[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1811169] Re: Device firmware update does not detect AC power

2019-01-15 Thread Carroarmato0
Maybe a small detail which may have an impact: the laptop has SecureBoot
enabled by default.
During the installation, the Ubuntu installer made me go about setting a
password.

After installing Virtualbox I noticed that I had to do some extra steps
into signing the compiled kernel module.

I have followed the procedures correctly, but afterwards decided to turn
off Secure Boot just to not wanting to deal with the upgrade hassle in
the future.

I don't remember between which boots I disabled SecureBoot and when I
started the firmware update successfully.

I do remember the annoyance of the firmware upgrade processes beeping
every couple of seconds during the long procedure, in an open workspace
environment. Because it's usually a bad idea to terminate a firmware
flash right in the middle I had to run away with my "ticking timebomb".
But I divert, this has nothing to do with actually setting up the
firmware upgrade through Gnome-Software/fwupd.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1811169] Re: Device firmware update does not detect AC power

2019-01-15 Thread Carroarmato0
Sorry for the delay in following up.

Based on the logs I've checked, fwupd has been behaving correctly, no
where in the various boot logs have I seen it crash or output anything
that would look like an issue.

However, I've been seeing many issues from Gnome Software.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1811169] Re: Device firmware update does not detect AC power

2019-01-10 Thread Carroarmato0
After a reboot, clicking on the Update buttons don't complain about
connecting to the AC power.

The options briefly disappear, and then reappear, seemingly as if the
options weren't accepted.

But after another reboot, the bios noticed that there were pending
updates and went on to apply both of them after 2 reboots.

After the whole procedure the updates don't appear anymore in the
Software center, making me believe that it was executed successfully.

I seems that the issue could be closed, unless you would consider this
an interaction bug.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1061826] Re: Unity Dash Is Too Small for Its Exclusivity

2012-10-07 Thread Carroarmato0
I'd like to point out that when you open the Dash, there are Close,
Minimise and Maximise buttons on the top-left part of the screen.
Pressing Maximise makes the Ubuntu Dash use all of the available screen
space, and your choice is then persistent even when you log out and back
in.

Unity Dash Is Too Small for Its Exclusivity

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Once launched, the Unity Dash is completely exclusive (you can't do
any other application task while it is open).

So WHY then, is it not using the entire screen (like GNOME3 Activity
  Menu does)?

If you can't do anything else anyway (while you are using the Unity
dash), why not use all the screen real-estate available, given that
the Unity dash is already very cumbersome for surveying applications
(meaning: just looking through all the applications you have
  installed).

Utilising this extra screen space would result in less scrolling,
because more applications would be displayed at any given time.

I have over 325 applications that (In Unity) are NOT hierarchically
categorised (without cumbersome filter button steps)!

I remember back in Ubuntu 7.04, when I did a screen cast where I showed all
the applications that were in Ubuntu's menus:
  http://www.lonniebest.com/UbuntuInstall

This is what I mean by Surveying the Applications You Have. Unity
Dash is way less friendly to new users than that was (above) in Ubuntu
7.04. But at this point I'm going beyond the scope of this bug report.

Interesting, this bug seems to not always manifest itself.

Will have to figure out in which situations this bug gets triggered.

Is it not a bug because you can't reproduce it? Or because it's a
feature ?

Yes, but I think this is still a bug because when I Right-Click on Open

every time I open the contact list after that.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 986983] Re: Opening Empthay from the Indicator also opens the Preference window

2012-04-22 Thread Carroarmato0
Here is how to reproduce the bug:

1) Make sure Empathy is closed first
2) Start Empathy by clicking on the Messaging Indicator and -- Chat
3) Right-click on Empathy's icon in the Unity Launcher and select Open
Preferences
4) Close Empathy (it will run in the background)
5) Now go to the Messaging Indicator and press Chat again
6) Empathy's contact list window will appear together with the Properties window

This doesn't happen when you don't open the Preferences window by
right-clicking on Open Preferences on Empathy's icon in the Unity Launcher

Title:
Opening Empthay from the Indicator also opens the Preference window

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When clicking on Empathy's icon in from the Indicator, the Preference
window of Empathy opens up as well.

I have right-clicked on Empathy's icon in Unity and selected Open
Preferences before, and since then it keeps happening, although I'm
not sure if it was that that triggered the bug.
