Thanks for the bug report.

Please:

1. Delete any local extensions:

   cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
   rm -rf extensions

2. Log out and in again.

3. When the problem starts happening run:

   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
CPU usage for gnome-shell skyrockets 25% to over 125%. System stops
for a minute or longer. Other times everything lags and stutters.

  1. Does not matter if I use X.org or Nvidia (470 tested release for my GT720
card with two monitors).
  2. Turning Gnome Extensions on and off doesn't help.
  3. Using Ubuntu 23.10.Updated regularly.
  4. This issue started about 7 months ago.

I expect the halts and stutters to go away. Nothing has helped so far.
I mostly use Firefox 123.0.1, logseq 0.10.7, US Gov weather, Nautilus,
LibreOffice Writer, Thunderbird Email, gedit and text editor (gnome) and VS
Code + Rust 1.76. Doesn't matter on using or not using any of these apps. I
usually have 4-5 workspaces over my two monitors.

Kindly advise. Glad to help if I can. What else would you like to
  know?

  Thanks,

  Ken Wagner

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2057964] Re: xserver for NVDIA GeForce GT710 not showing widgets but windows

2024-03-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. You reported the original bug from a Wayland session. Please try
logging out and then selecting the Xorg session on the login screen.
Does the bug still occur?

I suspect that's the main issue here. Not the presence of nvdia-
driver-470 directly, but it will change what default session type you
get. nvdia-driver-470 will force a Xorg session by default which allows
apps to place windows/widgets themselves. Not having an Nvidia driver
installed, you will get a Wayland session and apps are not allowed to
position themselves (although I thought gnome-shell had a workaround for
that for compatibility with Xwayland).

Please:

1. Uninstall nvdia-driver-470

2. Reboot

3. On the login screen select 'Ubuntu on Xorg' instead of the default
'Ubuntu' option.

** Summary changed:

- xserver for NVDIA GeForce GT710 not showing widgets but windows
+ Weather widgets appear in the wrong position in a Wayland session

** Package changed: gnome-shell-extension-appindicator (Ubuntu) =>
mutter (Ubuntu)

Title:
Weather widgets appear in the wrong position in a Wayland session

Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
On my Ububtu 22.04.4 system, NVDIA GeForce GT710, my-weather-indicator does
not show widget as they should be (move them across desktop, positioning,
showing on all desktop, etc.), but are shown as windows, impossible to move
from the position they have when shown.
If I switch my drivers to nvdia-driver-470, surprise!: everything works as
expected, widgets are really widgets and I can see weather information on every
desktop, in the position I placed them.
The problem is that I can't use nvdia-driver-470 because they let crash my
digital signature application, which is more important to me than weather info,
so I have to use xorg-server, but I would like it to work correctly with
widgets as well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051895] Re: Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile

2024-03-17 Thread Hui Wang
Analysis of autpkgtest failure for Mantic (about comment #16):

1) For libopenmpt/0.7.2-1 (i386), it is a building erorr which has
nothing to do with pulesaudio:

755s collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

2) For libsdl2/2.28.3+dfsg-2 (i386), it is a buliding error which has
nothing to do with pusleaudio:

440s use-ttf.c:7:11: fatal error: SDL_ttf.h: No such file or directory
440s 7 | # include
440s | ^~~
440s compilation terminated.
440s + rm -rf /tmp/tmp.CcXjR8RPS6
440s autopkgtest [21:27:55]: test deprecated-use: ---]
440s deprecated-use FAIL non-zero exit status 1

3) For pipewire/0.3.79-2 (i386), it is a buliding error which has
nothing to do with pusleaudio:

1333s + i686-linux-gnu-gcc -otrivial trivial.c -lm
1333s trivial.c:1:10: fatal error: pipewire/pipewire.h: No such file or
directory
1333s 1 | #include
1333s | ^
1333s compilation terminated.
1333s autopkgtest [21:42:52]: test libpipewire-0.3-dev: ---]
1333s libpipewire-0.3-dev FAIL non-zero exit status 1

So in my opinion, these 3 failure have nothing to do with pulseaudio, probably
we should hint them in the tests on i386 enviroment.

Bug description:
  [Summary]
When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test
com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record
the sound and playback.
It seems this device cannot switch to Hand free mode in this platform.

  [Steps to reproduce]
Connect the ThinkPluse xt99, use the Handfree mode, then try to record some
voice.

