Title:
firefox fullscreen display glitches with hidpi scalingb

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When I go on fullscreen on a video on Firefox with HIDPI scaling
factors more than 100%, I get odd behavior of the fullscreen video.
This behavior is not seen on Chrome, or if the scaling factor is 100%.

Basically, it seems like there is some resizing of the video to a
smaller window in the upper left, and when I escape fullscreen,
sometimes the firefox window itself is scaled off the display.

At times, this glitches a few times and eventually resets, sometimes,
it stays this way. It appears to have changed behavior multiple times
over the past few weeks of updates of various parts of the stack, and
may just be narrowed down for me now to something repeatable. For
instance sometimes I could not trigger it until I pressed volume up or
volume down. Now it appears to happen just waiting for a few seconds
  on the running video.

This is on X11, and on focal with the latest updates as of today
  2020-04-01.

Happy to debug more, not sure what information is useful.

  thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1870259] [NEW] firefox fullscreen display glitches with hidpi scalingb

2020-04-01 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

When I go on fullscreen on a video on Firefox with HIDPI scaling factors
more than 100%, I get odd behavior of the fullscreen video. This
behavior is not seen on Chrome, or if the scaling factor is 100%.

Basically, it seems like there is some resizing of the video to a
smaller window in the upper left, and when I escape fullscreen,
sometimes the firefox window itself is scaled off the display.

At times, this glitches a few times and eventually resets, sometimes, it
stays this way. It appears to have changed behavior multiple times over
the past few weeks of updates of various parts of the stack, and may
just be narrowed down for me now to something repeatable. For instance
sometimes I could not trigger it until I pressed volume up or volume
down. Now it appears to happen just waiting for a few seconds on the
running video.

This is on X11, and on focal with the latest updates as of today
2020-04-01.

Happy to debug more, not sure what information is useful.

thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1747566] Re: org.gnome.Shell.desktop stacktraces; tweener.js:73

2018-02-11 Thread David Britton
Just to add a possible cause for concern. This is creating about 100G
of syslog per day on my bionic system that is just mostly idling.

Title:
control-center display panel cannot move monitors

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Running wayland, gnome-shell, 17.10, up-to-date.

I have two monitors plugged into my computer, a couple days ago,
everything was fine. Now, after a couple of crashes, and package
upgrades, I can no longer re-arrange my monitors on the control center
interface. When I mouse over a monitor, the cursor changes into a
grabby-hand, but when I click and drag, the monitors just stay where
they are. No movement at all.

Things I've tried so far --

  - removing .config/monitors.xml and rebooting
  - disabling & re-enabling monitors

I'm happy to do some debugging on this, but my searches and
troubleshooting so far is coming up empty.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1725559] [NEW] 17.10 - multi-monitor screen positions are not saved

2017-10-20 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

wayland, gnome-shell, 17.10, up-to-date system.

It seems my monitors.xml is not consulted on gdm launch/session launch,
either wayland or X. I have two monitors, and I want to place one on
the right and one on the left. This isn't working, I just get the
default sort, which, of course is wrong.

I've attached standard apport-collect information, I'm willing to debug
more, but it's just plain not working for me right now.

Title:
control-center display panel cannot move monitors

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1722588] Re: crash on suspend

2017-10-10 Thread David Britton
FYI -- using apt-btrfs-snapshot reverts, I have nailed this down to an
update from:

gnome-shell 3.26.0 to 3.26.1

If I revert the package, the crash on suspend stops.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1455223] Re: [time and date] Searching for locations is slow and doesn't work offline

2015-07-24 Thread David Britton
(not directly related to bug, but a workaround since the indicator is a
bit buggy in vivid, and this bug seems to represent the problem well)

Thought others may be interested in this script:

#!/usr/bin/python3
import subprocess
import json

tz = [
"America/Los_Angeles Los Angeles",
"America/Denver Denver",
"America/Sao_Paulo São_Paulo",
"UTC UTC",
"Europe/London London",
"Asia/Kolkata India"
]

subprocess.check_call(
["gsettings", "set",
 "com.canonical.indicator.datetime",
 "locations", json.dumps(tz)])

Simply customize, run and it should fix up timezones for you.

Title:
[time and date] Searching for locations is slow and doesn't work
  offline

Status in libtimezonemap package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Click on clock -> Time and Date settings -> Clock -> Choose Locations
-> Click the + -> Start typing "San Franc"

When I'm at home, on a 300mbps connections, it takes several seconds
to several minutes, when trying to add a new location.

When I'm on a plane without internet connectivity, (ie, exactly when I
most importantly need to change the time on my laptop to the new/next
timezone), it doesn't work at all.

Can we please, please, please move this timezone/location information
  to a locally cached database?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1058218] [NEW] do-release-upgrade (lucid->precise) leaves postgres (8.4 & 9.1) in bad state.

2012-09-28 Thread David Britton
Public bug reported:

I'm seeing a bug in both 8.4 and 9.1 after upgrading through do-release-
upgrade from lucid to precise.

Steps to Repro:

1) Install either 9.1 from pitti's repo, or use 8.4 in lucide
2) run do-release-upgrade
3) Skip the reboot
4) run the following

root@ubuntu:~# sudo -u postgres psql -l
could not change directory to "/root"
psql: FATAL: database locale is incompatible with operating system
DETAIL: The database was initialized with LC_COLLATE "en_US.UTF-8", which is
not recognized by setlocale().
HINT: Recreate the database with another locale or install the missing locale.
root@ubuntu:~#

5) After restarting postgresql (or postgresql-8.4 if that is what you
are working with), everything is fine.

This causes problems for packages that use the database, as their
postinst will typically fail restarting the service.

** Affects: postgresql-9.1 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
