  less than 3 letters

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Observed behaviour: Start nautilus (shows my home dir), start typing
e.g. "16", nautilus starts searching, showing some partial search
results, but becomes completely unresponsive for about 15-20 seconds.
After that it shows search results and responds to interaction. When
deleting the search criterion, it freezes again for a similar amount
  of time.

Expected behaviour: Nautilus should respond to commands (e.g. double-
clicking on a shown file, open a new Nautilus window...) while the
search is running. When clearing the search field, it should refresh
  the view nearly instantaneously.

  Reproducibility: every time, countless times

Workaround: wait it out or use at least 3 letters in the search, which
seems not to trigger the above behaviour.

Title:
gvfs-backends should be split in multiple sub-packages

Status in gvfs package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in gvfs package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gvfs

The gvfs-backends should be transformed in a meta-package that only
  recommends other more specific sub-packages.

Currently the gvfs-backends package contains «the afc, archive, burn,
cdda, dav, dnssd, ftp, gphoto2, http, network, obexftp, sftp,
smb and smb-browse backends» and depends on 22 different libraries.

While all these backends may come handy at times, low-resource
computer would benefit if some of these where not installed.

For example cd-less computers (not only netbooks) do not need the
"burn" or "cdda" backends. These two backends install and run a demon
that requires memory and installs unneeded libraries.

A similar argument applies to the AFS backend (not that much useful
these days to a wide audience, runs a daemon), gphoto2 (office
workstation and thin clients do not need it, runs a daemon), obexftp
(makes any Gnome installation dependent on Bluetooth libraries) and
  any other protocol.

While installing all these backends by default is certainly a good
thing, not having a way to remove them when not needed is a problem.
Making gvfs-backends a meta-package and splitting its current content
in multiple packages (gvfs-backends-afs, gvfs-backends-sftp, gvfs-
backends-smb) would retain the good behaviour while still allowing
users with little resources (RAM, disk, CPU) to remove the unneeded
  components.

In 22.04's default theme, it's almost impossible for me to make out
which app or window is the currently selected one in the window
switcher (alt-tab) or the application switcher (super-tab). The
"highlighted" item is just a slightly different shade of grey. I mean,
I can make it out if I squint at it, but ... that just isn't a
*highlight*. This is a use where Ubuntu Orange shines, too. :-(

"Ok, boomer, you're blind. I can see that just fine". Fair enough. Are
you under thirty and (thus still) have 20:20 vision, by any chance?
The point is, it isn't good UI design either way. What's worse, the
high contrast accessibility setting doesn't touch any of it, and that
  is definitely a bug.

  ==

EDIT: Rearranged the submission so that the bit this bug is meant to
be primarily about is on top. The below bits are preserved so that the
  discussion still makes sense.

Similarly, the active workspace in the workspace overview (?) does get
an orange frame, but it's very thin, much too thin to see unless you
look closely. Again, that's not a highlight. A highlight is supposed
  to pop out.

In comparison, the highlighting for the current tab in Terminal is ok-
ish. I'd *prefer* for the entire tab to become orange, or to become a
lighter colour in addition to the orange bar, but it's usable.

(I could go on. For example, windows' title bars are now white vs the iconic
Ubuntu Brown, which makes it hard to tell where the title bar is vs the window
contents. Many applications also have buttons in the title bar now. It's no
longer possible to just grab a window and move it on auto-pilot ... If the
title bar can't be a different colour any more, at least separate it with a
thick line or something.
In any case, 22.04 is a massive regression in terms of visual UI design vs
18.04. Form should follow function, not the other way around.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2043215] Re: Since upgrading to Ubuntu 23.10, the stylus (pen) does not work in Xorg.

2023-12-15 Thread Rob Frohne
I got a note from the original bug report I found here:
https://github.com/xournalpp/xournalpp/issues/5303 The word there was
that the recent update to libmutter fixed this, however, for me it only
fixes it for about 30 seconds after I switch to a program like xournalpp
and use the stylus. Then it stops working.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046360] Re: Heavy stuttering in Firefox with mutter 45.1/45.2

2023-12-15 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I see this was filed on the 13th. Had this been mentioned in the 45.2
mantic SRU bug[1], I wouldn't have released the package to updates on
the 14th :/

Title:
Heavy stuttering in Firefox with mutter 45.1/45.2

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
There is heavy stuttering visible in Firefox with mutter 45.1/45.2.
This is a regression introduced upstream in mutter 45.1 (8f27ebf8),
although it only hurts the triple buffering patch so that's where it's
  fixed:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/mutter/-/commit/0b896518b2028d9c4d6ea44806d093fd33793689

https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/mutter/-/commits/triple-buffering-v4-45

  [ Workaround ]

  In /etc/environment:

    MUTTER_DEBUG_TRIPLE_BUFFERING=always

or "never" also works. Just not "auto".

Status in LibreOffice:

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Can't jump between LibreOffice Calc cells by arrow keys when non-

  scrolling and jumping on cells.
