[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1899206] Re: Input device settings not applied on hotplug/reconnect/resume in Xorg sessions

2021-01-07 Thread Brendan_P
@Mark, my understanding from the previous messages is that it's in
"proposed" at present. Once it's gone through the processes explained
above, it is released to 20.04 main. I.e. we all get the update
normally.

"N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed
by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a
minimum of 7 days."

  [ Impact ]

Mutter 3.36.2 breaks custom input settings

  [ Test case ]

  - Set custom settings using gnome-control-center (set custom Delay and
Speed in Settings > Accessibility > Repeat Keys) or gnome-tweaks (under
Additional Layout options)
  - Unplug / replug the input device or suspend / resume
  - Input device settings should be preserved

  [ Regression potential ]

Devices added or removed may be not noticed by gnome-shell.

  ---

I am running Ubuntu 20.04.1 with Gnome. I am seeing new behavior which
seems to have been introduced within the past couple of weeks. I have
a couple custom keyboard settings configured in Tweaktool "Additional
Layout Options". These settings work great.

I have a USB keyboard plugged into the machine. If I have the keyboard
plugged in when I start my Gnome session, the customized keyboard
layout options are correctly applied to the USB keyboard. If I unplug
and reconnect the keyboard, the keyboard does will _NOT_ have the
  customized keyboard settings.

If I restart my Gnome session (using Alt-F2 -> "r"), the customized
settings are applied to the keyboard.

I think this behavior is something new. Before, I was able to
unplug/reconnect my keyboard and it would apply my customized keyboard
settings on reconnect. Is there anything I can do to force the
application of the custom keyboard tweaks on USB keyboard reconnect?

Is anyone else able to reproduce this? I don't have any other machines
with Ubuntu 20.04.1 to test with.

  Thanks!

  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1281162/tweaktool-keyboard-additional-
  layout-options-not-working)

Adding some additional testing to my above comments.

*When second monitor is not removed*, i.e. remains connected, lock
screen/suspend resume all restore display as expected after latest
updates as suggested by Daniel in above linked dup.

Plugging display out, gnome adjusts to single screen settings as
expected. But plugging back the second monitor in does nothing.
Restarting gnome-shell resets displays as expected. I.e. working.

Also note not working in #26 regarding resuming laptop after plugging in
screen.

For me, the issue is fixed when unlocking the screen.

However NOT when resuming laptop after a suspend.

Laptop, using laptop display only > Suspend > Plugin additional monitor
> Resume. Only laptop screen is active.

Login > Restart Gnome-shell, second screen resumes.

Busy testing and will confirm if it's fully resolved or not.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1328381] [NEW] evolution looses write permission on remote authenticated caldav calendar intermittently

2014-06-09 Thread Brendan_P
Public bug reported:

I have a series of CalDAV calendars on my owncloud install. I access
them via Evolution and mostly it works well. However intermittently
Evolution will loose the abilty to write to these calendars. Perhaps 1-2
times a week. Can't determine a pattern but all seems fine with the
owncloud side as my mobile is able to still write at the same time as
eveolution looses write access.

Killing evolution, evolution-sourc, evolution-calen, evolution-alarm and
then restarting evolution resolves the issue.

I use Ubuntu 11.04 classic. Very often Inkscape freezes at opening, even if
empty. We have the same problem in Ubuntu 10.04. Since I hadn't noticed it up
to recently (1 month or so) it's possible that it is due to a modification in
another package than Inkscape, for instance a library. But Im' not an intensive
user of Inkscape.
Steps to reproduce the problem: choose in the general menu Applications →
Graphics → Inskape Vector Graphics Editor.
What happens: Inkscape is launched but, often clicking any button has no
effect, resizing the window doesn't resize the inside. After a while,
Inkscape's window is greyished and, if I close it, I first get a The window
'New document 1 - Inkscape' is not responding. message. Relaunching Inkscape
never solves the issue. Login out and in sometimes solves it, sometimes not.
What is expected to happen: that Inkscape respond to clicks.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

This affects the entire distribution, on any laptop with a camera. The
default camera app doesn't work well on Ubuntu. Cheese takes up all
most all cpu cycles, and even so the recorded video is choppy. This
reflects poorly on Ubuntu as an OS

  [ Test Case ]

  * Record video with cheese. t
  * Play back in Totem
  * Notice how choppy it is

  [ Regression Potential ]

Low: The patch just adds another profile to gstreamer that makes it a
higher priority process, and then tells cheese to use that profile.
It's just a configuration change. I have tested and the patches have
the intended result, the video is smoother than before.

