Bug description:
  The regression from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-
  drivers-common/+bug/1942789.

It impacts Jammy and Impish so far.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Find a GPU supports nvidia-390
  2. ubuntu-drivers install nvidia:390
  3. prime-select on-demand
  4. glxinfo

  [Expected result]
Shows intel or nvidia drives monitor

  [Actual result]
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig

Since we are all agree "on-demand" mode as default mode.
Pre-talk with Alberto, on-demand doesn't support with nvidia-390 (no matter
RTD3).
We could consider to make it as performance mode and leave a note on
nvidia-settings.
  I'll prepare some test packages.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1957181] Re: Xorg freeze

2022-01-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

It sounds like GNOME (in the mutter component) has frozen. When this
happens the cursor will still move because it is managed by the Xorg
process, but the screen contents are managed by the gnome-shell process.

Please try removing DisplayLink from the equation by unplugging your
dock or any other USB display adapter. Does the bug still occur using
only the laptop screen?

** Tags added: displaylink evdi

Bug description:
When having more than one window open, e.g. Firefox and a terminal and
then to swap between the two. The clicking with the mouse stops
working but it still moves. For instance when I hover over text or not
the cursor does not change. Sometimes I can still click or select text
in the original window but the coordinates of the mouse are not where
the cursor is displayed. Sometimes the keyboard dies too e.g. Alt+F2
does not work. Killing XOrg (if possible) seems to revert things to a
  working state.

  https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2021-43860

  [Impact]
  Versions in Ubuntu right now:
  Jammy: 1.12.2-2
  Impish: 1.10.2-3ubuntu0.1
  Focal: 1.6.5-0ubuntu0.4
  Bionic: 1.0.9-0ubuntu0.4

  Affected versions:
  all

  Patched versions:
  1.12.3, 1.10.6

  [Test Case]
  Unknown

  [Regression Potential]
Flatpak has a test suite, which is run on build across all relevant
architectures and passes.

There is also a manual test plan
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlan/flatpak .

  Flatpak has autopkgtests enabled
  http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/f/flatpak .

Regression potential is low, and upstream is very responsive to any
  issues raised.

  [Patches]
There are two separate github advisories but only one of them has a CVE.

The advisory with the CVE has 5 patches, the other has 2 patches.

  [Other Information]

For the first advisory with the CVE:

Ryan Gonzalez discovered that Flatpak doesn't properly validate that
the permissions displayed to the user for an app at install time match
the actual permissions granted to the app at runtime, in the case that
there's a null byte in the metadata file of an app. Therefore apps can
grant themselves permissions without the consent of the user.

Flatpak shows permissions to the user during install by reading them
from the "xa.metadata" key in the commit metadata. This cannot contain
a null terminator, because it is an untrusted GVariant. Flatpak
compares these permissions to the actual metadata, from the "metadata"
file to ensure it wasn't lied to.

However, the actual metadata contents are loaded in several places
where they are read as simple C-style strings. That means that, if the
metadata file includes a null terminator, only the content of the file
from before the terminator gets compared to xa.metadata. Thus, any
permissions that appear in the metadata file after a null terminator
are applied at runtime but not shown to the user. Maliciously crafted
apps can use this to give themselves hidden permissions.

In addition, a similar weakness was discovered, where if the
permissions in the summary metadata are invalid, they would not be
displayed to the user, but the the actual permissions would be
granted, even though it didn't match the invalid version.

  For the second advisory:

flatpak-builder applies finish-args last in the build. At this point
the build directory will have the full access that is specified in the
manifest, so running flatpak build against it will gain that
permissions. Normally this will not be done, so this is not problem.
However, if --mirror-screenshots-url is specified, then flatpak-
builder will launch flatpak build --nofilesystem=host appstream-utils
mirror-screenshots after finalization, which can lead to issues even
  with the --nofilesystem=host protection.

