[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955561] [NEW] Can't "Apply" after deselecting "Connect automatically" in Wi-Fi Settings

2021-12-22 Thread Josiah Luscher
Public bug reported:

On previous versions of Ubuntu after successfully creating a Wi-Fi
connection I could reopen the settings for the network, deselect
"Connect automatically" and "Make available to other users" then click
on Apply and these settings would say saved.

When initially creating the the Wi-Fi connection there is no opportunity
to deselect "Connect automatically" or "Make available to other users"
these settings can normally only be deselected after creating the
connection and reopening the network settings window.

On this brand new and updated installation of 20.04.3 LTS I am able to
deselect the check boxes; but the Apply button is grayed out, and
clicking on it has no effect.

In a terminal I can issue the command:
nmcli connection modify {NETWORKNAME} connection.autoconnect no

After rebooting the "Connect automatically" check box shows up as
deselected.

I think this is a bug, the user should be able to deselect these
settings and save the change by clicking apply. Also possibly opening
the settings window should check for changes without requiring a reboot,
but that's a secondary problem.

 - Thank you!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2021-12-22 Thread Joel Puig Rubio
Another one experiencing this issue on 20.04 LTS. I thought I'd broke my brand
new speakers.
Easily triggered by using the Discord app on Firefox. Please backport a patch
for this.
In the meantime, uncommented "DisableAutoSpawn" in
/etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf

Title:
  speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

Status in speech-dispatcher package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
So, a brand new computer running Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS.
In hardinfo summary, my audio adapters are
  • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI
  • HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
  • HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
In detail: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio
Controller (rev 06)
  Memory 16kb (non-prefetchable), snd_hda_intel

As soon as I load a website in Firefox that utilizes speech-dispatcher
(fimfiction.net) all sounds get distorted, whether I click a paragraph
for TTS reading or not. The problem seems to go away if I don't use
the site after a while. When I close down Firefox the problem still
lingers a bit, but maybe not as long. One thing I did which seemed
faster was close down everything, then load what I wanted to listen to
(Skype, Discord), and if it still persisted I would go into "Sound
Settings" and after a few blinks in that window the sound is normal
  again.

While the site is open, according to "Sound Settings" (from the
speaker icon menu) and Pulse Audio Volume Controller (pavu) there are
4 copies of this package. Muting them did not help the problem, but
moving one of them, and a very specific one, from the "Built-in Audio
Analog Stereo" to something else like HDA NVidia (HDMI 3) seems to be
  a workaround.

Just so you know, I do not use the HDMI cable for sound, but instead
use the "headphones" jack. If you need any more details, I'll try to
  provide them.

  /Edward

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955566] [NEW] iris driver doesn't load correctly

2021-12-22 Thread jeremyszu
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * iris driver doesn't load with pci_id 4688. Instead, it uses llvm.
we expect the Intel GPU uses iris driver.

[Test Plan]

 * $ DISPLAY=:0 glxinfo | grep -i opengl
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa/X.org
OpenGL renderer string: llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.0, 256 bits)
...
OpenGL version string: 3.1 Mesa 21.0.3

 * After applying the fix, it shows:

 * $ DISPLAY=:0 glxinfo | grep -i opengl
OpenGL vendor string: Intel
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa Intel(R) Graphics (ADL-S GT1)
...
OpenGL version string: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 21.0.3 (git-d4975a0dbc)

[Where problems could occur]

 * This patch is backport the PCI ID mapping for enabling iris driver which is
expected when users have a GPU.
 * If there is any issue occur then we need to fix it with iris driver.

[Other Info]

 * It already in upstream and we have a platform which using ADL-HX in OEM
project. Thus, we need to enable iris on it at least on focal.
 * The patch is simple as to add "CHIPSET(0x4688, adl_gt1, "ADL-S GT1",
"Intel(R) Graphics")" in "include/pci_ids/iris_pci_ids.h".

"Intel(R) Graphics")" in "include/pci_ids/iris_pci_ids.h".
   * Patch backported from df5b14969f9869f363bcc8b2a564c85aaa481597

Title:
Firefox instance opens with an unusable window that has the content
area filled with the frozen image of the window/desktop image in the
  background

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After a recent Firefox update (I think this started after the Firefox
95 upgrade), opening Firefox often opens a window with a visible title
bar that indicates that the application in focus is Firefox but the
content area is invisible because it has the frozen image/background
of either the windows/application behind the Firefox window or the
desktop background image if there are no windows behind Firefox.

