[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1622614] [NEW] window text disappearing for most applications after unlock

2016-09-12 Thread Benedikt Troester
Public bug reported:

Hi!

I've created a thread a while ago about this:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/786146/text-partially-disappearing-in-many-applications-after-unlocking-on-xubuntu

Basically the second issue is still existing. Here are the details:
Ever since I updated to the new Xubuntu version (16) I have this behavior:
After unlocking I sometimes run into the scenario of disappearing text elements
in some of my application windows. Most applications are effected (eg. thunar,
xfce menues, thunderbird, terminal), others (eg. Chrome, Virtualbox) are not.
The problem looks like this: http://i.stack.imgur.com/LorVH.png

What I tried:
refreshing fonts cache: fc-cache -f -v
xrefresh
restarting the window manager: xfwm4 --replace
switching tty
sudo restart lightdm
startxfce4

Also: I recently updated my Intel drivers in the hope of a fix, I will
let you know if that helped.

After this bug was fixed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1568604 the issue worsened (as stated by
the other poster in my thread). I assume they are related.

System details:
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: disappear text xfce

** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1132736] Re: Xorg fails to start after installing the Hardware Enablement Stack due to missing symlink after purging old xserver-xorg

Status in xorg-lts-trusty package in Ubuntu:

Status in xorg-lts-vivid package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Bug:

The bug happens whenever the remaining configuration files of the
original X stack is removed, ie purging. It does not happen for users
who do not explicitly remove those.

  Workaround:

For example, if upgraded 14.04 LTS to the 14.04.2 HWE stack
  (=14.10/utopic):

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-lts-utopic

  This restores the symlink /etc/X11/X -> /usr/bin/Xorg

  ---

After installing the hardware enablement stack on precise by running:
  sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-quantal xserver-xorg-lts-quantal

Xorg fail to start. There is no error message or anything, just a black
screen. Switching to a vt i possible and lightdm/x-0.log shows that a symlink
is missing:
X: cannot stat /etc/X11/X (No such file or directory), aborting.

I updates two computers running precise x86_64 and both had the
  problem.

Just recreating the symlink fixes the problem and then precise runs
perfectly fine with the new stack (in fact, it's more stable so far).

Title:
  2:1.17.1-0ubuntu4 broke xmir ABI

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I noticed this morning that after I logged in unity-settings-daemon
  was getting an assertion failure.

ERROR:gsd-rr-config.c:661:gsd_rr_config_load_current: assertion
  failed: (gsd_rr_config_match (config, config))

** (unity-settings-daemon:2293): WARNING **: Attempted to init
Xsync, found version 3.1 error base 134 event base 83

which was terminating it and leaving me with a not really functional
  desktop.

After debugging for a while I found this in Xorg.0.log

[81.641] (EE) Failed to load
  /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so:
  /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nouveau_drv.so: undefined symbol:
  xorgMir

i.e. my driver was failing to load which had these knock on effects.

It seems that nouveau is using this symbol from xorg, and it's now
gone as of the latest xmir related upload
  (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/208141145/xorg-
  server_2%3A1.17.1-0ubuntu3_2%3A1.17.1-0ubuntu4.diff.gz). After
rebuilding it works again, but I think that xmir support probably got
disabled, because of the following in xxv-nouveau's src/nv_type.h:

#ifdef XMIR
#include xmir.h
#include xf86Priv.h
#else
typedef struct xmir_screen xmir_screen;
#define xorgMir 0
#endif

  XMIR isn't defined any more.

Please could you investigate if there is any other breakage and fix up
as necessary? I'm going to upload a rebuild of nouveau so nobody else
has these problems but there will be further cleanup required. Would
be ideal to use packaging to force users to never be in a broken
situation, even if just versioned Breaks if you want to avoid doing a
  transition.

The enablement of NetworkManager-wait-online.service in network-
manager 0.9.10.0-4ubuntu10 has made my Kubuntu Vivid x64 system take
nearly twice as long to boot to the login screen. I did some
investigating and determined that this is because sddm.service depends
on systemd-user-sessions.service which depends on remote-fs.target
which depends on network-online.target which depends on
NetworkManager-wait-online.service. For that reason, systemd is
apparently waiting to start sddm until both the wired and wireless
adapters are connected, which makes the system take much longer to
  boot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1425959] [NEW] System sounds are always at 100% volume

2015-02-26 Thread Benedikt
Public bug reported:

Problem is reproducible since the pulseaudio update to version 6.0.

If an error message or system message appears with a warning sound, the
sound volume goes up to 100%.

Muting system sounds does not help.

with a loud sound will appear. The sound volume will be at 100% ( It
does not matter if it was muted before).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1248368] Re: Volume up/down keyboard keys stoped working after gnome-settings-daemon package update

2014-03-10 Thread Benedikt
I see this issue, too (12.04.4 and Lenovo T420). After the gnome-
settings update the volume keys stopped working. The logs show no
warning and error messages... I will try if a rollback to 6.4 will help.

Title:
Volume up/down keyboard keys stoped working after gnome-settings-
  daemon package update

Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After updating gnome-settings-daemon from version 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4
to version 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5 the keyboard volume keys are not
  working.

