Bug description:
  [Impact]
Users booting from OEM setup may find that their wireless device is "not
ready" as per NetworkManager, because wpasupplicant is not running. This is
because the steps taken to start in OEM prepare, before moving to the real
system runs systemctl isolate, and wpasupplicant gets caught in the crossfire.

  [Test case]
  * Steps to reproduce:
  1. Install in OEM mode
  2. Boot into OS
  3. Check the wifi status in network-manager applet

  * Expected result:
Available APs listed in network-manager applet, wifi connection can be
established

  * Actual result:
AP list replaced by a greyed-out "device not ready" wording
Reboot system or do "$ sudo service network-manager restart" and wifi will
then start working correctly.

  [Regression potential]
The following are examples of possible regression scenarios from this stable
update:
  - Failure to get the wireless device ready at session start
  - Driver loading issues for the wireless devices
  - Failure to complete OEM preparation steps, due to the oem user remaining
connected while it's being removed by the last steps of the OEM preparation
process.

  [Background information]
  * OS: Xenial
  * Network-manager: 1.1.93-0ubuntu4
  * Wireless module: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88W8897 [AVASTAR] 802.11ac
Wireless [11ab:2b38]

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1893563] Re: netplan: can't login to ap mode with psk

2021-02-12 Thread Andrej Shadura
Right, my apologies, I was too quick to be angry: I only checked the
patch proposed here but not the actual one committed — and apparently I
haven’t read the discussion to the end.

Having checked the actual package, I see it is in fact a patch from the
upstream Git.

Still, it’d be great if you could at least notify me, and it would be
much better if we could first push such changes into Debian first.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1893563] Re: netplan: can't login to ap mode with psk

2021-02-12 Thread Andrej Shadura
I’ve just verified and in fact not only this hasn’t been submitted
upstream, but the upstream has shipped an alternative implementation of
this by Beniamino Galvani (@bengal).

I’d really appreciate if Ubuntu didn’t add non-trivial patches without
discussion with the upstream and me as the Debian maintainer for this
package.

Bug description:
Some wifi adapters kept asking for a password when MAC address
  randomization was enabled.

I reported this to Realtek, and they gave me a patch for
  wpa_supplicant, which fixes the issue.

I asked Realtek to report this upstream to wpasupplicant, and they
  did, the commit is:
  http://w1.fi/cgit/hostap/commit/?id=7546c489a95a033c78331915fcdfa0e6fd74d563

It would be very nice to cherrypick that for Focal.

I uploaded it as a merge request below, and I tested that it fixes the issue
with adapters based on the following chipsets:
  ath9k, rtl8812au, rtl88x2bu and rtl8821cu

  To reproduce this:

Ubuntu's network-manager defaults to "MAC randomization disabled", I think as
a workaround to this specific issue. This is defined in two places:
  - wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
  - Some specific drivers in
/usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/no-mac-addr-change.conf.

With these, the problem happens in around 10% of the cases.
To be able to reproduce it in 100% of the cases, it's best to remove these
Ubuntu workarounds. So:
  - Set "wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=yes" in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
  - Remove /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/no-mac-addr-change.conf.
  - systemctl stop network-manager
  - killall wpa_supplicant
  - systemctl start network-manager

Then insert a USB wifi adapter that results in a big name with 15
characters like wlx74ee2ae2436a and try to connect to a wifi network.
It will keep asking for a password.

Then apply the patch, run the 3 commands above to restart network-
manager, and verify that it can now connect properly.

I can also confirm this. Is VAAPI Chromium snap abandoned? It really

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1867908] Re: Fix RTM NEW/DELLINK IFLA_IFNAME copy for maximum ifname length

2020-03-25 Thread Andrej Shadura
@racb, it’s been committed to the upstream package in Debian; just a
sync is needed.

** Package changed: wpasupplicant (Ubuntu) => wpa (Ubuntu)

Title:
Fix RTM NEW/DELLINK IFLA_IFNAME copy for maximum ifname length

Status in wpa package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Some wifi adapters kept asking for a password when MAC address
  randomization was enabled.

I reported this to Realtek, and they gave me a patch for
  wpa_supplicant, which fixes the issue.

I asked Realtek to report this upstream to wpasupplicant, and they
  did, the commit is:
  http://w1.fi/cgit/hostap/commit/?id=7546c489a95a033c78331915fcdfa0e6fd74d563

It would be very nice to cherrypick that for Focal.

I uploaded it as a merge request below, and I tested that it fixes the issue
with adapters based on the following chipsets:
  ath9k, rtl8812au, rtl88x2bu and rtl8821cu

  To reproduce this:

Ubuntu's network-manager defaults to "MAC randomization disabled", I think as
a workaround to this specific issue. This is defined in two places:
  - wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
  - Some specific drivers in
/usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/no-mac-addr-change.conf.

With these, the problem happens in around 10% of the cases.
To be able to reproduce it in 100% of the cases, it's best to remove these
Ubuntu workarounds. So:
  - Set "wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=yes" in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
  - Remove /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/no-mac-addr-change.conf.
  - systemctl stop network-manager
  - killall wpa_supplicant
  - systemctl start network-manager

Then insert a USB wifi adapter that results in a big name with 15
characters like wlx74ee2ae2436a and try to connect to a wifi network.
It will keep asking for a password.

