[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2042796] Re: Ubuntu 20.04: Buttons/icons at the edge of the touchscreen don't respond to taps if they are very small

2023-12-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

- On Dell OptiPlex 7400 AIO, go to gnome-control-center > appearance,
- adjust the dock icon-size to 24. It is hard to launch corner app like
- firefox, or trigger the launcher. The app icon gets focus but not
- clicked.
+ [ Impact ]
+
+ Touchscreen touches at the left or bottom edges (less than 20px) of the
+ screen are not treated as mouse clicks. Icons only get highlighted, not
+ launched.
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ 0. Find a touchscreen.
+ 1. Set Ubuntu Dock in Panel mode (the default mode) if not already.
+ 2. Touch icons as close to the edge of the screen as possible. Aim for the
gap between the icon and the edge of the screen.
+
+ Expect: The app launch animation occurs for each touch. Icons aren't
+ just highlighted.
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ Anywhere in touchscreen gesture tracking or even regular touchscreen
+ usage. As this bug demonstrates, the former is able to interfere with
+ even simple touchscreen actions.
+
+ [ Workaround ]
+
+ Size the Ubuntu Dock adequately large so it is unlikely the user will
+ touch less than 20 pixels from the edge of the screen.

Yes, that's correct.
You may also need "sudo apt update" after adding the repository

2023-12-03 Thread Artur Pak
hi @Loukang,
Thanks to Daniel's help in identifying the patch.
I have built a ppa package to test the fix.

Could you install the gnome-shell from my personal PPA?
 https://launchpad.net/~artur-at-work/+archive/ubuntu/verification

And let us know if problem was resolved.

Thank you.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011806] Re: [lunar] Snaps don't launch due to cgroup issue

2023-12-03 Thread James Henstridge
@Jonas: If KDE is launching apps in the same way gnome-shell was, it is
inherently racy. It needs to make sure the child process is in the new
cgroup before executing the application.

Doing the cgroup move after the app is already running causes problems
if the application itself wants to configure cgroups, and could let
child processes of the app itself escape the cgroup if they are created
before the launcher tries to move the app.

Ubuntu will continue supporting Xorg in 24.04 at least, which will be
supported until 2034(?). For specific Arm boards it might be OK to say
we only support Wayland, but this is the first I've heard of it with
respect to Raspberry Pi. It doesn't sound like a big technical hurdle(?)

Yes that sounds correct other than a typo - it should be
"amdgpu.mcbp=0".

It might be a factor, if you can confirm it..?

Installed a pre-release build of Ubuntu 23.10 to my ThinkPad the other
day, was going through setting up and testing the usual programs.

Installed Steam through apt from the 'mantic' repositories. Installed
Proton 8.0 and Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 (Sniper) alongside two
  compatible titles.

Screen corruption (white and grey streaks) present in-game when GNOME
UI elements appeared on-screen (e.g., volume, brightness, and keyboard
backlight indicators) and omnipresent after closing either game.

Artifacts remain on screen until log-out or reboot. Artifacts were not
  present beforehand.

Artifacts only appeared in Wayland session; not X11/Xorg.

I previously had been running the same games on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
(GNOME, Wayland) and Kubuntu 22.04 LTS (Plasma, X11/Xorg) on this

Title:
Nautilus doesn't load and gives GVFS-WARNING

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After loading a cifs network drive on the command line, nautilus no
  longer loads and shows

  (org.gnome.Nautilus:17319): GVFS-WARNING **: 20:32:43.301: The peer-
to-peer connection failed: Timeout was reached. Falling back to the
session bus. Your application is probably missing --filesystem=xdg-
  run/gvfsd privileges.

when run from the command line. This is not the same as
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1935734 as I'm
not trying to open as root but as a non-privileged user.

This only started happening after upgrading to 21.10 recently. I tried
upgrading gvfs to 1.48.x though a ppa and the update didn't resolve
the issue. It was working in 21.04, so I assume downgrading gvfs

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1972820] Re: LibreOffice crash when entering data in MySQL database

2023-12-03 Thread J-Paul BERARD
LO 7.6.2.1 with Ubuntu 23.10 (not a fresh install).
I rename my LO profile.
And the problem is the same.
So, I will continue to use the JDBC connection which works.
Thanks.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1972820]

2023-12-03 Thread julien2412
Could you try this:
- please uninstall any LO version you got
- upgrade to Ubuntu 23.10 (or 22.04 if you want to stick to LTS)
- install LO version from
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa to have recent LO version
- rename your LO directory profile (see
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/FirstSteps#Corrupted_user_profile)