The Firefox shortcut keys work and I am able to open a site by
pressing Ctrl+L to focus the address bar and type a domain name/URL.
The website/URL loads okay but nothing is visible because of the
content area being hidden by the frozen image.

Resizing/minimizing+maximizing the Firefox window doesn't resolve this
issue. However, when I launch Firefox from the terminal, it works
properly every single time. So it looks like there might be some issue
only when launching from the Firefox application launcher (.desktop
  file).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1945368]

2021-12-22 Thread Richard Leger
As some work was undertaken regarding the null entry, I would suggest
FIXED. If someone still encounter the calendar empty issue upon upgrade
with newer version of TB then opening a separate follow up bug may be
best to further investigate, referencing this bug for info. Unless
anyone has objections and further useful feedback to help fix what ever
remaining issue may have been left behind.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1878094] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 / Pulseaudio RTP receive broken sound

2021-12-22 Thread Dmitry Mikhailov
You can rebuild 13.99-1 RTP modules without GStreamer support as per
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues/889

If you can't wait for fix you can grab prebuilt library binaries from
there although I'm against using unsigned untested 3rd-party binaries in
production. Works for me.

Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 / Pulseaudio RTP receive broken sound

Status in PulseAudio:
  Unknown
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
just upgraded some of my computers to Ubuntu 20.04, also tried with
fresh install, in all case the pulseaudio rtp receive module is giving
  me very poor sound.

Easily reproducible on a single machine :

  pacmd load-module module-null-sink sink_name=MyNullSink
  pacmd load-module module-rtp-send source=MyNullSink.monitor loop=true
  pacmd load-module module-rtp-recv

And then play something in the null sink, loopback sound will be bad
  (lags).

What I noticed : if I open the rtp stream with vlc, it's ok, sound is
  good.

Ubuntu 20 uses PulseAudio 13.99, aka (I guess) PulseAudio 14 which
implements RTP through gstreamer, which is new.

So I tested my rtp stream with gstreamer:

  gst-launch-1.0 udpsrc address=224.0.0.56 port=46586
  caps="application/x-rtp, media=audio, payload=10, clock-rate=44100" !
  .recv_rtp_sink_0 rtpbin ! rtpL16depay ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
  pulsesink

And it works fine, so I definitively believe there is an issue in the
new module-rtp-recv.so bundled with PulseAudio and that is now based
  on gstreamer.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955586] [NEW] Revert "layout: Exclude hidden actors from struts"

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955587] [NEW] temporary freeze on login screen

2021-12-22 Thread Lubor Zelinka
Public bug reported:

On resume from sleep (suspend), 21.10 login screen from gdm3
41~rc-0ubuntu2 is displayed but the GUI freezes instantly for about
10-20 seconds. The WiFi indicator in top right corner is missing, when
it appears the GUI is again responsive and I can type password or do
anything else. This doesn't occur when on wired LAN (docked).

The system is Lenovo Yoga P40 laptop, WiFi is Intel 8260 dual
WiFi/Bluetooth card. Turning Bluetooth on or off has no effect on this
behavior, turning Wi-Fi off before suspending removes the problem.

As a newcomer, I am not sure what other information should I attach,
please let me know what additional info would be helpful.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955589] [NEW] wireguard connectrion doesn't create route to server ip

2021-12-22 Thread Paweł Dembicki
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 21.10
Release:21.10

Wireguard from network-manager deosn't create route to server ip. It's a
problem when "allowed ips" '0.0.0.0/0' are used.

Steps to reproduce:
Create wireguard connection with 0.0.0.0/0

Steps to workaround:
add route 'ip ro add via '

Example:

root@laptop:/home/krolik# nmcli

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 901353] Re: Brother QL-650TD only prints garbage

2021-12-22 Thread Cardella
Hello.

