Default paragraph style should be "Text body"

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Summary: when creating a new Writer document, the first paragraph has
the style "Default Paragraph Style", which leads to surprising
  behaviour.

This bug has been reported in upstream [1], but at least some devs

Thanks Miklos!
Any code hints? Possibly easyHack?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1990673]

2022-10-01 Thread Cno

> In any case, even after 10 years, I still think that for a new document, the

I've just again read all comments in this bug.
- There is no technical reason given: nothing will break.
- It will improve the use of text documents.
So from there: let's do it.

However, I think some caution is needed: I remember once have seen an issue
where some default style/setting (in Calc, Writer..?) did have influence on
some import activities.
- Hence adding Miklos and Michael in CC to ask: do you expect any issue around
this?

Isn't that misleading, reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Metafile ?
It is basically a vector format, designed for Windows, Windows EMF, that allows
for using the Windows GDI, Graphical Device Interface?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574347] Re: [SRU] Re-read the link type if the name changed

2016-08-02 Thread Cno
FYI: From what I experienced, there is a complex of (probably related) problems.
NB: I'm applying Ubuntu updates continuously.

Somewhere a year ago, I started experiencing a problem when moving in my house,
when apparently another access/antenna of the router was picked. Suspend/wake
up was not necessary to have that problem: wifi crashed and no relief of
networkmanager restart.
The problem in also showed when I was using my smartphone as hotspot.
In other locations, it happened rather seldom.

Now some time after the 16.04 the problem changed: the provious bug
disappeared; the bug described here poped up. Which is less annoying,
since there are work arounds.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
NM needs to re-read the DEVTYPE after the device name changed, an example is
that WiFi network list disappears from network manager applet

  [Testcase]
  1. Boot the system. It should include a wireless device.
  2. In a terminal, run 'nmcli dev'.
  3. In the correct case, the line for the wireless device should read "wifi"
under the TYPE column. In a failure case, it will read "ethernet".

After upgrading to the new version, the repeating the above steps
  should give expected behavior.

  [Regression Potential]
Potential of causing regression is relatively small for a one line change to
re-read a value to be known.

  ---

  Problems:-

  1. The network manager applet does not show the list of WiFI APs it can find.
  2. The network manager applet does not the name of the AP to which it is
connected
  3. The icon of the applet shows two vertical arrows in opposite direction -
the wired connection symbol and NOT the wifi connected icon.

  Temporary Workaround:-
Log out and again log back in.

Hi Seakha,

Sorry to read that you have problems with this. And thanks for checking
and reporting.

Now looking at the original report:

(In reply to Regina Henschel from comment #0)

This simply works for me in 5.0.5.2 on Ubuntu (thus didn't bother to check
other versions.)
Therefor I expect your problem to be a (bit) different. Could you please open a
new issue with clear description of the steps and test document as attachment?

(And even if the same problem would have occurred, there would have been
another underlying problem probably, thus also then a new issue is the
way to go :) )

Closing again..

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1325931]

2016-02-09 Thread Cno

Is this related to "Use only paper size from printer preferences"
checkbox on the File > Print .. Options tab. ??

See bug 61186
and https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.1#Other

(Then we could close as duplicate of bug 67576
and note that bug 94343 is about improving the position)

Title:
Can't select non-standard paper sizes for Printing

Status in LibreOffice:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Problem description:
I was trying to print a small compliments slip on a card that was 140mm x
100mm.

I set the page size under Format -> Page -> Size to user defined, and
then entered the width of 14.00cm and height of 10.00cm correctly.

However, when I came to try to print it, it would not print correctly.
The print dialog box showed the dimensions of A6 (140mm x 105mm) and I
couldn't find any way to change this. I tried to print it anyway, but
  it came out wrong.

