Bug description:
Suspend, restart and power off simply don't work. The system crashes,
logs me out and takes me back to the log-in screen. It possibly has
something to do with the Nvidia driver (460), but is the same with the
Nouveau driver enabled. I used system76-power previously to set Nvidia
On-demand, but this does not work any more, and conflicts with nvidia-
prime. However, uninstalling both makes no difference - possibly the
configuration is badly set and not re-set. The hardware I'm using is
possibly a bit niche. The laptop is Huawei Matebook Pro X. I had the
problem yesterday on 20.10, and updated today to 21.04 to see if the
problem would be resolved, but no luck.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1551949]

2021-06-25 Thread Jmuizelaar

I think so. I added "Print to PDF now produces working hyperlinks"

Title:
Printing to PDF file loses URLs/links

Status in Mozilla Thunderbird:
  Fix Released
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1. File -> Print...
  2. Select "Print to File".
  3. Enter the file name.
  4. Enter the save-to folder.
  5. Leave the output format as-is, or select PDF if it's not the default.
  6. Hit the Print button.
  7. Open the resulting PDF in any PDF viewer.

  Actual results:

The URLs within the document are not actually hyperlinks. They are
simply text, coloured blue and underlined.

  Expected results:

Any clickable links on the original e-mail message should be retained
when converting the document to PDF format.

Title:
  [upstream] RTL Spreadsheet Insert Cells

Status in LibreOffice:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When using a right-to-left spreadsheet, right clicking and selected
"insert cells" shows the normal LTR option to shift cells right,
although when used it actually shifts cells left.

I believe that shifting cells left is the correct behaviour in this
case, but the text of the option should be changed to read "shift
cells left". This was first noticed when using the Hebrew language
user interface, but the problem is present when using English UI too.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1931799] Re: audio not working on Raspberry Pi 4

2021-06-25 Thread Gordon Fresh
Pulseaudio crashes, but not regularly. Usually a failure occurs when I listen
music (via VLC, Rhythmbox) or I watch youtube. I heard only noise in the
headphones when this app is crashed.
Only restarting the pulseaudio service helps.

Title:
Bluetooth headset HSP/HFP mode not working in Bionic

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
There is a previous bug with almost the same title, but for Xenial
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1549163). I
have had this issue in Artful, and when commented on the old bug, I
was asked to raise a new one instead. I waited to see if Bionic fixed
it for me, but it does not seem to work still. So!

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. enable bluetooth on computer and switch on the headset.
  2. pair and connect the headset
  3. go to settings to switch headset to HSP/HFP mode to enable mic
  4. save and close window.

  Expected behaviour:
  1. mic should be enabled and headset should be usable to attend calls on
laptop.

  Behaviour in error:
  1. Headset profile switches back to A2DP and mic is not enabled.

I am using a generic bluetooth headset on a fresh updated Kubuntu
  18.04 bionic with plasma DE.

  Software versions:
  Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic
  Bluez version: 5.48-0ubuntu3
  pulseaudio: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7
  pulseaudio-module-bluetooth: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7

  Additional information:
Running "pacmd list-cards" says that HSF/HFP is 'not available' on the
headset:

  Output from Headset section:
  profiles:
a2dp_sink: High Fidelity Playback (A2DP Sink) (priority 40,
available: unknown)
  headset_head_unit: Headset Head Unit (HSP/HFP) (priority 30,
available: no)
off: Off (priority 0, available: yes)

Bug description:
  https://people.canonical.com/~rbalint/zstd-debs/ contains a .deb built
on Hirsute having both data and control members of the .deb being
compressed with zstd. It can be handy for testing various tools.

  [dpkg]
Decompression support in dpkg landed first in Bionic and is being SRUd to
Xenial in LP: #1764220 enable Launchpad's Xenial systems to process the
zstd-compressed binary packages.
From dpkg's perspective the upgrade path is cleared.

The original plan was compressing only the internal data.tar .deb
member, but dpkg uses uniform compression by default since dpkg 1.19.0
thus I'm collecting all the changes to support control.tar.zst, too,
  in this bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 299261] Re: movemail account does not work with global inbox

Title:
movemail account does not work with global inbox

Status in Mozilla Thunderbird:
  Won't Fix
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

When setting up a movemail account in Thunderbird, the wizard provides
the option to use the Global Inbox with the account. However, this
type of account seems not to support the global inbox.

