[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1501588] Re: Wily's wpasupplicant frequently fails on WPA enterprise networks

2015-10-29 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Just noting that installing version 2.1-0ubuntu7.2 from Vivid and
pinning it works as workaround.

In addition, I tend to agree with comment #6 on the importance of having
an adequate understanding of the severity of the issue. Nobody can
expect and force all those faulty Radius servers to be upgraded by the
companies, universities and other organisations just because the bug
only hits Linux users.

Wily's wpasupplicant frequently fails on WPA enterprise networks

Bug description:
Ever since I upgraded from vivid to wily on my laptop, I'm running
into problems when connecting to my home WPA2 enterprise network.

Typically the first connection immediately after the driver is loaded
works as expected, however any further reconnection and the occasional
roaming between APs cause wpasupplicant to freeze entirely requiring
me to kill it and most often also reload my wireless driver to get
  things working again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1307128] [NEW] Dash Search Keeps Launching Tomboy Instances When Tomboy Source is ON

2014-04-13 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Public bug reported:

When Tomboy search source is ENABLED in Unity Dash, a simple search is
enough to trigger launching of new Tomboy instances. Once the source is
DISABLED, no search triggers this bug.

How to reproduce: Enable the Tomboy source, open Dash and start typing
something what might trigger Tomboy. Say, typing Tomboy or just Tom
and so on, and deleting it and typing again, is enough to keep firing
new instances.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-25 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Having the most recent packages from the -proposed, I noticed some
strange and different scenarious.

Firs of all, on my laptop running GNOME 3.8 from the GNOME3 PPA:

1. I _am_ able to change the keyboard layout with the (now default) Super+Space
combo; however,
2. Whenever I press my old combo of choice (Shift+Shift), the layout (whichever
is activated) is changed to a English one despite me not even having it on the
layout list. What is even stranger, despite keyboard layout being switched to
an English one, I see the indicator's label changing as if it is normally
cycling through the layouts. No matter how many times I would press the
aforementioned combo, I am unable to switch back to any of the layouts on my
list. Solution: to press Super+Space or with the mouse.

Secondly, on another laptop running Unity:

1. I am _not_ able to change the keyboard layout with the default Super+Space
combo, nothing happens when I press it. Or rather it just inputs a space
wherever the input cursor is.
2. I _am_ able to change and cycle through the layouts after changing the
default Super+Space combo (which does not work) to Shift+Alt.

Bug description:
A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only
be an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-17 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Ladies and gentelmen, this is a farce. What age are we living in? For at
least three releases they didn't care about GNOME lacking the keyboard
indicator because of how they mixed up wrong versions of GNOME and IBus
packages. It took 1.5-2 years to get this fixed. Thanks! Alas the rocket
scientists at Ubuntu finally shot themselves in the foot. Again.

I upgraded my Ubuntu GNOME Remix to 13.10 few weeks ago and in GNOME
this strange Super+Space combo *works*: both the actual layout and the
indicator is changed. (But why on earth is this combo enforced as a
default? I didn't ask for it: for the last decade I've been switching
layouts with Shift+Shift and would be glad to continue with it as is.
Well, at least something works for now.)

However, I just upgraded another laptop which runs Unity. And there even
the Super+Space combo doesn't work. Only the dash gets opened, which
means there is no way to change the layout.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1078466] [NEW] Reproducable crash of X server triggered by a dropdown list in Epiphany browser 3.6.1

2012-11-13 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Public bug reported:

First of all, I'm not sure if this is a bug in xserver-xorg, so feel
free to reassign, nevertheless it has as its effect a crashed X session.
As the title says, this reproducable crash of X server is triggered by a
clicked dropdown list on one website (I haven't looked for other
examples) in Epiphany (now known as Web) browser 3.6.1.

How to reproduce:

Fire Epiphany (Web) browser up and go to http://www.proz.com/search/.
You will see two dropdown lists there, click one of them, for example,
Any source language. You should see a weird bar running vertically
across the screen for just a moment and voila, there comes a crash of
your X session.

I'm using the default Adwaita Gtk+ theme 3.6.0.2 under GNOME Shell
3.6.1, just in case the theming engine or the Shell would have anything
to do with it.

** Description changed:

First of all, I'm not sure if this is a bug in xserver-xorg, so feel
free to reassign, nevertheless it has as its effect a crashed X session.
As the title says, this reproducable crash of X server is triggered by a
clicked dropdown list on one website (I haven't looked for other
examples) in Epiphany (now known as Web) browser 3.6.1.

  How to reproduce:

- Fire Epiphany (Web) browser and go to http://www.proz.com/search/. You
- will see two dropdown lists there, click one of them, for example, Any
- source language. You should see a weird bar running vertically across

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1049210] Re: Gnome-shell notification from empathy doesn't contain any text

2012-11-08 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
May I ask why does it take so long to release an updated package
containing a tiny tiny fix that solves one of the most annoying issues
on Ubuntu's GNOME? It's been available on Tim's PPA
https://launchpad.net/~darkxst/+archive/ppa/+build/3935337 for ten days
already, even longer on Debian and still it haven't reached even the
quantal-proposed. Not to mention that this -proposed queue is altogether
unnecessary in this case, since the patch is a one-liner and it does
work as intended.

Ubuntu used to be quick in dealing with such trivial things, therefore
it's sad that it somehow just blown everything up with all those
inadequate policies in the past few years. Having a simple and
acknowledge PPA that would work like, e.g., Debian Experimental, where
packages are put first, if there are doubts about their quality, so that
users could test them, would make the things more available.

