[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1927100] Re: Slow file dialogs, open and save

2021-10-23 Thread buck2202
Just a quick confirmation that with the patch applied, I've had no
gvfsd-trash deadlocks requiring a pkill in over a week. It was
previously hourly or worse.

Title:
  Slow file dialogs, open and save

Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gvfs source package in Focal:
  New

Bug description:
  On Ubuntu Mate 20.04.

  Sometime the Open and Save dialogs in GTK applications will over 20
  seconds to display.

  I found https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/485 , which
  suggested this due to gvfsd-trash, and running `killall gvfsd-trash`
  which does temporary solve the problem.

  The issue is apparently fixed in gvfs 1.46.2

  Please could 1.46.2 or the fix
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/merge_requests/96 be backported
  to Ubuntu 20.04

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948561] Re: screechy tinny sound quality

2021-10-23 Thread John Radman
** Description changed:

  When playing any video other than a youtube video, the sound quality is
  terrible. It's very tinny and screechy as if it were blowing out the
  speakers, but even at quiet noise levels. I've tried numerous fixes
  including editing the config files for pulse audio, adjusting the sound
  levels in pulseaudio volume control, adjusting the speaker levels in
  alsa mixer, messing with the levels in pulse effects.

  Pulseaudio config editing attempts I've tried:
- https://askubuntu.com/questions/1108...-sound-quality
+

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting

  It is a Realtek ALC3204 sound card on a Dell Inspiron 3501 laptop.
  Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
  5.11.0-38-generic

  I can "fix" the audio issue by playing a youtube video (which always
  plays with good sound quality) and then playing a different video
  simultaneously. This causes the other video to play with good sound
  quality. I can then close the youtube video and the other video
  continues playing with good sound only as long as I don't pause the

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  In Lenovo P520, which using a codec for front panel, the other codec for rear
panel and both are on a same card.

  In this case, the rear Mic will present on input devices of "Sound
  Settings" even if attaching nothing to rear mic jack.

  [Fix]
  For alsa-ucm-conf part, the Mic 2 should use "Rear Mic Jack" as JackControl
because of
  ```
control.18 {
iface CARD
name 'Rear Mic Jack'
value true
comment {
access read
type BOOLEAN
count 1
}
}
  ```
  After applying "Rear Mic Jack", the rear Mic will not always there anymore
but it's not there as well if hot-plugging audio device on rear mic. Thus, it
needs to change pulseaudio to handle if all devices are off cases.

  For pulseaudio, if there is no any audio devices attached, then
  attaching an input device on rear mic jack. The port will not be
  selected automatically because the profiles is off. It needs patch
  pulseaudio to check off profiles (for dual codec case).

  [Test]
  After applying these patches, the rear mic jack works good in all cases (boot
without mic and then attach mic, boot with mic and then hotplug it) and other
functions (line-in / line-out) work pretty well.

  [Where problems could occur]
  This change only apply the bonus on below cases:
  ```
  if ((has_input_port && found_available_input_port && !has_output_port) ||
  (has_output_port && found_available_output_port && !has_input_port) ||
  (has_input_port && found_available_input_port && has_output_port &&
found_available_output_port))
  ```
  and these cases have been tested.
  If there are some complex codec design then it might cause problem but so far
we didn't see that.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1948556] [NEW] calendar has low contrast in both default themes

2021-10-23 Thread Junior Martins
Public bug reported:

Both default dark and light themes of calendar have very low contrast
between event and text colour of events. Text colour is always some kind
of light grey (dark and light modes) or dark grey (light mode only).

On dark theme, setting an account calendar to bright colours doesn't
affect the text colour (light text on light background), while the
opposite doesn't happen on light theme (text changes colour
automatically to dark or light according to background colour).

Also, the colours themselves are differently applied than expected:
changing an account colour to white while in dark mode changes it to a
whitish purple instead of actual white, while changing it to black on
light mode changes it to dark grey.

Bug description:
  This is a unique problem to Ubuntu 21.04 and later and all derivatives
  (pop, mint etc).

  Since Chrome stable 91, when Ozone was enabled by default, unless
  Ozone is disabled in Chrome, flameshot (any version) cannot paste on
  sites such as github, gitlab or kami.

  The workaround has been so far to disable Ozone in Chrome flags, but
  since Chrome 95, Ozone cannot be disabled, which means that flameshot
  no longer works with Chrome and those (and potentially more) sites.

  Everything works fine in Fedora 33/34/35 and Manjaro 20+.

  Thank you.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1741074] Re: [snap] chrome-gnome-shell extension fails to detect native host connector

2021-10-23 Thread Max
It seems, Belgium eID (Comment #36) uses PKCS#11, not native messaging:
https://github.com/Fedict/eid-mw/blob/master/plugins_tools/xpi/new-src/manifest.json
However the problem is essentially the same: native manifest.
Olivier filed a bug in Firefox bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/1734371
"Firefox snap can't load PKCS#11 modules on the host system"

I suppose, the title of this bug does not reflect scale of the problem.
All browser add-ons that relies on native manifests are affected
in Chromium and Firefox.

I came across this issue testing an extension in Firefox using Ubuntu-21.10
live image. I am considering whether it is feasible to run a kind of thin
proxy server on host that creates a socket inside a directory mounted to snap
and runs a binary in response to connection (something like inetd).
It requires a stub for native messaging app that connects to the server
and pass through requests and responses. Generally it does not differ
too much from D-Bus and ideally requires support from Firefox for robust
checks if particular add-on is allowed to run a specific app.

  I want to turn off the Firefox-Notifications for a complete Download.
  The small windows appears on the top right and says: "All Downloads
  are finished". With Firefox 27 you can turn this off if you go to
  about:config and change the line
  browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete to false. But with
  Firefox 28 this Notification-PopUp uses the notify-api from the
  operating system you're running.

  If i turned off all possibilitys in Linux Mint to hide notifications
  the pop up shows anyway.

  I expect that if i turn off all notifications this should go away and
  do not show after the download has finished.

  Problem: always

It looks like Ubuntu has fixed this, any chance we can get this on 34/35

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1946525] Re: Disks are not being mounted automatically

2021-10-23 Thread Björn Hutmacher
I have two machines, both upgraded to Ubuntu 21.10. Since the upgrade,
automounting removable media has stopped working completely on both of
these two. For regular USB disks, etc. I can mount them manually either
from the console or by using the Gnome Disks utility. However, I have no
idea about how I'm supposed to mount an MTP storage like my phone.

The USB devices are obviously being detected, but there seems to be no
mechanism active to mount it to the usual /media// path.

My results are consistent with no exceptions.
