Bug description:
I set the dark theme on the Settings, but just the Shell and GTK3 apps

Text Editor keep using the light theme.

I deleted my ~/.config/dconf directory, and after that everything
became white (understandable, since that's the default theme), but I
couldn't change. I think it's something related to GTK4 apps.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034579] Re: [FFe] Use tecla to display keyboard layouts

2023-09-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
It's a low risk change since the component is only handling the display
of the keyboard layout in a gtk dialog which is a pretty isolated
feature and non essential to the use of the system

** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

Title:
[FFe] Use tecla to display keyboard layouts

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Explanation of FeatureFreeze exception
  ===
GNOME 45 includes a new keyboard layout viewer named Tecla to replace
gkbd-keyboard-display (old and written in GTK3). The Main Inclusion Request for
this was approved in LP: #2026774 but I reverted the switch in the
gnome-control-center, gnome-initial-setup, and gnome-shell packaging because
the first release of Tecla crashed with some keyboard layouts. That issue has
been fixed for the gnome-control-center & gnome-initial-setup integration.

  Specific changes

  1. Drop the Tecla patch from gnome-control-center and gnome-initial-setup
  2. Have gnome-control-center and gnome-initial-setup depend on Tecla
  3. Promote Tecla to main. The approved MIR is
https://launchpad.net/bugs/2026774

(Both 1 and 2 have been done in Debian Unstable now.)

  Later changes
  =
In my testing with GNOME Shell 45 Beta, there are still some issues with the
Tecla integration. I'll file those issues upstream and we'd like to be able to
switch GNOME Shell to use Tecla later this cycle. We would…

  4. Drop the Tecla patch from gnome-shell
  5. Have gnome-shell depend on Tecla
  6. Demote libgnomekbd to Universe

  Testing Done

I successfully completed Test Case 1 and the first 5 steps of Test Case 2 from
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/gjs

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034678] [NEW] Power profile constantly resets to Balanced

2023-09-07 Thread Akira Taguchi
Public bug reported:

Setting power profile from GNOME into power saver automatically sets it to
balanced after a while.
Let battery drain down to critical and have automatic power saver on. Power
saver profile is on for a while.
Expected: Power profile stays on power saver.
Actual: In about 15 minutes the power profile is seemingly set to balanced when
opening the power management window, although there is a text saying that the
power profile is set to saver due to the aforementioned configuration.

No LSB modules are available.

Having the GNOME shell completely crash immediately after touching the

  This was previously reported as

I still do not see any system-config-printer button in g-c-c printers tab.
Is that intended?

Bug description:
Tap the current time = Immediate crash.

Tap the wifi/power combo menu = Immediate crash.

Tap the top bar by itself = Immediate crash.

Tap the activities button = No crash?

Having the GNOME shell completely crash immediately after touching the
top bar is really annoying. Especially since a lot of the
functionality in the top bar is pretty important.

  This was previously reported as
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2018160,
but that got closed because of inactivity.

This is the crash report Ubuntu generated:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1922047]

2023-09-07 Thread Botond-2
I filed bug 1851258 as a follow-up for potentially rolling out this
change to the release channel.

Regressions from this change like bug 1849201 will need to be fixed
before that happens.

Bug description:
This is an issue which has troubled me for a while. Anecdotally,
scrolling feels way too fast in GNOME on Wayland compared to on X11. I
finally tested it semi-scientifically, and it seems like GNOME on
Wayland scrolls almost exactly 1.5x faster than GNOME on X11.

I tested this by testing how many lines are scrolled from a full two-
finger touchpad swipe from the bottom of my touchpad to the top of my
touchpad, and logged a few attempts in both X and Wayland. I kept
track of the results in this spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17EaBM5Pgt7GdnnzcN2Vchk4kfT7IZ6i4qZ0zpVRGLhc/edit?usp=sharing

I scrolled in one of my own GTK applications
(https://github.com/mortie/lograt) because it lets me easily see how
many lines I scrolled. Attach is a video of one full scroll on X11 and
  one full scroll on Wayland.

