[Desktop-packages] [Bug 761065] Re: [Sandybridge] Spurious "*ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle" messages in dmesg when using compiz
On Lenovo g570 ubuntu 12.10 worked perfectly. After upgrade to 13.04 X-Windows started locking up (only the mouse cursor was reacting to mouse movements, but nothing else). The lockup occurs after couple of minutes working in gnome-classic-fallback window manager, no 3D activity was done at the time (at least intentionally). The X lockup is accompanied by messages like these in dmesg (every second or so): [ 533.963858] [drm:i915_hangcheck_ring_idle] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle [waiting on 25899, at 25898], missed IRQ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761065 Title: [Sandybridge] Spurious "*ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle" messages in dmesg when using compiz Status in The Linux Kernel: Fix Released Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “linux” source package in Natty: Fix Released Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” source package in Natty: Invalid Bug description: SRU Justification: Fixes a constant stream of hangcheck errors flooding dmesg, and removes the visible stuttering that was caused by it when using 3D applications. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1072148] Re: Segfault on SiS 65x/M650/740 card
During my experiments with kernel 3.2.0, the xorg also crashed. I had to disable X11 acceleration for 3.2.0 kernel to work. Same story with kernel 3.5.0. This means that I erred on comment #2 where I claimed that simple reversal to 3.2.0 fixed the problem. Apparently I forgot to mention that somewhere inbetween I disabled X11 acceleration. For what it worth, I tested the 3.7.0-030700rc2-generic kernel and found that it behaves the same way as the 3.2.0 and 3.5.0 kernels - e.g. there is no difference between them (from the bug's perspective). Before upgrade to ubuntu 12.10, both kernel (3.0.0 I guess) and X11+acceleration worked properly. I will update the bug's title to represent the fact. ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-sis (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - Segfault on SiS 65x/M650/740 card + Segfault on SiS 65x/M650/740 card when acceleration is on -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-sis in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072148 Title: Segfault on SiS 65x/M650/740 card when acceleration is on Status in “xserver-xorg-video-sis” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: xserver-xorg-video-sis version 1:0.10.7-0ubuntu1 (as provided by 12.10 - quantal distro) segfaults on startup.
