Title:
  gtk4 not built for i386

Status in gtk4 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I'm trying to enable GTK 4 when building ibus:

  https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/ibus2/+packages

Up to now ibus has been built also on i386, but gtk4 has not been
built on that arch, so the i386 build fails due to missing build
  dependencies.

Is it time to stop building ibus on i386? Or can we build gtk4 on i386
(it was successfully built on Debian's i386)?

At least some step needs to be taken.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1551623] Re: [SRU] package gconf2 3.2.6-3ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

2021-07-27 Thread guysoft
Getting this in 21.04
When I close the dialog with "close" It pops right back again and the upgrade
is stuck.

Title:
  [SRU] package gconf2 3.2.6-3ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade:
dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

Status in gconf package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  [Impact]

During system upgrades, triggers for gconf2 might activate too early,
while some of its dependencies aren't configured yet. This happens
several times in a loop and stops the upgrade in the end.

The attached debdiffs fix this issue by changing interest to interest-
noawait in debian/gconf2.triggers file. The triggers will now activate
  near the end of upgrade.

In addition, the debdiff for Bionic also contains a fix for FTBFS (bug
  1834211).

  [Test Case]

Triggers for gconf2 are usually activated on changes in
/usr/share/GConf/gsettings folder, so the main Ubuntu edition (with
GNOME) is most suitable for reproducing the issue. To reproduce it,
install that edition, apply all updates, then try upgrading to the
  next release.

  [Regression Potential]

None, interest-noawait trigger is known to work well in other packages
  (comment 31).

  [Other Info]

Even if Cosmic goes EOL next month, the fix for it might be worth it
  for release upgrades.

  [Original Description]

When upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04Beta (2016-03-01), this error occured,
alongside many others related to systemd and gnome.
Notice that despite all warnings and errors, finally, the system remained
functional.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1937922] Re: gtk4 not built for i386

2021-07-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
gtk4 has now been built on i386 - thanks Steve! - and I have uploaded
ibus with gtk4 support (needs to be approved in the NEW queue).

  gtk4 not built for i386

Status in gtk4 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
I'm trying to enable GTK 4 when building ibus:

  https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/ibus2/+packages

Up to now ibus has been built also on i386, but gtk4 has not been
built on that arch, so the i386 build fails due to missing build
  dependencies.

Is it time to stop building ibus on i386? Or can we build gtk4 on i386
(it was successfully built on Debian's i386)?

At least some step needs to be taken.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1872268] Re: Gnome Shell completely freezes in Ubuntu 20.04 when clicking outside of app icon folders (when ubuntu-dock is loaded)

2021-07-27 Thread Shubham Deshmukh
This bug still exists, on a fully updated Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS with
Wayland. Having faced at least 7-8 times in the last 2 months, it gets
very easily triggered while clicking around the UI. Over here screen
resolution is also 1366x768.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open drawer menu (9 dots)
2. Open any group folder
3. Click anywhere outside the folder OR click _esc_ in succession

Freezes the entire UI, keyboard and mouse. No response after 6 minutes.
Sleep button too doesn't work, required force shut down.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1938152] [NEW] Printing output gets truncated on 90.0.0 and 90.0.1

2021-07-27 Thread David McKenna
Public bug reported:

There is a bug in 90.0.0 and 90.0.1 that truncates output while printing
due to a scaling issue. It was fixed in 90.0.2 as it chopped off content
on most websites. Package should be updated to include the fixes of
90.0.2 as this is affecting many users. There is no work around other
then downgrading back to 89.

New information: Rebuilds of 1.9.17 and builds of 1.9.18 in impish
result in the same issue, meaning there is likely a build-time

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1938195] [NEW] Configuration for eGPU removed on update

2021-07-27 Thread Alan Pope 🍺🐧🐱 🦄
Public bug reported:

ThinkPad X1C9 running Kubuntu.
I'm using an external nVidia GPU in an enclosure, attached via thunderbolt.

I have applied updates over the last few weeks, and rebooted today.
Got a black screen. Turns out an update back in mid June (22nd) removed the
Option
"AllowExternalGpus" "true" from my xorg.conf.

Why is an update removing a vital configuration option enabling me to
display my login screen?

I had to re-edit the xorg.conf like an cave man from 20 years ago.

Configuration for eGPU removed on update

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  ThinkPad X1C9 running Kubuntu.
I'm using an external nVidia GPU in an enclosure, attached via thunderbolt.

I have applied updates over the last few weeks, and rebooted today.
Got a black screen. Turns out an update back in mid June (22nd) removed the
Option
  "AllowExternalGpus" "true" from my xorg.conf.

Why is an update removing a vital configuration option enabling me to
  display my login screen?

I had to re-edit the xorg.conf like an cave man from 20 years ago.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1729433] Re: LibreOffice doesn't remember window size when running under Wayland

2021-07-27 Thread Tim Passingham
I'm on ubuntu 21.04, wayland. LO now opens files almost full size, but
not quite within the screen size, slightly to the right, so I have to
move the window (using the top bar) before I can properly resize it, and
I have to do this every single time.