This testing was performed on a Dell XPS 13 9343, but I've also used
Ubuntu on a Dell XPS 9575 where GNOME Wayland scrolling also feels way
too fast. I don't have other hardware to test on.

This has been an issue on both Ubuntu 20.10 and Ubuntu 21.04.

Status in libreoffice source package in Jammy:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.5.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.5 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.5#7.5.6_release

  [Scope]

   * Backport of
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:7.5.6-0ubuntu0.23.04.1

   * Backport target is Jammy/22.04 LTS releases to provide an official

  [Testing]

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

2023-09-07 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
** Changed in: libreoffice (Ubuntu Lunar)

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * LibreOffice 7.5.6 is in its sixth bugfix release of the 7.5 line:
   https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.5#7.5.6_release

   * Version 7.5.5 is currently released in lunar. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 7.5.5 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of 7.5.6

7.5.6 RC2 is identical to the 7.5.6 release

   * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2033939] Re: RDP remote desktop connection stopped working using mstsc from windows 11. tcpdump on ubuntu shows SYN packet coming and RESET being responded but no connection is

2023-09-07 Thread BuZain
I figured it out. For some reason, gnome-remote-desktop listens on port
3390 instead of 3389. Connecting to port 3390 works after adding
required firewall rule using ufw. Is there a way to revert back to the
original port?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034722] [NEW] High CPU usage causing slowdown

2023-09-07 Thread Umayr Saghir
Public bug reported:

I have been experiencing high CPU usage from gnome-shell since upgrading
to Mantic. htop shows gnome-shell consuming around 120% of the CPU. This
ends up resulting a very sluggish feeling desktop.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034724] [NEW] minimize, maximize, close buttons in title bar become invisible

2023-09-07 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

Recently when I go to minimize, maximize, or close a window (I have the
minimize and maximize buttons enabled in Tweaks) I discover that the
buttons are invisible. I know they're there, just invisible, because I
can click where they should be visible and the expected thing happens.
If I quit and restart the application in question the buttons become
visible again. This only affects some windows (usually just one) at any
given time, not all of my windows. See attached screenshots for an
example of what I'm talking about.

Bug description:

The correct behavior would be to include style info such as font

This bug exists in gnome terminal through version 3.38.1-1ubuntu1, and

  [Scope]

   * Backport of

   * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

    * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:

   * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented
  by: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

  [Regression Potential]

   * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as
described above should provide reasonable confidence that no
  regressions sneaked in.

Gnome Terminal "Copy As HTML" produces deprecated HTML5 font elements

Status in GNOME Terminal:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in gnome-terminal package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
If you highlight text in gnome-terminal and right-click it, you get a
"Copy as HTML" option. The HTML that gnome-terminal generates when
using that feature contains tags. font tags were depreciated in
HTML 4.01, and made obsolete entirely in HTML 5. (See:
  https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/font).

Attached is a sample of the HTML generated by gnome-terminal.

The correct behavior would be to include style info such as font
colors inside the "style" attribute of a tag, rather than using
   tags. That is to say,

  should be replaced by

  ,

  and

  should be replaced by

This bug exists in gnome terminal through version 3.38.1-1ubuntu1, and
it exists in Ubuntu 21.04 as well as in prior versions of Ubuntu.

I've attached both a copy of the output of Copy As HTML, containing
the deprecated tag. Below is a fixed version of this output
that doesn't rely on the tag:

  alecto@styx:~$ ls apps
  Bitwarden-1.27.1-x86_64_a6df18330216c2546e435c5a9c5df432.AppImage

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2033377] Re: New whitespace between digits and colon in time at top of desktop screen

2023-09-07 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Why do they mess with that math symbol in gnome-desktop?

Anyway, the issue surfaced because of the font changes I made.
Previously DejaVu Sans was used to render the Ratio character, and now,
when the fonts-dejavu-core package is not present, DejaVu Sans Mono
seems to be used instead. Hence the extra whitespace.

