[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2061708] Re: Yubikey stopped working after noble upgrade
I don't recommend running with pcscd, it's much more stable to run with direct access, but I do not know why it doesn't seem to work for you, it certainly does for me. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2063501] Re: Sometimes gnome-shell crash upon unlocking session from suspension
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Run these commands: journalctl -b0 > journal.txt journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt and attach the resulting text files here. 2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xwayland (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xwayland in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063501 Title: Sometimes gnome-shell crash upon unlocking session from suspension Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in xwayland package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: # journalctl _COMM=gnome-shell --since="20 minutes ago" -p warning Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int) number < g_list_length (manager->l> Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_workspace_get_work_area_for_monitor: assertion 'logical_monitor != NULL' failed Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int) number < g_list_length (manager->l> Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_workspace_get_work_area_for_monitor: assertion 'logical_monitor != NULL' failed Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int) number < g_list_length (manager->l> Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_workspace_get_work_area_for_monitor: assertion 'logical_monitor != NULL' failed Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int) number < g_list_length (manager->l> Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_workspace_get_work_area_for_monitor: assertion 'logical_monitor != NULL' failed Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int) number < g_list_length (manager->l> Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_workspace_get_work_area_for_monitor: assertion 'logical_monitor != NULL' failed Apr 25 23:36:04 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: JS ERROR: TypeError: this._settings is null getInt@file:///usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/tiling-assist...@ubuntu.com/src/common.js:136:9 _onMoving@file:///usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/tiling-assist...@ubuntu.com/src/extension/moveHandler.js:361:38 @resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/init.js:21:20 Apr 25 23:36:11 hostname gnome-shell[3682]: meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int) number < g_list_length (manager->l> Apr 25 23:36:32 hostname gnome-shell[190040]: Gio.UnixInputStream has been moved to a separate platform-specific library. In 20.04 or 22.04 or 22.10 gnome-tweaks allowed to do that. Today in 23.04, it only changes font in gnome-shell ( top panel, activities and app's views ) but not in other app's, not in the whole interface as it used to do. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2063397] Re: extracting rar archives sometime incomplete
I have tried to create an archive of my own to reproduce the problem. I think I have succeeded. Check the included archive, which contains: - 10 folders containing 10 (empty) text files - a zip archive containing a single file filled with some data gleaned from /dev/random observation: - trying to inspect the contents with file-roller causes file-roller to crash - extracting the file extracts only the contents of the zip archive (compare: extraction from the CLI with rar e) more observations: - I had to compress from the command line (with the rar utility) as nautilus consistently crashes if I try to compress through the context menu ("compress") - the issue appears to match this report on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/1btxk69/nautilus_crashing_when_selecting_multiple_files/ ** Attachment added: "archive.rar" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2063397/+attachment/5770668/+files/archive.rar -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063397 Title: extracting rar archives sometime incomplete Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Extraction of rar files (v5) from the context menu ("Extract") occasionally results in one or more subfolders silently being skipped. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2063476] Re: libwebkit2gtk-4.0.so.37: undefined symbol: gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2
Ok, this was introduced upstream somewhere between 2.36.0 (jammy release) and 2.44.0 (jammy-updates). webkit2gtk now detects whether gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2 exists at build time; if so, it uses them. This is not a problem for the main archive, as the libgbm that mesa provides includes those symbols, but some proprietary drivers include their own libgbm (notably, here, the ARM MALI drivers) and this change has accidentally and silently broken the effective driver ABI for Ubuntu 22.04. In this case here it seems like it will be easy enough to patch the code to dynamically resolve gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2 - the upstream code already has an implementation for where this is not available at build time. That's not an archive-wide solution, though. It's not *entirely* obvious to me whether this should be considered an SRU regression - I'm inclined to think so, but I don't hold that opinion strongly. I'll take the temperature of the SRU team on this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to webkit2gtk in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063476 Title: libwebkit2gtk-4.0.so.37: undefined symbol: gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2 Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in webkit2gtk package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Cannot run gnome-control-center due to missing symbol lookup. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2062967] Re: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers
Update: I just upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and still no 550 drivers available. Before upgrading to 24.04 I tried installing the driver version 545 on Ubuntu 23.10 via the driver tool and immediately got hit by a dependency error and at some point the installation just froze. I decided to install 24.04 freshly from scratch after this. Nvidia driver installation really has to be worked on when installing via the additional drivers tool. It's lacking newer drivers and it's too unstable when doing anything above the tested driver set. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-drivers-common in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062967 Title: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers Status in ubuntu-drivers-common package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: While I am unclear which package update impacted the video drivers detected by ubuntu-drivers, the nvidia 545 and nvidia 550 video drivers are no longer shown as an option on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 video card. I can understand the removal of the nvidia 545 drivers as the current kernel's linux-signatures-nvidia-6.8.0-28-generic package lacks signatures for the nvidia 545 kernel modules for secure boot but the nvidia 550 kernel modules signatures are available. So while it would be acceptable to downgrade the 'tested' default nvidia driver to 535, ubuntu-drivers and Additional Drivers should be offering the nvidia 550 drivers as an untested option. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2055012] Re: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong.
