[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1875670] [NEW] Dual displays - dock is shown on the wrong display

2020-04-28 Thread Chris Martin
Public bug reported:

I have 2 displays
primary 30" dell
secondary 20" dell

In settings->screen-displays I have the primary screen set as the 30" Dell
BTW the 20" dell is incorrectly detected as a 18" display

However in settings->apperiance I have to set the put dock on the 20"
Dell to get it to appear on the 30" screen. and vise versa. If I
specify the 30" Dell for the dock, it appears on the 20" dell display

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1875017] Re: primary display size is wrong when 2nd display is rotated

2020-04-28 Thread Chris Martin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1874567 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874567

I have looked at this bug and the other duplicates, there appear to be 2 bugs
here
(1) where the configuration is not persisted
(2) where the config is persisted but the screen size is incorrect (like this
one)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1620806] Re: gedit edit window is transparent when using Ambiance and Radiance themes

2016-11-06 Thread Chris Martin
Just a quick update..
The content of the .xinputrc file was a single line

   run_im xim

I think that this may have something to do with the problem.

.xinputrc is generated by language settings when you change the input type.
in 16.10 when I set the input type to none the new .xinputrc file contains

   run_im none

And the background is still OK in gedit & calc etc

So the problem is the content of the .xinputrc file and not the presence
of the file.

Status in ubuntu-themes package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
In a freshly booted and fully updated Ubuntu 16.10 the edit window of
gedit is transparent using the *Classic* colour scheme. Other colour
schemes seem to work as intended.

The text of loaded files shows against the desktop wallpaper but when
no files are loaded gedit displays its edit window or pane as it
  should do.

To clarify this bug is only apparent when a file is loaded.

I don't know when this started as I don't normally used gedit to edit
files. I haven't found any other application affected by this problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1620806] Re: gedit edit window is transparent when using Ambiance and Radiance themes

2016-11-06 Thread Chris Martin
I had the same problem after the 16.04 -> 16.10 upgrade
I noticed that newly created users did NOT have the problem.
So its was probably a config issue
I resolved it by removing the "~/.xinputrc" file in my home directory. which
is not present in a new users home directory.
This has worked on all system I have upgraded to date

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Mouse cursor is no longer visible after VT-switch for systems with Intel
graphics.

Switching VTs again may cause the cursor to become visible again.
  - Changing to vt1 then back to vt7 (ctrl+alt+f1 then ctrl+alt+f7)

This is often observed in systems that lock the session and return to
the greeter (including at least Xubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, and elementary
  OS).

  [Test Case]
(Requires a lightdm-based screen locking solution)
  1. Start a new session.
  2. Lock your screen.
2a. You are redirected to the lightdm greeter.
  3. Login/Unlock your session.
  4. Cursor is no longer visible.

  [Regression Potential]
  remains to be seen

  ===

  [Original Report]
Cursor is visible at unlock screen either after returning from suspend or
just locking.

After unlocking screen cursor is invisible.

Changing to vt1 then back to vt7 (ctrl+alt+f1 then ctrl+alt+f7) cursor
  returns

no matter if you suspend or sleep, to swap or disk when you return
from it, the mouse cursor is missing.you can still move the mouse
and you can see (because it highlights the window) as you move it
around. But the cursor is not displayed on the screen.

i am using a lenovo W540 laptop. I downloaded the latest beta on
  april 8 2016.

this is xubuntu using the xfce window manager.

the cursor does return if i log off and log back in, but that actually
defeats the purpose of going to sleep.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1245097] Re: "Internal data flow error" playing dvds

2014-01-17 Thread Chris Martin
I found that I had to also install liborc-0.4.0 (dependancy) as well as
gstreamer1.0-plugings-ugly from Trusty for amd64.
This also solve the problem for me. Thanks KarlRenton

Status in “totem” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Since upgrading to saucy salamander, with totem 3.8.2-0ubuntu1, I have
errors playing DVDs. They start playing, but after a little while, I
get the "Internal data flow error" and playback stops. This didn't
  happen before upgrading ubuntu.

The dvds are actually iso files created with ddrescue, but I don't
expect that would change things. The same files play without problem
  in mplayer.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 983583] Re: NM indicator does not show VPN submenu or Wireless Networks on login

2013-10-09 Thread Chris Martin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 965895 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/965895

Recently my ATI graphics card failed. I was forced to use the internal Intel
graphics controller. NM then started working correctly.
I replaced the card with and Nvidia card, and NM is again messing up.

I have also been experiencing this identical issue on 13.04 for several months.
In my case the problem exists at startup, even after a clean boot.
Both killing and restarting, and disable/enable networking, resolve the issue
until the next reboot