Title:
Gnome-shell notification from empathy doesn't contain any text

Status in GNOME Shell:
  Unknown
Status in “telepathy-logger” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in “telepathy-logger” source package in Quantal:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [IMPACT]
  * Empathy chat message notification popup is not displayed.
  * notification in the messagetray is missing message contents/text.

This is due to an incorrect introspection annotation, that has been
fixed upstream and in debian package telepathy-logger 0.4.0-2.

  [TESTCASE]
  1. setup empathy with an IM account
  2. get someone to message you
Notice that no popup notifaction appears, additionally the empathy
notification in the message tray is missing the text from the message.

Apply the fix and repeat step 2 (make sure there are no existing
  notifications in the tray)

Now you will be correctly notified by a popup, and the notification in
the message tray will contain the message text.

  [Regression Potential]
I believe the gobject introspection interface for telepathy logger is only
used by gnome-shell, so its very unlikely to cause problems with any other
packages.

  === Original Bug Report ===
  Ubuntu 12.10 beta 1
The problem occures with the combination of gnome-shell and empathy but I had
to choose only one package...

When I receive a message from someone through empathy (connected to google
talk) and the window for chatting with that person is not opened yet, the
notification trai contains an icon for that person but the text content is
missing and empathy's chat window doesn't open but if you open it manually the
text is there.
After replying in gnome-shell notification window you get all the new
messages that the person writes afterwards without any problems but you never
get the old messages.

  How to reproduce:
Open empathy chat window (google talk).
  Say something to someone.
When that person replies write him something back in gnome-shell notification
window and then close the empathy chat window on desktop (or if the window
isn't opened yet just double click on gnome-shell notification window and close
empathy window then after replying).
When that person replies back you will only get the notification icon without
the text. Also the notification window won't pop up from notification tray and
empathy chat window won't open.
If the person writes something else the notification window will pop up as
normal containing the text that that person wrote next (without the text that
was written first).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1062789] [NEW] File recovery dialog is shown on every launch

2012-10-06 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
Public bug reported:

After upgrading LibreOffice to 1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu1 it shows the file
recovery dialog every time I open any file (odt, docx, xls, etc.)
presuming that LO crashed the last time it was launched, which is not
the case it seems since it closes normally. More over, it keeps adding

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session

2012-09-30 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
I'd like to object against tagging it's importance as 'Low.' Changing
layouts, you know, it's some UX basics that should 'just work' in the
21st century. I use at least 4 layouts (the current limit on Ubuntu)
daily, switching between them back and forth, and needless to say this
is _very_ inconvenient for me and many other users, I believe. As is the
option to wait another 7 months (!) at the very least until this is
resolved.

I understand that it's late in the cycle, but it's not a LTS release
after all, so something should be done about that.

  - mouse pointer freezes for ~30 seconds at a time
  - unable to switch applications or open others (so can't open terminal to see
what is happening) or this is extremely delayed
  - music continues to play, but has a skipping effect
  - once I manage to get the mouse pointer to the right position and close
rhythmbox, system returns to normal

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 992154] Re: Unable to interpret cyrillic encoding

2012-06-26 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
In order to increase your chances of getting some attention to the
issue, I would suggest you to report this bug directly on the GNOME's
Bugzilla.

Title:
  Unable to interpret cyrillic encoding

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
As described in the question by user tigra:
I have problem with view russian names of files in rhythmbox. Names of files
and additional information in files is not readable. Cyrillic encoding problem?
My system is ubuntu 7.04. Files stored on NTFS.

I think this deserves to be looked at as a bug, since most users will
see it as such without thinking about needing to reencode file names
nor knowing that this is possible or how to do it.

Since Rhythmbox is now again the standard music player for Ubuntu, I
believe it should expand its support for file name character encodings
  if possible.

Edit: Seeing as how the related question is put so far down on
Launchpad, I will post the link here too. It describes a work-around,
which is not for non-technical users:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 976534] Re: Rhythmbox cummulates memory in precise - probably memory leak

2012-06-21 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
According to Jonathan Matthew, the current main developer of Rhythmbox,
GNOME git commits '3dec1ff, fc1e8ca, 7ea940f and 7cdf4cd fix even more
leaks'. See gnome bug #677738 for the full list.

Can Ubuntu 12.04 LTS users expect these very important patches for the
*default* media player to reach their systems in the nearest future? Or
at least backport them to the Quantal version so that someone with
packaging knowledge would at least be able to backport the package to
Precise.

2012-06-13 Thread Žygimantas Beručka
It is claimed in the upstream report that a number of recent commits (4
in total since 2.97 so far) fix even more of 'huge leaks.' I would like
to kindly ask you to consider backporting them to Precise. It's very
important to make Rhythmbox, which is the *main* media player, actually
usable in Precise.

Title:
Huawei broadband modem fails to connect after the most recent Ocelot
  update (Sep. 3.2011)

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Huawei broadband modem fails to connect to Tigo, Honduras, after the
most recent Ocelot update (Sep. 3.2011). 3.0.0.9 Kernel.

Ocelot finds and recognises the modem, and dials, but it just fails to
connect to the Internet service. I'm back in Natty now and I'm
connecting fine. Also, it was connecting without issue (in Ocelot) 10
  minutes ago before the upgrade.

  The update log is attached.

  Any thoughts?

  Regards,

  CaymanPirate