As this is a 32bits printer driver, you must do the following steps:

Download the actual drivers on Brother website.
Open the terminal and use the commands:

sudo apt remove printer-driver-ptouch

sudo apt-get install lib32z1

sudo dpkg -i --force-all ql650tdlpr-1.0.1-0.i386.deb

sudo dpkg -i --force-all ql650tdcupswrapper-1.0.1-0.i386.deb

You will be able to use the printer now.
PS: I tested on 3 devices with Ubuntu 20.04 and it worka perfect on all them.

  Brother QL-650TD only prints garbage

Status in ptouch-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
The Brother QL-650TD label printer is correctly recognized by Ubuntu
  and auto-installed.

However printing anything on it results in the printer printing

As the proprietary driver doesn't work either with current versions of

Bug description:

  What happens:

terminal deduces that it is an email and if you right click it, you
are given the option to 'Copy Mail Address' and 'Send Mail To' instead

  What should happen:

You should, instead, be given the option to 'Copy Fedi Address' (and,
better yet, optionally 'Send DM To') instead of just 'Copy'. Possibly
including the 'Copy Mail Address', for backwards compatibility

  username@hostname

  What happens:

if you have a fediverse user displayed in your terminal, gnome-
terminal deduces that it is an email and if you right click it, you
are given the option to 'Copy Mail Address' and 'Send Mail To' instead
  of just 'Copy'

  What should happen:

You should, instead, be given the option to 'Copy Fedi Address' (and,
better yet, optionally 'Send DM To') instead of just 'Copy'. Possibly
including the 'Copy Mail Address', for backwards compatibility

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884122] Re: xclock -digital shows seconds but redraws on the minute

2021-12-22 Thread themusicgod1
seems like a simple enough fix, at the end of the day: just change the
default timeout to something sensible

xclock -digital shows seconds but redraws on the minute

Status in x11-apps package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
i.e., on start it will show, e.g. "Mon 31 Oct 2011 09:17:15 GMT"

Oct 2011 09:18:00 GMT" for a minute, etc.

It redraws to show the correct time, including seconds, when the
window is resized. Window manager is Unity, version as of oneric-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955579] [NEW] Text disappears in GNOME Shell 3.36.9

2021-12-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bug occurs when staying in one of the voice channels on Discord for
prolonged periods of time.

I have also reported the bug in
[here](https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/3442#issuecomment-997984435)
and [here](https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/4889)

OS Information:
Linux Kernel version: 5.4.0-91-generic
Distribution release: Ubuntu 20.04
Distribution version: 20.04.3 LTS

DE Information:
GNOME version: 3
GNOME Shell version: 3.36.9

Display Server Information:
Display Server: X11
Display Server Version: X.Org 1.20.11

Display Manager Information:
Display Manager: gdm3

Processor Information:
Hardware: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6100 CPU @3.70GHz
Cores: 2
Threads: 4

Video Card Information:
Hardware: NVIDIA Corporation: GM206 [GeForce GTX 950]
Driver: nvidia-driver-470 (proprietary, tested)

Here's one of the best ways to reproduce this issue:
1. Open Discord
2. Enter into any voice channel on Discord and just stay there for a day, it
may range from 30 minutes to 24 hours for it to occur.

Expected results:
The text shouldn't vanish from the desktop environment and it shouldn't cause
any graphical issues. Instead, if anything stops working, it should reload! And
the Settings app should open without crashing.

Actual results:
The text vanishes from the desktop environment and/or other graphical errors
occur, and the GNOME settings app crashes upon attempting to open.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955594] [NEW] "Show Applications" does not permit scrolling through installed apps.

2021-12-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I select "Show Applications" to view all installed apps in Gnome on Ubuntu
20.04.3 LTS, the window does not allow me to scroll through the installed
applications. After doing some testing, I discovered that this is related to
me having "Fractional Scaling" enabled with a setting of 125% in the display
settings. I am using a 4K display and use this setting to make windows and text
appear larger on the screen.
If I set the scaling to 100% or simply disable Fractional Scaling, I am able to
scroll through the list of installed apps normally. All other fractional
scaling settings (100%, 150%, 175% and 200%) work perfectly. Only 125% is
affected.
For reference, my display resolution is set to 3840x2180 @ 60Hz.
It is kind of late in the life of this release to do much about this, but I
thought I should pass this info along.