I uploaded a language-selector change so it uses Noto Sans Math for
rendering Ratio.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034602] Re: libadwaita applications don't respect dark theme

2023-09-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-session - 44.0-4ubuntu1

---
gnome-session (44.0-4ubuntu1) mantic; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian to fix Dark Theme regression (LP: #2034602).
Remaining changes:
- debian/control.in:
  + Recommend session-migration
+ Move xwayland dependency to gnome-session and make gnome-session
Arch: any
+ Split gnome-startup-applications to a separate binary package so
that it can be uninstalled without breaking the system
  + Add unity-session
- debian/rules: Ensure pot file is generated to translate session files
- Split ubuntu-session out of gnome-session.
- debian/data: Add old-style systemd user session used by Unity
- debian/gnome-session-bin.postinst, debian/gnome-session-bin.prerm:
Moved registering gnome-session binary as a session manager to
   gnome-session-bin package
- don't install gnome-mimeapps.list (installed by desktop-file-utils in
  Ubuntu):
  debian/gnome-session-common.dirs, gnome-session-common.install,
  gnome-session-common.maintscript, gnome-session-common.postinst
- debian/patches/ubuntu/support_autostart_delay.patch:
+ Bugzilla patch to support adding a delay to autostart apps, using
a "X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay" key in the desktop file
- debian/patches/ubuntu/ubuntu_sessions.patch:
  + Add ubuntu sessions
- debian/patches/ubuntu/remove_session_saving_from_gui.patch:
+ Add GNOME_SESSION_SAVE environment variable for people wanting to
use the save session still, knowing that it can break your system
if used unwisely
- debian/patches/ubuntu/add_sessionmigration.patch:
+ launch session-migration if present at the start of the session.
This sync tool runns different session migration scripts that can be
provided in various desktop packages.
- debian/patches/ubuntu/dbus_request_shutdown.patch:
+ Add "RequestShutdown" and "RequestReboot" DBus methods to allow
other applications to shutdown or reboot the machine via the session
manager.
- debian/patches/ubuntu/ignore_gsettings_region.patch:
+ Ignore the "region" gsettings value - users' setting of LC_*
variables saved in ~/.pam_environment.
- debian/patches/revert_remove_gnome_session_properties.patch:
  + Don't merge translations into gnome-session-properties.desktop
- debian/ubuntu-settings-migrate-to-defaults.18.10.1.py:
+ Migrate users using old default ubuntu-settings to current ones
- debian/xdg_dirs_desktop_session.sh: Install a new script into
/etc/profile.d to prepend a $DESKTOP_SESSION related directory to
  $XDG_{CONFIG,DATA}_DIRS.

gnome-session (44.0-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Cherry-pick 2 more patches from upstream:
- Also set LC_ADDRESS and LC_TELEPHONE from configured user region
- Make gsm-system's return_false actually return FALSE

gnome-session (44.0-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * d/p/data-Add-gnome-portals.conf.patch:
Add patch proposed upstream to add a gnome-portals.conf for use by
xdg-desktop-portal >= 1.17.1.
This is the replacement for the UseIn field in .portal files, and is

Bug description:
If you highlight text in gnome-terminal and right-click it, you get a
"Copy as HTML" option. The HTML that gnome-terminal generates when
using that feature contains tags. font tags were depreciated in
HTML 4.01, and made obsolete entirely in HTML 5. (See:
  https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/font).

Attached is a sample of the HTML generated by gnome-terminal.

The correct behavior would be to include style info such as font
colors inside the "style" attribute of a tag, rather than using
   tags. That is to say,

  should be replaced by

  ,

  and

  should be replaced by

This bug exists in gnome terminal through version 3.38.1-1ubuntu1, and
it exists in Ubuntu 21.04 as well as in prior versions of Ubuntu.

