[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1113420] Re: Alt+ window menu shortcuts cannot be disabled
The above comment didn't work for me. It seems in Ubuntu 14.04, Nautilus uses GTK-3.0 and in 3.0 they moved away from the gtkrc files and use settings.ini files in various locations. For Nautilus on Ubuntu 14.04: Create the following path & file if it doesn't already exist. /home/YOURUSERNAME/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini Then add: [Settings] gtk-enable-mnemonics = 0 Then logout and log back in. Sources: * https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gtk-list/2011-March/msg00108.html * https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/GtkSettings.html Better formatting here => http://askubuntu.com/a/569303/11929 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1113420 Title: Alt+ window menu shortcuts cannot be disabled Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I find the key ergonomically very useful (it can be pressed with a thumb without moving any of the "letter" fingers) and I would like to use it for many custom keyboard shortcuts (there is a reason why it plays such a big role in Emacs and the whole OS X for that matter). Currently, though, is hardcoded to activate window menu entries (such as +F for the file menu, +E for the edit menu) and there is no way to surpass this functionality in all the applications. Personally, I find these shortcuts quite useless - they take you to "copy", "paste", and "open file" which have standard shortcuts anyway (with the exception of preferences, which for some reason don't have a standardized shortcut even though that's often the only thing a person looks for up there). Expected behaviour - What I would like to see is a global option to disable these alt+ menu shortcuts to free up the key for other uses (similar to the option already available in gnome-terminal, only global). Preferably, activating this option would also remove the first-letter underlining in the menu to indicate to users that they can't acess it through shortcuts. (I marked nautilus for apport to collect my version numbers, but this affects most applications - didn't know what the right target is) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-23.35-generic 3.5.7.2 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu10 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat Feb 2 13:22:32 2013 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.nautilus.window-state' b'geometry' b"'931x626+1+80'" b'org.gnome.nautilus.window-state' b'start-with-status-bar' b'true' InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-10-19 (106 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1113420/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I am having this same issue with my Thinkpad W510 Touchscreen (Wacom). https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- evdev/+bug/1321351 If you google for HP TouchSmart Phantom Touches then you will get reports of others having this issue. This being said I don't think it is software related. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/HP-Envy- Touchsmart-15-Ghost-touch/td-p/2870001 A temp fix to see if it is your touchscreen is next time it happens, open a console and type "xinput list" to get a list of devices, then grab the numeric ID, say 15 for instance. Then run "xinput disable 15". Your issues should immediately stop. ** Description changed: Recording through internal microphone produces crackling noise on playback. This happens regardless of settings for input device using alsamixer. When using the ubuntu-bug wizard I said the first test passed because the audio was remarkably better than the 2nd but there was still minor crackling, so I am not sure how to do some ALSA only tests to verify the culprit really is PulseAudio, please advise. Update: I just discovered arecord and did a test. The crackling is still present with arecord. + + Update2: I used set options snd-hda-intel position_fix=2 a second time + and it appears audio is recording correctly now (and saved correctly). However, if I open the Sound dialog, the "Output Volume" slider goes up to 150%, which allows me to comfortably hear sound. Unfortunately, if I use the volume keys thereafter, it practically mutes the sound again, and doesn't let me increase the volume to 150% without first opening the Sound Settings dialog. I highly disagree with closing this as invalid, this is a horrible user experience and needs to be fixed. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 947748] Re: Brightness control not working after latest update
Same here on a Lenovo Thinkpad W510. The brightness sliider in settings does not work as well as the hardware keys. I am using Nvidia drivers. What is also interesting is that I rebooted 2 times before now and the hardware keys did not even bring up the brightness slider overlay on the top right, but after the latest reboot it appears it is back but just doesn't do anything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/947748 Title: Brightness control not working after latest update Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: After today's update my brightness controls aren't working anymore. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 483541] Re: File-roller drag'n drop is unreliable
This is happening to me on 11.10 with File Roller 3.2.1. I am getting am trying to drag and drop and I am getting: Extraction not performed You don't have the right permissions to extract archives in the folder "file:///home/elijah/websites/loc.gitsite.gary.com/sites/all/modules/features/articles/xds.txtodules" Not sure what to do but thought I would add it here. If I go up one level I can drag and drop and then drag the files/folders into the desired folder within Nautilus. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to file-roller in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/483541 Title: File-roller drag'n drop is unreliable Status in “file-roller” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: file-roller Drag'n drop of a file from file-roller in Gnome to a local folder is unreliable here. It fails 1 time out of 5 here approximately. When it fails, it gives the following error message: You don't have the right permissions to extract archives in the folder "file:///home/chris/Documents/ASSET/WP5-T1/VTT/VTT-TML-Integration/Code/Web%20services/xds.txttion" Note that I'm actually trying to drop the file to this location (where the permissions are ok): /home/chris/Documents/ASSET/WP5-T1/VTT/VTT-TML-Integration/Code/Web services/ I have no idea where the trailing "xds.txttion" comes from and of course it does not exist on my local filesystem. The error always refers to this folder name. Just a hint, I think it has something to do with the time you wait until you release the mouse button to actually drop the file in the folder. I think the behavior is as follows: 1. Press mouse button on a file in file-roller, drag the mouse to the local folder, wait until a '+' appears on the left of the dragged file icon and then release the button -> It works (If you wait a sufficient amount of time, it never crashes) 2. Press mouse button on a file in file-roller, drag the mouse to the local folder, immediately release the mouse button before the '+' appears on the left of the file icon -> It does not do anything, the file is not extracted, no error (probably too fast). 3. Crash case: I think it crashes if you release the mouse button relatively fast, just before the '+' appears on the icon (or maybe at this moment). I might be wrong but this is my best guess and I hope it can help identifying the issue since it is not easy to reproduce probably.
