[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2041722] [NEW] Duplex printing error on Brother MFC-J825DW

2023-10-28 Thread David Tombs
Public bug reported:

Using the default "implicitclass" printer setup by Ubuntu, trying to do
Duplex printing does not function properly. E.g., printing a four page
document will result in the printer printing pages 4, 3, 2, and 1 in
that order on four separate sheets of paper. Note that pages 3 and 1
print upside-down.

As in bug #2041721, manually adding the printer using "dnssd" and using
that one resolves the issue. I am opening a separate bug in case this is
a different root cause, though.

And here's the output from

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:

Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite:

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Status in openoffice.org package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

If scrolling a document and using the autosave feature, the document
will roll back to the cursor position in the document instead of
staying where you currently are on the screen.

I am scrolling my document but may have edited or place my cursor
somewhere else in the document. Autosave saves the document and
immediately scrolls back to the cursor.

This bug is rather annoying if you are editing a multipage document
and scrolled several 10's of pages forward only to have the
application place you back to my cursor which may possibly be on page
  1. I have on many occasions lost my place only to find it again and
have autosave throw me back to the cursor.

Workaround is to turn off autosave, but that runs a risk of losing
possibly many hours of work if the application crashes or other
  reasons like a power failure.

Title:
Opening Popupmenu in Context of Folder with List-View impossible?

Status in Nautilus:
  Fix Released
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

  Situation:

I've got installed the package which provides an open-terminal here
  functionality for folders.

If Symbol-View is choosen, I can right-click into the empty space
between the symbols to open the context menu for that current folder.
There it is also possible to create a new folder.

  Problem:

I use the List-View most of the time. Using that, I cannot find any
empty space to right-click on for opening the desired popup menu for
the current folder. All I can get is the file-based popupmenu.

  Solution:

Workaround: The menu per-folder is accessible via the File-Menu.

Better solutions: Make the Popupmenu for the current folder accessible
in a better way. Perhaps you can merge it with the File-Menu. Or make
it available when clicking on folders in the treeview.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 248870] Re: [Upstream] Autosave causes document to scroll back to cursor position

2013-07-14 Thread David Tombs
The upstream bug (41063) is still reproducible for me using
1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu4.

Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu:

Workaround is to turn off autosave, but that runs a risk of losing
possibly many hours of work if the application crashes or other
  reasons like a power failure.

dv1550se: upower never registers lid-open event though ACPI does

Status in “upower” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

  ** Bug Description **
When I unplug the AC power from my laptop, the screen dims, and then 2-4
seconds thereafter, a lid-close event is registered and my screen either goes
blank or the laptop suspends, depending on my power settings for closing the
laptop lid.

Note that upower shows lid closed while ACPI (correctly) shows lid
  open when this happens.

  ** What's Expected **
A lid-close event shouldn't be registered unless the lid is actually closed.

Title:
seek bar issues when playing m4a

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Play A State of Trance podcast m4a file. Notice that seek bar indicates
that we are a few minutes into the song but it's actually playing the beginning.
  2. Try to seek halfway through the song. Audio that starts playing is from
halfway through the song but the seek bar jumps further in the song.
  3. Press pause. Rhythmbox pauses.
  4. Press play. Rhythmbox doesn't play.

Even though the song I'm playing is from a podcast it's not specific
to the podcast area of rhythmbox. I can reproduce the issue when
copying the file to my normal library. See attached screenshot.

It does seem to be related to specific types of m4a files, though. I
have others that don't reproduce the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 561656] Re: dv1550se: upower never registers lid-open event though ACPI does

2012-09-28 Thread David Tombs
Hmm, interesting. Based on my Googling it's probably a kernel bug then.
Since this bug is old and has been through a lot, please run 'ubuntu-bug
linux' to report a new bug against the kernel and mention that
/proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state is always correct, but upower --dump is
not and acpi_listen does not print lid open events. And mention this bug
in there and that bug in here. Thanks! Hopefully this will lead us to a
solution.

When I unplug the AC power from my laptop, the screen dims, and then 2-4

2012-09-24 Thread David Tombs
Oops, sorry for letting this expire. I was going to report this to
upstream upower when I came across this bug report:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32230

Would you mind trying to use acpi_listen[1] to see if it detects the lid
open event as well as the lid closed? Thanks, and sorry again for the
delay.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: upower

upower reports enormous energy-rate for first time after cord is unplugged.
GPM reacts on this first event not checking subsequent events.

This bug is started because I found no ways to collect data for bug #473552.
  I have no devkit-power package.

  === EFFECTS ===

This is the underlying cause to gnome-power-manager immediately
reporting critical battery after unplug even while charge is good. It
is not a gnome-power-manager problem, the root is here in upower.
Please do not report bugs against gnome-power-manager for this!

  To workaround the effects execute:

  gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/gnome-power-
  manager/general/use_time_for_policy false

Title:
gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor prevents Sansa e250 player from auto-
  mounting

Status in GVFS:
  New
Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gvfs

When I plug in my Sansa e250 audio device it does not auto-mount.
After unplugging and plugging it in multiple times I got a crash
report from gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor, after which the auto-mount
worked. I haven't been able to reproduce this crash since. Now I am
consistently able to get the device to auto-mount by doing killall
gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor before plugging it in, but nothing at all
happens when I plug it in with gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor running.

Auto mount was working in Hardy, was not working in Intrepid, and now
  is not working in Jaunty.

What I expected to happen: Sansa player auto-mounts as USB mass storage
device when plugged in.
What happened instead: Nothing happened when I plugged in the audio player.

Hi Richard, thanks for the notice on that commit. You would say this is
an issue with upower then?

  Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn

Hardware is HP Pavilion DV1000 series (specific DV1588EA)

Battery monitor when running on battery reports percentage of battery
remaining correctly, but the corresponding remaining time is often
fabulously wrong (and can swing between e.g a few minutes to tens of
hours in the blink of an eye). /* What I wouldn't give for batteries
that can last 14 hours between charges... */

It looks for all the world like the underlying values are being held
in storage classes which are too small or where value-wrapping is not
  being handled quite right...

BTW UBUNTU is fantastic; I'm a convert! Keep up the good work!

Libre Office Calc Horizontal Slide Bar

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I just upgraded to Kubuntu 11.10 and its beautiful. Thanks heaps.

Maybe you know already but there is just one small problem with
  Libre Office Calc.

The slide bar along the bottom is partially covered by the
spreadsheet and doesn't work. This makes horizontal navigation
  difficult.

Not sure if its to do with my screen size which is the old 15.4.
I am using an Acer TravelMate 6410.

This problem was not evident in Kubuntu 11.04 or any earlier
  versions of Open Office Calc.

  best regards

  Rus Watson
