[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1876065] Re: After unplug headphones and plug them again no sound can be heard
@Kai-Heng Feng Mine is okay, too. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1873384 A little suggestion: can you make a pop-up dialogue like ubuntu to choose headphone/headset/mic? It will makes a lot easier to use headphone/headset for KDE and Xfce4 users. Thanks a lot. Now I can use my headset's mic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876065 Title: After unplug headphones and plug them again no sound can be heard Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After startup with headset plugged in they play sound nicely - no issue. When they are unplugged, the sound is switched to the speaker (laptop) - all good. However, when I plug the headset back there is no sound. I see the app on pavucontrol, the volume is fine - everything looks fine except there is no sound. I dumped output of "pactl list" command on startup (headset plugged), after unplugging the headset, and when it is plugged back. From the comparison of these outputs, it looks like the source has got muted after the headset is plugged. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873384] Re: [Dell Inspiron 5577] Headphone has no sound out
@Cruz Fernandez In my laptop the 'headset' mode makes the headset totally unavailable, both the speaker and mic. The 'headphone' mode is okay with headset speaker and laptop internal mic. And I do think that there should be the same POPUP-DIALOG for user to choose in KDE and Xfce4 environment. It's inconvenient without it if 'headset' mode is actually unusable for user. Without it the user have to dig-in deep to PulseAudio Panel and find out the key setting of 'internal mic'. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873384 Title: [Dell Inspiron 5577] Headphone has no sound out Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Computer: Dell inspiron 15 5577 Gaming intel i5 7300HQ version System: Kubuntu 20.04 Bug: Plug-in headphone has no sound out, meanwhile computer's speaker is okay when unplugged the headphone. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873384] Re: [Dell Inspiron 5577] Headphone has no sound out
@Hui Wang My problem is different from the comment you provided, LOL. 1. I'm using Kubuntu. Kubuntu DOESN'T HAVE the POPUP-DIALOG because KDE environment uses PulseAudio to manage audio system. When a user plug in a headset there are no options to choose from, the program sets it automatically. It's the same problem in Xfce4 of Xubuntu. 2. Before I plug in, the capture is the internal one. But when I do, the settings automatically changes to 'Microphone' or 'Headset Microphone', in both situation my headset is unable to work.(KDE envionment, all these settings are accessible in PulseAudio) Only after I've change the setting to 'Internal Microphone' manually could I hear the voice. 3. I installed Ubuntu Desktop and tested the problem in the environment. The POPUP-DIALOG shows with the 3 options when I plug in headset. 'Microphone' option can make my headset work. 'Headset' option makes the same problem as KDE&Xfce4 one. 4. Does the Dell laptop you got have the 2 x 3.5mm Headset Jack or the 1 x 3.5mm Headset Jack which is same as my laptop? Or there is something different in the circuit design or audio device firmware settings that makes the differences appear. Anyway, thank you for your help. Without it I can't dig in the problem and find something. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873384] Re: Headphone has no sound out
Update: I find out that in PulseAudio Panel the settings of input device should be choose as 'Internal Microphone' rather than 'Headset Microphone' or 'Microphone', and the speakers of my headset can work properly. My laptop's 1 jack hole connection and headset can work properly on Windows, both headset speaker and mic can work. Suggestion: Add correct support for 1 jack headset in linux audio frameworks, no matter PulseAudio, Alsa and so on. 1 jack headset can save 1 x 3.5mm hole position from traditional 2 x 3.5mm headset, more and more laptop will accept such kind of headset connection. ** Attachment added: "The photo of my 1 jack hole headset connection of inspiron 15 gaming 5577" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1873384/+attachment/5360855/+files/20200426_232901.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873384 Title: Headphone has no sound out Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Computer: Dell inspiron 15 5577 Gaming intel i5 7300HQ version System: Kubuntu 20.04 Bug: Plug-in headphone has no sound out, meanwhile computer's speaker is okay when unplugged the headphone. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873384] Re: Headphone has no sound out
I've installed Ubuntu Desktop and now I find out the problem's temporary solve. Please someone can notify the teams that can solve this problem. In Ubuntu Desktop, when I plug in the headphone(headset actually, it have speaker and mic and can work properly on mobile phone, one 3.5mm jack), the pop-dialogue show up and give me 3 choose items--- Headphone Headset and Speaker When I choose the headphone item, my headset speakers can work properly. I didn't test the mic because my laptop have a build-in one. When I choose the headset, the problem shows up, my headset can't work. In KDE Desktop and Xfce, they both use PulseAudio Control Panel. PulseAudio detects headphone automatically without pop-up dialogue, and the problem shows up. Maybe the PulseAudio detects the headset correctly, but it treat the headset as old fashioned 2 x 3.5mm jacks kind. Now the new kinds of headset have only one 3.5mm jack with speaker & mic channel on it. My Inspiron 15 Gaming 5577 have the 2-in-1 3.5mm jack hole so when system use old fashion mode it can't work properly. It can also explain why it can work in headphone mode. Headphone mode is compatible with the 1 jack headset but can't use headset's mic. Suggestions: Provide KDE and Xfce4 Desktop environment 'Headphone plug- in' pop-up dialogue so that we can choose 'headphone'compatible mode at least. Separate headset mode into '1 jack headset' and '2 jack headset' mode to make headset work properly in different platform. ** Also affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => 黄闫 (prayerholmes) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873384 Title: Headphone has no sound out Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Computer: Dell inspiron 15 5577 Gaming intel i5 7300HQ version System: Kubuntu 20.04 Bug: Plug-in headphone has no sound out, meanwhile computer's speaker is okay when unplugged the headphone.
