[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-16 Thread John Johansen
supercollider will work on current noble. Since it is using QTWebEngine
it has a graceful fallback when capabilities within the user namespace
are denied.

supercollider will have a profile and be fixed in Beta3, so it doesn't
even have to do the fallback.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971434] Re: Display powersave only blanks, but does not turn off

2024-03-16 Thread Tim Richardson
I use the wayland session. I sort of have this bug. The screens do power
off, but then the backlights resume. It is still a blank screen

Bug description:
Recently upgraded to Ubuntu 22.04, and it seems like the power-saving
feature in Gnome 42 does not actually turn off the screen(s) after X
minutes, but just blanks them. When I manually run `xset dpms force
off`, they do properly turn off and go to powersave mode.

  1) Description: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
 Release: 22.04

  2) gnome-settings-daemon:
Installed: 42.1-1ubuntu2
Candidate: 42.1-1ubuntu2

  3) In Settings -> Power -> Screen Blank, set the inactivity period to
5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the screens should turn off.

  4) Screens go black, but remain active and consume (too much) power.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-16 Thread Xavier Guillot
Hi, for Gnome-packagekit it's related to this behavior :

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-packagekit/+bug/2046843

I run Ubuntu development branch 24.04 and I have a problem with Gnome
PackageKit 43.0-2 : application launches well, but if I write a program
/ package name in the search field and click on"Enter", it crashes and
closes :

$ gpk-application

(gpk-application:6130): PackageKit-CRITICAL **: 10:51:02.410:
pk_client_generic_finish: assertion 'G_IS_TASK (res)' failed
Erreur de segmentation (core dumped)

It stills occurs on my computer…

After upgrading to Ubuntu 19.10, when I tried to open a file into a
sshfs-mounted folder inside my home folder, it says permission denied.

  1. Use sshfs to mount a sftp folder on an empty folder inside my home drive
(e.g. ~/.server)
  2. Create a soft link in the home folder to a folder inside the mounted sftp
file system (e.g. ~/server > .server/home/michael )

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058102] [NEW] Live caption of videos doesnt work in chromium, but in chrome works

2024-03-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

For example:
https://learn.deeplearning.ai/courses/prompt-engineering-with-llama-2/lesson/3/getting-started-with-llama-2

you get enabled live caption and it does nothing. The same page with
chrome, works the live caption of the video ok.

Ubuntu 22.04
Latest updates
Description:Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
Release:22.04

chromium-browser:
  Instalados: 1:85.0.4183.83-0ubuntu2.22.04.1

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:85.0.4183.83-0ubuntu2 500

Expected that when playing the video, it would begin the live caption and
generate subtitles...at least in english, would be also nice to enable
subtitles translation to spanish.

The video plays "as usual, normally" without live captions in any
langauage.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051895] Autopkgtest regression report (pulseaudio/1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.2)

2024-03-16 Thread Ubuntu SRU Bot
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted pulseaudio (1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.2)
for jammy have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

libsdl2/2.0.20+dfsg-2ubuntu1.22.04.1 (i386)
pipewire/0.3.48-1ubuntu3 (i386)

Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures,
proceeding afterwards as per the StableReleaseUpdates policy regarding
autopkgtest regressions [1].

migration/jammy/update_excuses.html#pulseaudio

Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile

Bug description:
  [Summary]
When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test
com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record
the sound and playback.
It seems this device cannot switch to Hand free mode in this platform.

  [Steps to reproduce]
Connect the ThinkPluse xt99, use the Handfree mode, then try to record some
voice.

  [Expected result]
The bluetooth headset ThinkPluse xt99 can use as a MIC to input sound.

  [Actual result]
The bluetooth headset xt99 cannot work in the Handfree mode.

  [Failure rate]
  100%

  [Impact]
With the current Ubuntu 22.04 oem image, we try to connect the LENOVO
XT99 bt headset and let it work in HFP mode, we select HFP profile
from gnome sound-setting, but the microphone will not auto change to
bt microphone and the bt output could not work too. So this BT headset
could only work in A2DP mode with the current 22.04 OEM image.

And we tried ubuntu 22.04 generic image, mantic image and noble image,
none of them could make the headset work in HFP mode.

  [Fix]
Cherry-pick a pulseaudio commit from upstream.

  [Test]
I installed ubuntu 22.04 and 23.10 on 2 different Thinkpad laptops, then
upgraded the pulseaudio from my ppa (ppa:hui.wang/pa-testing), in theory my
change only affects bluetooth audio devices, it will not bring any impact to
non-audio bluetooth devices, here I did the test with 7 bluetooth audio devices
and 2 non-audio devices:

BT audio devices (pairing, connection, re-connection, playback and capture
all worked well):
  PLT_BBTGO2 (headset)
  Xiaomi Air3 SE (headset)
  Crusher Wireless (headset)
  SOAIY S18 (sound box)
  HK Soho Wireless (headset)
  Thinkplus XT99 (headset)
  Wl-1000X (headset)

BT non-audio devices (pairing, connection, re-connection, key input all
worked well):
  BT3.0 Keyboard
  The Pinao 2 keyboard

  [Where problems could occur]
This change will impact bt headset negotiation process in the pulseaudio,
so the possiblity of regression is limited to bt headset, it could make
the bt headset fail to connect, but this possibility is very low, we tested
the patch with different bt headset and bt speaker, all worked well.