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2054761 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054761 I had UI crash during upgrade from jammy. I had to go to recovery mode and run dpkg. I confirm sudo apt install systemd-resolved resolves the problem. But the upgrade is not recommended as you may encounter unfinished upgrade and gnome shell crash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055012 Title: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong. Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in ubuntu-release-upgrader package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I was an unpatient idiot, and I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04. Near to the end of the upgrade, I got an „Oh, no! Something has gone wrong and the system cannot recover. Call the system administrator” message after a red FAILED in the terminal. The system administrator is myself, because my computer is a personal one. Hard reset, same error, Ctrl+Alt+F3, sudo apt reinstall gdm3. Obviously. I needed to finish the update with dpkg. While dpkg was upgrading, it printed an error message for every WiFi connection: „[Failed] Failed to migrate [I do not remember, something with /etc/netplan]” It took at least one and a half hour to find the solution on Ask Ubuntu. The problem was: /etc/resolv.conf became a broken link, along with systemd-resolve.service. I needed to remove both of them and write a new resolv.conf to fix the error. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1958019]
Created attachment 306213 kernel-mute.log (In reply to Tintin from comment #874) > # . tas2781-2dev-on.sh 2 Sorry if this is a bit long, but trying to include info to help debug the issue. Well, it has finally happened again... It seems like the script hasn't really helped... But I'll have to try it again next time this happens to determine what, if any, role it had. So far it looks like it hasn't helped. I was able to get my sound working by running this: "killall pipewire- pulse" and quitting/killing audacious (audacious usually but not always hangs when this starts happening), and quitting firefox, thought not necessarily in that order? But even that isn't enough to completely fix it. Likely, it would come back as soon as I start playing audio from more than one application at a time. When playing audio from another application, it would work for a few seconds, and then one of the applications would stop working. Almost like the audio device had become usable by one application at a time (like in the early ALSA days prior to pulseaudio becoming common). And probably if I stopped the other application, it usually wouldn't stop working again until repeating the above steps. But playing with it some more (with both quitting applications, killing pipewire-pulse over and over), I was eventually able to get audio to consistently work again (ie, normally) for about the last 30 minutes or so. I tried logging out and back at one point... That didn't seem to fix it either. It wasn't until several (or a bunch more) killing pipewire- pulse, restarting firefox and audacious a few times (I could try other software too!) that it started working again. I'm leaning toward this being a pipewire-pulse issue at this point... but it's possible that there's a driver issue that causes pipewise-pulse becoming wedged, and that running tas2781-2dev-on.sh and killing pipewise-pulse I'm eventually able to get things into a good state. If this happens again, I will conduct more testing... And I say if, because I think Ubuntu 24.04 is out today, and if it is... I will likely upgrade. If this is a software issue, good chance 24.04 won't have this problem. I'll report back with my results either way. Anyone else tried killing pipewire-pulse when having issues? I didn't see any sort of run away processes, I simply did "ps paux | grep pulse" and that was the only process that showed up so I tried killing it. It was just a guess from remembering all the early pulseaudio issues from over a decade ago. :D Here's my info for convenience: Kernel 6.8.7 Kubuntu 23.10 Running with KDE+Wayland My pipewire-pulse info: apt policy pipewire-pulse pipewire-pulse: Installed: 0.3.79-2 Candidate: 0.3.79-2 Version table: *** 0.3.79-2 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu mantic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I didn't have this problem with the older kernel 6.7.x series, but maybe there was a pipewire-pulse update that happened? Or and update to a package it depends on? Finally, I've attached the requested dmesg output. My audio problems started after 10:30 (maybe around 10:40-ish?) and my audio had been completely working for around 15 minutes as of the time I'd captured that dmesg output. Seems like nothing really relevant, but maybe there's something helpful? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1958019 Title: [Lenovo Legion7 16ACHg6 82N6, Realtek ALC287, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all Status in sound-2.6 (alsa-kernel): Confirmed Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On my Lenovo Legion-7-16ACHg6 laptop I can't hear any sound by internal speakers, but it work by headphones connected to standard jack aux. uname -r 5.11.0-44-generic ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.11.0-44.48~20.04.2-generic 5.11.22 Uname: Linux 5.11.0-44-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.21 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC2: i3draven 1266 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: i3draven 1266 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: i3draven 1266 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/pcmC1D0p: i3draven 1266 F...m pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Jan 15 15:10:53 2022 InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-10-11 (96 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20210819) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: alsa-driver Symptom: audio Symptom_AlsaPlaybackTest: ALSA playback test through plughw:Generic failed Symptom_Card: Family 17h (Models 10h-1fh) HD Audio Controller - HD-Audio Generic Symptom_DevicesInUse: USERPID ACCES

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2063484] [NEW] Other Software now displays the Suites instead of the Comments