These changes result in a behaviour change as debian have noted in
  their changelog:

* Behaviour changes, as a result of how GHSA-8ch7-5j3h-g4fx was fixed:
  - --nofilesystem=host is now special-cased to negate all --filesystem
permissions. Previously, it would cancel out --filesystem=host but
not --filesystem=/some/dir.
  - --nofilesystem=home is now special-cased to negate several
home-directory-related filesystem permssions such as
--filesystem=xdg-config/foo, not just --filesystem=host.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1957455] [NEW] Failure connecting to ap setup with a mode

2022-01-12 Thread Paul Larson
Public bug reported:

One of the tests we run for the network manager snap uncovered this
problem on uc18 with network-manager 1.10 snap, but I've also been able
to reproduce it in the previous snap version, as well as with core20 and
with focal.

On a laptop with intel wifi card, we installed a fresh image (see above) and
network-manager snap or deb as appropriate. The most straightforward way to
run the test we are using, for example with Ubuntu core 18:
$ sudo snap install checkbox --devmode --channel=uc18/stable

After it is installed:
$ cd /snap/checkbox18/current/providers/plainbox-provider-checkbox/bin
$ ./wifi_nmcli_test.py ap wlan0 a

NB: in the above example, replace wlan0 with the correct device if it's
something else, and replace uc18 track and checkbox18 directory as
appropriate, if you are using uc20 or focal use the uc20 track.

This test uses network-manager to create an ap, then tries to connect to
it.

Output with uc18: https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/CBFqj2Mcgr/
Output with focal: https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/4Shm6pWzpM/

This test can also run in bg mode, and works fine with that. So the test
itself works, and network-manager seems to be able to create an AP in
some mode, but it doesn't seem to work with a

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1956838] Re: drag and drop broken chromium snap

2022-01-12 Thread Tom
I can confirm the two cases from above since the latest update.

In addition a 3rd one:
Tab-dropping (to move an tab back into the tab bar) doesn't work either.

Expected behavior as before:
1. drag a tab outside the browser window to get a new window (works now)
2. drag a tab into another browser windows to let it join the new window
(broken)

Suggest to set importance to Medium

Thx

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1957094] Re: on-demand mode doesn't work with nvidia-390

2022-01-12 Thread Alberto Milone
This should be fixed in Jammy now:

ubuntu-drivers-common (1:0.9.4) jammy; urgency=medium

  [ Michael Hudson-Doyle ]
  * UbuntuDrivers/detect.py:
- Optimize packages_for_modalias by compiling all the Modaliases
into one big regexp that can be used to quickly reject most
  devices.

  [ Alberto Milone ]
  * UbuntuDrivers/kerneldetection.py:
- Improve performance of _get_linux_metapackage.
  * gpu-manager.c:
- Fall back from on-demand to on if nvidia < 450.

  [ Jeremy Szu ]
  * ubiquity/target-config/31ubuntu_driver_packages:
- Install nvidia-prime in eariler stage.

  ---

  It's because ubiquity launches `ubuntu-drivers install --packages-list
...` in live system but install each package to target storage.

When installing nvidia-prime, the preinst set "on" to "/etc/prime-
discrete" which will be referred by gpu-manager. The gpu-manager will
  set to performance mode.

After confirming with Alberto on Mattermost, since we don't have a
nvidia driver which lower than 450 version since focal.

I think we are ok to switch to on-demand mode.

  ---

  [Impact]

   * Ubuntu will set GPU mode to performance as default which may use more power
   * User can't use GPU for other purpose (eg: deep-learning) if RTD3 is not
supported
   * According to Nvidia README, the RTD3 doesn't support on non-laptop machine

  [Test Plan]

   * Install Ubuntu, and then execute 'ubuntu-drivers install' to install GPU
driver. After the installation, reboot the system. Execute "prime-select query"
should get "on-demand"
   * On non-laptop machine. Can set GPU mode to on-demand
   * On laptop with GPU in runtime PM support list. Set GPU mode to on-demand
and Nvidia driver is loaded with "NVreg_DynamicPowerManagement=0x02"

  [Where problems could occur]

   * on-demand mode combined two features which are GPU offloading and RTD3.
Nvidia driver lower then 450 (nvidia-driver-390) does not supported RTD3 and
only have GPU offloading feature.
   * With GPU supported RTD3 not able enable runtime PM on non-laptop. But
based on the Nvidia README, this case shall not happened.