The following command says that "chromium is already installed

I'm not sure what is going on but disabling hardware acceleration seems
to be a good workaround for now.

I am starting to wonder if it is a bug not present in Chromium but in
snap itself. I decided to try Firefox and the issue is present there
too. And also disabling hardware acceleration on Firefox fixes the issue
as a work around just like in Chromium.

2024-03-16 Thread Michel-Ekimia

after installing Gimp ...

Title:
wslu prevents from opening files and folders on some situations

Status in wslu package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
With wslu installed, files and locations can't be opened from Gnome
Activities View neither on Wayland session nor on Xorg one. The same happens
when I try to go to a location from Places Status Indicator extension. In fact,
I filed a bug some time ago against this extension, but that bug was expired.
Now I found the reason for that bug so I create a bug report against the proper
package.
The bug report against Places Status Indicator is this one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extensions/+bug/1970181
I realized the cause of the bug in Places Status Indicator when I saw this
thread: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/701579
Once I removed wslu from my system (on two different pc's) the problem with
the extension has gone and I can open files and folders from Activities view.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058118] [NEW] CPU usage too high. System either stops for a minute or greatly lags

2024-03-16 Thread Ken Wagner
Public bug reported:

CPU usage for gnome-shell skyrockets 25% to over 125%. System stops for
a minute or longer. Other times everything lags and stutters.

1. Does not matter if I use X.org or Nvidia (470 tested release for my GT720
card with two monitors).
2. Turning Gnome Extensions on and off doesn't help.
3. Using Ubuntu 23.10.Updated regularly.
4. This issue started about 7 months ago.

I expect the halts and stutters to go away. Nothing has helped so far.
I mostly use Firefox 123.0.1, logseq 0.10.7, US Gov weather, Nautilus,
LibreOffice Writer, Thunderbird Email, gedit and text editor (gnome) and VS
Code + Rust 1.76. Doesn't matter on using or not using any of these apps. I
usually have 4-5 workspaces over my two monitors.

Kindly advise. Glad to help if I can. What else would you like to know?

Thanks,

Ken Wagner

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2029480] Re: SyntaxWarnings with Python3.12

2024-03-16 Thread Till Kamppeter
This is the patch adapted to the actual Ubuntu/Debian package of HPLIP,
as used in the hplip 3.23.12+dfsg0-0ubuntu2 release for Noble.

The adaptations were most probably needed because, before applying this
patch ~80 other patches got applied to the original source code of
HPLIP.

Especially the transition from "is not" to "!=" seems already done.

** Patch added: "0086-hplip-use-raw-strings.patch"

  SyntaxWarnings with Python3.12

Status in HPLIP:
  Confirmed
Status in hplip package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
Fedora 39 uses Python 3.12 by default, which generates many
  SyntaxWarnings when running hplip scripts.

Most warnings are due regular expressions in strings, so making them
  raw fixes the issue.

  The patch is attached.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1905422] Re: CoinMP Solver not Available, option requires coinmp to be promoted

2024-03-16 Thread Rafael Lima
So I've been using LO from the fresh PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa) and it does not
come with CoinMP enabled.

Is there any particular package that I need to install to make CoinMP
work with LibreOffice on Ubuntu?

Or is this a bug and we should reopen the ticket?

CoinMP Solver not Available, option requires coinmp to be promoted

Status in coinmp package in Ubuntu:

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Hi! LibreOffice Calc supports the CoinMP Linear Solver, which is an
excellent solver to be used in spreadsheets and makes LO Calc superior
to other office suites in that regard.

However, the build provided by this PPA does not come with CoinMP
Solver enabled (see Tools > Solver > Options). I posted a question at
Ask LibreOffice and I was informed that CoinMP is enabled by default
during build and maybe the PPA maintainers chose to disable it.

  https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/240836/coinmp-solver-on-
  libreoffice-calc/

In fact, I built LibreOffice from source and CoinMP was there.
However, building from source is not convenient and I'd like to use
  the PPA.

Is it possible that CoinMP Solver be included in future builds of
  LibreOffice provided by this PPA?

I am currently using LibreOffice 7.0.3.1 on Ubuntu 20.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-16 Thread John Johansen
hi @vvaleryan-24,

I have been able to replicate the crash you are seeing but it is not do
to the user namespace restriction. The restrictions logging does not
happen, and I can put it in an unconfined profile and it still doesn't
help. From dmesg I find the following segfault

[79854.520976] gpk-application[19250]: segfault at 8 ip 5930eec2dba8 sp

my recommendation is we move debugging over of this to the other bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-16 Thread John Johansen
@kc2bez: I have been able to verify that privacybrowser is not working.
However it is not due to the apparmor user namespace restrictions.

I get the following segfault out of dmesg
[ 1591.466016] privacybrowser[7743]: segfault at 8 ip 70bb4dd11ccc sp
7ffd5c6587e0 error 4 in libQt5Core.so.5.15.12[70bb4da8e000+335000] likely
on CPU 0 (core 0, socket 0)
[ 1591.466026] Code: ff ff ff 66 2e 0f 1f 84 00 00 00 00 00 90 f3 0f 1e fa 55

08 89 b5 7c ff ff ff 64 48 8b 04 25 28 00 00 00 48 89 45

I recommend opining a separate bug to track the issue.
