Title:
Super key doesn't work when panel is selected

Status in GNOME Shell:
  New
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Go to desktop.
Press super key, and see that the workspace viewer shows up.
  Go back to desktop.
Press the panel such that a popup appears (time to open
notifications+calendar, system tray, keyboard switcher, accessibility menu).
Press super key, and the workspace viewer does not show up.

I think this is a bug, because the super key should always work to
switch application, as it is a 'rescue' button for users who got lost
and don't know what they are doing.

Same happens for alt-tab and super-tab.

  Ubuntu 23.10
  GNOME version 45.2
  Wayland
  Linux Kernel 6.5.0-26-generic

Unfortunately I can't make an account on askubuntu to report this bug
there, because when I try to make an account, Launchpad asks for which
type of access I would like to give askubuntu, I press the highest
permissions level, then it says "launchpad error try logging in
  again".

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2009825] Re: snap thunderbird cannot sign messages with external gnupg

2024-03-31 Thread Luci Stanescu
If this is of any help, I've documented the issues that preclude this
from working in the snapcraft forum, at
https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/thunderbird-snap-and-external-gnupg-for-
smart-cards/39553. Unfortunately, the enigmail logging is not terribly
useful and nor is the debug log from GPGme.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2044718] Re: mantic on raspberry5: x and/or lightdm problems

2024-03-31 Thread Dave Jones
I'll have a look at this next week; there's a bunch of things I need to
shove in ubuntu-raspi-settings anyway this cycle and something like this
is already present in there but I'll see if it needs enhancing (it won't
be able to rely on raspi-config though, so I'll have to change those
bits out).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1847088] Re: Cups appends extra page with %EndDocument %%EOF to every print

2024-03-31 Thread Fred Richardson
I'm having this same problem with a different distro - it's the
raspberrypi "bookworm" distro. Everything works fine except that I get
these extra pages with "%%EndDocument" carriage return, a bunch of
whitespace and then "%%EOF". I take it this is a cups issue? Or maybe
it is a specific problem with my Xerox Phaser driver?

  smb: \> print test.pdf
  putting file test.pdf as test.pdf (1947.9 kb/s) (average 1947.9 kb/s)

it works without the extra page. I've tried to find the filter that
adds the extra page but can not find it.

interface as it used to do.

In dconf-editor I did not find entries regarding « global » interface
  font.

  Is this intended behavior ?

Ability to change font type and size is also a matter of
  accessibility.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059871] [NEW] F9 still mentionned as a way to hide side pane but no longer works

2024-03-31 Thread Coeur Noir
Public bug reported:

Hi,

ubuntu 24.04 + nautilus 46

in Nautilus « main menu » the keyboard-shortcuts list [ ctrl + ? ] reads
F9 as a way to hide / unhide side panel.

I wish it were true, but it's no longer since 23.04 where F9 was
disabled upstream (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2020009 )

Though there was a button~icon at the bottom of window for hiding /
unhiding side panel.

Now this also seems gone.

So now only way to hide side pane is to adjust width of Nautilus window.

Hiding side pane is very convenient when needing to drag and drop
elements between two ( or more ) open windows of nautilus.

It can ease task for visually impaired people and people with unsure or
slow hand moves.

Could F9 shortcut or dedicated button-icon ( or both ) make a comeback
in Ubuntu ?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059873] [NEW] Thunderbird needs custom css to match Yaru colors

2024-03-31 Thread Coeur Noir
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Thunderbird, because of its blue accentuation color, looks out of place
in most Yaru color themes.

As explained here (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/2038764 ) the
way Thunderbird is themed is not « standard ».

But custom css might achieve … something ?

I've tried but I lack knowledge.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056767] Re: DRAFT [FFe] gnome-software package split

2024-03-31 Thread Jeremy Bícha
** Description changed:

As requested by the Ubuntu Release Team, I am providing early notice of
a Feature Freeze Exception I intend to request soon (approximately March
  27)

  What is Needed Now
  -
Waiting a few days for review of
https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-software/-/merge_requests/16

  Impact
  --
I request permission to land a change I am making in Debian to split
gnome-software's .deb support into a separate package,
gnome-software-plugin-deb, to match the existing -snap and -flatpak packages.
This will allow users and flavors to specifically opt into the parts of the
GNOME Software experience they want. For instance, someone may want to use only
the Flatpak part because they use the Snap Store to manage .debs and Snaps. Or
maybe they want a different combination.

