These crashes occur: * only on x86 architecture * only on Ubuntu packages (and not on Mozilla's builds) * on precise and saucy and trusty (based on kernel versions reported with the crashes) and appear to be due to a compiler bug in the compiler used to generate Ubuntu's builds. (It could be a common compiler bug triggered by different compiler options or a compiler bug specific to Ubuntu's gcc.) The analysis that leads to the conclusion that this is a compiler bug is in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=983817 . In particular, the compiler is miscompiling an access to an element of an array of unsigned short as a 32-bit read, and when the unsigned short in question is the last one in the allocation and that allocation is aligned so that the byte following has a different 0x10 bit, this can lead to crashes. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1304534] [NEW] Backspace doesn't remove utf-8 multibyte characters
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 13.10 backspace in terminal only deletes one byte of multibyte character. For example: # cat /tmp/test tыbackspacet # cat /tmp/test tt # hexdump -C /tmp/test 74 d1 74 0a Where 'ы' is a russian letter (D18B in hexadecimal form). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10
@Norbert Ubuntu 12.04 was not more stable then 12.10 or 13.04. It's even not claimed to be more stable by Canonical, as it's just long term support. Many applications of older versions aren't usable for real tasks. I can name some examples. GIMP 2.6 (from 12.04) has no layer groups support, so it was completely useless to open PSD-files. OwnCloud 5.0.4 (also from 12.04) has some deal-breaking bugs and known vulnerabilities, making it completely unusable. And the same for ownCloud client. LibreOffice 1.3 is one more example, it's not usable on some complex files. We use OS not for itself but for applications, so LTS is not a solution at all. In other words we need stable base system and fresh applications, but there is no such a choice for Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1226962 Title: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 Status in IBus: New Status in Indicator keyboard: Fix Released Status in Mutter: New Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite: New Status in Unity: Invalid Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “indicator-keyboard” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected non-latin keyboard layout. Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly. Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard layout. Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non- latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts this workaround helps only with one of them. -- For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see bug 1218322. -- To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ibus/+bug/1226962/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10
UPD: ok, m17n partly works. It doesn't work only in Kate on my computer (but works on nearby computer with exactly same configuration). Also there are some side effects in some applications like Thunderbird: if you type symbols in it then Ctrl+Z will revert all symbols one by one (this is not correct behavior). Offtopic: I really don't understand Ubuntu's team politics. What the reason to rewrite and completely break such a essential functionality as layout switching in stable release (and force users to update to this release)?