  To reproduce:
  - Create a new account of type 'Unix Mailspool (Movemail)'. In the wizard
choose 'Use Global Inbox' (it is checked by default).
  - Send mail to yourself (verify that it arrived with ls -l
/var/mail/)
  - Get mail for the movemail account

  Expected behaviour:
  - new messages from the /var/mail/username mailbox are moved to the global
inbox under the Local Folders account.

  Observed behaviour:
  - Nothing happens, the Local Folders account does not even have an 'Inbox'
folder.
  - Instead, messages are copied to the account-local inbox
(.mozilla-thunderbird/.../Mail/localhost/Inbox).
  - In the movemail account settings, there is no option to control the use of
the global inbox (as with POP accounts).

Without the global inbox option reading mail works.
Note: I have no other account configured which could make use of the global
inbox (only IMAP accounts) -- in case this matters.

I only run the updates of Ubuntu. I have not installed the last kernel

Maybe in the past I have changed something that generate that this
situation happen, but I don't remember something similar.

Are you sure that Ubuntu is not installing the 5.11 kernel by themself?

Gdm3 with smartcard asks for login/smartcard pin even if there is no

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I use my Ubuntu PC with Yubikey almost always plugged in. It provides
several security token interfaces, such as U2F, GPG smartcard,
proprieritary Yubico interfaces (of which I mostly use TOTP codes),
and also PIV smartcard. However, I haven't configured a PIV smartcard
  on it.

Whenever I login into the system having Yubikey plugged in, I'm prompted for
login name, and then for PIN for some smartcard while also being asked to plug
in one. This is very misleading on several layers:
  1. I have the device providing smartcard plugged id,
  2. But it's not the smartcard GDM would think it is as it's not configured
properly,
  3. There are no local smartcard-authenticating users right now in the system,
  3. There are no remote authentication systems configured on the system (so no
ActiveDirectory-smartcard logins or such).

If I unplug the token UX goes back on old good track.

Given the circumstances above, I'd consider that GDM (and, on my bet,
any PAM configuration it uses) shouldn't offer to login using
smartcard if there is no way to actually do so. I feel something is
off here, so I'm reporting a bug. It could be an upstream problem
though; it also could be an upstream SSSD problem, or all combined.

I believe there is a more clear user experience:
  1. GDM should display users that can login into the system, as it always does
(if configured). It may also provide entering other login name (also if
configured). This is GDM usually does without smartcards altogether.
  2. When user is chosen (from the list or manually typed in), check can this
user even authenticate with smartcards (i.e. if any of available smartcards is
actually recognised for this user). If so, then ask for PIN. Else, don't show
anything about smartcards at all (this includes when SSSD is not configured for
any AD or related and this user has no local smartcard configuration). This can
switch there & back based on device events.
I've seen other OS doing this.

Ubuntu/Gnome session doesn't ask me for PIN for a smartcard on a lock
screen, so I guess it doesn't support it at all or correctly finds out
it can't be used. Even more, I couldn't find a way to actually add my
smartcard as a local login method.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1906741] Re: Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2021-06-25 Thread Peter Mertz
I have seen this happening for months, though not very often. But it
happened yesterday and today again.

Music playing in the background (via Audacious) is garbled. This usually
happens when I open a website in a new tab. Sounds like a bitcrusher
effect to me.

I can reverse the effect by closing tabs, but I do not see a clear
cause-and-effect pattern. There are not too many tabs open (< 15), it
began when I opened Red Hat's site, but I had to close three other tabs
before it reverted to normal.

Also, the sites did not even play Audio, none of them.

I'm on Linux for more than 15 years. This is one of the strangest things I have
seen so far.
;)

Bug description:
Opening certain applications/websites at the same time as Firefox
causes the audio to become garbled.

The audio sounds distorted with an echo.

Certain actions are guaranteed to cause this, but it can also
happening when only running instances of Firefox.

I've been able to consistently cause this by launching Zoom from a link
within Firefox.
This does not occur when using Chrome.

