[Desktop-packages] [Bug 836250] Re: [Oneiric] [Regression] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops
As you can see from the above... using wicd on oneiric provides a stable connection even with N enabled. However also note from the spreadsheet that the rate is limited to G speeds even when using wicd on Oneiric, something that does not happen when using Network Manager on Oneiric. I'm about to use Oneiric Network Manager on Natty, but there's such a huge swathe of dependancies, I'll need to re-install the machine after testing as it'll be a hideous Frankenstein's monster of a build. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/836250 Title: [Oneiric] [Regression] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops Status in The Linux Kernel: In Progress Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Oneiric: Triaged Status in “network-manager” source package in Oneiric: Invalid Status in “linux” source package in Precise: Triaged Status in “network-manager” source package in Precise: Invalid Bug description: This may be either network-manager or kernel, depending on triage... I have verified this on both a Lenovo X201 and a Lenovo T500 laptop. Both work perfectly with fully updated 10.10 and 11.04 versions of Ubuntu. However, booting into a fully updated 11.10 (as of 28/08/11) I get very poor wireless networking performance. Between 6-10% packet loss, very very slow connection and transfer rate. All in all, practically unusable. I have reported the bug on the X201 laptop, I will add the similar logs from the T500 also if required. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 872207] Re: When Firefox is running in Unity, drop-down menus sometime close when opened
I should also add I tend to ctrl+alt+arrowkey to switch between workspaces because I run firefox on workspace1 and tbird on workspace2, irc on workspace3 and then other random stuff on workspace4. I used to run everything maximised, but because of this bug I'm currently running nothing maximised. It does seem to lessen the issue... but it still happens a lot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872207 Title: When Firefox is running in Unity, drop-down menus sometime close when opened Status in Compiz: Confirmed Status in Unity Distro Priority: New Status in “compiz” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is something which used to happen regularly though not always (I switched to using fallback mode for a while because of it). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 872207] Re: When Firefox is running in Unity, drop-down menus sometime close when opened
Interesting... I tend to use the unity sidebar to switch between applications, or occasionally alt-tab rather than expo. I do get the problems when Firefox is *not* maximised, but they happen far more often when firefox *is* maximised. I must admit I'd forgotten about this bug recently since I switched back to unity2d because it was so irritating, but I'm back in unity3d for a while to see if I can find out what's going on. This is also seriously affecting 11.10 on unity3d. Other workarounds I've noticed is un-maximising firefox and re- maximising it. That seems to get things working for a while longer. It eventually has the same problems again though. As soon as I swap back to either 10.10 or 11.04 I get perfect wireless, it's only on 11.10 that I get problems, this would suggest it's not hardware or configuration on my side. I have had this since first installing 11.10 which was a little after Alpha 2. Wired connection is fine. I agree, for me it's "mostly" when the system has been running for a while, so I've seen it 2-3 times first thing in the morning when the system has been left running overnight. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 828623] Re: gnome control centre does not allow you to disable the laptop screen while leaving an external connected screen working
I've just done some further testing. The behaviour varies depending on whether I use the displayport or vga connections. Laptop Panel + VGA = With both on, the picture is perfect and I can move windows from one to the other. NO Laptop Panel, Just VGA = I am able to disable the onboard laptop screen and just have the external monitor, however the external display is corrupted. Displayport connectivity behaves as described previously mentioned, i.e. still completely blank when attempting to disable laptop screen, but fine if both are allowed to display. I have also verified that the same behaviour is exhibited under Fedora 16 Alpha LiveCD. Will raise upstream and Fedora Bugs. ** Also affects: gnome-control-center (Fedora) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/828623 Title: gnome control centre does not allow you to disable the laptop screen while leaving an external connected screen working Status in GNOME Control Center: New Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Fedora: New Bug description: Lenovo T500 with displayport has a 1920x1200 monitor attached, I use the displayport in a similar way to a docking station in that I attach the monitor with a displayport to dvi cable, and then expect to be able to switch off the laptops internal display, only leaving the external monitor working. As soon as I swap back to either 10.10 or 11.04 I get perfect wireless, it's only on 11.10 that I get problems, this would suggest it's not hardware or configuration on my side. I have had this since first installing 11.10 which was a little after Alpha 2. Wired connection is fine.