To prove that the problem is in LibreOffice and probably not related
to the driver, I exported the file to a PDF, and was able to print it
by setting up a Custom Paper size in the printer settings dialog - an
option which LibreOffice doesn't seem to have.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create a new Document
  2. From the menu, do Format -> Page
  3. From the Format dropdown, select User
  4. Enter a size that is not a standard paper size
  5. Click OK
  6. Attempt to print the document

  Current behavior:
No matter what combinations of options I tried, I was unable to change the
Printer paper size to the correct size.
If I go ahead and click Print, the output is wrong (output not aligned
correctly on the page).

  Expected behavior:
Paper size could be set by the selected Page size, or provide some way to
change the printer paper size.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 891522]

2015-01-10 Thread Cno
(In reply to Hans-Peter Oeri from comment #6)
The added text seems to be the control's 'label' text. Emptying all 'label'
 properties, seems a good workaround.

That was what I meant to say with my comment #3. Sorry if that was not
clear ;)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1025839]

2013-11-08 Thread Cno
To me this means that I need to give multiple print command when doing more
copies. Depending on selection/direction or such.
Luckily I do not print much :)

@david: still interested to take a look?

This is set as enhancement. But since 3.3 worked fine, this is a simple
bug?

Title:
Printing multiple copies submits multiple separate jobs (should submit
  one job)

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  In Progress
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
In the print dialog, if Number of Copies is set to 50 then 50
separate, independent print jobs are spooled. It should submit a
single print job, specifying 50 copies. This will allow the printer
to do the replication if it can (all Postscript printers can).

  This is important because:

1) Submitting a separate jobs for each copy causes the page(s) to be
rendered again and again,
with a drastic reduction in through-put.

This is CRUCIAL if the pages contain complex graphics or images which
take a long time to render
or transmit to the printer: A one-minute delay for the first of 50
copies is okay, but 1 minute for
*each* of 50 copies is intolerable.

2) If the print job was a mistake, it is virtually impossible to stop the
printer. Pressing the cancel
button on the printer cancels just one copy, but after a little while
the next one starts printing...

3) It is very inconvenient to cancel the job in CUPS, with 50 separate
jobs, without affecting other
unrelated jobs in the queue (you can cancel all jobs in the queue at
once, or one at a time).

Note that CUPS has always supported a number of copies option at the
command-line level.
  For example
 lpr '-#50' file.pdf
prints 50 copies of the file, rendering it once only.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 641175]

2013-09-12 Thread Cno
Did some testing in 4.1.1.2:

One slide
One master slide
Change width of both text boxes is master slide.
Back to normal view.
changes not visible.

Create new masters slide also with different width for text boxes
Back to normal view.
Apply MasterPage2
changes not visible

However ... the changes do show in the preview of the master slides...

Now add a slide
has MasterPage2 applied
Apply first master page
Only one of the text boxes is changed

Now add third slide
both master pages can be applied there and show all changes

The funny thing is, that for the first and second slide the behaviour is
still the same, as described above :D

2012-11-15 Thread Cno
In 3.5.7 rc1 or 3.6.2.2 use \n\n in the replace field.
That works for me.
Can you pls check that?
(I remeber in the late OOo times there was a change in this, but can't find the
details now).

I intend to close this one soon

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 465309]

2012-10-08 Thread Cno
Hi Jim,

OK, sorry thanks for explanantion. (In the mena time I understood that the
same applies for $, that cannot be used on itself to find the end of a
paragraph).
Did it ever work as is expected, or is it something that has to be implemented..
In that case, this would be an enhancement...

Currently when a picture is imported, it is impossible to rotate it.
This makes the task of importing images/graphs into OpenOffice

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 949997]

2012-04-17 Thread Cno
(In reply to comment #10)
Another (easy) way to reproduce :

 4. Edit Undo (or Ctrl+Z)

 Actual result : apparently nothing
 Expected result : undo insert

 5. Enter = Crash

Not reproduced with Ubuntu 11.04 avec LibO 3.3.x

I cannot reproduce this with 3.5.2 and master from 2012-04-10 on Ununtu 11:04.
However, I sometimes have strange crashes, so can immagine that the sequence of
the original bug report does lead to a crash

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 779366]

2012-04-15 Thread Cno
@v...@ukr.net vladimir,

(In reply to comment #5)
Can you confirm that turning off use-hardware-acceleration fixes this ? :-)
Sample document cf. bug#46901 shows this clearly:
 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=57920

It is caused by the cairo canvas: in a nutshell :-) should be Linux only in
3.5.2. Thanks for the nice clean report.

