[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1922353] Re: Overview sometimes fails to appear or disappear in gnome-shell 3.38

2021-06-12 Thread Corey Huinker
I manually downloaded gnome-shell 3.38.4-1ubuntu3~21.04.1 and can
confirm that it solves the issue for me as well.

  [Impact]

Shell overview gets stuck where it's permanently toggled but not
visible. Only app windows appear in their overview state. Can't
  interact with applications anymore.

  [Test Plan]

  1. Log into GNOME.
  2. Press Super+A
  3. Click on 'Files' and wait till it has launched.
  4. Press the Super key.
Expect: Can interact with the application window.

  [Where problems could occur]

Since the patch affects some of the core gnome-shell layout logic,
anything is possible. Risk has been mitigated by the patch being
  small.

  [Original description]

When I press the "windows" or "options" or "super" key a list of
running applications (like alt-tab) and a text window appears. I can
choose from the running applications or write a command into the text
window. After I chose an application or press ESC all this disappear
and I can do my thing.

  Since trying 21.04 sometimes this
  1. does not appear properly - there is no visible text window
  2. does not disappear - despite what I click on or what keys do I press this
never disappear so I can not use my running applications or start anything new
even from the menu.

I have to log out and in to break this.

Disabling my gnome-shell extensions or using xorg instead of wayland
  does not helps.

Since upgrading this morning this happens every time I press Super,
not just occasionally, thus making my desktop unusable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1895490] Re: no destination host name is cups-browsed running

2021-06-12 Thread oldfred
Same error.

But changed printer from default to one with .local at end of name then
worked.

Not sure why hpcups 3.20.3 printer and driverless cups-filter 1.27.4
printer are also configured but do not work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1930409] Re: Pulseaudio 14.2 says: GetManagedObjects() failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. ...

2021-06-12 Thread rud
I did that, as said, I do not get anything, just returns to $ and a 0
byte .upload file with the same name appears in /var/crash. I tried
multiple times.

I installed Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 after downloading the image and
verifying checksum, I installed it now on 5 different systems, each one
shows the exact same crash file (attached). There is no way to send it.

Also, there are no weird behaviors, everything just works. But the
message is annoying. I got it first only at initial boot after install
but now I notice it appears also after subsequent reboots, if I deleted
the file in /var/crash before rebooting.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876056] Re: No automatic switch to headset microphone on connect

2021-06-12 Thread Raymundo Cassani
@eggie, I have the same issue, your approach to address it works as well
for me, thanks for pointing in the good direction ;) However, I found
unacceptable the fact of no mic input if headphones are plugged. As such
I found an alternative, making the headset port always available and the
default, even if not plugged. Thus when headphones/headset connected the
port is to Headset mic, but I can still change to Internal mic. With
unplugged headphone/headset the same, port is to Headset mic, but I can
still change to Internal mic.

1. In /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-input-headset-
mic.conf change all the 'state.plugged' and 'state.unplugged' to 'yes'.

2. Locate the name of the Source and desired Port with:
$ pacmd list-sources

3. Edit /etc/pulse/default.pa to set the default Source and Port, add
the line 'set-source-port SourceName PortName' in my case it was 'set-
source-port alsa_input.pci-_00_1f.3.analog-stereo analog-input-
headset-mic'

Title:
No automatic switch to headset microphone on connect

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
On my Dell XPS 7590, when I plugin a headset with a 4-pin-connector,
the audio OUTPUT automatically switches from the speakers in the
laptop to the headset. However, the audio INPUT does not switch from
the microphone in the laptop to the microphone in the headset.

Using for example pavucontrol, I can switch to the microphone manually
on the tab 'input devices' - on that tab Port will be on 'Internal
Microphone' and I can set it to 'Headset Microphone'.

What's even more confusing is that when I unplug the headset, both
input AND output switch back to internal automatically and the port on
  the 'Input Devices'.

This is on Ubuntu 19.10 with kernel 5.4.28-050428-generic (but I also
see the same issue on kernel 5.3.0-48) and pulseaudio
  1:13.0-1ubuntu1.1.