The side effect is that, on a fully loaded system, other processes
will not be able to get cpu time as effectively. This should not be a
problem because it's assumed that when you're recording the video, you
won't be using other applications on your machine.

  [ Original Report ]

When recording a video with Cheese with a 1280x720 resolution, the
image is blurry whenever there is motion (this might be a webcam
limitation) but after a few seconds there are also massive framedrops.
This results in a jerky video at best, where the audio is at times
completely out of sync with the video.

When scaling back to 640x480 (the next 'best' thing), things are
smoother (at least there are no massive framedrops). But 640x480 is
not widescreen and not even close to HD, making Cheese useless for my
aim of being able to create quick-yet-good-enough-looking headshot
  videos for online use.

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

This affects the entire distribution, on any laptop with a camera. The
default camera app doesn't work well on Ubuntu. Cheese takes up all
most all cpu cycles, and even so the recorded video is choppy. This
reflects poorly on Ubuntu as an OS

  [ Test Case ]

  * Record video with cheese. t
  * Play back in Totem

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 927742] Re: banshee moves to next song then stops playback

Agree Floris, the bug should be fixed not worked around. Just wanted to
save some folks the pain of trying to get it working and hopefully it
helps devs pin point where it's all going wrong too.

Bug description:

Expected: songs should play fine when moving from song to song.

Actual: Sometimes (and not all the time), when banshee moves to the
next song (in Random and Random-Off) the song will not play. The Icon
in the toolbar is in Play mode and a Play Icon shows up in the
list next to the song, but the seconds do not move, and no sounds
play. After a random amount of time, it *sometimes* just starts
playing the song at about the place it would if it hadn't frozen,
other times I have to manually double-click the current song to get it
to start, or start the next song. Pressing the Play/Pause button does
nothing, but double clicking the song will play it. Because these
songs *will* play I don't think it is corrupt songs, especially
considering the same library worked fine with bashsee in 11.10.

There is no output on the terminal (w/ no switches) when this happens.
My library is mostly mp3, but a smattering of FLAC, ogg, and whatever apple
sells mixed in.

Seems to not be related to paused playing state. Leaving the PC while

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 917035] Re: Banshee stops playing on song change to flac/ogg type files, sometime application freezes on song change (any file type)

2012-02-20 Thread Brendan_P
Apologies for the delay in reply.

Moving ~/.config/banshee-1/addin-db-01/ out of banshee-1 directory as
requested had no affect.

Attached log for the following scenario:

- Opened banshee
- Picked a mp3 to start playing
- Queued a ogg file next
- Banshee play hangs on song start, moving song slider starts play.
(Application does not hang, the song just never starts playing)
- At the end of the ogg file the same thing happens with the next song no
matter what format it is. Moving song positions slider starts the play.

Note: mp3/flac files do NOT have this problem, only ogg files.

I'll just leave this off for now. Should this be marked as a duplicate of
the bug you mentioned? Do you have the bug number?

Cheers
Brendan

It sounds like an issue with gapless. There was a similar bug which was
 forwarded upstream recently (bug #927742).

As for the moving of addin-db-001, that was for the error in banshee-
onscreen-error.txt, which appears to be a completely different bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 917035] Re: Banshee stops playing on song change to flac/ogg type files, sometime application freezes on song change (any file type)

2012-02-14 Thread Brendan_P
Ok so some progress:

- Banshee no longer randomly hangs on song change
- Flac mp3 files play with no problems

Confirmed reproducible behaviour:

- Song change TO song in ogg format results in banshee play pausing.
It will not start the song unless I manually move the song progress
slider. The song then plays. It also stops playing after completion of
the ogg file.

@chow I don't think this is a addon issue. But will try your suggestions
and report back tomorrow.

Quick update. With Precise updates as of this AM, the issues I mentioned
seem to be resolved.

Will update tomorrow AM again.

@Chow Did not try your suggestions as what ever was causing this seems
to be corrected. If it re-occurs I will try them and update with my
findings in the AM.

2012-02-11 Thread Brendan_P
Hi Chow,

Just a quick note to add some additional log info. The attached log is
on song change to flac (14:53), the track loads but does not play.
Moving the position slider forward then back to beginning of song start
playback. I exited the application manually.

I'll try your suggestions tomorrow and give some more feedback.

Cheers
Brendan
