[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1946987] Re: Regression: Nvidia 340 Xorg driver is installed but not loaded after OS upgrade

2022-01-09 Thread Jarno Suni

   Status: New

Title:
Regression: Nvidia 340 Xorg driver is installed but not loaded after
  OS upgrade

Status in Light Display Manager:
  New
Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-340 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I tried both nouveau and nvidia-340 drivers. It used to work at least
by the latter one in Xubuntu 18.04, even with HWE kernel

  When using the nvidia-340 driver:
  $ xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
  Screen 0: minimum 1920 x 1200, current 1920 x 1200, maximum 1920 x 1200
  default connected 1920x1200+0+0 0mm x 0mm
     1920x1200 77.00*

A device is connected in HDMI and xrand does not even list the
connector. When using nouveau, HDMI is listed but it shows as
  disconnected.

  WORKAROUND when using nvidia driver:
Log out of session. Then lightdm screen shows on both monitors. And if I then
log in to a session, the extrernal monitor works there, too.

If I use Budgie Desktop instead of Xfce as desktop environment, it
will automatically log out to the LightDM login screen, if I first try
to start that Budgie session and then the HDMI output is used as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1956865] [NEW] [snap] firefox webauthn not working with tomu u2f

2022-01-09 Thread Max
Public bug reported:

Similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1947746/ using
webauthn with my tomu device did not work out of the box.

The device id does not seem to be registered. Adding
/etc/udev/rules.d/10-tomu.rules with
```
ACTION=="add|change", KERNEL=="hidraw*", SUBSYSTEM=="hidraw",
ATTRS{idVendor}=="16d0", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0e90", TAG+="uaccess"
TAG+="snap_firefox_firefox"
ACTION=="add|change", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="16d0",
ATTRS{idProduct}=="0e90", TAG+="uaccess"
```
fixed this.

It used to work fine following the instructions from
https://github.com/gl-sergei/u2f-token with the .deb package.

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Title:
On Wayland toolbar menus are sometimes invisible/flickering

Status in Mozilla Firefox:
  Invalid
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:91.0)
  Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0

  Steps to reproduce:

Open Downloads panel, Library or Application menu form the Toolbar by
  clicking on the corresponding icons.

  Actual results:

From version 90 I noticed that Library or other items in the Toolbar
won't open when I click it. Instead it flickers a few times on mouse
movement - it looks like it opens but it's not visible, it becomes
visible a fraction of a second when I move the mouse otherwise it's
  completely transparent.

Which Toolbar icon this affects seems random. I tried to fix it by
resetting the Toolbar and disabling extensions which have icons in the
Toolbar. Then I noticed that Library was working normal again but
Downloads or Application Menu wouldn't open.

When this happened with the Application Menu I could barely see the
contents of the menu by moving the mouse which made the menu flicker.
The cursor was able to select menu items in the menu but it was
  completely transparent.

In the enclosed screenshot you can see I selected the Library menu
  item but it isn't opened.

  Expected results:

The menus in the Toolbar should open like they used to.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1956875] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic, recording] Recording problem: Headset mic not detected

2022-01-09 Thread Lorenzo Tapia Schulze
Public bug reported:

In my laptop (Huawei MateBook 14 2020 AMD R5, Model KLVL-WFH9) there is a
single 3.5mm jack port which allows audio input and output. I've got a headset
with a single cable, sound can be heard very good, microphone is not detected.
The disk runs Windows 10 in one partition and in the other one Ubuntu 20.04. I
also had trouble with Windows in recognizing the headset's mic but now that has
been solved. However, in Ubuntu it is only detected and "categorized" as
Headphone. There is no way to use the microphone of the headset.
I've tried to find some similar issues but nothing has helped me so far.
Thanks in advance,
Lorenzo

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1953612] Re: Desktop Mouse Right Click -> COPY/PASTE Reuslt NOTHING

2022-01-09 Thread Itai
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1948008 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1948008

** Description changed:

  Hi,
I know the Gnome Shell extension "Desktop Icons" cause much irrational
behavior under Ubuntu 20.04.

But, coping some file on the ubuntu's desktop (right click -> copy) and
then paste in any other folder used to work perfectly so far.

I've noticed that since yesterday, this feature isn't functional
  anymore.

I can copy via right click easily, but when it comes to paste the
file/folder, the paste option is unavailable (grayed out).

  Desktop permissions: drwxrwxrwx

  I know https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/focal/+bug/1852183 bug
and I think my ubuntu's strange behavior deserve a new bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1941752] Re: Regression: exiv2 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5 makes Gwenview crash when opening images exported by darktable

Status in gwenview package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since the recent security update of exiv2, Gwenview crashes when
trying to open image files that got exported by darktable.

  Steps to reproduce:

  * Make a test installation of Kubuntu 21.04 in VirtualBox
  * Install all updates
  * Install darktable
  * Copy one of the images in /usr/share/wallpapers (or any other image) to
your home directory and open it with darktable
  * Within darktable, export a copy of the image (no need to do any actual
modifications)
  * Try to open that copy with Gwenview. Gwenview will crash.

I'm attaching a crash report hinting that this is related to exiv2.

  Temporary workaround:
If I downgrade libexiv2-27 to 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.4, Gwenview doesn't crash, so
it seems the crash is related to changes in 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5.

I don't know if the underlying cause is actually some bug in exiv2,
  Gwenview or darktable.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1951599] Re: gnome-shell logs errors when ejecting SD card

2022-01-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Ubuntu-dock is problematic in that only Marco has commit access so
usually we're waiting for him on that. Otherwise if we distro-patch then
it's out of sync with git.