This has been requested by multiple users on Ubuntu Discourse and at
least one Launchpad bug and one Debian bug.

  Potential Problems
  ---
- For new installs, gnome-software has Depends: gnome-software-plugin-deb |
gnome-software-plugin. Where gnome-software-plugin is a virtual package
provided by each plugin so a user would get gnome-software-plugin-deb installed
unless they specifically chose a different plugin or the metapackage they
installed did.
-
- However, I think this won't work right for upgrades. I am going to
- investigate whether I can add a ubuntu-release-upgrader quirk to install
- gnome-software-plugin-deb for people who already have gnome-software
- installed. Maybe I need to treat gnome-software like a metapackage so I
- can use PostUpgradeInstall
-
- Otherwise, people are likely to lose support for installing .debs with
- GNOME Software and it is not obvious why.
+ gnome-software has an explicit Recommend: gnome-software-plugin-deb so that
people upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS will keep the deb support installed. That
recommends will be dropped for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS because it won't be needed
then. (There is a Depends on the virtual packages that enable installing apps.)

  Other Related Changes
  -
- I am dropping the fwupd plugin. Ubuntu Desktop includes the firmware-updater
snap. Several Ubuntu desktop flavors also include it. For people who don't want
snaps, there is also the gnome-firmware app packaged as a .deb.
+ I am dropping the fwupd plugin to Suggests so upgrades to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
will likely get it uninstalled and new installs won't have it either unless a
user explicitly installs it later.
+
+ Ubuntu Desktop includes the firmware-updater snap. Several Ubuntu
+ desktop flavors also include it. For people who don't want snaps, there
+ is also the gnome-firmware app packaged as a .deb.

Because Ubuntu already has update-manager to handle apt update
notifications, I am also dropping the autostart file to reduce
  background RAM use.

A few Ubuntu desktop flavors do not provide any firmware updater app at
all. Ubuntu Budgie developers thought a firmware updater app was too
technical for inclusion in the default Ubuntu 24.04 LTS install.

  Desktop Flavors Affected

GNOME Software is currently included in the default install for only
  Ubuntu Cinnamon

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054510] Re: Incomplete screen redraws in virtual machines running Xorg

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

When using software rendering on Xorg (so usually just in VMs), some
parts of app windows may fail to redraw.

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2880

  [ Test Plan ]

  1. Set up a virtual machine without graphics acceleration.
  2. Log into 'Ubuntu on Xorg'.
  3. Open Settings > About and verify Graphics = llvmpipe (or "Software
Rendering"), and Windowing System = X11.
  4. sudo snap install chromium
  5. Open Chromium and find a web page with lots of text. Plain text without
any links and staying at the top of the page will work best because you don't
want to trigger any scrolling.
  6. Start selecting text with the mouse and while holding the button move the
mouse up and down rapidly. Avoid triggering any page scrolling.
  7. Release the mouse button in roughly the middle of the area of text that
was selected.
  8. Verify the remaining text selection is contiguous and not broken into
multiple disconnected text selections (the bug).
  9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 several times to be sure.

[ Where problems could occur ]

The fix adds a new synchronization point between the compositor and X
server. This should be inconsequential, although there is a "sync
ring" in mutter used for this, and if a mistake occurs there then
other parts of the desktop could appear to stop responding in Xorg
  sessions.

  [ Other Info ]

This is a regression that started in 3.37.3 due to
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/551101c65cda.

1 - Connect the headphones to the Laptop while it is still turned off

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2056590] Re: No physical sound through speakers, settings show sound.

2024-03-31 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
You're going to need a kernel >= 6.7
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/486291a0e6246364936df1ecd64c90affef4b9c5/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c#L10086

You probably also need newer cirrus firmware: https://gitlab.com/asus-
linux/firmware/-/tree/main/cirrus

Ubuntu 24.04 will be released in a few weeks and have the needed
components.

** Changed in: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- No physical sound through speakers, settings show sound.
+ [Zenbook 15 UM3504DA_UM3504DA, Realtek ALC294] No physical sound through
speakers, settings show sound.
