[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1941030] Re: Screen FLickers

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Please try adding this kernel parameter:

  i915.enable_psr=0

which you can do by editing /etc/default/grub, adding the parameter to
the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line, and then run:

  sudo update-grub

and reboot.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => linux-hwe-5.11 (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Screen FLickers
+ [Fujitsu Lifebook U7411] Screen Flickers

** Changed in: linux-hwe-5.11 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1936643] Re: Logging in to GNOME 40.2.0 causes desktop icon extension to show as application in Activities overview

Logging in to GNOME 40.2.0 causes desktop icon extension to show as
  application in Activities overview

Status in Gnome Shell Extension Desktop Icons Ng:

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:

Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri, I have done today's updates, including
GNOME 40, and when I rebooted, I saw the desktop icons in the
Activities overview that has the grey gears icon and the gibberish
name. However, when I clicked on it, I'm taken to the desktop. When I
open the Activities overview again, that "application" didn't show up.

I suspect that this "application" came from a GNOME extension that
  handles desktop icons, called gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng.
Because I thought that it loaded AFTER the Activities overview opened
at log in. This repeats every time I reboot or just log off and log
  back in.

  Steps to reproduce:
1. Update the Impish system to the latest version
2. Reboot
3. Log in

  Expected results:
The "application" that came from the desktop icon shell extension doesn't
appear in the Activities overview

  Actual results:
This "application" shows up in the overview with the grey gears icon and
the gibberish name every time a user signs in to the new GNOME 40 desktop

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940925] Re: Do not activate spread view on first boot

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I should note we can't do this unconditionally because that would break
the GNOME dock. It should only be done if Ubuntu Dock is loaded.

Title:
Window switching with Alt-Tab stops working after a while

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On Ubuntu 21.04,since around 01 July 2021, Alt-Tab works as usual for
a while after logging in, but then stops entirely (that is, it does
nothing; the switcher overlay fails to appear, and switching between
windows does not work). I made _no_ configuration change, and Alt-Tab
continues to be configured in the keyboard shortcuts settings as
  usual.

This has been described by other users here:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1349544/alttab-stops-working-after-a-
  while-in-ubuntu-21-04

There seems to be some possible connection to Thunderbird in
particular, and the fact that in the left-hand-side launcher (?) /
favourites of the Ubuntu desktop, the Thunderbird icon starts behaving
strangely, e.g. does not show the open Thunderbird windows when
clicking on it ... while other applications work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1941003] Re: Installer inaccessible to Orca screen reader

2021-08-24 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1941003

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Installer inaccessible to Orca screen reader

Status in orca package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In Impish (canary), when attempting to use the installer with the Orca
screen reader for accessibility, Orca cannot determine the states or
roles of the form controls, and they all appear as 'grayed'. When I
select an item, no feedback is given. To reproduce: start the Orca
screen reader, on the live system, and select "install" option. Move
among the locale selector. Orca will read the language name and add
"frame grayed". Select one by hitting the space bar on it. Orca should
read "selected", but it remains silent. When you tab among the
options, you'll eventually hear that you are on the 'next' button,
yet, it, too, will be described as "grayed". The behavior described
here will appear on all pages of the installer wizard.

Encoding problems after switching the layout

Status in Mozilla Thunderbird:
  Fix Released
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

  steps to reproduce:
  - View -> Layout -> Classic View
  - View -> Layout -> enable Message Pane
  - select a message in which you can see special characters (e.g. ö,ä,ü...)
  - switch the layout, e.g. View -> Layout -> Wide View

now you can see, that the special characters are displayed wrong (e.g.
  ö instead of ö)

If you select another mail and select this mail again, the characters
  are displayed without problems!

I think there is a problem with the encoding after switching the

I've tried both 5.3.0-28-generic and 5.5.0-050500-generic from kernel-
ppa but that made no difference. It appears to be a bug in radeon.

Nothing specific makes this happen, just regular usage with a
compositing window manager. I'm not playing games or particularly
exercising the GPU. The last two times I was just reading in web
browser. It's also happened in the middle of the night while I was
asleep. Sometimes I have a few days uptime, sometimes it happens in
less than 24 hours from boot.

This never happened before the radeon update mentioned on the first
  line.

I'll attach two files of dmesg output. As per
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze I've installed and
started apport for next time it happens.

Bug description:
LibreOffice 7.2.0 is meant to be targeted for Impish/21.10.
Unfortunately is was not ready in time due to a regression of the ARM
  builds.

  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.2.0 is the initial release of the 7.2 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.2#7.2.0_release

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1934527] Re: Window switching with Alt-Tab stops working after a while

2021-08-24 Thread Pascal Bercher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1933996 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1933996

I believe that the bug is related to Wayland. It can be fixed by not
using it as described here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1349544/alttab-stops-working-after-a-
while-in-ubuntu-21-04/1359821#1359821

Bug description:
Network manager gets NTP servers from DHCP but do not update timesyncd to use

This is a problem on private networks which do not have access to public
internet. On this type of network the configuration of timesyncd must be
updated manually instead of inheriting the conf from the dhcp servers.

This can be integrated with a NM dispatcher script such as below:

  etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/10-update-timesyncd for example:

  ==8<=8<=8<=8<=8<==
  #! /usr/bin/bash

  [ -n "$CONNECTION_UUID" ] || exit

Status in libreoffice source package in Impish:
  Triaged

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940780] Re: Screen keeps flickering on ubuntu 20.04

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Please try adding this kernel parameter:

  i915.enable_psr=0

which you can do by editing /etc/default/grub, adding the parameter to
the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line, and then:

  sudo update-grub

and reboot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940779] Re: has_options missing so ssh-agent doesn't start

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1922414 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922414

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 1922414, so it is being marked as such. Please look at
the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you
can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug.
Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in
the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may
find.

  has_options missing so ssh-agent doesn't start

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/20x11-common_process-args is missing the
definition of the function has_option() in the 21.04 distribution. As
a result, when lightdm starts X11, even though use-ssh-agent is
specified in Xsession.options, the test fails and so the agent is not
  started.

This is in the context of using the i3 window manager, which shouldn't
matter except that maybe gnome does stuff on its own that makes the
  problem not apparent there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940757] Re: Keyboard/configuration

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. It sounds like you have either a hardware
problem or a kernel bug. First please try using a USB keyboard and
verify that does not have the bug.

Second please try the latest kernel update:

  sudo apt update
  sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04

and reboot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1940759] Re: bluetooth settings have a delay between on and off modes

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I fear this might be a hardware-specific issue. What is the model of
machine? Please also run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
  lspci -kv > lspci.txt
  lsusb > lsusb.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

2021-08-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sosumi is not supported here. It appears it was supported by the
developer at https://github.com/popey/sosumi-snap/issues but that
project appears to have been shut down.

It appears you have the kernel parameter 'nomodeset' which will disable
the Intel graphics driver. Please remove that parameter and if you
continue to experience problems then open a new bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1915910] Re: evince does not print

2021-08-24 Thread Karsten
Workaround that worked for me: add

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libproxy/0.4.17/pxgsettings Cx ->
sanitized_helper, # Print Dialog

to

/etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

Title:
  evince does not print

Status in evince package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in libproxy package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  audit: type=1400 audit(1613557537.646:81): apparmor="DENIED"
  operation="exec" profile="/usr/bin/evince"
  name="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libproxy/0.4.17/pxgsettings" pid=3500
  comm="sh" requested_mask="x" denied_mask="x" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

It seems that evince has no rights to print if I understand this
  correctly

Printing the same pdf-file from the same origin/folder works with
  OCULAR

  The error is reproduceable