If any more information is needed, let me know.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1925677] Re: Thunderbird: Recurring tasks on CalDAV account can no longer be set to completed

2021-06-12 Thread Michael von Glasow
After checking again today, I noticed the official PPA has Thunderbird
78.8.1, and the issue is thus fixed. Therefore, this bug can be closed.

** Changed in: thunderbird (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Fix Released

Title:
Thunderbird: Recurring tasks on CalDAV account can no longer be set to
  completed

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

Set up calendar and tasks with a CalDav server and an old Thunderbird
version (up to ca. December 2020).
  Set up a recurring task.
Whenever an instance of the recurring task becomes due, mark it as
completed.
Repeat this for a few instances.
  Upgrade to Thunderbird 78.7.1.
  Examine the list of tasks.

  Actual results:

Previous instances of the recurring tasks (which had already been
marked as completed before the update) now reappear and show as
incomplete. If I manually set them to Completed, the status will be
  reset upon sync.

  Expected results:

Completion status (as previously set) is honored and the tasks no
  longer show as open.

  Additional information:

  The server is running DAViCal.

I just ran a few extra tests:

  * Recurring tasks in local storage (create a weekly task, starting a few
weeks in the past and ending a few weeks into the future, then mark some of the
past instances as complete)
  * Same on the CalDAV calendar, sync after marking a few past instances
complete
  * Repeat the CalDAV tests with variations: complete the second instance but
leave the first one uncompleted; complete the third instance, sync, then
complete the second one
  * Non-recurring task on CalDAV

  Results:

  * Non-recurring tasks are not affected; I can mark the task completed and it
will keep its status.
  * Recurring tasks in local storage are also not affected; completed instances
will keep their status.
  * Instances of recurring tasks on CalDAV can be marked completed but will
lose their status upon synchronization. Exception: one instance maintains its
completion status.
  * The instance to maintain its completion status is the first one that got
marked complete (i.e. based on the time the completion flag got set, not based
on start date).

This bug began showing with an update deployed sometime between
January–March 2021, though I failed to record the exact version
  numbers.

I also have an Android app accessing the same DAViCal instance, where
the completed instance have not been reset.

In conclusion, the issue seems to occur when reading tasks from a
CalDAV server (tasks on the server are not altered). The first
instance which got set to Completed retains its completion status,
whereas the flag is ignored for all later ones.

I have filed this bug upstream at
  https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1707032 and was told that
this issue should be fixed as of Thunderbird 78.8.0 (current being
78.10.0). So the main issue is that the Ubuntu repos have an outdated
Thunderbird version with a known issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1824874] Re: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top-left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed]

2021-06-12 Thread Andras Mocsary
How do I figure out which application tripped the policy and then
resulted in the dialog?

In my case the unclickable dialog happens on my Desktop PC booting into my
Ubuntu 20.04.
No VM, no remote connection, no xRPD involved, no new software installed, no
torrents, and downloaded nothing.

I have several virtual networks created by docker, but this setup worked
for years until a few days ago.

The only change was that I added a new SSD to the system on top of
existing ones, formatted to ext4, but it's not even in fstab yet.

In disco, when policykit prompted me for a password in order for
update-manager to dispatch instructions to aptdaemon to perform

  clicked 'authenticate'.

The window is not clickable, it appears not to even be a window -
mouse presses are received by the window underneath. The exception is
that the 'cancel' button is active and receives mouse events - but
  clicking it does nothing.

This may be a gnome-shell issue rather than policykit.

enhance thunderbird to include option to forward original msg in reply

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

In my business environment, TOFU is the norm. (Most people use
Outlook.) Everyone's used to seeing the format that tb presently
provides when I forward messages. So I am always opening the message
twice. First I click forward, then I copy the next, then I close that
window, then I click reply, then I paste the forwarded text, then I
start my reply at the top of the message. I do it this way so the To:
field is filled out for the reply and so the message is tagged as
  replied, not forwarded.

I am requesting that tb be enhanced to provide an additional option
for reply style, which is "reply by forwarding inline."

Please try ubuntu kernel 5.11.0-19-generic or later version. Looks like
it is a soundwire audio codec on your machine.
