[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1962800] [NEW] It goes into black screen for more than 20 seconds when increase default resolution to max available 1360 * 768 for ubuntu 22.04 daily build desktop in ESXi
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Summary: - It goes into black screen for about 20 seconds when increase Guest OS default resolution to max available resolution 1360 * 768 for ubuntu 22.04 daily build desktop in ESXi. After about 20 seconds later, it restore to previous screen resolution. Reproduce: - 1. create VM with default settings(video memory 4MB)and install guest OS with ubuntu 22.04 daily build 27-Feb-2022 images in ESXi 2. we login system after finish installation and rebooting VM 3. Select Virtual Machine -> Settings -> Display, select the max available resolution 1360 * 768 and click "Apply button". The screen get black for about 20 seconds and then restore to previous screen resolution. Expected Results: - For step 3, we expect the max available resolution 1360 * 768 screen resolution works well. If the default video memory 4MB is not enough to support 1360 * 768 and it needs to restore previous resolution, it seems long to stay black for 20 seconds. ** Affects: screen-resolution-extra (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: bot-comment -- It goes into black screen for more than 20 seconds when increase default resolution to max available 1360 * 768 for ubuntu 22.04 daily build desktop in ESXi https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962800 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to screen-resolution-extra in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969243] Re: gdm 42.0-1ubuntu4 no longer shows Wayland option
This bug was fixed in the package gdm3 - 42.0-1ubuntu6 --- gdm3 (42.0-1ubuntu6) jammy; urgency=medium * Fix Wayland no longer being available for everyone - Fix by adding a separate revert patch instead of trying to rebase the cherry-picked patches (LP: #1969243) * Please note that Wayland is not currently available for systems using the Nvidia graphics drivers because those drivers don't properly handle suspend and resuming from suspend. It is intended for those drivers to be fixed in a future stable release update for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. See bug 1968929 -- Jeremy Bicha Fri, 15 Apr 2022 21:02:08 -0400 ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu Jammy) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969243 Title: gdm 42.0-1ubuntu4 no longer shows Wayland option Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in gdm3 source package in Jammy: Fix Released Bug description: Impact -- Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 no longer offers Wayland Test Case - Install the update on a desktop or laptop without Nvidia or hybrid graphics that normally supports Wayland. Restart the computer. On the login screen, select your name. A gear button should appear in the bottom right giving you the option for Ubuntu or Ubuntu on Xorg. Continue logging in to the Ubuntu session. After log in, open the Settings app. Click at the bottom of the sidebar to open the About panel. The Windowing system should say Wayland. Note It is known that Wayland is not currently offered for Nvidia because the Nvidia drivers don't meet GNOME's standards for suspend and resuming from suspend. It is intended that that will be fixed in a stable release update for 22.04 LTS. Once that happens, Wayland should work without needing any change from GDM. (Just a reboot.). This issue is currently being tracked with LP: #1968929 How this was broken and fixed - I took gdm 42.0-1ubuntu3 and removed the one cherrypicked patch we no longer needed. That required rebasing later patches. I made a mistake when rebasing. To fix this, I returned to the known working 42.0-1ubuntu3, kept the patch but added a new patch at the end to revert the patch we don't need. This is a cleaner fix and will work better when we package the new GDM release where we will probably still need the revert patch. Release Team, see the more minimal debdiff in comment 10. Original Bug Report --- After updating gdm3 from 42.0-1ubuntu2 to 42.0-1ubuntu4 in jammy, it no longer shows any sessions in the bottom-right corner. When I log in, I am dropped into an X11 session, with no way to switch to Wayland. Downgrading the gdm3, gir1.2-gdm-1.0 and libgdm1 packages to 42.0-1ubuntu2 or 42.0-1ubuntu3 restores the option to select sessions and defaults to Wayland again. Looking at the changelog: gdm3 (42.0-1ubuntu4) jammy; urgency=medium * Drop patch disabling Wayland on hybrid laptops using Nvidia's drivers. It's not needed for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (LP: #1968809) -- Jeremy Bicha Thu, 14 Apr 2022 14:29:35 -0400 However, all my machines are i915-only. Tim, please update to gdm3 42.0-1ubuntu6 when it's available in a few hours. After it's installed, restart your computer and see if you still experience this issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969151] Re: Files does not open DEB packages installer
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. 'seahorse' is not the Files application so I'm changing the package to nautilus. Choosing that option prompts me to use 'Software Install' or search for further relevant applications. Do you not see these options? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969311] [NEW] Wayland disabled unconditionally on 22.04 (except for Nvidia)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1969243 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969243 Public bug reported: Since the following commit, Wayland is not available (the gears button on the login screen does not show at all): https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/commit/data/61-gdm.rules.in?h=applied/ubuntu/jammy&id=54712c1fdc52345749802a0c1d3647458b9c9bef Commenting out the lines in /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules that are added by this commit resolves the problem. The commit introduces a check for presence of some Nvidia utilities that are required for suspend/resume under Wayland. However my machine does not have an Nvidia GPU, so it is obviously missing those utilities, and Wayland is disabled erroneously. Upstream has an additional guard to skip these checks (and as such keeping Wayland enabled) on non-Nvidia hardware, see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/blob/main/data/61-gdm.rules.in#L50 It seems like these guards were accidentally omitted in the Ubuntu cherry-pick. To make matters worse, this missing guard causes "/usr/libexec/gdm- runtime-config set daemon WaylandEnable false" to be executed on EVERY udev event. Probably related to bug 1968809 and bug 1968929. The issue is that it basically zooms both the displays, i can explain best by attaching the printscreens and a picture with my phone on the same thing. You will see in the photo taken with the phone how it actually scales now and how the screenshots are taken... Let me know what logs/commands etc is needed to pinpoint this which i think is a regression. The monitor on which i want to scale is 4k and is connecting through DELL DA300 adapter through USB-C/Thunderbolt ( i have also tried using Dell Dock WD19 but same issue). --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu15 Architecture: amd64 DisplayManager: gdm3 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.mutter' b'experimental-features' b"['scale-monitor-framebuffer']" InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-12-18 (18 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Alpha amd64 (20191127) Package: gnome-shell 3.34.1+git20191024-1ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-24.26-generic 5.3.10 RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.34.2-2ubuntu1 Tags: focal Uname: Linux 5.3.0-24-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: _MarkForUpload: True To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mutter/+bug/1857383/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969256] Re: Dual Monitors on Xorg with Scaling is Broken
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1857383 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1857383 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 1857383, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find. ** Tags added: multimonitor xrandr-scaling ** Package changed: gdm3 (Ubuntu) => mutter (Ubuntu) ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1857383 Fractional scaling applies to both monitors when you only want it on one -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969256 Title: Dual Monitors on Xorg with Scaling is Broken Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Firstly I want to note that this is not a Jammy specific bug. I have used ubuntu focal, and impish and note it there as well (it may exist on older releases, I have not tested). When using multiple monitors with the Xorg backend, scaling does not work properly. I have a 4K 27in monitor (on the right) and a 1080p 21.5in monitor (on the left). I would like to scale my 4K monitor to 150% and leave the 1080p monitor at 100%. Doing this works correctly in wayland. However, doing this is gnome (through the gnome settings display dialog) produces the wrong outcome. Setting the 4K monitor to 150% scales BOTH the 4K display (right) and the other 1080p display (left). the 1080p display scaling should not change as per the gui but it does and cuts of the viewable area. I have attached before scaling and after scaling images to this to help show what is happening. I realize this may not be a gdm3 bug, please assist in moving this bug to the correct location as necessary. xrandr output for before scaling is as follows: ``` Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 5760 x 2160, maximum 16384 x 16384 DisplayPort-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DisplayPort-3 connected primary 3840x2160+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm x 340mm 3840x2160 60.00*+ 30.00 2560x1440 59.95 1920x1200 60.00 1920x1080 60.0059.94 1600x1200 60.00 1680x1050 60.00 1600x900 60.00 1280x1024 60.02 1440x900 60.00 1280x800 59.81 1152x864 59.97 1280x720 60.0059.94 1024x768 60.00 800x600 60.32 720x480 60.0059.94 640x480 60.0059.94 DisplayPort-4 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-A-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-D-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-2 connected 1920x1080+0+1080 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 268mm 1920x1080 60.00*+ 1280x1024 75.0260.02 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.0360.00 800x600 75.0060.32 640x480 75.0059.94 720x400 70.08 DP-1-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1920x1080 (0x5e) 148.500MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 1920 start 2008 end 2052 total 2200 skew0 clock 67.50KHz v: height 1080 start 1084 end 1089 total 1125 clock 60.00Hz 1280x1024 (0x63) 108.000MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 1280 start 1328 end 1440 total 1688 skew0 clock 63.98KHz v: height 1024 start 1025 end 1028 total 1066 clock 60.02Hz 1024x768 (0x69) 65.000MHz -HSync -VSync h: width 1024 start 1048 end 1184 total 1344 skew0 clock 48.36KHz v: height 768 start 771 end 777 total 806 clock 60.00Hz 800x600 (0x6a) 40.000MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 800 start 840 end 968 total 1056 skew0 clock 37.88KHz v: height 600 start 601 end 605 total 628 clock 60.32Hz 640x480 (0x6e) 25.175MHz -HSync -VSync h: width 640 start 656 end 752 total 800 skew0 clock 31.47KHz v: height 480 start 490 end 492 total 525 clock 59.94Hz ``` xrandr output for when scaling is applied is as follows: ``` Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 8960 x 2880, maximum 16384 x 16384 DisplayPort-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DisplayPort-3 connected primary 5120x2880+3840+0
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969121] Re: System fallback to gdm login screen when hot-plugging a external monitor in 1st time
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Changed in: oem-priority Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969121 Title: System fallback to gdm login screen when hot-plugging a external monitor in 1st time Status in OEM Priority Project: Incomplete Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: [Steps to reproduce] 1.