This seems to have changed in the most recent LO update. I have now
uninstalled LO gtk3 and gnome, which makes things slightly better. Having done
that I am now on:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1937958] Re: gnome-shell gdb instructions cause immediate "Oh no" crash

2021-07-27 Thread jimav
@vanvugt -

No recent crash file was created in /var/crash, and neither at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/

I re-ran the test using ssh and this time many "St-CRITICAL" warnings
were written to the terminal, including this one surely indicates
something bad:

Object Gio.DBusProxy (0x57d0fa70), has been already deallocated —
impossible to access it. This might be caused by the object having been
destroyed from C code using something such as destroy(), dispose(), or
remove() vfuncs.

These were all captured in a typescript, which I will upload now: PLEASE
SEE "typescript.3-processed"

LMK if there is something else I could do to help track this down.
-Jim

Title:
gnome-shell gdb instructions cause immediate "Oh no" crash

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I wanted to report a gnome-shell bug with a backtrace, so tried to use
  the instructions in

     https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeShell/Debugging

which say to do the following in an ssh login or separate VT:

    gnome_session=$(pgrep -u $USER gnome-session)
    eval export $(sed 's/\o000/\n/g;' < /proc/$gnome_session/environ | grep
DISPLAY)
    eval export $(sed 's/\o000/\n/g;' < /proc/$gnome_session/environ | grep
XAUTHORITY)
    eval export $(sed 's/\o000/\n/g;' < /proc/$gnome_session/environ | grep
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS)
    gdb
    ...etc...

However three problems came up, two minor (wrong instructions), the
  other major:

  (1) There is more than one gnome-session process, and so the shell
variable $gnome_session gets set to a list of several PIDs, which in
turn causes syntax errors when using the expression
  "/proc/$gnome_session/environ".

In Ubuntu 21.04 I have three gnome-session processes immediately after
rebooting and logging in (I have auto-login enabled, so the login
happens by itself, in case that matters):

  $ ps -F $(pgrep -u $USER gnome-session|perl -p -e 's/(\d+)/-p $1/')
UID PIDPPID CSZ RSS PSR STIME TTY TIME CMD
  jima97439725 0 55216 16084 2 13:41 tty3 00:00:00
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary --systemd --session=ubuntu
  jima98288066 0 24031 6148 8 13:41 ?00:00:00
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-ctl --monitor
  jima98388066 0 129272 18176 7 13:41 ?00:00:00
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary --systemd-service --session=ubuntu

  (2) The instructions specify this gdb command:

    call gjs_dumpstack ()

However that results in an error and the call is not made:
'gjs_dumpstack' has unknown return type; cast the call to its declared
  return type

  (3) Most importantly, a crash: Immediately upon starting the new
gnome-shell process (with option --replace) a white screen appears
with "Oh No... something went wrong..." forcing me log out.

The crash happens whether using an independent VT or an ssh login.

Afterwards I typed Control-C to get control in gdb, and produced the
attached backtraces but they don't seem useful (see attached
  typescript file).

/var/syslog might be useful. I will attach the portion beginning just
  before starting the new gnome-shell

The attached typescript file shows what I did to circumvent the buggy
  instructions at https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeShell/Debugging

P.S. The original crash I wanted to report was that opening any .jpg
in gimp and selecting part of the image and then doing Select->Invert
instantly freezes the system. The only recovery is to use a separate
VT to kill the gimp process, after which gnome-shell restarts. A
system error dialog appears saying gnome-session [correction: gnome-
shell] got a segfault somewhere; thus the desire to get a backtrace.
But this bug report is _not_ about that bug, but is about how using
the debug instructions in the wiki are incorrect and when fixed seem
to cause a crash on their own.

built on that arch, so the i386 build fails due to missing build
  dependencies.

Is it time to stop building ibus on i386? Or can we build gtk4 on i386
(it was successfully built on Debian's i386)?

At least some step needs to be taken.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1938230] [NEW] thunderbird encrypts drafts without being asked for

2021-07-27 Thread Henning Sprang
Public bug reported:

Since having upgraded to ubuntu 21.4 yesterday, suddenly all drafts are
being encrypted.

I need to to keep editing my drafts also on a mobile device where I do
not have and do not want to have my opengpgp key.

I did search the config/settings area and the whole web and did not find
how to disable that.

autoencryptDrafts is false for that account.

What can I do?

2021-07-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please run:

  gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

It will not display anything, only create a new file. Then attach the
new file 'settings.txt' here.

---

Por favor, execute:

   gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

Ele no exibir nada, apenas criar um novo arquivo. Em seguida, anexe o
novo arquivo 'settings.txt' aqui.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1937958] Re: gnome-shell gdb instructions cause immediate "Oh no" crash

2021-07-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Actually I can't tell which error was the fatal one, if it's
logged at all. I suggest reporting the problem to the gnome-shell
developers at:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues

and then tell us the new issue ID.