Pressing the keys does not produce the volume OSD, neither the volume
  is increased or decreased.

The following packages were updated by synaptic:
  cjs (2.0.0-20131021020602-precise) to 2.0.0-20131105020703-precise
  duplicity (0.6.18-0ubuntu3.2) to 0.6.18-0ubuntu3.3
  gimp (2.8.6-0precise1~ppa) to 2.8.8-0precise0~ppa
  gimp-data (2.8.6-0precise1~ppa) to 2.8.8-0precise0~ppa
  gnome-settings-daemon (3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4) to 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5
  libcjs0c (2.0.0-20131021020602-precise) to 2.0.0-20131105020703-precise
  libgimp2.0 (2.8.6-0precise1~ppa) to 2.8.8-0precise0~ppa
  xkb-data (2.5-1ubuntu1.4) to 2.5-1ubuntu1.5
  xserver-common-lts-quantal (2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.3~precise1) to
2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.5~precise1
  xserver-xorg-core-lts-quantal (2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.3~precise1) to
2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6.5~precise1

I suspected that the bug might be in xkb-data and/or gnome-settings-daemon.
Downgrading the xkb-data package the previous version (2.5-1ubuntu1.4) didn't
work.
Downgrading the gnome-settings-daemon package to the previous version
(3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4) worked!
Afterwords I upgraded xkb-data to the latest version (2.5-1ubuntu1.5) and
left gnome-settings-daemon package to the previous version
(3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.4). And this works!!!

In conclusion there is some regression introduced into gnome-settings-
  daemon 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.6.5.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 993989] Re: can't connect to Jabber account

2013-11-16 Thread Benedikt Gollatz
Sorry for answering late, apparently I'm not getting e-mail on launchpad
tickets by default.

I resolved the issue for myself by changing the configuration of my
ejabberd as explained in
http://git.deb.at/w/pkg/ejabberd.git/commit/1c56fb6d96725a465e7ddb401db7551a8ea64769
-- unfortunately this was missing in the documentation at the time of
the upgrade.

You'll have to ask your server operator to do this for you.

Bug description:
Since updating to Ubuntu Precise (before, I hand Lucid) Pidgin won't connect
to my Jabber account. It gets deactivated with the message Not authorized, no
further messages. It happens regardless of whether I use my old configuration

However, it works with (e.g.) Gajim, and even with Pidgin on Windows (2.10.3,
the same version), so this is almost definitely a Pidgin problem.

Here is the (hopefully) relevant (and slightly censored) output of

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 993989] Re: can't connect to Jabber account

2013-07-03 Thread Benedikt Gollatz
I started experiencing this bug after upgrading my Jabber server
(running ejabberd) to Debian wheezy. Someone created an associated bug
report which can be found at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=654853.

I also started to experience this bug on a different machine (previously
not experiencing it there, even after the server upgrade) after
upgrading it to Fedora 19. The Fedora people have fixed this bug (bug
report at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=979052) by
explicitly adding a dependency on the cyrus-sasl-scram library (see
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/pidgin.git/commit/?id=a3d3522983ef0633e960dcaefa1973c8667eb2ea).
I can confirm that this fix works for me: the pidgin SASL module will
prefer SCRAM-SHA1 over DIGEST-MD5 and pidgin authenticates successfully.

While this probably doesn't address the underlying bug (possibly in
ejabberd) maybe Ubuntu can also ship the appropriate libraries for
SCRAM-SHA1 support in SASL and fix user experience in this way.

Title:
  can't connect to Jabber account

Status in “pidgin” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since updating to Ubuntu Precise (before, I hand Lucid) Pidgin won't connect
to my Jabber account. It gets deactivated with the message Not authorized, no
further messages. It happens regardless of whether I use my old configuration
or move the whole .purple folder and set the account up afresh.
However, it works with (e.g.) Gajim, and even with Pidgin on Windows (2.10.3,
the same version), so this is almost definitely a Pidgin problem.

Here is the (hopefully) relevant (and slightly censored) output of
  `pidgin --debug`:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1044748] [NEW] ugly gray scroll bar in thunderbird

2012-09-01 Thread Benedikt
Public bug reported:

Since a few releases of thunderbird the scroll bar is in a ugly gray
(see attached screen-shot). The color is not changing if you change the
theming (e.g. from ambiance to radiance). The problem is not present if
you change the theming to high contrast.

The problem is also present in safe-mode and in the guest-session, but
not in my quantal vbox.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 993056] Re: gnome-control-center: PrivacyDiagnostics, Hook does not remain active after activation

2012-05-15 Thread Benedikt
Hi I'm also affected by this Bug. I have added Apport as affected
project, because I think that apport ignores the signal from gnome-
control-center. I don't think that gnome-control-center is at fault.

** Also affects: apport

Title:
MSN for Mac client invisible when comes online

Status in “telepathy-butterfly” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: telepathy-butterfly

Reporting this as a new bug as advised in bug 489647.

Whenever my friend connects to MSN via his MSN Messenger for Mac
Client (version 8.0.0 (100305) beta). He does not show up in my
  available contacts list.

Other clients appear fine (including Adium).

Nothing appears in the empathy logs.

In the butterfly log, when he connects, the following appears:
