[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1926863] Re: gjs eats all available RAM and Freezes Computer

2021-05-08 Thread Arden Goldberg
I'm not quite certain what that means in this context, is a reproducer a
script meant to recreate the conditions of the bug?

I have temporarily solved the issue by noting that it seemed to begin
when the desktop was first drawn on screen, and running "sudo apt remove
gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng" and "sudo apt remove gnome-
shell-extension-desktop-icons". This is a bit inconvenient, but
functional.

Multi monitor bug opening windows (not responsive to input in the

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
When i open a window like Spotify or GitKracken, that should open in
my second monitor (because i always use them there), Ubuntu draws it
in my main monitor, but, if i try to move it, resize or press an area
of the window, it selects the window that is under it (like if the
windows does not logically exist there). If i click on the window
title bar, it sometimes appears on the second monitor and is resized
(also if i press the minimize button or others). Sometimes the window
is not responding until i do not minimize it from the dock and re-
maximize it. Once it does that everything works well.

  Dear Community,

I have problem with Network Manager GUI. On Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and
Lubuntu 21.04 when I click left mouse button on the icon of network

the mouse is working on this icon. I don't know if it problem with
LXQt or with all Desktop Environments on focal. I checked and on
Fedora 34 Spins this works normally and like we knot this disto also
use LXQt so I think that this is not problem with LXQt itself. Can you
  fix it?

My distro: Lubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (without updates, clear iso downloaded
from ubuntu mirror and booted for testing)

P.S. I can't report bug with apport because my wi-fi didn't work on
live session because I can't remember my password.

  Yours faithfully,
  Piotr

and didn't have any issues with regard this bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927831] Re: Problem with Network Manager GUI on LXQt environment (Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and Lubuntu 21.04)

2021-05-08 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better

I tested for this on hirsute (21.04)
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
(a QA-test install with almost no changes; only those required to confirm valid
QA install & working system)

Also use current impish live (QA-test)
- sony vaio svp112a1cw (i5-9400u, 4gb, intel haswell-ULT)
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
(the sony has wifi only, dell has ethernet only)

and could not re-create this. I also don't recall seeing it either on
any of the boxes I QA-test with sorry (on focal thru hirsute cycles
which is over hundreds of tests)

I suspect the issue is specific to your hardware, thus apport-collect is
required. I realize you said you cannot apport-collect currently, but I
can't see how this can be worked on given the current lack of networking
hardware detail provided.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1927831

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Problem with Network Manager GUI on LXQt environment (Lubuntu 20.04

Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Dear Community,

I have problem with Network Manager GUI. On Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and
Lubuntu 21.04 when I click left mouse button on the icon of network
manager this didn't work and window is not showed. Only right click of
the mouse is working on this icon.

  Yours faithfully,
  Piotr

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927840] [NEW] [SRU] Update to 1.68.1

2021-05-08 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

That's the current GNOME stable update, including many memory fixes
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/commits/1.68.1

[ Test case ]

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

GNOME Shell and its components should continue working, as well other
gjs based apps like polari or gnome-weather and maps

[ Regression potential ]

The way the objects are handled when (un)reffed from other threads or after
(and during) disposition changed a lot, so it could both cause:
 1. Leaks (memory waste in fact) if objects are kept referenced by gjs and not
released when nothing else
need them
 2. New crashes or dead-locks when objects are (un)reffed from other threads

** Affects: gjs (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium
 Assignee: Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0)
 Status: Fix Committed

** Tags: upgrade-software-version

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754125] Re: Rhythmbox stays running in the background after quit

2021-05-08 Thread rduke15
This is a really ridiculous bug. In Ubuntu 20.04, you close the window,
and the music continues playing and there is no way to stop it! There is
no tray icon or anything where you can tell it to quit once you have
closed the main window.

Workaround for now:

pkill rhythmbox

or

Search for rythmbox in "Activities", open it, and then select "Stop
& Quit" in the menu.

Note that even "sudo apt purge rhythmbox" doesn't stop it playing !

If I start a video or audio file in VLC player and select the VLC options:
  Audio:
  Output module: ALSA Audio Output
Device: bcm2835 Headphones, bcm2835 Headphones Default Audio Device

Then the playback speed seems to be normal but the "electric" crackling in
voices remains.
And system-wide the problem persists, too.

2021-05-08 Thread Lars Martin Hambro
Why is disable the facebook provider since it's current not working? its
because facebook did not want to use it on linux or safety issue?