  [Other Info]

  X-HWE-Bug: Bug #1946434

  Changelogs:

Title:
   [SRU] libreoffice 7.2.5 for impish

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Impish:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.2.5 is in its fifth bugfix release of the 7.2 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.2#7.2.5_release

   * Version 7.2.3 is currently released in impish. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.2.3 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.2.5
(that's a total of 90 bugs):
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.5/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/7.2.5/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_72/1263/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of 90 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1957181] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2022-01-12 Thread Simon
Public bug reported:

When having more than one window open, e.g. Firefox and a terminal and
then to swap between the two. The clicking with the mouse stops working
but it still moves. For instance when I hover over text or not the
cursor does not change. Sometimes I can still click or select text in
the original window but the coordinates of the mouse are not where the
cursor is displayed. Sometimes the keyboard dies too e.g. Alt+F2 does
not work. Killing XOrg (if possible) seems to revert things to a working
state.

Title:
On Wayland toolbar menus are sometimes invisible/flickering

Status in Mozilla Firefox:

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:91.0)
  Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0

  Steps to reproduce:

Open Downloads panel, Library or Application menu form the Toolbar by
  clicking on the corresponding icons.

  Actual results:

From version 90 I noticed that Library or other items in the Toolbar
won't open when I click it. Instead it flickers a few times on mouse
movement - it looks like it opens but it's not visible, it becomes
visible a fraction of a second when I move the mouse otherwise it's
  completely transparent.

Which Toolbar icon this affects seems random. I tried to fix it by
resetting the Toolbar and disabling extensions which have icons in the
Toolbar. Then I noticed that Library was working normal again but
Downloads or Application Menu wouldn't open.

When this happened with the Application Menu I could barely see the
contents of the menu by moving the mouse which made the menu flicker.
The cursor was able to select menu items in the menu but it was
  completely transparent.

In the enclosed screenshot you can see I selected the Library menu
  item but it isn't opened.

  Expected results:

The menus in the Toolbar should open like they used to.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1941752]

Title:
Regression: exiv2 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5 makes Gwenview crash when opening
  images exported by darktable

Status in Gwenview:

Status in exiv2 package in Ubuntu:

Status in gwenview package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Since the recent security update of exiv2, Gwenview crashes when
trying to open image files that got exported by darktable.

  Steps to reproduce:

  * Make a test installation of Kubuntu 21.04 in VirtualBox
  * Install all updates
  * Install darktable
  * Copy one of the images in /usr/share/wallpapers (or any other image) to
your home directory and open it with darktable
  * Within darktable, export a copy of the image (no need to do any actual
modifications)
  * Try to open that copy with Gwenview. Gwenview will crash.

I'm attaching a crash report hinting that this is related to exiv2.

  Temporary workaround:
If I downgrade libexiv2-27 to 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.4, Gwenview doesn't crash, so
it seems the crash is related to changes in 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5.

I don't know if the underlying cause is actually some bug in exiv2,
  Gwenview or darktable.

  Kind regards, Jan

Bug description:
  * Impact

The clipboard copies from GTK based software sometime stop working
  under wayland

  * Test Case

  - in a wayland session try to copy text between software, from firefox

alternative testcase inspired from the gitlab ticket
  - install wl-clipboard
  - use evince to open a pdf
  - select and copy some content
  - on a cmdline do
  $ wl-paste -t TEXT
  - try to paste then in another software, gedit for example

the copied text should be pasted

  * Regression potential

The changes are in the wayland selection source so the impact should
only be for wayland users and limited to clipboard interactions

  Version 84.0.2
  Build ID 20210105180113

  Desktop Environment gnome

  DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM:

If I copy text from a web page and try to paste it into another
Firefox page, the text is pasted correctly.