I've attached both a copy of the output of Copy As HTML, containing
the deprecated tag. Below is a fixed version of this output
that doesn't rely on the tag:

  alecto@styx:~$ ls apps

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2033377] Re: New whitespace between digits and colon in time at top of desktop screen

2023-09-07 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
For the record: The different results depending on locale is a
"translation" matter. While the default time separator is \u2236, it has
been "translated" for e.g. en_GB in Ubuntu into \u003A:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/mantic/+source/gnome-
desktop/+pots/gnome-desktop-3.0/en_GB/24

$ printf '\u2236\n'
∶
$ printf '\u003A\n'
:

So with the en_GB.UTF-8 locale it displays a regular colon character,
which the Ubuntu font can render.

(Daniel: I can't explain how you hid the issue by using en_AU.UTF-8,
though.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034763] [NEW] Flatpak applications ignore appearance settings with glib2.0 2.77.3 and xdg-desktop-portal 1.17.2

2023-09-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I use Plasma desktop in Mantic. With the latest versions of glib2.0 and
xdg-desktop-portal all Flatpak applications ignore host settings like
GTK theme, cursor theme and window controls position. I can get proper
appearance only in the following state:

> sudo apt list --upgradable
Listing... Done
libglib2.0-0/mantic 2.77.3-1 amd64 [upgradable from: 2.77.1-1]
libglib2.0-bin/mantic 2.77.3-1 amd64 [upgradable from: 2.77.1-1]
libglib2.0-data/mantic,mantic 2.77.3-1 all [upgradable from: 2.77.1-1]
xdg-desktop-portal/mantic 1.17.2-1ubuntu1 amd64 [upgradable from:
1.16.0-3ubuntu1]

Upgrading either glib2.0 or xdg-desktop-portal causes the problem, so I
don't know exactly which package causes this incompatibility.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1983778] Re: Major security issue in Ubuntu Desktop default config - Removable Media

2023-09-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gsettings-desktop-schemas -
45~rc-1ubuntu1

---
gsettings-desktop-schemas (45~rc-1ubuntu1) mantic; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Add ubuntu_lock-on-suspend.patch
- Add dark-theme migration script using dh-migrations
  * Drop Breaks: ukwm because ukwm still runs but fails to build from source
for unrelated reasons

gsettings-desktop-schemas (45~rc-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
- media-handling: Don't autostart software by default when media is inserted
  (LP: #1983778, LP: #1617620)
  * Add Breaks against packages that used dropped toggle-shaded
  * Drop obsolete Breaks

gsettings-desktop-schemas (44.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Update standards version to 4.6.2, no changes needed
  * Release to unstable

Bug description:
There is a MAJOR SECURITY VULNERABILITY in Ubuntu Desktop since
  release 18.04 !

Recently I used Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and noticed that the issue still
  exist!

I don’t know the reason for it, but default values for “Removable Media” are
VERY Risky!
It will automatically run the software which is attached to the removable
media.
Why? Why has Ubuntu still didn’t disable that option?

The following is the default configuration (the “bad” configuration):

The following is the configuration which Ubuntu should be having (it is the
fix to the problem):

  Fix Released

Bug description:
Ubuntu 16 is still automatically executing software that resides in an
external resource (removable media), such as USB or CD.

I don't need to tell you how bad this is..

  ---

You can see the default value that allows to autoplay / autorun files
  by doing the following steps:

  1. In Ubuntu 16.04, go to Settings -> Details.
  2. In the left pane choose "Removable Media".
  3. On the right pane you'll see "Software", while the value in the drop-down
menu is "Run Software".

  ---

  A fix suggestion:
Instead of "Run Software", the default value should be "Do nothing".

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2033569] Re: suddenly choked on multiseat config in a way that survives reboots and even purging it

2023-09-07 Thread Christian Pernegger
Found a solution.

There were two separate issues:

FIRST ISSUE

Apparently systemd likes to start up lightdm early, so early that on a
reasonably fast system the GPU driver won't be ready in time ...

(I thought this was what systemd's dependency handling was for, but
never mind.)

This seems to be a long-standing issue; it's neither multiseat- nor GPU-
driver-specific. And considering this is just a budget AMD box, albeit a
new one, it's going to bite more and more people in future.

My hypothesis re. why the first few boots with lightdm worked is that I
was still in the middle of setting up the box, i.e. a lot changed from
one boot to the next. Either one of those changes triggered the timing
issue, or "clean" boots are faster per se.