Because android and windows 10 support instgram and facebook apps?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927833] [NEW] Canon MX530 printer not recognised by CUPS

2021-05-08 Thread JWC
Public bug reported:

Trying to install a Canon MX530 on Ubuntu. None of the standard

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927832] [NEW] static effect on HDMI out

2021-05-08 Thread magowiz
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 21.04
Release:21.04

package version : kernel-image 5.11.0-16-generic

what I expect to happen : to show my desktop correctly on second hdmi monitor
what happens : static effect like shown in attached photo

Since upgrade to hirsute (21.04) from groovy (20.10) my hdmi port on my
graphic card stopped to work correctly and started to display static
effect on second monitor, as you can see from the attached photo.

Here it is mine videocards:
Code:

$ lspci | grep VGA
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250]
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Park
[Mobility Radeon HD 5430/5450/5470]

I was able to test it with 3 different kernels :
Code:

5.12.1-051201-generic # last mainline kernel
5.11.0-16-generic # last official kernel from hirsute
5.8.0-50-generic # probably a old kernel still there from groovy

Only the older one, 5.8.0-50-generic was working correctly with dual
monitor with no issues.

Kind regards

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927831] [NEW] Problem with Network Manager GUI on LXQt environment (Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and Lubuntu 21.04)

2021-05-08 Thread Piotr
Public bug reported:

Dear Community,

I have problem with Network Manager GUI. On Lubuntu 20.04 LTS and
Lubuntu 21.04 when I click left mouse button on the icon of network
manager this didn't work and window is not showed. Only right click of
the mouse is working on this icon. I don't know if it problem with LXQt
or with all Desktop Environments on focal. I checked and on Fedora 34
Spins this works normally and like we knot this disto also use LXQt so I
think that this is not problem with LXQt itself. Can you fix it?

My distro: Lubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (without updates, clear iso downloaded
from ubuntu mirror and booted for testing)

P.S. I can't report bug with apport because my wi-fi didn't work on live
session because I can't remember my password.

Yours faithfully,
Piotr

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 253167] Re: Rhythmbox sort by "Album Artist" for guest/compilations

2021-05-08 Thread Sylvhem
The current issue on GNOME’s GitLab. It was previously known as bug #632841 on
GNOME’s Bugzilla (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=632841).
Bug #318579 has also been transferred to GitLab

the current discussion.

Rhythmbox sort by "Album Artist" for guest/compilations

Status in Rhythmbox:
  Unknown
Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in rhythmbox package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

For guest artists on an album or compilations Apple allows definition
of an album artist and artist for each track. Rhythmnbox only allows
browsing by track artists so many artists appear listed with only one
  track.

  Example, Red Book by Texas:

  1. 036 - Texas
  2. Getaway - Texas
  3. Can't Resist - Texas
  4. What About Us - Texas
  5. Cry - Texas
  6. Sleep - Texas featuring Paul Buchanan
  7. Get Down Tonight - Texas
  8. Nevermind - Texas
  9. Bad Weather - Texas
  10. Master Thief - Texas
  11. Just Holding On - Texas
  12. Red Book - Texas

The sixth track has artist "Texas featuring Paul Buchanan" whilst all
  others are "Texas".

I want to browse by album artist selecting "Texas" and seeing all 12
tracks on the album, not just the 11 that match.

Locale: en-US (en_US.utf8); UI: en-US

Steps to reproduce:
1. open Math Formula editor
2. make some changes
3. kill it with Ctrl+q

Expected: 'save changes' dialog pops out
Actual: no dialog, changes lost

I did not test other distributions. Could you please look into it?
Thanks!

 4. + - "Save changes" message box pops up.

So this looks like a regression on the 7.1 release branch between 7.1.1.2

Some notes for reproducing the regression:

The regression happens only when trying to close using + or

I tried to bisect with VCL=kf5 but it works perfectly showing always the save
pop-up as expected.

The regression is gtk3 only.
For my bisect I was able to reproduce forcing VCL with:
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3

not sure if this is a problem in Thunderbird, ebay's rss feeds or my
expectations. If you have some information as to what it is, please
let me know. I am on hardy.

I'd like to use Thunderbird's RSS capabilities to watch for some
auctions on ebay. I have several issues with it. First of all, take
a search as http://tinyurl.com/5udae8 as an example, the corresponding
RSS feed is http://tinyurl.com/47cazt. The search is limited to
auctions ending in the next 24 hours, but the feeds shows all the
auctions. The second problem is that all items in that search (IOW,
the RSS feeds entries) reappear every day. So, if I read through the
list (which in this case I have kept deliberately short) on Monday
almost all items will reappear on "my radar" again on Tuesday.

