Bug description:
There are lenses (e.g.: Social Lens and Photo Lens) that on a first
install don't provide any content, even after a search is performed.
The user should be aware that performing a search is vain so that no
effort is wasted. The user should also be educated on how to add
content to the lens, especially if depends on something which requires
manual actions. In the case of the Social Lens, for instance, the user
should be informed that to populate the lens it is necessary to have
at least a compatible Online Account enabled.

  -
  Desired solution:

  - Both the Photo and Gwibber Lens should not appear in the Dash bottom
nav bar unless they have content to display.

  - Note in this case discovery of the Gwibber Lens will be handled by
'Ubuntu Online Accounts'. After a user has enabled their first social
network using Online Accounts the Gwibber Lens should appear.

  - Note in the case of the Photo Lens, this Lens should only appear
when there are either local images stored on the computer that are
accessible by this lens, or when the user has enabled their first
online photo service using the 'Ubuntu Online Accounts' service.

This is one of the most reported error on errors.ubuntu.com, probably related

the error and avoid a lens crash by disabling the failing scope.

No clear test case to trigger this failure.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1059440] [NEW] indicator-messages panel icons are blurry at 26px width

2012-10-01 Thread David Callé
Public bug reported:

All the status/22/indicator-messages-* icons have a 26px width, causing them to
look blurry in the panel:
http://cloudfront.omgubuntu.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Screen-Shot-2012-09-19-at-10.34.18.png

Bug description:
We will add an option in the Privacy panel of System Settings.

This on/off switch enables to remove all internet connexion in any
lens you have installed supporting the option (which are all lenses in
  the ubuntu repository).

All lenses components and libunity are impacted by the change, as well
as gnome-control-center. A couple of new strings will be added to the
  latest for the option.

see on comment #27 the screenshot of the privacy settings dash panel. This
one is in gnome-control-center (but the source is activity-log-manager for it).
  The additional strings are:

  #: ../src/activity-log-manager.vala:57
  msgid Search Results
  msgstr

  #: ../src/searchresults-widget.vala:60
  #, c-format
msgid When searching in the Dash:
  msgstr

  #: ../src/searchresults-widget.vala:67
  #, c-format
  msgid Include online search results.
  msgstr

The fact that this lens is installed by default means that users are
shown commercial content as search results by default in the home
screen, and that search queries are sent to an external (to the user)
server. It's reasonable that one might want to turn this behaviour
off. While it is possible to uninstall the package, this isn't a
  particularly intuitive route for most.

Other lenses have a 'Filter results' item, which would solve this if
on the home screen. Otherwise, an option somewhere in the control
  centre (privacy?) would be good.

Bug description:
The online accounts UI loads the plugins integration from some
.application files. Those are not translated, not translatable.

What needs to be done, is:
  - rename the .application in .application.in
  - ensuring that upstream have an application.in files with translatable tags
(using _, as in _descriptionI want to be translated/_description). Example
[1]
  - add a translations tag containing the upstream domain
  - then, at build time:

  1. Running intltool-extract files.applications.in so that it gets
merged into a files.applications.in.h file. If you are using intltool
already in your build system (and you probably are), this should be
happening already and you can skip to step 2.

  2. Including the .in file somewhere in the build system (like
po/POTFILES.in for Python apps and Makefiles.am for C/vala apps) so
that it's merged into the .pot file. In Python, it's just a matter of
adding it as an extra line to the po/POTFILES.in file (example [2]):

  [gettext/xml]data/gwibber.application.in

  3. And running intltool-merge --no-translations -x -u foo.applications.in
foo.application to create the xml upstream file which is shipped
  - online-account (the g-c-c plugin) should be patched to load them, looking
at the translations tag and gettext (package, string)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1046319] [NEW] glib 2.33.12 crashes libgdata

2012-09-05 Thread David Callé
Public bug reported:

With the new glib version, libgdata crashes when used from python.

It consequently triggers crashes, notably in unity-scope-gdocs and
unity-lens-photos.

Shotwell export to Picasa and Gnome-Documents Google Docs search are not
working either, but the relation with this bug needs to be confirmed.

Testcase:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 971473] Re: Unity video lens not showing online sources

2012-04-07 Thread David Callé
The server the lens was querying has suffered from some severe downtime
recently, it could be related to it. From today, it's using the
production server. I'm marking the bug as incomplete as it could still
be related to your network configuration.

Bug description:
When using the unity video lens, online video sources are not
available, only My Videos or Mina Videor as I have the Swedish
language pack installed. I was expecting something like what is shown
in this video around 00:35 :

  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMoYutiUQYU

Maybe this isn't a default feature, but I have seen it in all the
preview videos I have seen so far and no description on how to enable
it, so that's why I'm assuming the online sources for the video lenses
  should be present by default.

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 with all the recent updates as of this
  writing.

Using Lenses causes system freeze after upgrading to 12.04 from 11.10

Status in “unity-lens-applications” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I upgraded my 11.10 machine to 12.04 a couple of days ago and have
noticed that when ever I try and uses any of the lenses for searches
it appears to cause the system to freeze shortly after. After running
a top I noticed that at the time of the freeze these are loads of gst-
plugin-scan processes spawned. The machine indicates it is about to
become unresponsive as the mouse becomed juddery just before it stops
reposning to input. I also notice the disk indicator light becomign
highly active which suggests it is hammering the swap space.

See the attached screenshot to see a top output at the time of the
freeze. I can replicate the isseu every time. I'm now going to leave
it in this state to see if the kernel OOM process will kick in and
bring the machine back to life.

Please elt me know if you require any more debug info or want me to
  try anything.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 855402] Re: Python lenses segfault with pygobject3

2011-10-25 Thread David Callé
I've been using the patch for a few weeks now, without noticing any regressions.
I'm now testing the new package on two machines : everything seems fine and
this bug is fixed.
