Force update keyboard LEDs after calling EnableDevice to fix its
  hardware state after VT switching

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

   * This change will force update keyboard LED status after calling
EnableDevice, in order to resolve LED status not syncing after
switching VT to a X session.

   * This also fixes the issue with NVIDIA driver and Xorg, that after
resuming from suspend the keyboard LED is always off.

  [ Test Plan ]

  1. Log onto an GNOME Xorg session (KDE Kwin worked this issue around)

  2. Turn on NumLock on the keyboard

  3. Use Ctrl-Alt-F3 to switch to a text console, then Ctrl-Alt-F2 to
  switch back to desktop

NumLock LED should be on after switching back to the desktop

[ Where problems could occur ]

   * The changes are to push status to the device when enabling it
regardless of actual keyboard state change, therefore switching
between VTs and adding/removing keyboard/mouse/xinput devices should
  be affected by this change.

  [ Original Report ]

  Switching virtual terminals [Ctrl-Alt-F1 - F7] to a X session turns
  off keyboard LEDs.

This issue is reproducible on 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.1 (on 22.04)

  To reproduce:
  1. Log on a X session desktop (GNOME Xorg for example)
  2. Turn on NumLock
  3. Use Ctrl-Alt-F3 to switch to a text console, then Ctrl-Alt-F2 to switch
back to desktop

  Expected:
  NumLock LED should be on

  Actual:
NumLock LED is off, but functions like NumLock is on. If NumLock is pressed
the LED turns off as well as the function. If CapsLock is pressed the LED
states sync back (LED turns back on).

Title:
Snap doesn't refresh automatically immediately after snap is quit when
  update is pending

Status in snapd:
  Fix Committed
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Impact / What Currently Happens
  --
Many people open their chosen web browser (Firefox or Chromium) immediately
after logging in and keep the app running continuously.

Eventually, there will be a snap update available. The system notifies
that there is a pending update and to "Close the app to avoid
  notifications."

Most people will eventually close the app, but the pending update is
not applied until the next snap refresh is attempted which could be
  hours away.

This is a frustrating experience because it feels like the
  notification is not helpful.

I think many users would prefer the snap to just update silently in
the background with little or no notification.

  Test Case
  -
From Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with the Firefox snap installed by default
  Keep Firefox running
Wait for a new Firefox release (happens at least monthly)
Receive a notification about a pending update for Firefox
  Close Firefox
  Wait a few minutes
  Open Firefox

  Workaround
  --
Close the app that needs to be updated
Open a terminal and run this command:
  snap refresh

  Other Info
  --
This issue was mentioned in the original post and in the first comment at
  https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/refresh-app-awareness-call-for-testing/29123

  Suggested Mitigation

Would it help to run a `snap refresh` immediately after Ubuntu is booted?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009285] Re: Chromium does not start in other user account

2023-03-06 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Thanks for the detailed report, Franziska. I tried to reproduce it but
Chromium worked alright.

In your test, did you try to open the instances of Chromium to launch at
the same time or at different times?

The most conspicuous error there is

--->
[33865:33865:0305/102017.483089:VERBOSE1:va_stubs.cc(734)]
dlopen(libva-x11.so.2) failed.
[33865:33865:0305/102017.483466:VERBOSE1:va_stubs.cc(736)] dlerror() says:
libva-x11.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
<---

Does the error persist with --disable-gpu?

Title:
Chromium does not start in other user account

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Chromium does not start for other users. I have two admin user
accounts on my Ubuntu. Chromium works as expected for the "first"
user, but does not start in the second user account.

  [Expected behavior]
Chromium to start/work for all users.

  [What is happening]
Chromium does not start for "second" user.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  * Start condition: Only one user account present on the system.
  * Create a second admin user account
  * Login as second user.
  * Start Chromium (doesn't matter whether from dock or terminal)
  * It does not start.

For testing purpose I created a third user account -> same behavior.

  * syslog
  * snap info chromium
  * log from: chromium --enable-logging=stderr --v=1

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

   * The 515 series introduced open kernel modules for the NVIDIA driver. They
come with an open source licence, and should be provided as an option for
datacenter GPUs:

https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/nvidia-releases-open-source-gpu-kernel-modules/

Currently, this is only production-ready (and enabled) on
  datacenter GPUs.

   * We should enable signed modules for the 515-open drivers, giving
users the option to try the drivers.

   * The ubuntu-drivers tool should set a lower priority for the -open
flavour, so that we do not end up recommending it over the plain 515
  flavour.