2021-05-08 Thread Larch42
Here is a table with red borders. The following text has an overline.
The colour of the overline in the pdf (not in the odt) follows the
colour of the table borders, which can't really be the intended
behaviour.

Tested on libreoffice 7.1.2.2 (debian) and linreoffice 6.1.5.2 (debian).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1922353] Re: Overview sometimes fails to appear or disappear in 21.04

choose from the running applications or write a command into the text
window. After I chose an application or press ESC all this disappear
and I can do my thing.

  Since trying 21.04 sometimes this
  1. does not appear properly - there is no visible text window
  2. does not disappear - despite what I click on or what keys do I press this
never disappear so I can not use my running applications or start anything new
even from the menu.

I have to log out and in to break this.

Disabling my gnome-shell extensions or using xorg instead of wayland
  does not helps.

Since upgrading this morning this happens every time I press Super,
not just occasionally, thus making my desktop unusable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1925732] Re: [wayland] gnome window manager ignores the --geometry location request of the gnome-terminal

2021-05-08 Thread Péter Prőhle
A very personal comment: the main reason why I use linux exclusively
since 1994 is that I can work in character terminal using the unix
command line programming environment for my everyday goals (teaching and
researching math and computational math). This is the reason why I am
so sensitive for the missing positioning of my terminals, since I
frequently invoke and kill terminals, depending on the actual needs, I
have never abandoned windows waiting for nothing. Sorry for this very
personal comment, but I wanted to explain why I wish not to consider
"invalid" ...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1925732] Re: [wayland] gnome window manager ignores the --geometry location request of the gnome-terminal

2021-05-08 Thread Péter Prőhle
Sorry to oppose the opinion of those who probaly know the system much
better than me, but it is simply NOT TRUE that neither Ubuntu nor
especially Mutter is responsible for the huge step backward, the missing
positioning of windows on the screen what was always possible since the
80's. AND it is neither true, that USING Wayland becomes impossible to
handle the positioning.

Wayland side: now I am in Mutter over Wayland w/o Xorg, and the top bar
on the screen is NOT appearing randomly depending on the situation, but
it is always aligned on the top of the actual screen, and it never
extends to the other screen. HENCE the location of top, the location of
top-left corner and the location of the top-right corner CAN BE handled,
--- and I need exactly that:

gnome-terminal --geometry=+0+0   == I wish a terminal into the
top-left corner

gnome-terminal --geometry=-0+0   == I wish a terminal into the
top-right corner

Ubuntu side: it is not Wayland but Ubuntu who made DEFAULT this Wayland
w/o Xorg any warnings at the login screen, and even the fact that "the
current login will fall into Wayladn w/o Xorg OR there will be Xorg
services" IS HIDDEN, NOT SHOWN rigth where the account name and the
password is due. HENCE Ubuntu as a strategic decider IS involved in the
case.

Mutter side: it is not true that Mutter is not capable to handle the
positioning w/o Xorg, there are PLENTY evidences and indications, that
Muter DOES EXACLTY KNOW where the edges of my two physical screens are.

HENCE in spite of the backward downgrading of the Wayland protocol,
Mutter is NOT behindered in knowing the rectangles of my two physical
creens.

Therefore Mutter IS also responsible, that the positioning of a gnome-
terminal dos not work any longer if the default of Ubuntu is Wayland w/o
Xorg.

Sorry, I understand, that I could invoke the Xorg services which are now
considered obsolote by Ubuntu, ...

... but I use computers since 1972, I was an active adult in parallel
with the development of computer systems. HENCE my experience, that
better not to deviate from the defaults, otherwise I will have more
trubles, than to stand out somehow the defaults.

That is why so interesting for me, that the traditional standard
positionings of windows should work even over raw Wayland w/o Xorg
services.

This is the derivation, why I think that it is proven that the
categorisation of "invalid" is wrong.

Since I am the first reporter, therefore I can not switch this "invalid"
back to the previous "confirmed", henc my only possibility now to change
it back to "new", SORRY for that, but the "invalid" is not true, and it
would behinder the handling of the problem if I leve it "invalid".

I changed only at "mutter", since the gnome-terminal looks forwarding
the positioning requests.

Hence I have choosed "opinion" for the terminal, since there is no
better choice for the situation, that the proper use of the gnome-
terminals are behindered, actually that was the reason why we descovered
the problem around Wayland and the default decison of Ubuntu, but the
gnome-terminal looks not responsible for it's insufficient behaviour in
the daily use.