If I copy text from a web page and try to paste it in [gedit,
libreoffice, thunderbird, terminal, slack (electron)] nothing happens.
The Gnome Clipboard extension stays empty when content is copied from
  Firefox Wayland.

Pasting *from* another app *to* Firefox works fine.

Title:
[snap] apparmor warning when using chromedriver

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hello,

I noticed my logs are flooded by the following messages when using the
  chromedriver snap (95.0.4638.69):

  AVC apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
  profile="snap.chromium.chromedriver" name="/proc/2749786/mem"
  pid=2749786 comm="bef84659f723721" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r"
  fsuid=1001 ouid=1001

I managed to fix it by adding the following line in
  /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.chromium.chromedriver :

  owner @{PROC}/@{pid}/mem r,

  and then running :

  sudo apparmor_parser -r
  /var/lib/snapd/apparmor/profiles/snap.chromium.chromedriver

However I understand this change will get overwritten every time the
snap is updated, so it would make sense to add this line in the snap
  package itself.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1956949] Re: CPC AWS jammy builds fail with: "fuse3 : Breaks: fuse"

2022-01-12 Thread Paride Legovini
@Bernd "not being seeded" means that unionfs-fuse isn't in the set of
packages that define what goes into the Ubuntu 'main' component. In
summary this is done by choosing some "seed" packages and computing
their (build-)dependency tree, see [1,2] if you want to know more.

Automatic syncing of unionfs-fuse from Debian won't happen at the moment
because the package in Ubuntu has Ubuntu specific changes. By looking at
the package changelog these are:

* No change rebuild to pick up -fPIE compiler default
* Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #1476699). Remaining changes:
  - debian/control: Add Multi-Arch: foreign.

Of course only the second one is a "real" change. If you can add

  Multi-Arch: foreign

to d/control in Debian then we can make unionfs-fuse auto-sync again to
Ubuntu. See [3,4] for more details in Multi-Arch.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1913775] Re: Copy from Firefox Wayland fails to be pasted anywhere else

2022-01-12 Thread bluppfisk
I would also like to request a port of this fix to impish and hirsute.

I've currently worked around this by upgrading gtk+3.0 in a probably
slightly unorthodox way, but I'd much prefer if the package was offered
through the official Ubuntu impish repository.

A very annoying GTK bug (which breaks copying and pasting, the
computer user's favourite activity) has been fixed in GTK 3.24.31.
Unfortunately, Ubuntu 21.10 is still stuck on 3.24.30. I'd think that
making 3.24.31 available wouldn't break much, but would help a lot of
  us out.

Can this be 'backported' (is this the correct jargon?) or am I better
off upgrading to Jammy Jellyfish even though it's still unstable?

  [Impact]

This is the last point-release of the 21.2.x-series, we should put it
in impish so latest bugfixes would get there, and in focal for 20.04.4
  image.

  [Test case]

Install the updates, test desktop use and some basic games etc on at
  least AMD and Intel hw.

  [Where things could go wrong]

It's possible that some apps (like games) might regress on some hw,
but there should not be a big risk for more wider bugs appearing in
this update, since upstream and vendor (Intel) CI machinery have
  tested these.

Some laptops can generate multiple rfkill events from a single key press.

  [Fix]
Commit f4dbcf3d7b0f951fe44b29229206c97b625dbfda ("media-keys: Add one second
delay between each rfkill event").
The commit adds a delay between each rkfill events to only process the first
event and debounce the later ones.

  [Test]
On HP ZBook G7, use `libinput debug-events` to observe there are two rfkill
events on single key press. Airplane mode will be enabled and disabled in a
very short period, so the airplane mode cannot be turned off by the hotkey
anymore.

After applying the fix, pressing airplane mode hotkey can enable or
  disable airplane mode correctly.

  [Where problems could occur]
Since the delay is hardcoded as 1 second, the airplane mode cannot be
switched on/of in a very short time anymore.