  [Expected result]
The bluetooth headset ThinkPluse xt99 can use as a MIC to input sound.

  [Actual result]
The bluetooth headset xt99 cannot work in the Handfree mode.

  [Failure rate]
  100%

  [Impact]
With the current Ubuntu 22.04 oem image, we try to connect the LENOVO
XT99 bt headset and let it work in HFP mode, we select HFP profile
from gnome sound-setting, but the microphone will not auto change to
bt microphone and the bt output could not work too. So this BT headset
could only work in A2DP mode with the current 22.04 OEM image.

And we tried ubuntu 22.04 generic image, mantic image and noble image,
none of them could make the headset work in HFP mode.

  [Fix]
Cherry-pick a pulseaudio commit from upstream.

  [Test]
I installed ubuntu 22.04 and 23.10 on 2 different Thinkpad laptops, then
upgraded the pulseaudio from my ppa (ppa:hui.wang/pa-testing), in theory my
change only affects bluetooth audio devices, it will not bring any impact to
non-audio bluetooth devices, here I did the test with 7 bluetooth audio devices
and 2 non-audio devices:

BT audio devices (pairing, connection, re-connection, playback and capture
all worked well):
  PLT_BBTGO2 (headset)
  Xiaomi Air3 SE (headset)
  Crusher Wireless (headset)
  SOAIY S18 (sound box)
  HK Soho Wireless (headset

2) For pipewire/0.3.48-1ubuntu3 (i386), it is the gstreamer1.0-pipewire's
issue, it doesn't have the plugin libgstpipewire.so:

1170s autopkgtest [21:40:06]: test gstreamer1.0-pipewire:
[---
1170s + export GST_INSPECT_NO_COLORS=1
1170s + export PAGER=cat
1170s + gst-inspect-1.0 pipewire
1170s No such element or plugin 'pipewire'
1170s autopkgtest [21:40:06]: test gstreamer1.0-pipewire:
---]

So in my opinion, these 2 failure have nothing to do with pulseaudio, probably
we should hint them in the tests on i386 enviroment.

Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile

Bug description:
  [Summary]
When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test
com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record
the sound and playback.

  HK Soho Wireless (headset)
  Thinkplus XT99 (headset)
  Wl-1000X (headset)

BT non-audio devices (pairing, connection, re-connection, key input all
worked well):
  BT3.0 Keyboard
  The Pinao 2 keyboard

  [Where problems could occur]
This change will impact bt headset negotiation process in the pulseaudio,
so the possiblity of regression is limited to bt headset, it could make
the bt headset fail to connect, but this possibility is very low, we tested
the patch with different bt headset and bt speaker, all worked well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1973134] Re: Gnome 42 lock screen issue RX6500XT

2024-03-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Also sorry for the two year delay in this case... It
sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the
cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-17 Thread ajgreeny
I have seen the problem with firefox tabs crashing in the .deb installation
and when running direct from the downloaded .tar.bz from Mozilla.
Firefox opens but tabs show error saying "Tab crashed"
This has forced me to use the snap version which works fine though I prefer not
to use snaps at all as I dislike the lack of control of them and the
restrictions on use that they create

Bug description:
I am requesting a blanket UI Freeze exception for all flavor wallpaper
packages in advance of the upcoming UI Freeze for a period of 5 days
after it starts. The Noble wallpapers for vanilla Ubuntu will be
available on March 18th, which only gives flavors 2 days to create
  their customized wallpapers.

This is a very tight deadline, and we'd like to avoid putting the
burden on flavors to request individual UIFe's or forcing them to rush
update their wallpaper to make the deadline.

I'd appreciate your support on granting this exception.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2058136] [NEW] Sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-03-17 Thread fossfreedom
Public bug reported:

Please sync udisks2 2.10.1-6 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Don't build with -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions. It breaks module loading, as
it confuses GObject's type loading cache: "cannot register existing type
'UDisksDaemon'". (Patch also applied to Debian packaging git, can be
synced next time). (LP: #2040488)
  * Fix an event loop that can occur when ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE is not set for a
device and that device has partitions. (LP: #2037569)
  * Fix an event loop that can occur when ID_PART_TABLE_TYPE is not set for a
device and that device has partitions. (LP: #2037569)

The existing ubuntu noble-proposed FTBFS

The -Wl, -Bsymbolic-functions is part of debian as per the -6 changelog
entry

I did a grab-merge of udisks then built with both the debian
tests-Fix-targetcli_config.json.patch and the ubuntu
lp-2037569-skip-bd_part_get_disk_spec.patch - using sbuild this successfully
builds in noble-proposed.

