system will not boot using kernel version 5.15.0-53-generic

Status in evince package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When updating packages using apt-get dist-upgrade I receive this
  message:

  ###
  New kernel available

The currently running kernel version is 5.15.0-52-generic which is not
  the expected kernel version 5.15.0-53-generic.

Restarting the system to load the new kernel will not be handled
automatically, so you should consider rebooting.

Chromium's built-in PDF renderer crashes when rendering some files,
  takes unity down

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Chromium reliably crashes when opening some PDF files (not all of them). When
it does, unity (compiz) is taken down with it and I'm taken back to the login
screen. At that point logging in results in compiz seemingly crashing again,
and a reboot is needed to allow logging in again.
I'm attaching a PDF file that reliably triggers the crash. Note that the file
renders fine in e.g. evince.

Title:
  [BPO] libreoffice 7.3.7 for focal

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.3.7 is in its seventh bugfix release of the 7.3 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.3#7.3.7_release

   * This source packages matches the proposed SRU for jammy handled at
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1995054
and its backport is currently provided by the LibreOffice Still PPA at

https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-still/+packages

   * Previous backport of 7.3.6 handled at
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1989418

   * LibreOffice 6.4.7 (EOL since November 30, 2020) is currently released in
focal.
   * LibreOffice 7.3.6 is currently released in focal-backports.

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU
a minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

  [Scope]

   * Backport of
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:7.3.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.1

   * Backport target is Focal/20.04 LTS only to provide an official
build of a more recent upstream version of LibreOffice

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
  https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_73/2020/

    * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
  * Automated tests

  * Automated UI tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
  * Regression tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
  * Feature tests
    https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

   * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
  * [amd64]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/focal/amd64/libr/libreoffice/20221109_131732_0f324@/log.gz
  * [arm64]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/focal/arm64/libr/libreoffice/20221109_134252_403d2@/log.gz
  * [armhf]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/focal/armhf/libr/libreoffice/20221109_152925_85c50@/log.gz
  * [ppc64el]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/focal/ppc64el/libr/libreoffice/20221109_134511_07b38@/log.gz
  * [s390x]
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-focal-libreoffice-libreoffice-still/focal/s390x/libr/libreoffice/20221109_125147_0715b@/log.gz

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented
  by: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A minor release with a total of 28 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

   * A minor release with a total of 28 bug fixes always carries the

release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
  features were removed.

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

Totem unable to play video: "The specified movie could not be found"

Status in Totem:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
As part of our ISO testing for the Pi desktop, we attempt to play

https://archive.org/download/BigBuckBunny_124/Content/big_buck_bunny_720p_surround.mp4
with the shipped totem video player. Unfortunately, on the current
Jammy image, totem simply reports "The specified movie could not be
found" when attempting to play the file (the exit code is 0, no other
errors are reported at the command line).

I've attempted to install a few gstreamer codecs, in case that
might've been the issue (this was necessary on some older versions),
but neither gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly, nor gstreamer1.0-libav made any
difference. Just to ensure the video file was intact and playable, I
then installed vlc from the archive, which played the video happily.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1970808] Re: [nvidia] Lock screen is frozen

It seems to occur more frequently when my computer has been suspended

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971712] Re: Add support for Intel DG2

2022-11-19 Thread Sebastian Heiden
The new firmware package works fine with the 6.0 kernel, it loads the GuC and
HuC Firmware, as seen below:
[4.691687] i915 :03:00.0: [drm] Finished loading DMC firmware
i915/dg2_dmc_ver2_06.bin (v2.6)
[4.702309] i915 :03:00.0: [drm] GuC firmware i915/dg2_guc_70.1.2.bin
version 70.

I presume the firmware updates are a preparation for the i915/drm
backports to the 6.0-oem kernel?

Ubuntu 22.04 does not support Intel DG2-based hw which is released
  later this year.

  [Fix]

Mesa: needs a bunch of patches backported to 22.0.x, will be upstream in 22.1
or 22.2
kernel: oem-6.0 plus a bunch of backports from 6.1/drm-tip
firmare: updates to i915 DMC, GuC

  [Test case]

Boot a system with a DG2-based GPU, check that native graphics drivers
  are used.

Test mesa also on gen9-gen12 GPU's to verify that there are no
regressions even though the backports are for DG2.

  [What could go wrong]

The Mesa patches are only for DG2 support, should not affect other
hardware at all. The kernel driver is in a separate package which
isn't installed by default except preinstall machines with this
hardware. So other users are not affected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1989602] Re: Delay in updating charge status in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Delay in updating charge status in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Status in upower package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 370, running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
When plugging in the charger, the current charge status in the top bar and
Settings shows 'Not Charging' for a few minutes and then shows that the system
is charging normally.

When unplugging the charger the same happens; the charge status shows
'Not Charging' for a few minutes, and then shows the correct charge
  status.

Normally, the change in power status should be instantaneous.
In short, there is a delay in the OS in showing the current charge status.

Upon further research, it was found that the 'upower' service is to blame; it
polls every two minutes(i.e., it refreshes the charge status every two
minutes); causing a delay in charge status.
This is further compounded by the fact that restarting upower service, or the
system as a whole makes the system to show the correct charge status.

However, I did not have this problem on another system, a HP Pavilion x360
14m-dw0023dx, running the same OS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
There, the power status behaves normally with no delays whatsoever.

Please look into this issue and fix this bug as soon as possible.
One suggestion would be to increase the polling frequency of upower from 2
mins. to something lesser, so that the charge status shows correctly.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1997147] [NEW] App theme for legacy GTK3 apps inadvertently changes to light mode when Appearance pane in Settings is clicked/made active in Ubuntu 22.10

2022-11-19 Thread John D
Public bug reported:

This bug happens with dark mode enabled, whenever I open Settings with
Appearance pane open, or I enter Appearance pane from other panes in Settings.
Whenever I do so, the app theme for legacy GTK3 applications (those not
supporting the new GTK dark mode API) inadvertently changes to light mode. To
turn back dark mode on for legacy apps,
I have to use the toggle in Quick Settings, or click on any of the theme
circles.

Normally, the dark mode theme for legacy apps should not change whenever
Settings is opened with Appearance pane open, or Appearance pane is selected
from other panes in Settings, just like
GTK3 applications using the new dark mode API, and GTK4+libadwaita apps (which
are not affected by this bug).

A recording of the bug in action is attached along with this report.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971712] Please test proposed package

2022-11-19 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into jammy-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.7 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971712] Re: Add support for Intel DG2

2022-11-19 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into kinetic-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/20220923.gitf09bebf3-0ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
kinetic to verification-done-kinetic. If it does not fix the bug for
you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-kinetic. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Bug description:
I have set gnome to "focus on hover", i.e. focus follows mouse. If I
alt-tab to bring a window to the front but the mouse is over another
window, then the hovered-over window will reclaim focus and the window

In previous gnome versions, if I explicitly focussed a window via
keyboard shortcuts, it remained focussed and I think this is the
