[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer does not support HD2000-4000 legacy cards

2012-09-29 Thread Dirk Heinrichs
Once again we're trapped by proprietary drivers. I just bought the
mainboard containing this Radeon HD 3000 GPU beginning of this year.
I've already tried to avoid Nvidia, hoping things will be better with
AMD/ATI. Too sad I was wrong. Next time, the winner will surely be
Intel.

Title:
fglrx-installer does not support HD2000-4000 legacy cards

Status in “fglrx-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Following the AMD decision to drop support for older hardware fglrx-
installer will install non-working drivers for some users.

I suggest the addition of an fglrx-legacy package to install the AMD
legacy drivers for users with older cards.

fglrx-updates broken dependency with xorg-video-abi-12 (Quantal)

Status in “fglrx-installer-updates” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
fglrx needs updated in quantal for the xserver 1.13 API.

  [Workaround]
  Use the FOSS -ati driver.

  [Original Report]
I run updates today on my quantal box.

I have a ATI Madison [Radeon HD 5000M Series] and the updates removes
  the xserver-xorg-video-radeon and xserver-xorg-video-ati

When I restart, all xserver is broken because /usr/bin/X cannot be
found. I even don't have vesa or fbdev for start with startx
  command.

I install with recovery mode xserver-xorg-video-vesa and xserver-xorg-
video-fbdev and now I have a crappy 1024 resolution and no second
  monitor support.

If I install the packages xserver-xorg-video-radeon and xserver-xorg-
video-ati I still have the same problem.

So I try to install fglrx-updates, and it conflicts with a dependency
of a virtual package that it is not provided anymore

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 884628] Re: Cannot login using SIPE, working in pidgin though

2012-01-27 Thread Dirk Heinrichs
I see the same problem in telepathy-kde from the Telepathy KDE PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~telepathy-kde/+archive/ppa). SIPE/Office
Communicator protocol works fine in Pidgin, but Telepathy is unable to
connect with the same connection data.

So it seems the problem is not in empathy, but somewhere in the
underlying telepathy framework.

Cannot login using SIPE, working in pidgin though

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm using pidgin, but want to switch to empathy. Every single chat account
with the exception of my SIPE account at work is working flawlessly. I cannot

empathy will hang during the connecting... stage.
There's no log, no error messages. How do I go about debugging this?