The only way to fix the issue is to shut down all audio-related

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1933118] Re: Screen freeze

2021-06-25 Thread Tony Beaumont
And it occurred a second time, just a few minutes after I posted the
previous message. in case it is useful, I attach the output from dmesg
created while the UI was frozen, also the Xorg.log and another copy of
the output from journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

Again the freeze corresponded with a movement of the USB external mouse.

Bug description:
This bug appears to be a deadlock of some kind. It most often happens
when I move the mouse (external USB mouse), but it has once happened
when I left the computer logged in but idle and has sometimes happened
  in video conferences.

When the problem occurs, the mouse cursor still moves and any audio
continues being audible for a while, but the UI is frozen and
unresponsive. The fan gets very loud as if the computer is doing a
lot of work. If I try the 'REISUB' method of shutting down, it
usually does not work. If I remote log in and do a shutdown, it takes
several minutes to actually shut down - as if waiting for some process
  to time out.

I haven't any obvious errors for this bug, and i don't know where to
look for possible error messages. It is possible that if there is a
deadlock, there is no error message, unless shutting down causes the
process to generate an error message.

The bug happens very often, sometimes several times a week.

If you could tell me what commands to run when the problem occurs in
order to gather more information, I can remote login and run those
  commands.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1933118] Re: Screen freeze

2021-06-25 Thread Tony Beaumont
As requested I am adding the output from journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

Just to add some further info:

* I reinstalled my Ubuntu system yesterday back to the same version (my wifi
and bluetooth were not working and I could find no way to get them back, so
this freeze has happened with a standard install of 20.04 LTS downloaded and
installed yesterday afternoon and otherwise is working normally.
* The freeze happened immediately after I installed and used Microsoft Teams
(64 bit). That might be a coincidence.
* The freeze often happens as I move the mouse from my external monitor to my
main (laptop) screen.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1768609] Re: can't add KDE apps to GNOME dock

2021-06-25 Thread Johannes Kalliauer
The user can make a workaround, by using the .desktop the same
as the `WM_CASS` (returned by the command `xprop`).

e.g.
- for Doplin use `dolphin.desktop`
- for JabRef use `org.jabref.gui.JabRefMain.desktop`

can't add KDE apps to GNOME dock

Bug description:
  Hi,

I clean installed Ubuntu 18.04 yesterday and noticed I couldn't add
KDE apps to the GNOME dock. Basically, the "Add to Favorites" option
is missing from the right-click menu of dock icons of currently-
  running KDE apps.

If I search for a KDE app using the "Show Applications" button, and
right-click on an app in the search results before running it, that
menu does contain "Add to Favorites". However, if this is used, the
added app behaves incorrectly, in that clicking on its icon in the
dock always launches a new instance rather than bringing any existing
  instance to the front.

Previously I used Ubuntu 14.04 (with Unity) and KDE apps could be
added to the dock and managed as expected (i.e. clicking app icon when
app is running brought it to the front).

Some searching around suggests this might be related to missing
StartWMClass fields in the .desktop files of the KDE apps. I added
  StartWMClass=kate to /usr/share/applications/org.kde.kate.desktop and
that seemed to fix the problem. However this didn't work for Konsole,
so there might be more to fixing this in general.

I think this is probably either a KDE bug (they need to correct all
their .desktop files?), a GNOME bug, or at the very least an Ubuntu-
level regression in the Unity->GNOME transition that may justify
  taking action somewhere.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1933633] [NEW] Failed to activate service 'net.reactivated.Fprint'

2021-06-25 Thread bluppfisk
Public bug reported:

Since a few days, the fingerprint reader won't work anymore (Dell XPS
9300, Goodix Fingerprint reader Ubuntu 21.04, Mutter). Notably it
started happening after kernel 5.11.22 was installed.

$ fprintd-list
Failed to get Fprintd manager: Error calling StartServiceByName for
net.reactivated.Fprint: Failed to activate service 'net.reactivated.Fprint':
timed out (service_start_timeout=25000ms)

This causes long delays on the login screen and elsewhere.

I could turn off the fingerprint reader pam, but I wish to keep using
it.

Journalctl -b 0 output attached.

** Affects: libfprint (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "journalctl -b 0 output"