Title:
gnome-shell gdb instructions cause immediate "Oh no" crash

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I wanted to report a gnome-shell bug with a backtrace, so tried to use
  the instructions in

     https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeShell/Debugging

which say to do the following in an ssh login or separate VT:

    gnome_session=$(pgrep -u $USER gnome-session)
    eval export $(sed 's/\o000/\n/g;' < /proc/$gnome_session/environ | grep
DISPLAY)
    eval export $(sed 's/\o000/\n/g;' < /proc/$gnome_session/environ | grep
XAUTHORITY)
    eval export $(sed 's/\o000/\n/g;' < /proc/$gnome_session/environ | grep
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS)
    gdb
    ...etc...

However three problems came up, two minor (wrong instructions), the
  other major:

  (1) There is more than one gnome-session process, and so the shell
variable $gnome_session gets set to a list of several PIDs, which in
turn causes syntax errors when using the expression
  "/proc/$gnome_session/environ".

In Ubuntu 21.04 I have three gnome-session processes immediately after
rebooting and logging in (I have auto-login enabled, so the login
happens by itself, in case that matters):

  $ ps -F $(pgrep -u $USER gnome-session|perl -p -e 's/(\d+)/-p $1/')
UID PIDPPID CSZ RSS PSR STIME TTY TIME CMD
  jima97439725 0 55216 16084 2 13:41 tty3 00:00:00
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary --systemd --session=ubuntu
  jima98288066 0 24031 6148 8 13:41 ?00:00:00
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-ctl --monitor
  jima98388066 0 129272 18176 7 13:41 ?00:00:00
/usr/libexec/gnome-session-binary --systemd-service --session=ubuntu

  (2) The instructions specify this gdb command:

    call gjs_dumpstack ()

However that results in an error and the call is not made:
'gjs_dumpstack' has unknown return type; cast the call to its declared
  return type

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1938195] Re: Configuration for eGPU removed on update

2021-07-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Judging by the top of the config file it sounds like the Nvidia driver
writing and overwriting it. There was an update to nvidia-graphics-
drivers-460 on 21 July.

In theory this is what /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ is for, to add custom
configs that other packages won't touch. But I don't know if spreading
the nvidia config across multiple files with potentially duplicate
sections would work.

Title:
Keyboard shortcut Super+Alt+Up is hardcoded to show activities
  overview

Status in GNOME Shell:
  Unknown
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  ### Affected version

  Ubuntu 21.10 (dev), Wayland, Gnome 40.2.0, gnome-shell 40.2-1ubuntu1

  ### Bug summary

The keyboard shortcut `Super+Alt+Up` seems to be hardcoded to
something along the lines of showing activities overview, and cannot
be removed or used for any other action, even if it's shown as
  assigned to one.

  ### Steps to reproduce

  1. Open system preferences, and navigate to Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts ->
Customize Shortcuts -> System
  2. Verify that no action has `Super+Alt+Up` set, removing/changing any
actions if it's already assigned.
  3. Optional: assign `Super+Alt+Up` to some other action.
  4. Press `Super+Alt+Up`

  ### What did you expect to happen

Either the action which `Super+Alt+Up` is shown to be assigned to, or
nothing if no action has that shortcut assigned.

  ### What happened

  The activities overview is shown.

  ### Upstream bug report

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/4497 - maintainers
indicated this is most likely cause by a downstream modification.

  [ Impact ]

Mutter 3.36.2 breaks custom input settings

  [ Test case ]

  - Set custom settings using gnome-control-center (set custom Delay and
Speed in Settings > Accessibility > Repeat Keys) or gnome-tweaks (under
Additional Layout options)
  - Unplug / replug the input device or suspend / resume
  - Input device settings should be preserved

  [ Regression potential ]

Devices added or removed may be not noticed by gnome-shell.

  ---

I am running Ubuntu 20.04.1 with Gnome. I am seeing new behavior which
seems to have been introduced within the past couple of weeks. I have
a couple custom keyboard settings configured in Tweaktool "Additional
Layout Options". These settings work great.

I have a USB keyboard plugged into the machine. If I have the keyboard
plugged in when I start my Gnome session, the customized keyboard
layout options are correctly applied to the USB keyboard. If I unplug
and reconnect the keyboard, the keyboard does will _NOT_ have the
  customized keyboard settings.

If I restart my Gnome session (using Alt-F2 -> "r"), the customized
settings are applied to the keyboard.

I think this behavior is something new. Before, I was able to
unplug/reconnect my keyboard and it would apply my customized keyboard
settings on reconnect. Is there anything I can do to force the
application of the custom keyboard tweaks on USB keyboard reconnect?

Is anyone else able to reproduce this? I don't have any other machines
with Ubuntu 20.04.1 to test with.

  Thanks!

  layout-options-not-working)