  [ Test Plan ]

   * [ubuntu-drivers-common]:
"sudo ubuntu-drivers install (to make sure the driver is not installed by
default)"

   * [nvidia driver]

"sudo ubuntu-drivers install nvidia:515-open" to make sure that the
  driver can be installed manually.

Please make sure that this installs the correct linux-restricted-
  modules.

Note: support for GeForce and Workstation GPUs is alpha-quality,
and is disabled by default. This means that desktop testing is not
  needed at the moment.

[ Where problems could occur ]

   * This adds a new driver combination, which is not meant to be default, and
is only enabled for a limited amount of devices (datacenter GPUs).
   * We need to be sure that the driver is not recommended over the other
drivers.

When installing a package that has the virtual-package www-browser as

This leads to wslu being installed on Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop (notably

  desktop behaviour:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009285] Re: Chromium does not start in other user account

2023-03-06 Thread Franziska Naepelt
I did not try to open them at the same time. The first user was not logged in
when I tried to open chromium in the second users account.
I tried with --disable-gpu already yesterday and I experienced the same issue.

---

I just tried to login as second user (when Chromium was running for the
first user) and started Chromium -> worked.

Then I tried several other scenarios with only second user logged in
(same as yestdayer), reboot etc. and it seems to work now. I cannot
reproduce it anymore.

Bug description:
Chromium does not start for other users. I have two admin user
accounts on my Ubuntu. Chromium works as expected for the "first"

  [Expected behavior]
Chromium to start/work for all users.

  [What is happening]
Chromium does not start for "second" user.

  [Steps to reproduce]
  * Start condition: Only one user account present on the system.
  * Create a second admin user account
  * Login as second user.
  * Start Chromium (doesn't matter whether from dock or terminal)
  * It does not start.

For testing purpose I created a third user account -> same behavior.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009285] Re: Chromium does not start in other user account

2023-03-06 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Improbable that it had anything to do with the problem going away, but
Chromium had a minor release today (.100->.177).

At any rate, I then close this bug, please open set it back to "new" if
it happens again.

  Similarly, selecting

Looks like it's timing out and then exiting because the exit status is
0. I don't know if that's the right syntax so suggest you open an issue
with the Nautilus developers:

  Hi…

Don't know if it's related to nautilus or dock.

Bookmarks - default ones like documents, videos, pictures… or manually
added ones through ctrl+d - are not displayed on right click on
  nautilus icon.

Only [ new window | remove from favorites | details ] appear.

( I'm a little dubious about the details usefulness here, too )

I expected all the bookmarks to be displayed on right click, like in
  Unity.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1983794] Re: Evolution not deleting autosave files

2023-03-06 Thread miguelquiros
I have not experienced the bug since I updated libcanberra from proposed repo.
So, as far as I am concerned, the bug seems to be solved.
Thanks a lot.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

Autosave files are not removed from evolution local state directories
  (and windows leaked)

  [ Test case ]

  1. Open evolution, and start to compose a new email
  2. Write enough text and wait few minutes so that this command returns a file
 ls -l ~/.local/share/evolution/.evolution-composer.autosave-*
  3. Close the email composer window, hitting "Do not save"
  4. ls -l ~/.local/share/evolution/.evolution-composer.autosave-* should list
no files
  5. Opening and closing again evolution should not ask to restore the previous
email

  [ Regression potential ]

No sounds could be performed during some UI actions

  ---

Running Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS. Evolution v3.44.1-0ubuntu1
was installed with the distribution on a new system and received
settings imported from an earlier version on another computer.

When composing an email, if the process takes long enough an autosave
  file is created as ~/.local/share/evolution/.evolution-
composer.autosave-xx ("xx" is a random 6 character string).
When the email is successfully sent, the autosave file SHOULD be
deleted. It's not. When evolution is shut down and restarted I'm asked
if I want to recover an unfinished email. Answering No to this will
delete the autosave file, but otherwise it persists and the recovery
query recurs the next time I open evolution.

Other people are having the same issue, see
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/1972. The Gnome
people aren't dealing with it, perhaps considering it a distro-
  specific bug.

On a system used by many people this is a potential security issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009293] Re: Amd Radeon

2023-03-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. The attached files show the 'oibaf' PPA is in
use (has replaced Ubuntu's official graphics packages) which is not
supported by Ubuntu and is known to cause bugs.

Please remove the 'oibaf' PPA from the machine and if that does not fix
the issue then open a new bug showing the problem in Davinci Resolve.