Also I feel like the above fix should have resolved other bugs in
Launchpad but can't find any linked.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1856838] Re: [memory leak] gnome-shell using a lot of RAM after repeatedly opening the overview

2022-01-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Erik,

Please open the Extensions app and tell us what you have enabled. Please
also run:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then log in again to ensure there are none locally installed.

If the problem still happens then please run:

  gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1956888] Re: can't manually sort bookmarks anymore

2022-01-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1956888

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

(the bug title also mentions SORT, however you description instead talks
about drag & drop? Which is your issue? or why the difference? Please
clarify).

My apologies if this does not belong in mutter but because it happens
in multiple applications, it's my best guess.

This is a weird bug because I don't know what causes it but it happens
consistently after normal usage which for me means several times
leaving the laptop idle and unlocking.

If I leave gnome-terminal and/or evince open, eventually any UI action
like switching from multiple tabs, opening context menu etc will
  output the following to journal

  gnome-terminal-[2393]: ../../../../../gdk/x11/gdkwindow-x11.c:5653
drawable is not a native X11 window

  evince[3213]: ../../../../../gdk/x11/gdkwindow-x11.c:5653 drawable is
  not a native X11 window

I suspect this may happen with other gtk apps as well. This persists
until each individual app is restarted.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1956888] Re: can't manually sort bookmarks anymore

2022-01-09 Thread Saroumane
Thank you for taking the time to study this bug report.

"Drag and drop" is indeed the way I usually sort out my bookmarks. I
know there is a "sort by name" option (I won't try it).

I'm very sorry but I won't use any apport command, for classic privacy
reasons. (But I can provide any logs, if it's "human-readable" and I can
sanitize it by myself)

2022-01-09 Thread Saroumane
If it may help : I created a new user on my system, and I reproduced the
problem. I'll try to reproduce it from Ubuntu 21.10 "live USB" : right
after the boot (if chromium is available) and with the latest chromium.

[amdgpu] kernel 5.13.0-23 seems to cause graphics driver issues

Status in Ubuntu Budgie:
  Invalid
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After updating to kernel 5.13.0-23 I started having issues. Startup
  and logging are extremely slow.

When I try to run firefox a dialog box shows up saying it is not
respondig and asking to wait or forcequit. If a wait it eventually
opens (after over a minute) and seems to work correctly. Similar
issues occur when trying to run mpv. In some cases the computer might
  even hang completely.

  I am running Ubuntu Budgie 21.10 (budgie-desktop 10.5.3). I also have
Xmonad installed. Xmonad starts much quicker but has the same issues
  when running applications.

The problems seem to be solved by booting with kernel 5.13.0-22 or
  kernel 5.13.0-23 with nomodeset.

I am using an HP computer with an AMD Ryzen 3 cpu with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx.

Bug description:
My laptop, HP model 17-y028cy, does not resume after the display has

display does turn on, but nothing is displayed on my screen. It
doesn't appear to respond to any key presses so I have to force it to
power down and back up by holding the power button until it shuts off.

Are you saying this is fixed via Gnome update? I've only seen the bug in
Thunderbird

  Same problem in safe mode.
  Description:
By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task.
When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending mail
apparently close the windows, but gnome shell continue to show multiple
"points", as if multiple windows are still active.
And after closing TB, it seems maintained in the same state, so it becomes
impossible to relaunch it from the desk. But task manager of "looking glass"
does not show it and it is possible to launch from terminal.
  Provisional solution:
Modify .desktop file to launch with --display=:0 option, that force to use
XWayland interface, as shown by xlsclients (for example).
But it is actually a bug under Wayland context, that also badly interfer with
many add-ons or extensions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1932328]

2022-01-09 Thread Ddl-github
I was just relaying what I found reported in a different thread on this
bug. I can't personally confirm the gnome patch is effective, because
Pop 21.10 uses gnome 40.5, and I don't have time to try to build from
source. Hopefully it will be gone in 22.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955932] Re: ps5 controller no longer working

2022-01-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've just set up a brand new PS5 controller (via Bluetooth) on Ubuntu
20.04 with kernel 5.11.0-44-generic and 'sudo evtest' seems to show it
is working. It reports events for almost all the buttons.

Re-reading your bug report I think you have a problem specific to Steam.

The errors you mention from Xorg (gdm-x-session[1946]: (II) ...) are
probably not relevant and should be ignored.

  Hello!

Up until today, my playstation 5 controller worked great with ubuntu +

Now, I can get the controller connected via bluetooth, and I can use

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1938998] Re: [vmwgfx] Update to mesa and xorg-server causes Cinnamon desktop to not render properly

2022-01-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Since this was update-related and 5 months ago we should ask: Is the
problem still present?

Title:
[vmwgfx] Update to mesa and xorg-server causes Cinnamon desktop to not
  render properly

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On a VMWare Workstation VM running Linux Mint 20.1 (64-bit) with
Cinnamon 4.8.6 or Linux Mint 20.2 (64-bit) with Cinnamon 5.0.5,
upgrading to a specific mesa and xorg-server version, followed by a
system restart, led to the Cinnamon desktop not rendering correctly,
such that the desktop was unusable. The rendering problem is that
icons and menus are displayed as grey rectangles and it's not possible
  to see what they are.

I believe the problem is in one of these packages:

  * mesa 21.0.3-0ubuntu0.2-20.04.1
  * xorg-server 2:1.20.11-1ubuntu1-20.04.2

Restoring the system from backup, and then upgrading but omitting the above
two updates and restarting, the system behaves as expected. It's not
immediately clear which of these packages is causing the problem.