Can you please look at it? Thanks,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 157249]

2012-04-10 Thread Cno
Hi Alex,

(In reply to comment #51)

I still have this problem in 3.5.1 on Mac OSX. It seems like the problem is
 present for others too :

 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47832

where it was tested on 3.5.2 RC1. Consequently, I'm re-opening.

That bug says specifically 'Buttons on forms' thus is far more specific
then this bug. So I doubt if one could see it as a duplicate. Maybe a
related corner case?

Anyway, I'm testing 3.5.2 now with the steps I used previously to
reproduce that bug ...

Bug description:
I have opened an existing file for the first time in Gutsy with OOo
2.3. After some modifications brought to this file, I noticed some
images had disappeared, but not all images, and an error message was
displayed in a frame of the size of the disappeared image indicating a
read error. Then, I don't saved it to keep my file in its last
correct state, and I made a copy of this file and opened it in
parallel. And at this time the images reappeared in my first modified
file. So, I saved it and closed. After reopening, all images which
had disappeared were not present (not an empty frame, but totally
  removed this time).

After, I opened a new copy of my file and I insert a space and remove it in
order to have save button enabled and my file not modified, and then I saved
it. I wondered why the size increased from 155566 bytes to 159378 with
exactly the same content, maybe a new version of ODF used in OOo 2.3 as this
file was created with OOo 2.0 and last modified on 2.1??? I have redone the
same modifications and this time there was no problem.
I noticed that when I had finished to redo the same modifications, automatic
saving was triggered, that I didn't see the first time. I say that as this is
may be linked to this problem, and the images in the first time disappeared
after a duration of the same order, but this is only an hypothesis and I'm not
sure at all of that (I will try to made some new tests).

I condider this as critical as it leads to a content loss.

Hi Hans-Peter,
I've seen this before, I think.

I think I solved it by removing the default names of the elements, or narrowing

I suppose there is a difference in that 'postscript' does not really
contain a checkbox but its visual representation and 'pdf' does
  actually contain a checkbox?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 734424]

2012-01-18 Thread Cno
(In reply to comment #19)

The delay is caused by a slow connection to the file that is
externally linked.

Is it clear what causes that delay? If it is just the connection, then
this one should be closed as notabug IMO

Title:
[Upstream] LibreOffice hangs for 30+ seconds when connected to the
  Internet

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Confirmed
Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: libreoffice

LibreOffice: long load time when connected to the internet. Loading
  bar hangs at earliest stage.

WORKAROUND: add 127.0.0.1 hostname localhost hostname.(none)
  (without quotes) to /etc/hosts.

The issue is that ever since OpenOffice 3.2.1 (NOT 3.2.0), the
application attempts to use a hacky protocol to connect to the
internet instead of the host's machine for some reason at an early
stage during its load. Equally strange is that it only rears its head
in kubuntu, as far as I know.

Problem existed since Kubuntu 10.04 including latest up-to-date 11.04,
all architectures, OpenOffice versions 3.2.1 through LibreOffice
3.3.1. When offline, the problem does not appear at all. Multiple
resolutions, systems, graphics cards, architectures, packages tested,
  all with same result.

It is unlikely that the software transmits enough information to any
resolvable location on the internet to comprise a security breach, but
the possibility of erroneously transmitting user information across
the internet instead of the local machine may comprise a risk of some
sort. Also, recall that Oracle took over OpenOffice at the first
version that exhibits this strange, crippling showstopper, so cause
for alarm (paranoia) may be warranted, though it is highly unlikely.
