[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1380278] Re: unity-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in _gdk_device_xi2_reset_scroll_valuators()

2015-12-09 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
If #1380638 really is a duplicate of this bug, it's definitely still
active. unity-settings-daemon not only crashes, but fails to relaunch
from terminal unless I log out and log back in, making it not just
frustrating, but extremely time consuming.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1297790] Re: Unknown audio device dialog pops up every time I plug in headphones

2014-10-11 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
It's very annoying. The hardware detects whether or not there is a
microphone present in the headset. If there isn't, I only have the one
3.5mm port, so it's not like I could attach one. I don't see any
possible benefit to this feature, but creating a pile of little
obnoxious dialog boxes is a very clear detriment, and it's the sort of
thing Ubuntu normally avoids doing to avoid needlessly reducing new
users' confidence in their system.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1297790] Re: Unknown audio device dialog pops up every time I plug in headphones

2014-10-11 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
Point of fact, I think it's actually failing to recognize the microphone
in a corded headset that I normally don't use for the laptop itself. Not
that clicking microphone makes any difference to that, since I'm
understanding that it only affects whether or not the audio switches to
the new hardware by default, correct?

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1170647] Re: Clicking on Nautilus’ launcher icon opens new window instead of restoring the minimized one when browsing external drives/locations

2014-06-30 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
It's not a patch - those are shell commands. Drop them straight into the
terminal, authenticate, and it'll rename the files and fix the problem.

Bug description:
Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

Old bug, but at least in 13.04, the xinput --set-prop method does work
for GTK3 apps including Nautilus and the Software Center (although the
application may need to be restarted after running the command, which is
not a problem if the configuration is set via startup script.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 847814] Re: the gnome-session dialog suspend option doesn't lock the screen

2011-11-15 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
Under Gnome Shell with the screenlock disabled, this behavior is highly
irritating, because the Gnome session menu follows my settings and does
not lock the screen, but using the power button does lock the screen. I
don't have much of a use case for a screen lock for a machine sitting
safely in my apartment. The screen lock setting should reasonably be
universal (and can still be set with never as the timeout for
inactivity either way.)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 879456] Re: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken

2011-11-01 Thread Dirk Mcbratney
Under a fresh install using Gnome Shell, I experience the same problem
with the text field never clearing and Backspace navigating backwards in
icon view. It's a severe usability regression. I'm looking forward to
the fix, whether it's upstream or here. Should be noted that the
backspace issue is only half of the issue - the other half is that the
typehead field doesn't clear after navigating to a subfolder.

Title:
Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken

Status in Nautilus:
  New
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This bug is similar to: #857710 File selection by typing is buggy
  sometimes

  Description: Ubuntu 11.10
  Release: 11.10

  nautilus:
Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1
Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1

However the person that was assigned to that bug told me to file a new one
because supposedly it is a different bug.
I installed the nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 package from ubuntu proposed and
all packages related and I still experience the following behavior:

  Expected behavior:

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing name of folder/file.
  - Nautilus selects folders/file matching as you type (one file at a time
matching what is in the search/typeahead box).
  - Type backspace
  - Deletes the last character typed in search/typeahead box

  Actual Behavior

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing the name of a folder/file.
  - Sometimes the search box opens and sometimes it does not. (BUG)
  - If it does open, after a letter or two the search box disappears. (BUG)
  - If you change folders sometimes the box reappears as you start typing other
times it disappears. (BUG)
  - If the box re-appears typing in Back-space does not delete the text present
in the box, instead it navigates backwards (Unexpected behavior)
  - If it disappears It does not re-appear until you close and re-open
nautilus. (BUG)

This happens in ALL views (Icon, List, Compact) with or without status
bar enabled (Some suggested that the status bar fixes this, it does
  not).

The newly released packages (nautilus* 3.2.1) DO NOT fix this bug.

I am on Ubuntu 11.10 64Bit Using Gnome 3.2 and Gnome Shell.
Upgraded to this ubuntu since 10.04