Can I suggest ubuntu adds the debian delta as well as the ubuntu delta patch
as part of this sync & merge

Changelog entries since current noble version 2.10.1-1ubuntu3:

udisks2 (2.10.1-6) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * Don't build with -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions.
It breaks module loading, as it confuses GObject's type loading cache:
"cannot register existing type 'UDisksDaemon'".
Ubuntu enables this linker flag by default, no-op for Debian.
(LP: #2040488)

  [ Michael Biebl ]
  * Drop python3-distutils Depends from debian/tests/control.
No longer needed since 2.10.0. (Closes: #1065991)
  * Build-depend on pkgconf instead of pkg-config

 -- Michael Biebl Mon, 11 Mar 2024 23:19:45 +0100

udisks2 (2.10.1-5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * tests: Fix targetcli_config.json.
Not all attributes are available anymore in newer kernel versions.

 -- Michael Biebl Wed, 10 Jan 2024 12:28:58 +0100

udisks2 (2.10.1-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Stop moving files from /usr/sbin to /sbin.
With merged-/usr being mandatory, this is no longer necessary.

 -- Michael Biebl Mon, 27 Nov 2023 05:40:54 +0100

udisks2 (2.10.1-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Replace udev Build-Depends with systemd-dev.
The new systemd-dev package ships udev.pc and systemd.pc which provides
the paths for udevdir/systemdsystemunitdir/tmpfilesdir.

 -- Michael Biebl Mon, 20 Nov 2023 23:51:36 +0100

udisks2 (2.10.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Move systemd services files and udev rules to /usr.
Add a corresponding versioned Build-Depends on debhelper (>= 13.11.6) to
ensure we have a recent enough dh_installsystemd.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051895] Autopkgtest regression report (pulseaudio/1:16.1+dfsg1-2ubuntu4.1)

2024-03-17 Thread Ubuntu SRU Bot
All autopkgtests for the newly accepted pulseaudio (1:16.1+dfsg1-2ubuntu4.1)
for mantic have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

libopenmpt/0.7.2-1 (i386)
libsdl2/2.28.3+dfsg-2 (i386)
pipewire/0.3.79-2 (i386)

Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures,
proceeding afterwards as per the StableReleaseUpdates policy regarding
autopkgtest regressions [1].

Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile

Bug description:
  [Summary]
When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test
com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record
the sound and playback.

  HK Soho Wireless (headset)
  Thinkplus XT99 (headset)
  Wl-1000X (headset)

BT non-audio devices (pairing, connection, re-connection, key input all
worked well):
  BT3.0 Keyboard
  The Pinao 2 keyboard

  [Where problems could occur]
This change will impact bt headset negotiation process in the pulseaudio,
so the possiblity of regression is limited to bt headset, it could make
the bt headset fail to connect, but this possibility is very low, we tested
the patch with different bt headset and bt speaker, all worked well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1721763] Re: ubuntu is stuck with black screen and blinking cursos at top left on all shutdown or restart

2024-03-17 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
review all reported bugs in a timely manner.

Ubuntu 17.10 (artful) reached end-of-life on July 19, 2018.

I'm setting the status of this bug to 'Incomplete' as it's not seen any
activity for some time. If this is still an issue when using a currently
maintained release of Ubuntu then please let us know which one(s)
otherwise this bug report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days
time.

Bug description:
I really do not know which package to assign this incident, please
  excuse me.

Any way, the release candidates is near, and this problem continues to
occur since linux kernel was updated from 4.11 to 4.12 ... and now
with version 4.13 the problem continues.

I noticed that this problem does not occur with my other two older
notebooks (one Sony Vaio and the other a generic one integrated by me)
both old notes use NVIDIA video card in versions of more than 5 years
  ago.

My new Dell notebook has a GTX 1050 video card ... but I also do not
know if the cause of this problem may be linked to the video card and
the fact that Nouveau driver and linux Kernel have received recent
implementations for compatibilities with this new NVIDIA technology.

The fact is that Ubuntu 17.10 has potential to be distributed with
this problem and I think this may not be interesting, so I am
  reporting this case.

  Thank you.