Then apply the patch, run the 3 commands above to restart network-
manager, and verify that it can now connect properly.

Speaking of which, it would be great if this patch was dropped:

- debian/patches/session-ticket.patch: disable the TLS Session Ticket
extension to fix auth with 802.1x PEAP on some hardware.

This has been superseded by upstream changes a couple of releases ago
and is no longer needed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1770929] Re: backup fails on ubuntu 18.4

2018-09-30 Thread Andrej Kapuš
Hello all,

same issue here with Slovak environment and user with sudo rights.
I found workaround by changing storage location to folder, which is located in
home directory and thus user has direct access to it.

It looks like access rights issues.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1576024] Re: Wifi "device not ready" after booting into OS for the 1st time

@cyphermox, has there been any proper solution of this since then? Is
the patch still needed?

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Users booting from OEM setup may find that their wireless device is "not
ready" as per NetworkManager, because wpasupplicant is not running. This is
because the steps taken to start in OEM prepare, before moving to the real
system runs systemctl isolate, and wpasupplicant gets caught in the crossfire.

  [Test case]
  * Steps to reproduce:
  1. Install in OEM mode
  2. Boot into OS
  3. Check the wifi status in network-manager applet

  * Expected result:
Available APs listed in network-manager applet, wifi connection can be
established

  * Actual result:

  * OS: Xenial
  * Network-manager: 1.1.93-0ubuntu4
  * Wireless module: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88W8897 [AVASTAR] 802.11ac
Wireless [11ab:2b38]

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1638990] Re: nvidia-367 with kernel 4.4.0-45-generic won't boot

2016-12-07 Thread Andrej Kosar
After yesterdays kernel update I tried my luck if something has changed.
And it's working now. Kernel 4.4.0-53-generic and nvidia-367 drivers. Both
nvidia performance mode and intel power saving mode are working.

I tried also for the previous kernel version 4.4.0-51-generic and only
nvidia performance mode was working.

I hope next updates won't screw this up again.
I am on ubuntu 14.04 and I have nvidia GT 630M and intel HD graphics 4000.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1347305] Re: Address fields are grey when composing messages

2016-10-21 Thread Andrej
Actually, problem has diminished:
- Active fields can be found by hovering the mouse.
- When creating new message, first "To:" field is selected by default.
- If you forget to add "Subject:" line, you are reminded.

Personally i got used to new interface and always remember to change
To:, Subject: etc. when i reply or forward message.
So, this bug no longer affects me.

Also, didn't heard any complains from new users.

May-be this bug should be closed?

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When composing a message, any address field that does not have the
cursor is shown as grey. While this is at first only a cosmetic
glitch, it is also serious usability issue: Usually any field that can
be edited is white and text that can't be edited is simply drawn grey.
Now it looks like Thunderbird does not allow editing of the recipient
addresses. Only when you try it regardless you discover that it is
  still editible.

I attached a screenshot showing a stuffed up composer window.

This bug appeared with the latest update of Thunderbird that was

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1410515] [NEW] fsck.jfs is not called before mounting volume

2015-01-13 Thread Andrej Krutak
Public bug reported:

When a volume is improperly unmounted, fsck.jfs needs to be called
before mount - even just to replay journal, it seems.

Even worse, after last few shutdowns (normal=clean ones, from what I can
tell), I get frozen boot because the JFS volume cannot be mounted until
I call fsck manually on that volume - did something change compared to
JFS in 12.04?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1347305] Re: Address fields are grey when composing messages

2014-12-29 Thread Andrej
I work as computer administrator in small company.

1. Had complain from user that in e-mail something has changed
dramatically, Particularly those grayed out fields.

2. Upgraded my own Thunderbird version to see the changes and to see
what i can do about it. After short time was writing Re: email and
wanted to change recipient, but forgot. I usually remember to change
recipients if needed.

** Attachment added: how input field looks in version 31.3.0 (Win7)

Title:
Address fields are grey when composing messages

Status in Mozilla Thunderbird Mail and News:
  In Progress
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When composing a message, any address field that does not have the
cursor is shown as grey. While this is at first only a cosmetic
glitch, it is also serious usability issue: Usually any field that can
be edited is white and text that can't be edited is simply drawn grey.
Now it looks like Thunderbird does not allow editing of the recipient
addresses. Only when you try it regardless you discover that it is
  still editible.

I attached a screenshot showing a stuffed up composer window.

This bug appeared with the latest update of Thunderbird that was
  installed today.

  Xorg memory leak

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Xorg keeps going up with its physical memory usage and it keeps on
doing so until it takes over all of my RAM and eventually my system
becomes highly unstable. It goes up faster if I do stuff on my pc,
like browsing or using applications. After a few days of non-stop
usage I need to restart it because my pc cannot handle it anymore, it
skyrockets, slowly but surely. I'm using ubuntu trusty, fglrx gpu
drivers and everything is encrypted using built-in encryption. This is
a serious issue and needs to be fixed asap, it renders the pc useless
after just a few days. I'll gladly provide further information if you
  contact me on my mail.