Public bug reported: Since updating from Ubuntu 24.04 (from 23.10), software-properties-gtk shows the wrong field in the UI for Other Software. Where it should show the Comment field, it shows the Suites field. It only does it if there is a value in Comment though. For instance, imagine I have Inkscape PPA as a software source, with the Suites “hirsute” and the Comment “Inkscape”. In the UI, it will show “hirsute” instead of “Inkscape” as a title like it used to do. If I empty the Comment field, it does remove the title and “hirsute” is not displayed. One more thing from the upgrade: all the Comment fields’ content got lost in the process. So I have no some sources that I can’t remember why I had installed, even though I have software coming from them, which I had indicated in Comment. This has been working well for the past 10-15 years, so it’s definitely a mistake that has been introduced with the new version. The field edit dialogue has changed a little bit, so I’m guessing that change introduced the bug. ** Affects: software-properties (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-properties in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063484 Title: Other Software now displays the Suites instead of the Comments Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since updating from Ubuntu 24.04 (from 23.10), software-properties-gtk shows the wrong field in the UI for Other Software. Using the virt- manager GUI, I performed what I believe is a simple, plain-vanilla installation of an Ubuntu 22.04 guest running under qemu/kvm with 2 vCPUs and 4 GB memory. I'm seeing very frequent, 15-second freezes of the guest. When it happens, the guest is completely unresponsive. After about 15 seconds, it works normally again, until the next freeze. The duration of the freeze appears to be the same every time. The guest isn't doing much - just open the calculator app and click number buttons. The freeze doesn't happen if I don't interact with the guest (just leave the system monitor running in the guest, so I can see that it's not frozen). I observe the freeze when I have 2 of the 4 vCPUs dedicated to the guest. I do NOT observe it when I have only one vCPU dedicated to the guest. Both the host and guest are using only a small fraction of the memory available to them. When the problem happens, the host indicates that CPU usage is very low across all vCPUs. The host appears to be operating normally when the guest is frozen. I see the following pair of lines in the guest syslog every time the freeze occurs (and only when the freeze occurs): May 10 13:48:40 qemu-jammy kernel: [ 144.259799] qxl :00:01.0: object_init failed for (8298496, 0x0001) May 10 13:48:40 qemu-jammy kernel: [ 144.259819] [drm:qxl_alloc_bo_reserved [qxl]] *ERROR* failed to allocate VRAM BO I don't see anything in the host syslog that correlates with the freeze. If I choose "Virtio" in the Video drop-down in the virt-manager GUI, with "3D acceleration" UNchecked, the guest works fine, and the freeze never happens. Unfortunately, that loses fractional scaling, which is important to me. If I check "3D acceleration," the guest won't boot. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2063397] Re: extracting rar archives sometime incomplete
Sadly, no. The archives in question are copyrighted so I doubt it would be a good idea to post them here in the open. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063397 Title: extracting rar archives sometime incomplete Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Extraction of rar files (v5) from the context menu ("Extract") occasionally results in one or more subfolders silently being skipped. This behavior is not systematic. Some rar archives extract properly, other ones do not. There is not any warning or error message when the problem manifests, which make it likely that the problem goes overlooked. I have effectively sustained data loss until I discovered that one of my extracted folders was much smaller than it should have been. I have unrar (non-free) and 7z installed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2059756] Re: [SRU] adsys 0.14.1
** Description changed: [context] ADSys is a tool designed for administering and implementing Group Policy Objects (GPOs) from Active Directory on Linux systems. It includes a suite of services and commands that empower administrators to efficiently manage policy updates and maintain compliance with organizational business rules. Given that ADSys directly interfaces with Active Directory and needs to align with new business requirements in LTS releases, it has been essential to keep the package consistently updated with the latest changes of ADSys upstream source. As ADSys is a key component of our commercial offerings, our customers anticipate the availability of recently implemented features in the 22.04 release. Now that ADSys has a complete set of features, the request is to proceed with a one-off release of ADSys 0.14.1 to 22.04. Please note that any new features introduced in subsequent versions will be exclusively available in 24.04 and later releases. This version includes a comprehensive end to end automated test suite that runs ADSys against a real Active directory environment. Version 0.14.1 is available for 22.04 in a PPA (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-enterprise-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/adsys) and already used in production by customers. See comment #10 and my #11 and #13 responses Years ago I installed an amdgpu package from an extrnal source and had forgotten about it. ldd showed that libwebkit2gtk was referencing libgbm from /opt/* The proper package is in /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ So I used synaptic to remove the manually installed amdgpu package. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1838249] Re: crash on startup
In Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS I can confirm this bug. Updating to Libreffice 24.2 does not solve it. Calling libreoffice with: SAL_DISABLE_CUPS=true libreoffice24.2 solves the crash. In fact, FoxitReader also crashes when printing. And the gnome-control-center crashes when setting printers. So the problem is not with Libreofficce. The error given is: dbus[508084]: arguments to dbus_message_iter_append_basic() were incorrect, assertion "_dbus_check_is_valid_utf8 (*string_p)" failed in file ../../../dbus/dbus-message.c line 2760.
