[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly

2015-10-16 Thread Eloy Vallina
Also happens here in my Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 with Spanish layout. Even
though the top bar states that the keyboard layout is Spanish 1
(international), the real layout is wrong, probably en_US.

A workaround this issue is to have two favourite keyboard layouts that
will appear in the drop-down when you click on the language icon on your
top bar. In my case, I have two spanish layouts and I can easily change
from es1 to es2 and then back to es1. The keyboard configuration is now
truly es1 which what matches my hardware and I can keep working.

To add a keyboard layout in this drop-down menu just go to
System>Keyboard>Layout settings!

Hope that helps until they come up with some true solution.

For a problem this stupid I sincerely don't understand it has been here
so long.

Bug description:
  Just upgraded from 12.04 (raring) to 12.10 (saucy) and keyboard layout keeps
changing from pt_br to what I think is en_us.
  It seems random so I don't know what trigger this, but sometimes just
alt-tabbing is enough to mess with keyboard layout in one of the windows.
  I already removed the en_us from my keyboard sources, double checked the use
of one source for all windows, and even removed accelerators to switch between
layouts but none have worked.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1496176] [NEW] System unbootable after fglrx installation

2015-09-15 Thread Eloy Vallina
Public bug reported:

After coming across with this info
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1424491
in which the installation of fglrx seems fixed in trusty I attempted the
following:

Installation of fglrx drivers for my Radeon M260 in my laptop with
Ubuntu Gnome 14.04.3 LTS

$ sudo apt-get install fglrx-updates xvba-va-driver
.
.
.
Installation finished with no errors or warnings

$ sudo reboot

After Gnome loading screen (before log in) boot stops with following
messages in intermitten screen followed by "[OK]" at the end of each
line:

* Starting atieventsd
[OK]
saned disabled; edit /etc/default/saned
* Starting network connection manager

* Restoring resolver state
* Starting crash report submission daemon
* Stopping System V runlevel compatibility

After reboot, same info displayed plus:

* Stopping cold plug devices
* Stopping log initial device creation
* Starting save vdev log and update rules
* Stopping save vdev log and update rules

After new reboot this long message:

* Starting automatic crash report generation
* Starting ACPI daemon
* Starting configure virtual network devices
* Stopping restore sound card state
* Stopping anac(h)ronistic cron
* Starting cups-browsed -- Bonjour remote printer *illegible in my notes* daemon
* Stopping save kernel messages
* Starting regular background program processing daemon
* speech-dispatcher disabled; edit /etc/default/speech-dispatcher
* Starting network connection manager
* Starting atieventsd
saned disabled; edit /etc/default/saned
  * Restoring resolver state

After fourth reboot the first message repeated

I managed to boot into text mode editing grub's ubuntu entry and
attempted:

$ sudo apt-get remove fglrx-updates
.
.
apt-get will INSTALL fglrx-core
.
.
Removal and installations finish with no errors or warnings

$ sudo reboot

Same problem

Back into text session

$ sudo startx

Can't boot into gui mode: xinit connection to xorg lost (or something
similar)

$ sudo apt-get remove fglrx-core
.
.
apt-get will INSTALL fglrx-updates (At this point I'll admit I cried a bit)
.
.
NO!
Abort

$ sudo apt-get purge fglrx*
.
.
.
.
Big removal completed

$ sudo startx

Finally able to boot into gui
.

Title:
  Black screen on switching users

Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I have an Asus UX303LN with Ubuntu 15.04. There are two user accounts,
  one administrator and one that is not administrator.

  When I switch between users the screen turns black, sometimes the windows the
user has opened are flashed before it turns black. If I hold the laptop against
a bright light I can see that the windows are there, but that the back-light is
completely switched off. When I close the lid and open again, making the laptop
going into suspend and back, the back-light is on. When coming back from
suspend I'm greeted by the login screen, but while I write my password it goes
into suspend again. Pressing space or closing and opening the lid brings up the
login screen and I can successfully login
  Summary:
  - Log in user A
  - Switch to user B
  - Switch back to user A -> Windows that are open flash then black screen
  - Close the lid and open again -> login screen
  - While writing the password the laptop goes to suspend. Hitting space brings
is up again.
  - Attempt to login -> screen is not black.

  I have also found that the user switched to is not critical, as long as the
switch user screen has been triggered:
  - Log in as user A
  - Press the cogwheel in the upper right corner, select user B.
  - When prompted with user Bs password, change your mind and switch to user A
again.
  - The same black screen behaviour as above.

  So it seems that the culprit is something triggered by the switch user
  screen, that differs from just locking one account and entering the
  password to it.

  This or similar issues have been reported before, as far back as 2010
  it seems. I have not found any solution by reading threads, it seems
  that sometimes people get lucky and the issue disappears during an
  upgrade.

  To get the touchpad and other stuff working I have as recommended in the
following thread added a couple of PPAs.
  Thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2243162
  PPAs:
  http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu
  http://ppa.launchpad.net/hanipouspilot/focaltech-dkms/ubuntu
  Other PPAs to get applications I want:
  http://ppa.launchpad.net/nilarimogard/webupd8/ubuntu
  http://repository.spotify.com
  http://apt.insynchq.com/ubuntu
  http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1457593] [NEW] Xorg crashed after 'service gdm restart'

2015-05-21 Thread Eloy Vallina
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1237904 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1237904

Public bug reported:

I noticed my keyboard was not working properly as typing for example
shift + , would give me the character _ instead of the expected
quotation mark ?

I opened a terminal and typed 'sudo service gdm restart'

After that I was in the lobby but my user wasn't available for quick
login so I had to go through the 'not listed?' option typing my username
and password. After that bug splat informed that this crashed had
happened.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS

Bug description:
  Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
  minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
  instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

  If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
  launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
  nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).