The workarounds detailed in the Arch Wiki
(https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LightDM#LightDM_does_not_appear_or_monitor_only_displays_TTY_output)
both work, to wit:

1) Add

[LightDM]
logind-check-graphical=true

in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

- OR -

2) Enable early KMS by adding your GPU driver module to /etc/initramfs-
tools/modules and running update-initramfs -k all -u.

SECOND ISSUE:
At some point while trying to fix this I deleted /var/lib/lightdm as well,
which is lightdm's home directory. Since purging lightdm does not remove the
lightdm user, reinstalling it will not (re)create this directory. Unfortunately
the symptoms are the same as above--lightdm goes into a restart loop, then
gives up.

Now, the second issue probably isn't a bug, though the postinst script could at
least print a warning if the home directory isn't present and writeable, but
the first one is, IMHO.

Title:
suddenly choked on multiseat config in a way that survives reboots and
  even purging it

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have a bog-standard loginctl multiseat setup, using lightdm because
of #2033323. Except for the lack of session locking, it worked
beautifully, across multiple reboots. Until it didn't.

Box woke from suspend, and to be fair was acting strangely even then
(Steam suddenly tried to launch using the iGPU), so suspend may well
be broken on this box, but if so, that's a separate issue. Anyway, I
rebooted, no lightdm greeter to be seen, the screen on seat1 was
black. I did not have easy access to seat0 at the time.

  The journal has, looping:
systemd[1]: Failed to start Detect the available GPUs and deal with any
system changes.
systemd[1]: lightdm.service: Start request repeated too quickly.
  token systemd[1]: lightdm.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
token systemd[1]: Failed to start Light Display Manager.

The first line is from gpu-manager.service, whose log contains
  Vendor/Device Id: 1002:164e
  BusID "PCI:110@0:0:0"
  Is boot vga? no
  Error: can't access /sys/bus/pci/devices/:6e:00.0/driver

  x-0 log has
vesa: Ignoring device with a bound kernel driver
vesa: Ignoring device with a bound kernel driver
  (EE)
  Fatal server error:
  (EE) no screens found(EE)

  Scary.

Thing is, both the iGPU and the dGPU are claimed by amdgpu, their
"driver" symlink is accessible just fine. Switch back to gdm via dpkg-
reconfigure, it boots up fine again. It's just lightdm that's hosed.

I tried purging lightdm and lightdm-gtk-greeter, along with and
/var/lib/lightdm, and reinstalling the packages, but no dice. What
does work is starting lightdm.service manually over ssh: It takes
about 1-4 tries for both gpu-manager and lightdm to successfully
launch and bring up both greeters. Reboot, and it fails again.

Some kind of race condition due to too lax timing and/or dependencies
in the lightdm service file? Something unrelated changed the order and
or speed at which systemd executes the service files, i.e. it worked
by accident before and now it doesn't?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1846790] Re: [upstream] Saving files with a '#' in the name silently(!) fails on GVFS smb:// paths (Samba share)

For the record, I can confirm that the version of LO that ships with

Title:
[upstream] Saving files with a '#' in the name silently(!) fails on
  GVFS smb:// paths (Samba share)

Status in LibreOffice:
  Fix Released
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
[Reported via ubuntu-bug, I'm assuming it has gathered all relevant
system info. More, especially on the Samba server, if required, is
  available on request.]

  What I'm trying to do:
Save a file whose name contains a '#' character to a Samba share accessed via
a GVFS smb:// path.
Ex. 1: Open a blank Writer (ODT) document, save that under the name "Test
#1.odt" on a Samba share mounted via Nautilus.
Ex. 2: Open a pre-existing file "Test #2.odt", either via Nautilus or
File-Open, make some changes, save it & quit.

  What I'm expecting to happen:
The file shows up under the assigned name on both the client and the Samba
server (in case of a new file); or the existing file now contains the changes
made (in case of an existing file being modified).
Ex. 1: I'd expect to see "Test #1.odt" in the relevant directory.
Ex. 2: I'd expect "Test #2.odt" to contain my changes.

