "!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost" [xcb_io.c:260]

2021-04-16 Thread Eric Van Horn
This issue appears to be resolved for me.

I used `apt purge gnome-shell-extensions` to remove gnome-shell-
extensions and noticed that 'ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com', 'ubuntu-
d...@ubuntu.com', and 'desktop-icons@csoriano' remained in /usr/share
/gnome-shell/extensions/. I manually removed these extensions,
reinstalled gnome-shell-extensions, and rebooted my machine, and I have
not had a crash since. Note that I did not remove any extensions from
.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions, although there is still a
discrepancy between the installed extensions and what is listed in
`gsettings get org.gnome.shell enabled-extensions` and `gsettings get
org.gnome.shell disabled-extensions`. Should this be corrected by just
using `gsettings set`, or should this be updated automatically?

If there is any more information that I can provide to help troubleshoot
this problem for others with this same problem, please let me know.

Thanks!

running applications (like alt-tab) and a text window appears. I can
choose from the running applications or write a command into the text
window. After I chose an application or press ESC all this disappear
and I can do my thing.

  Since trying 21.04 sometimes this
  1. does not appear properly - there is no visible text window
  2. does not disappear - despite what I click on or what keys do I press this
never disappear so I can not use my running applications or start anything new
even from the menu.

I have to log out and in to break this.

Disabling my gnome-shell extensions or using xorg instead of wayland
  does not helps.

Since upgrading this morning this happens every time I press Super,
not just occasionally, thus making my desktop unusable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1215882]

2021-04-16 Thread Bernhard Riegler
I completely agree with jonwestburne
CRITICAL because the user does not know the email was not sent.

I had again a server BUSY condition.
thunderbird version 78.7.1(64-bit) on GNU/Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS platform.
popup "load too high (#4.3.0)" and then the email is in 'sent' folder of my
local Filesystem Archive.
my automatic "CC to sender" proves that it was not processed by server. I did
not receive my CC.

The UI, however, gives no indication of failure and closes the compose window
after the apparent successful submission to the smtp server.

If the user has not configured a Sent folder this results in data loss. Even
if the user has configured a sent folder, he receives no indication that the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1317249] Re: Tool for export to keepass2 database

2021-04-16 Thread Paolo "UnixMan" Saggese
To date, this is the only thing which I have found which is able to dump
the contents of gnome-keyring:

https://github.com/mnagel/gnome-keyring-dumper

better than nothing, but not exactly what's requested.

I believe that the ability to import AND export its contents from/to a
file in a few different standard formats (CSV, XML, etc) is an essential
feature for any password manager.

Tool for export to keepass2 database

Status in seahorse package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
It would be nice to be able to use the passwords stored in seahorse in
other password store facilities, e.g. a keepass2 database. Currently
the passwords are "lost" if one wants to switch the password storage
mechanism (e.g. because keepass2 provides better synchronization with
Android phones) in the sense that one has to copy and paste passwords
by hand or write a script to do the transformation based on
application internals and its data format which is too much effort for
  the average user.

An export function in the kdbx/KeePass2 XML format would be great.

I'm referring to seahorse 3.10.2 running on Ubuntu 14.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1924684] Re: package libreoffice-common (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/soffice', which is also in package openoffice-debian-menus 4.1.

Bug description:
Previously I somehow managed to manually install libreoffice. I've
been using it for months now and want to keep using it. Recently
within the Spreadsheet app ("OpenOffice Calc"), it said that an update
was available. Tried to update within the app itself, but that failed
so I left it as-is at least for a week or more.

  Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1643163] Re: Wifi doesn't work after resume, fixed by forcing scan

Wifi doesn't work after resume, fixed by forcing scan

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Often after resuming from suspend, my laptop (Samsung series 9) is
disconnected from the wifi and it doesn't seem to reconnect. Network
manager seems confused; it displays that it is connected, but it shows
the wrong access point (i.e. one of my neighbour's access points that
I don't even have the password for).

Running iwlist scan manually fixes the problem almost immediately and
network-manager starts showing the correct state (connecting, then
  connected to the right AP).

Very similar to bug 1332904 but apport recommended filing diags on a
  fresh bug report.

Wifi card appears to be "Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino
Advanced-N 6235 (rev 24)" according to lspci.

Description:
I have slide shows with embeded video files from previous versions of
LibreOffice / Impress and they all worked well. If I play the video files with
Ubuntu 18.04 and LibreOffice 6.0.3.2 they show flickering white stripes. the
stripes are about 1 centimeter wide and move up and down in the picture of the
video.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Embed a video file in a slide show.
2. Play the slide show / the video.

Actual Results:
The video plays but shows a disrupted picture with whiteish flickering stripes.

Expected Results:
The video should play as it is in a video player whithout a disrupted picture.

Reproducible: Always

Two questions (three maybe).
Types of video content and when you say from older versions of libreoffice, how
old?

I tried with a couple of Impress files made with 5.4.7, with 3 different videos
types mp4 file with mp4 H.264, ogv with Theora and webm with VP8.

They worked without a problem under 5.4.7 and 6.0.5, using Ubuntu 18.04.

I got some older ones in a backup, 4.x versions, but I am interested in
the video type in the file giving you problems.

Thanks, setting this to needinfo for the moment.

It worked under Ubuntu 16.04 I can't remember which LibreOffice version

It doesn't matter what kind of video files as far as I figered out it
happens to any kind of file. I uploaded an examaple here:
https://ch.owncube.com/index.php/s/VaTbKwx9UkzKrEA

In makind the example I figured out, that it happens to new
presentations too. So it happens not only to old presentations but to
new ones as well.

IDK - that test file actually crashed both 6.0.5 and 6.1 in my
environment.

Extracted the media files, the two .flv files work fine stand alone, but
the .mpeg crashes the media player in my OS every time (not just in
Impress).

Speaking of which if I create a new Impress file and drop in one of the
.flv files the new impress file works fine and the video plays fine.

If I try to add the .mpeg file, using 6.0.5 than Impress hangs.

Also, trying to check the properties of the Billy Elliot.mpeg file
crashed gnome 'Files' twice.

so, it is looking like the mpeg file is the culprit and the OS support
changed.

The .mpeg plays fine in Impress slideshow for me. No stripes, no crash.

2021-04-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

wget https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040s2.pdf
launch evince
open f1040s2.pdf
Fill in example numbers in lines 4 and 10.
Save As... test-1040s2.pdf

On the same Ubuntu-18.04 machine, in both xpdf and evince, all of test-
1040s2.pdf displays as expected, specifically including the form
entries.

Copied f1040s2.pdf to a (virtual) machine running MS-Windows-10, and opened in
Adobe Reader DC 2021.001.20142 .
Expected: display correctly, specifically the form entries in lines 4 and 10.