2014-08-15 Thread Andrej Prša
Public bug reported:

This bug report concerns shotwell 0.18.1 and earlier on Ubuntu 14.04.

Whenever I start shotwell, it spends ~1 minute writing metadata to
files, and during this time the program is unusable. I am attaching a
debug log. Please let me know if you need any further information.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1296133] Re: Suspend and hibernate missing from KMenu and Power Management in System settings

2014-03-31 Thread Andrej Mernik
I have discovered some additional details. It appears pm-utils are
dependencies of upower, but they didn't install when I did a clean
install of 14.04 and therefore the menu entries were missing. After pm-
utils installation and *reboot*, the buttons are there again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1296133] Re: Suspend and hibernate missing from KMenu and Power Management in System settings

2014-03-22 Thread Andrej Mernik
Below is upower -d output. Interesting lines are:

  can-suspend: no
  can-hibernate: no

This is certainly not true. I can suspend using Lightdm button and pm-
suspend and the system is also able to wake up.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1073433] Re: Ext4 corruption associated with shutdown of Ubuntu 12.10

2013-12-15 Thread Andrej Mernik
I have tried some workarounds from the comments and nothing seems to
work. Fsck still runs at every boot. Bootchart included.

  1. Format and label a target Ext4 partion using Ubuntu 12.04
  2. Install 64bit 12.10 OS using that target without reformatting it

  4. Boot an alternate copy of Ubuntu
  5. Restart selecting the newly installed OS
  6. Login then shutdown
  6. Boot an alternate copy of Ubuntu
7.Fsck the newly installed OS allowing corrections to be made

Each time the the newly installed OS is executed and then shutdown,
even if execution only consists of logging on, a subsequent fsck will
  FAIL.

I used Acronis True Image Home 2013 to create an image of the newly
installed 64-bit Ubuntu 12.10, so I can recreate the symptoms of Ext4
filesystem corruption 100% of the time by restoring from the image,
booting, logging on and shutting down.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1091964] Re: Screen corrupted, [TTM] Out of kernel memory

Screen corrupted, [TTM] Out of kernel memory

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Description:Ubuntu 12.10
  Release:12.10

After upgrading from Precise to Quantal Kubuntu, some applications
cause the screen to become corrupted. If I switch to text console by
Ctrl-Alt-F1, there's lots of the following messages running on the
  screen:

[ 1260.017979] [TTM] Out of kernel memory

One such application is 'easytag', it is typically causing such
misbehavior within 2-3 minutes after startup. Killing the offending
application makes everything go back to normal.

The following is a report on kernel.org's bugzilla which seems
  relevant:

  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43751

I also use nouveau driver (GeForce 8600M GS). Precise Pangolin's
kernel (3.2.0-34) did not exhibit this problem; the Quantal's kernel
  (3.5.0-19) does.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1171081] Re: The numbering of the package is undescriptive

2013-04-22 Thread Andrej Mernik
If there is a reason why the numbering must remain in the current state,
could the YEAR.MONTH be added to the package description. In such a way,
there would be no confusion and the packaging name could remain as it
is.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 996596]

2012-06-01 Thread Andrej
Have the same problem.
My spreadsheet is generated as HTML on web server, it is given extension .xls.
This file can be automatically opened by MS Office, OpenOffice, and
LibreOffice~3.5.3. LibreOffice3.5.3 handles these files as plain text files.
Historically, spreadsheet applications can save spreadsheets in HTML format,
and automatically open these files, if they are given .xls extension.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 488048] Re: gdm overrides keyboard layout in no password mode

2011-09-07 Thread Andrej Mikus
We use 3 layouts on one computer - Bel, Svk, USA. What I miss is the
possibility to set default one in user preferences and have gnome-
session set it upon start, regardless of what comes from gdm. The most
apparent issue is that upon login, the keyboard-indicator does not match
the actual layout used - shows the first from user preferences, but
applied is the layout that arrived from gdm. And as reported in this
bug, with passwordless login there is no way to set it.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

This problem is similar to bugs reported by other people, but it
occurs to me that it is specific to a particular layout, and so maybe
should be reported as a new bug.

The problem is that each time I log in, I have to go back to
  System-Preferences-Keyboard:Layout to delete USA Alternative
international (former us_intl). No matter how many times I delete
this layout, it always returns. And even if this layout is not
selected, it has the peculiar effect of screwing up my other keyboard
layouts. In particular, it screws up USA International (AltGr dead
keys) so that I can't type most Extended Latin-type characters.

I'm using 9.10 Gnome-based Ubuntu. The problem arose only after the
  last upgrade

I also have selected a few layout options:

Alt and meta are on alt keys
  Swap Ctrl and CapsLock
  Key(s) to change layout; menu
Key to choose 3rd level: right alt

The second keyboard that I am using is Bulgarian Traditional
  Phonetic

I'm only using menu options and not playing around with xmodmap or
  anything similar.

  I'm using a Dell laptop.