  What happens instead:
Ex. 1: LibreOffice actually saves the data in a file named "TFNZPF~F" as seen
from the client, "Test " [note the space at the end] on the server.
Ex. 2: The original file remains untouched, but a new file "TFNZPF~F"
(client), or "Test " (server) is created with the saved data.
Effectively, the save operation does not succeed -- without any error message.

  Analysis:
This is based on experiments with more complex filenames. Somehow, when
LibreOffice saves a file in this constellation, the filename gets truncated at
the first '#', inclusive, first, suffix and all. (This in turn leaves a
filename ending in a space, which isn't legal under Windows, so Samba's name
mangling kicks in.)

The problem does not occur with local files or on a sshfs-mount. Gedit has no
problem even on smb://.
It's unclear whether '#' is the only character affected.

Some kind of URL handling/escaping bug in LibreOffice's GIO support?

In any case, this cost me a day of work. (By the time I realised my
changes hadn't actually been lost but landed in a new, cryptically-
named file, I'd already recreated it to meet the deadline.)

 - I've now added SSSD to the bug
 - I had not uploaded the remaining bits yet as I was waiting for SSSD to hit
the queue first
 - GNOME settings daemon is also uploaded now to the queue
 - GDM will be uploaded soon by Jeremy

The bug has now been updated to have a proper SRU template, with all the
tests required to check all the 3 packages.

  pamtester: invoking pam_start(gdm-smartcard, ubuntu, ...)

Alternatively, if no smartcard or hardware is available, this can be tested
and simulated using these scripts (they will reset the system setup at each
run, but it's suggested to run them in a VM, lxd container or in a test

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2034722] Re: High CPU usage causing slowdown

2023-09-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Those KMS messages are due to MUTTER_DEBUG=kms which should not be set
by default. Do you have it in /etc/environment or /etc/environment.d/* ?

There's also a little bit of bug 2034664 in your log.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2033377] Re: New whitespace between digits and colon in time at top of desktop screen

2023-09-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the fix Gunnar.

The reason I didn't raise it with you earlier was because I figured a
better solution would be to:

 1. Patch to revert to a colon in the default US English translation.

 2. Propose to upstream to not use RATIO in future because fonts don't
often implement the Mathematical Operators block.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011281]

2023-09-07 Thread Nathan Teodosio
In bug description:

1> when I went to use my saved passwords in chromium today, I found that
they were absent.

In your last comment:

2> chromium continues to be able to *use* my saved passwords. But I
don't know where they're actually saved

Which one is correct/up to date?

Likewise for

3> I found that there was a
~/snap/chromium/common/chromium/Default/Login Data.old containing all of
my passwords, and a ~/snap/chromium/common/chromium/Default/Login Data
containing a single password entry

and

4> But I don't know where they're actually saved

It looks impossible that Chromium is accessing passwords from 'Login
Data.old'; there is no longer any reference to that, anywhere, so I
think quote 3 might not be up to date.

Depending on the situation you could try --password-store=basic, but
given the already buggy circumstances, better have those configuration
files backed up.

Without a reproducible case and access to those data files, which of
course you must not share as it contains passwords, this is hard to debug.

Title:
chromium snap upgrade "lost" my passwords

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On upgrade to chromium snap revision 2333 (now since upgraded to
2367), I received a window with a notice about password migration:

"Password storage via the Gnome keyring has been fixed, but for it to
work, you have to rename your old
~/snap/chromium/common/chromium/Default/Login Data file so that a new,
  working one can replace it."

I don't remember if I did this or not. However, when I went to use my
saved passwords in chromium today, I found that they were absent.

Tracking down the data in the chromium profile, I found that there was
  a ~/snap/chromium/common/chromium/Default/Login Data.old containing
all of my passwords, and a
  ~/snap/chromium/common/chromium/Default/Login Data containing a single
password entry for a site that I happened to have created a new login
for in the past few days.

That's not a very user-friendly experience on upgrade.
